Top 3 things you like and dislike? - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I've seen alot of good reviews about the honor 8. what are the top 3 things you like about it and the least 3 things you like about it (or things you feel could be improved/fixed?)

-I am really enjoying the over feel of the device, I can safetly say it is a sold build and anyone who do not mind the 5'2 inch, will be impress.
-I also like the smart key feature, the fact that I can access my 3 most apps with just a flick / stroke/ long hold of the finger print button is great...
-Which bring me to my next like, I love that finger print scanner...they placed so many functionality into the small lil round button it is amazon. Not to mention it is very...very ...very fast. fastest I have seen, love the fact can scroll with it.
-Did I mention IR blaster?
-Phone is always cool, does not heat up as quickly as other phones get with the same usage.
-I really hate their brightness control, as it is too aggressive. I feel they got too caught up with wanting good battery life, they just butcher that all together. I can be sitting and my phone will turn dark out of no where because the software choose to turn my brightness setting to the lowest possible there is. Overall, it is too aggressive and they need to fix it...if I have to download a third party brightness controller to have my phone behaving...I have a problem. Initially I thought it was my phone but I seen some reviews of it.
-The DPI is too big, and messes with the display of the notification...I have seen the negativity of that only with my map so far. You know how with android the map can be placed on your notification? On the honor 8 it is cut off allowing you to see like 2/3 of the notification. It is simply an eye sore...so they need to fix their software and make everything well rounded.
- The software is just a weebit iphoneish...but it is something that I can live with. Would I want it change? sure...can I live with it without complaining? Definently.

What I like: 1- the build 2- the fingerprint scanner/button/ 3- camera
What I don't like: 1- UI 2- no OIS

awesome design and well 5.2 inch display and an outstanding camera,
the only disappointment is emui:crying:

Just got it so this is after 1 day of not so much use.
- I hate I can't wake and unlock the phone from the front when I put down the phone on the table. I need to pick it up and scan my finger first?
I guess I could press the power button and type in my password, which is not so easy with the default keyboard and just takes too long.
Why the hell can't I use fingerprint and pattern?
- Why was facebook on my phone?
- I'm not a fan of putting a case around my phone. Used the clear case I got from vmall. It's okay I guess.
+ I really like the fingerprint scanner and button!
+ Swipe down on smart button for expanding notification shade.
+ Way better phone than my previous (Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 ) in pretty much everything.

Fp being placed on the back isn't always convenient, and for the pattern with FP it's due to EMUI

FP at the back is convenient for me. Apart from convenience, in design perspective I like the placement for FP at back rather than the front FP occupying space like Moto, Sam and OP.

The only inconvenience in back placed fp is when the phone is on the table and you want to unlock it.

[Request] 7 screens?

So, I was thinking, since I got this phone I have been downloading apps willie nillie. Keeping it clean though, clearing out what Ii haven't been using. I was wondering if there is plans to add more screens.
I am not a coder, so I would not be sure how to do this. The extra 2 dots and screen preview I am sure would add extra difficulty for this. I would be willing to donate for this. I am a widget head and I Have a few apps I keep going to the menu for.
Thank you if you read this. Have a good day.
shoot, i can't even fill 5.
Have not heard of more than 5, but U can create folders on the home screen & fill them up with apps...
You see that figure on the bottom of the screen, with the little grid?
That's the equivalent of your 7 homescreens.
Download home++
Ok, so you guys seem to be confused, I wasn't actually asking your opinion or how you use your homescreen. I wan't asking if there was some crappy overlay app on the market for my launcher, I know how to use the phone, I know where the apps are.
This is actually a request for the devs. If one of them thinks this is feasible and decides to do it, it's on them.
So, unless you can code, i don't care. If you can code and even bother reading or considering this, I say thank you very much as I know that the devs time is valuable.

Thanks for the tip dude. But I have tried that one, And I agree that home++ is really nice, Ii would like to see 7 screens natively in a custom rom or possibly an Add on.
I am curious how hard this would be to code to be honest... it seems that it was only a minor update/change seeing as 2.0 only had 3 screens...
i would also like to see 7 screens...most of my screen space is used up...
But surely downloading a small program like Home++ is better as you can choose the amount of screens.
I can switch from anywhere between 3 and 7 screens without worrying about blank screens.
Also Home++ is FAR smotther and faster than the stock home launcher which I find surprising.

