Z5c received marshmallow in march or april. Z1 received kitkat march or april. So it is based on experience. Sony is one of the laziest to update phones to new android version

Or maybe cause z3 is only a 32bit cpu, snapdragon 801, all other devices on their list are 64bit z3+ onwards
Even the other nexus devices are all 64bit, except for the nexus 6 which some say is 64 while others say its 32,

When you look at the Sony tracking history, they released KK, LP, MM everytime on March..... so you can imagine it.

yup maybe
but sadly z5c got only 1.8GB
barely got this device 6 months
and games like CSR 2 left the phone with only 250MB free RAM
and all backward apps had to force close down even home screen reloaded again
i know 64 bit takes more RAM and support more than 3.5GB
i hope it will be fine.. anyway like you all said.. probably it will be out ,at least 6 months from now

If I understand the pattern correctly, it's likely that Z5C last Android upgrade will be 8.0, right?

As long "android 8.0" is released before the 2 year support for the Z5C, so like before September 2017 since it Z5C was released around September 2015 i believe

Maybe not 8.0 but at least up until 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 as they will be called, google upgrades for nougat.

I gave this build a try on my device:
Everything seemed to work okay except camera. The camera app wouldn't open. I didn't have the chance to try any other camera because I was unsure how to properly get gapps onto my phone to try third party cameras.
I did get gapps on there, but it involved installing the ROM through TWRP, then flashing back the kernel that could be used with TWRP, flashing Gapps, then flashing back the AOSP kernel. However, once I did this, Google Play Services kept crashing.
Gave up after that XD

thanks for feed back @largehamburgerhat , i want to install this rom but there is .img files in zip file, how can i flash this files ? also did you flashed opengapps ?

So I'm guessing FXP builds these using Sony's AOSP build guide: http://developer.sonymobile.com/ope...uild-aosp-nougat-for-unlocked-xperia-devices/
At the end, they mention this:
fastboot –S 256M flash boot out/target/product/<device>/boot.img
fastboot –S 256M flash system out/target/product/<device>/system.img
fastboot –S 256M flash userdata out/target/product/<device>/userdata.img
Simply boot your device into fastboot mode, extract the .img files and run those commands! (of course, make sure to change and use the correct path where it says "out/target/...")

I cant get the camera working with any app nor the flashlight but i did get google play services working . Flashed boot, system and userdata images and TWRP as recovery then micro gapps before first boot .

Front camera working ,also while charging only led working but no detail in settings, sound wonderful with music

I will TRY to resist the TEMPTATION to NOT install the lollipop directly when it gets available, maybe wait 2 weeks for other people to tell us if it is better or worse.. especially if it it is Android 5.0 and not 5.1...with said it will be very hard to resist to not install it directly.
Maybe that is for mediapad x2, and new p8 support, those have lollipop. So I dont think we will get update soon.

Let's just hope for the best. They may release the update after mediapad x2 and p8 is out. Its most likely be based on their updated versoon of android. And we may get a better one because they will testers for our update.
What I would like on the update is the tap to wake up function. I don't like using the flip cover. I like cases or bumpers and its easier if you can just tap to wake up.
Guys you really think u will be happy with 5.0 ???
BET with me once it will be avail. and u install it u'll be rolling back !
Did u been considering that u MIGHT NOT be able to root phone ? OR install custom recovery ?? You didn't right ? heh .. yeah
Well .. u might be surprised I just plaing with LG G3 which I had installed 5.0 and 1. There was no possible to root G3 ! only now recently released root program .. so so it is rooted
BUT
Not possible to install custom recovery (only in very difficult long way)
Xposed not working YET only by flashing another dificulty way ..
So no support at all .. devs. keeping slowly up .. but ..
Do u think somebody gonna bother to get all this working on huawei phones ?
Let's see.
But remember once again .. u will be rooling back sam eas I reverted G3 back to kitkat .. no lag at all..
For G3 all it needs is to downgrade to kitkat, instal custom recovery, than flash cm12 lolipop, all of this take max 25 min, not complicated at all.
Maby updating to lollipop will not relock bootloader, so flashing custom recovery will take 2 minutes, and flashing super su trought cwm also take one minute, so we can have lollipop and root very easy. I am waiting for lollipo because CM 12 rom, not for update with emui 3.0 on the top because everything will be the same as now.

You see? u said it by your self DOWNGRADING to kitkat so? whats the point getting lolipop..
And I said that I already downgraded.. to kitkat... this morning..
xposed works on 100% LG G3 tweaksBox , TWRP latest works 100%
NOTHING properly works on 5.0 ...
No mate there is no any unlocking or relocking bootloader.. like in huawei phones... and no there is no any CWM ONLY TWRP is made for G3...
Yeah there MIGHT be CM based on lolipop .. but again with so many buuugs not workings.. so best to stay on 4.4.2 for now..
And u said all be same no point ..
Don't understand what some ppl thinks when they see higher number 5.0 . or lolipop it it is gonna be better... aahh well
From Lolipop i expect only better battery optimization, nothing more.

