Moto G4 Notification LED - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
Recently when my battery was empty and my phone was off, i connected my phone to wall power and saw a white LED flash next to the microphone.
Does this mean that there is an notification LED? Or is it there to show your that your battery is being charged? I don't know.
I have red some articles that it is an ''hidden'' LED and that you can activate it using a root method, but is there a way i can activate this LED without having to root my device? I don't see the point of rooting this phone except to make this LED work.
help ^^

I'm rooted and tried to get the led to work for notifications buy couldn't get it but maybe I did something wrong maybe someone else has had luck

I want to try it but, i can't find a root guide that has only a root for the stock rom. All the other rooting methods involve unlocking the bootloader and flash SuperSu using TWRP.
But thanks for your reply anyway.

Sure thing but that's the only way to get root access fyi

why hide it and if so how do you get it to work on rooted phone

just unlock bootloader and use this works perfect
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/how-to/how-to-root-g4-fix-bootable-attempted-t3417592/page2

I have a motog4 xt1625. I did unlock the bootloader and root.
However, I was dissapointed that there seems to be no way to enable
the led for notifications. I was able to enable the led during charging with
Ex Kernel Manager, under miscellaneous, led trigger.
For now I found an app called Led blinker which simulates what we hope to accomplish, but does not use the actual led.

Just an update, this can be done with Light Flow Legacy. You have to enable root mode though (so no in the vain of the original question) and manually enable the charging LED, then for each notification setting you have to set the charging LED to solid.
EDIT: What worked best for me was enabling root mode, enabling "Run root for every command," and also "Direct Mode." Then, for each notification enable the charging LED to solid, and also turn on "Enable Mixer" and "App controlled flash" to allow the LED to flash. Regardless of the flash speed setting, it seems to flash the same way every time-- in a slightly sporadic fashion, likely because it's not meant to be used for notifications. You also apparently don't need Direct Mode on, but I found one of my apps wasn't flashing the LED unless I had it on.

The 1.76* build had a VERY annoying bug that made the LEDs stop working after a week or so... maybe you want to go back to that?
Nah.
Why do you want to get rid of the notifications?

Because I don't really need them at al and I recieve too many texts so I know I always have a messege so the question continues can this be turned of at all thanks for your response
I have the sprint hero. There is a setting under menu/settings/sound & display/notification flash. If you open it, you can turn it on/off for missed call, SMS/MMS, email, voicemail, reminders.
It is second to last on the sound & display list.
Hope that helps!

i have the latest modaco 3.0 rom, but that option does not exist, is it the same for everyone else, or its just me please.
The option is definitely there for me on MoDaCo 3.0. It is at the bottom of the "Display Settings" section, beneath "Screen Timeout".

Dave

if i press menu, settings, then sound and display, then as you have said, under screen timeout, there is an option notification flash, which is also written at the bottom, flash track ball for notifications, which i think is different, to the notification led, which is at the top, and anyway, if i untick everything, the flash continues, the green notificacation led continues, thanks

exactly that is how the menu works.
but back to your problem:
a) afaik the led is blinking green t signal you that your phone is connected to a network and the battery is not empty, not to inform you about a message?
b) the tiny little shortflashing led is really not that bad, is it?

My Hero (official 2.73.405.5 build from HTC) have NEVER ever blinked the LED to inform me about it being conected to the mobile network.
My G2 doesn't ever use the led next to the earpiece except for battery low, charging or charging complete
The trackball does flash white though when I get a message but that can be controlled from the menu posted above.
Fwiw I'm on mcr3.0 and rooted with original hboot that allows fast boot over usb, the very latest radio from the sticky and untouched recovery partition.
Hth
gotta watch this, i was sure i saw it flashing green without a message waiting... but it doesn't, you are right about this... otherwise it is used for battery status indication, this is what i saw too.

just out of curiosity: how did you install mcr3.0 without a patched recovery image?
I have a G2, so I fastbooted the phone to AmonRA recovery image, then ran update.zip from there. That way, if it ever needs service, it's just a quick flash of the latest T-Mobile ROM ([email protected]'s release so it doesn't modify HBoot and prevent fastboot) and back it goes.
Alternatively, if you can't fastboot, use a goldcard to get back to the original HTC RRU (with fastboot capable HBOOT), and then use Modaco ROM or whatever you want in update.zip format (using AmonRA in Fastboot).
Pre-empting questions here:
And yes, I know I could just flash a patched recovery, and I know that nandroid restore overwrites it, but it suited me at the time to do it this way.
I have the latest HTC rom, and the green led only blinks for gmail.
People should stress about having unofficial roms in the first place imo.

2 problems i cant figure out with my S3

the first one is every time i open a folder on my home screen my phone talks and says "folder is open" then when i close it it says "folder is closed". i cant figure it out for the life of me. anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? only way around it right now is if i turn the media volume off, but then i cant listen to music ect. its driving me crazy!
the other is right when i got the phone i installed light flow to change the led notification settings. but now whether i have light flow enabled or not, and whether i have led indicator notifications (under settings) enabled or disabled, whenever i lock the phone the led glows green constantly, wont turn off.
anyone have any ideas what is causing these 2 problems?
I dont know about the first issue, but regarding lightlow, at this point in time , it doesnt work properly with the us versions, I also install it and had the led green light on all the time, you still can use the notifications, but the color part is messed up
Uninstall light flow.