Wow, there's no need to be a jerk. This is an open forum, where people post opinions, thus you can't dictate who or what gets posted in the thread you started provided its within the rules set forth by the mods.
Why not ask, ney, demand for 9 home screens. 9 is way better than 7 and while you're at it, why not have them wrap around cylindrical style. Oh sorry, here I am throwing idea's out in your dev only thread.

Some of the comments suggest that it isnt faster than stock, how many screens are you using? Would Launcher+ by the same dev be better if all I want is a different number of screens?

I'm using 6 screens, here's how they're set out
1. Weather/Clock with memory widgets and 4 icons
2. power widget, Music widget, 6
3. Photo Gallery widget (full screen)
4. Twitter, Facebook widgets and another Music widget
5. Pure Calender widget (Full screen)
6. clear screen.
Works flawlessly and far better than the stock launcher.

Those little things...

Those little things make life perfect and so do they make the Android.
Unfortunately they are not easy to find but if you do its like an "AHA"-effect.
Maybe that's even the good thing about them?
Still they make handling Android so much more comfortable I do not want to just step over them.
So I want a list!
Where would I find something, or do we want to setup one here (if not exists already)?
What I mean:
- like when you are in the gallery and select one folder and drag it, it will float through all images still in gallery overview
- or when you type into the keyboard and swipe the finger up you get the numbers and one more swipe you get some extra characters
Man that stuff comes handy!
Maybe you discovered on your first day but I didn't

Nein das ist keine Wunschliste (No it's not a wishlist)
I'm on FRG83D and it does it!
Hold the "T"-Key pressed, then swipe the finger upwards -> do this face
I love this "swipe up for numbers" thing. Its way faster than long press or switching to the special characters.
But it seems that features has been removed in gingerbread.

Very disappointed when I found this. Why the HELL would they take this out?

Updated Video: Trigger V2.1.1

Thought some of you may like to see this amazing ROM in action:
Edit: watching this from your phone, watch from the embedded video. Mobile youtube doesn't show annotations, which I prefer.
Update V2.1.1 video added:
http://goo.gl/f9s65
in the videos you should start talking the song is annoying as hell for me since i'm a teen and i'm used to some rock lol.
Muted it and put on some eminem (cool kid yeah!)
I do that because "I Found my Baby".... the rom. Grow up and listen to real music every now and then, it wont hurt. I'm 30.
My suggestion was for you to talk, instead of annotations, yet you tell me to grow up.
What does growing up have anything to do with liking which kind of music?
you like that kind, sorry i can't tell what it is, i like rock, pop, rap etc.
Grow up and learn to accept that all people aren't the same.
Definition of music: an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner
Yeah i'm sure rap has that, oh look, so does rock omg.
I guess every music is "real"
you said the song was annoying as hell... for you... b/c you were a kid.... hence what i said. Talk about the video/rom.... leave music out of it. FYI, non-teens like rock too....

All the roms since nero 5 have improve on gps, speed, and data. That alone is enough to change rom. I've always found the TW releases to be very underwhelming to the eyes. Ugly black and green. Trigger looks terrific and performs like a champ. Great work edt.

^ pretty much exactly my thought
How could anyone be annoyed by that music? That does look very sweet. Now let me read the whole thread and see what I'm looking at.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
^ they just released V2.1... I'm holding off until all the mods are updated (today/tomorrow) b/c I just love the semi-accurate battery mod that much... also, not sure how the rom could really be improved much to be honest.
edit, thought of one thing... seems like all froyo roms recently are limited to 4 windows in the browser, not sure why this is.
Who's the artist? Sounded a bit like Ray Charles then he did some George Benson type guitar scat? I watched on YouTube mobile so no notes, just to be sure this is what rom? PS can't you just use the battery mod app or theme the battery icon through metamorph?
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

MIUI 4: Would you use it?

The MIUI patchrom was updated today to support the MIUI 4 (ICS) base. According to the README in the MiCode repo it looks like we meet the prerequisites to use the patchrom. I've used MIUI on my handset before so I wouldn't deny it on my tablet to say the least. The features are great and there is no end to customization of the ROM. The launcher isn't optimized for tablets but I guess Trebuchet or the stock ICS launcher is still usable. Hopefully a dev will hook us up (or if it doesn't require building the whole OS maybe even I can do it).
So I guess the question is: Would you use MIUI on your Iconia?
Hells yes

Yea I agree it may share "some ios similarities" but all in all it is a very customizable android Rom I've used miui on my inc and inspire plus my old nook but took it off my nook after 24 hrs of use because sizing was terrible and it was a huge phone. But if a dev manages to create a miui masterpiece as well as the devs over at miuiandroid/miui.us bring it on!