Won't happen, TBH.
Not much chance the first LP release will be smooth, you would be best hoping huawei used their brain & made effort on bugfix & improvements on JB & move on to LP once revisions/improvements been done by google team to LP.
I think the biggest disspointment will be a lot of functions that we associate with Lollipop will not be included...
Will we get new multi tasking view ? Probably not.

Will we get Lollipop notifications view ? probably not
http://offoindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Lollypop-3.jpg
I think depressingly enough the biggest disappointment will be that it will be impossible to see the difference between current kitkat (that looks little bit like Lollipop already) and the new lollipop release, I think they will mainly try to make it look exactly like the old kitkat. I say this because of the latest Huawei tablet with lollipop, we must expect something similar...
What I hope though is improvements under the hood... Better performance which means better adjusted cpu cores how they throttles up and down..
right now there is microlag a lot...
I hope even faster and more smooth animations (if the GPU can handle it). Right now I have fastest animation setting .5x in developer options, but the problem is with the fastest setting it does not run as smooth as one would wish, but as it is now I prefer the fastness with some micro stutter to painfully slow animations which make me unproductive.
Batterylife I hope it can be improved a little bit even though. The androi system still use more then it should so I think there is potential..but still it is the modem that drains most of the battery...and software improvements can't make much of that .

Zenfone 2 ZE551ML/ZE550ML users have been supporting this device for 1 year & 4 months already, as if it is one of the best selling flagship for the year 2015 and yet Asus turned down its users for just a simple update. Well as you can see, many Zenfone 2 Intel users are frustated for the delayed response of just a simple update(i meant MM Final), that already has been using by many other 2014 Smartphone variants since May(eg: Galaxy S5, Xperia Z3).
I'll be lying if i say i'm not waiting for MM update. but when i think that i had this phone for 15 months and or works really fine with lollipop and i know for a fact that they will release MM for it i know for sure that I'll keep using out for another year.

Hi,
I have my Zenfone 2 rooted, with xposed installed and bootloader unlocked with TWRP (3.0) installed. I know that I have to uninstall xposed framework, and root, but I never had my bootloader unlocked with stock ROM, and I'd like to update. I can't seem to find an answer in the forum, so I'm asking here. Will it work directly from the notification if xposed and root are removed ? If not can i sideload it from adb into the twrp adb sideload ? If not can I just fastboot flash the recovery to be able to install it ? I don't really need to be unlocked on this phone anymore but I don't want to flash the raw firmware, because it's going to take a long time to reinstall everything and set everything up properly. So how am I supposed to do it ? Thanks

Android 7.0 Nougat Supported

Hi guys,
I have an Xperia Z1 Compact. I'm wondering if it will be able to run the new Android 7.0 Nougat from the hardware requirements perspective.
Thanks.
I am 99% sure that as far as hardware is considered Z1C can run Android 7.0 Nougat. Anyway, there is still no stable 6.0 ROM, so I am afraid that in the following months the 7.0 won't be available for our device.

This thread has a few 6.0 ROMs that sound promising (I haven't tried any yet).
Sony published a guide to made a Nougat based custom rom, I think its for Z3 but not sure. Maybe can help us, specially to developers. That's the link to tutorial
http://developer.sonymobile.com/build-aosp-nougat-7-0/
Unfortunately qualcomm has said that it wont relase gpu drivers for 7.0 for snapdragon 800 and 801.
So i think our device wont run; android 7.0 so soon but, with time we will se what will happen.

Doesn't that only mean, that we won't have the kernel which is officially used with Nougat? I think we can still use a MarshMallow kernel. It lacks Vulkan support, but OpenGL still works, right?
edit: Here is some more information about this problem. Looks like it's not that bad. Official work ended because the compatibility tests would have failed anyway, but we can still build custom rome.
edit2: Yay, there's already a petition for that matter.
Woah we got android v 7.0 already?
You can call me old fashioned but I'm still happy on 4.4.4 where everything just works.

Yes, you're old-fashioned... However, I must admit that I spent a few days with CandyKat last week just because I knew how good it was, way, way back then, in 2015. (I also am refusing to let go of my Tesla LP backup, yet).
Alright, now we"ve got the instructions and the binaries. Well, more or less. It says "please download Android 6.0.1" right after each link to the binaries, even in the row of the Z5. Anyway, they updated the binaries, I guess we could at least give them a try...
edit: They did not include the latest Adreno driver blob. They included the january/2016 release, but there's also a june/2016 release.

You can have that option enabled on any rom but that will mean there is always going to be a battery drain because that feature will be software based and it stops device to go in deep sleep mode, for example lg has that option but its hardware based and so it does not have any battery drain and feature is useful.
I hope i have cleared that.