I uninstalled light flow. It got rid of the green light. I hope they fix light flow soon, i really like the idea of it, never used it before.
Other problem is still present. Any one have any idea of whats causing it to say "folder open" and "folder closed"?

AT&T 4.4.2 Rooted Moto X unlocks after missed call

I cannot find a solution for this but the issue is when I miss a phone call when the phone is in my pocket, it automatically unlocks, and drains my battery.
I'm running 4.4.2 rooted on my AT&T Moto X, and I thought 4.4.2 would fix it. I do not have a screen lock
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Hmm sounds like a strange issue...
You mean you don't have a screen pin/code/password, or that you don't have even the sliding unlock button?
Have a look in Settings > Display
What timeout do you have listed under sleep? The default is 30seconds, but it goes all the way up to 30min (which I would expect could definitely drain some battery...

I do not have a password lock on my phone, Just the active display slide to unlock the phone. When a call comes in, I get the display to answer or ignore, but if I leave it go, it will just unlock to the home screen, then after a short time, the screen will shut off.
Thanks!

Ok, that is definitely not normal. Are you BL unlocked, or are you using the Pie root exploit? Or Safestrap?
I would suggest flashing the entire 4.4.2 AT&T SBF file using the manual method as described in the Return to Stock thread:
DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE USING SAFESTRAP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515
You will download the 4.4.2 AT&T SBF file from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
As I seem to be telling people often, the only way to fix a corrupted filesystem (OR modifications made by previous exploits like Pwn/SlapMyMoto and MotoWpNoMo) is to flash the entire SBF file. Performing a "factory reset" cannot repair a damaged filesystem.
Often, it will fix ALL of your problems.
Good Luck
Did you install any apps, that plays with those settings after rooting?
thanks for the replies guys...I don't think so on the apps after root. IIRC, it did this before rooting the phone, so I thought it was a 4.4 issue.
it will unlock to the home page after every call, unless I answer, or ignore the call.
I'm using Xposed with these modules:
App Settings
GravityBox
HideCarrierMotoX
MinMinGuard
SoftkeysFadeMod
Twisty Switch
Xblast Tools
XPrivacy.
Again, I do not have a lock screen..when I try to enable one it does something funky with my electronic buttons, even after reboot. Not sure if it's because of SoftKeysFadeMod, or what..
I'm surprised others have not had this issue.
Thanks for you help.

May I ask if I understand correctly? You have no security setting, only active display enabled. If this is the case, this seems like normal behavior.
You screen turns on when you get a call, you don't answer. Until the screen time out kicks in, you see your home screen.
Once it goes dark, you should have an active display notification.
What Am i missing or what behavior are you expecting?

you pretty much hit it on the head...I was hoping the phone's display would not unlock to my desktop if I miss a call, but rather show the missed call on the active display.
I'm going to enable a security setting, and see if this changes the outcome.
Thanks
After enabling the swipe to unlock, I no longer have an issue with my phone unlocking when I miss a call. That seems to be the solution.

Wear24 - Stay awake when charging not working

I would have asked Verizon, but I need a Verizon number to contact customer support.
I enabled the developer options on my smartwatch and toggled on the option to stay awake when charging, but the screen still turns off. It even turns off if ambient mode is enabled. I suspect it has something to do with dock mode overriding those settings. Is anyone else having this problem or found a solution?
Thanks!
Edit:
I found you can disable the charging app from settings. This prevents dock mode from starting, but doesn't keep the screen on. I found that enabling stay awake while charging in developer options keeps apps open but turns off the back-light. If you look very closely, you can see whatever is open faintly. Disabling it will go to ambient mode, but still switch off the screen.
I finally wrote a quick app to do what I want.

No. Mine works without debugging on or the stay awake while charging option. It also works fine with always on screen setting on or off. I'm assuming you are using the Wear24. If your watch was running Oreo it might be more aggressive about stopping the app, but I wrote a case for that.
Is the notification displaying? If you dismiss that Android Wear may stop the background process.
For me I'm unable to disable it it's on all the time while charging enabled or disabled

Lock screen notification problem

Hi, I have a Lex727 with eui s21 stock and when a notification arrive the screen don't turn on, I have to unlock with the fingerprint sensor to see the notification.
It any way to change that?
Hmm. Never heard of that problem. I'm on 20s. Maybe try some things from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/guide-how-to-past-notification-issue-eui-t3497530
You ought to switch to a custom ROM. eUI notifications are just royally screwed up in general.

I already tried everything they say on that link and the notifications arrive but I have to turn on the screen to see them. I know that Android 6 does not bring ambient display but I thought that I could see the notifications without having to unlock the screen, my previous phone has Android 8 so I have to get used to this previous version.
Thanks for your help!!