If you think the UI is all that is different (or at the very least, all that MIUI has to offer), you've probably never used MIUI. Or at least not long enough to discover what it has to offer.
Let's not forget it's still Android at heart. And as far as Android goes, the level of customization is far beyond any other offering. You can turn off whatever you don't like theme-wise and use whatever launcher you're currently enjoying. If you're going to judge it on UI alone, then you're missing out on a whole lot.
EDIT: Of course, I have no idea how well it even works on tablets. I don't know if the MIUI team really considered the tablet aspects of ICS when making version 4. But like I said, any suitable tablet launcher should still work perfectly fine.

While MIUI does allow for you to tweak the way icons and the lockscreen look, the base functionality and user experience are heavily influenced by iOS. A fresh install of MIUI looks strikingly like an iOS device, with the addition of a clock widget.

But if I was to turn off all of the MIUI UI options and use a different launcher, why would I want to use MIUI at all? Why not use a stripped down version of a stock rom?
Personally, I didn't see the appeal of MIUI. Sure I could download a ton of themes but they never were well designed. I wind up making my own themes anyway, so I would rather have a ROM that was as lean as possible and theme it as I need. If you like MIUI, juice by you.. but I've tried it and it wasn't for me.

I think what FloatingFatMan meant was that MIUI feels like it is trying to mimic iOS. I would have to agree with FloatingFatMan on this point...it feels too much like an iPhone interface.

Please could you show me how it's iPhone interface like ?
because I don't see the iPhone feeling on my MiUI.....
-> and by the way iPhone copied the Samsung interface as well....
if it's just about square icons on a grid and a ribbon on the lower part A lot of phone interface so are iPhone(samsung) like...
Just to be clear I am not an iPhone hater, I just bored about people who think iPhone (Apple) is a revolution and are the one create all.... nope... they just improve, or copy and got a strong marketing behind that's it.
So if I take my MiUI interface I got
- Widget (iPhone does not have that)
- A neat slide swipe animation between each screen (with effect or not)
- A way to can change really everything inside (wallpaper, starting animation, lockscreen, etc...)
- A music player directly accessible from the lockscreen (double tap on the time)
- no slide to unlock from left to right (but can be installed via a theme named iPhone...)
- etc..
well I got more than expected on my stuttering Liquid Metal... miUI give it a new life, and memory freedom.
so let me know how it's same I will be pleased to see.

To me, the overall layout just reminds me of iOS, and I'm simply not a fan of that style. I'm not saying it is bad, just not my cup of tea. I understand it is still Android underneath it (AOSP) and it is customizable, but I guess the way the launcher is laid out just has the feel of iOS, at least to me.
But everyone has their preferences.

No. I want to use Android, not an iOS wannabe.

How is miui an ios wannabe? You realize you can change the theme to whatever you want, right?
I use miui on my phone and I love it. I'd really like to see miui on the A500.
Edit: didn't read the posts above me, I agree

iOS and MIUI are not same.
maybe a very old version of miui theme was with the same background (wow that makes all the feeling... iBackground?)
Similarities or Same ?
Similarities... Oh my god yes there is ... but since Apple didn't created the "User Interface" of phones neither "Icons" we cannot compare MiUI with iOS... they got idea from something else before as well.
stop comparing all against iOS or iPhone... that will be better.
1) it's not iOSlike
2) it's android
3) we can change everything we want in Miui... and make it looks like iPhone if we want just by applying a theme... but the default theme is not iPhone like at all.. really not at all..
Please people, use the things before making statement...

What is OmniSwitch?

Is there a direction it's going to take? It looks like PIE's ugly counterpart.

No offense...well, maybe... but it looks clunky and useless. Does anyone use it? Do you think it's innovative?

It's basically a beefed up version of the 'recent apps' screen.
I wasn't a big fan of it initially, but after using it a while, It really grew on me.
It's much much easier to switch between the last 2-3 apps, for example.

I suppose it has it would have its user base. I don't use Pie either so this one just seems as frivolous. All these buttons are easily accessible at the bottom of my phone. To each his own I guess.
OmniSwitch is focusing on functionality and not on eye candy
candy can always be added later

Omniswitch
I used to love omniswitch as I believe it is great but there is one thing that I dont like, and that is that I cant see the content of the app open, in the recent aplication list, we were able to see the opened aplications and its content.
That is eye candy that will be added at some point cause you cannot give me a real good reason what is the advantage to have it