It's the latest and last Sony ROM for Z3, security level October 2016. Great battery life (ForceDoze works great) and really stable (yes you get the Sony apps from the store).
(locked bootloader and you want root) get Lollipop .264, like my DE: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/d6603-xperia-z3-23-4-1-264-customized-t3259252
For me the battery life is disappointing on their "official" MM, going from 6h Screen-on-Time on 5.1.1 to barely 4h on their "final" firmware .291 is really bad.
Just checked and yeah i have the 291
How do i get the good version? Do i need to format my phone and flash it or is it like a normal update?
Also just checked i got the d6603
So is there a nougat version? Cause i really like the looks of the nougat

There's a nougat version for D6603 but it's a custom rom and needs an unlocked bootloader. It's called Lineage os 14.1 by Nailyk.

Plain flash with FlashTool, you will wipe everything so backup (pics/documents/etc) to a PC first.

There are the Developers Previews, but I can't recommend them as daily drivers:
* latest DP4 has a killer bug (whenever it switches Wi-Fi off it will reboot)
* while DP3 is not full SDK24 yet, had even issues installing apps
You can get that Nougat look if you have root on 5.1.1 with Xposed + Android N-ify for the quick settings (get latest build #827 here) + this nav bar.
(in Android N-ify remember to enable "fancy anymations")
/LE: keep in mind that whatever I'm saying above you don't need an UNlocked bootloader.

I think i have around 5 to 6 hours on screen on time on a normal day, but for example when i watch a video i could lose 10% in 5 minutes some time. Will i see a big deference with the Marshmallow Concept .3657 ?

just drained my battery and i got 5 hours of screen-on-time. Is it worth moving to the concept rom ?
Read my results, from my experience yes, but as you wish, I know it's painful to setup things back, test, etc.

Where are your results? I don't mind setting every thing up again. I m a bit afraid of the process. Also how much better will be my battery life? This is my biggest concern.

(I mean 5.1.1 firmware .264 or Marshmallow Concept .3657, have great battery life)
Again, this depends on your user case, I can't swear you'll see this exact difference.
The flash process is simple, too simple, my biggest gripe is setting apps again, stabilize my workflow, and use the device as usual for 2-3 battery cycles ( 100%->5%) to be able to judge that on a fair ground. (eg. while installing apps, copying files or rebooting, the battery drain is bigger, that's not to be accounted...)
http://prntscr.com/fa6rgz Where do i paste the ftf file ? Do you know ?

.291 is the last official one.
You can get root on Concept .3657 if you have an unlocked bootloader. It's the last one from Sony but it's not "officialy supported" blahblah, it's just "concept/test", use it if it works.

Nope, you need an unlocked bootloader, then you can root it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/development/kernel-advanced-stock-kernel-android-t3490519

7.1.1 reduced volume from headphone jack

So, I bought my X compact 5 days ago and it was on Android 6. The sound output was simply amazingand the volume really, really high. I decided to install all the OTA updates and now the volume has been reduced noticeably. Is there anyone else who has noticed it? Any solutions to it?
Thanks in advance.
I bought my XC last week that came with marshmallow and then I updated to Nougat. I can't say I experienced the same problem. It was always kind of meh.

Then, can you please give me a site where I can search for the latest Marshmallow available, since PTCRB hasn't listed the X Compact's firmwares? Thanks for replying!

Here is my personal .198 ftf, it took me a few days of searching on the web to find this one when I bought mine. Xposed is more than worth it to be on MM anyways.

XperiFirm still hosts a MM .198.ftf knowing that we need it, or see the post by kekistaneerefugee.

Depends on your skill set and willingness to learn how to mod one apk to do what you need multiple modules to do, and how concerned with security you are.

Mine is 1304-8441_R3D. I'm not sure if it was the last one, I only used it in order to be able to backup my TA partition then unlocked my BL, used POC to create a kernel that uses my TA partition to restore DRM functionality. Then I flashed TWRP 3.1.1 and used SuperSU to root.

And you're on Marshmallow now?
I'm just not feeling like going for Marshmallow due to a bug at 7.1.1, since our devices will get more updates as the time goes by, which means there are chances we're seeing it fixed.

No, I'm using the latest 7.1.1, .228 rooted Nougat. When I come to sell my X Compact in the next week or so when the XZ1 Compact drops I'll downgrade to MM again to unroot and relock my BL then update back to N.

You're the boss haha. I'm afraid to void my warranty for now. I'll just wait for Android 8 to make my volume output good again. In case it doesn't I'll give Marshmallow a try

Ha, I'm just experienced with Xperias. Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, Arc, Ray, Sony Xperia Z, Z1 Compact, Z3 Tablet, X Compact, everyone rooted or had it's bootloader unlocked and never had an issue with any that required a warranty repair.
Not saying it can't happen as I have seen a few instances over the years when others have had to, but it's a small percentage and doesn't warrant being so overly cautious during, imo of course.

I'm an Xperia fan as well, I've had Z3 Compact before, Xperia Z, Xperia U, Xperia S etc etc.... Xperia U and S where the only ones I had unlocked the bootloader at though... Thanks for your answers man...
By the way, don't you have any issues with your sound volume at your headphones?

Always happy to try and help. I don't use the headphones at all but the speaker volume was an issue before I increased the mixerpaths xml, it's perfect now though.

I'm on the opposite side of you. I mostly use my headphones and I'm just fine with the speaker's volume.
