WIFI Calling now available - AT&T LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

This morning I received an ota that enables wifi calling. It's about time AT&T gave us this feature. Not sure what else was in the ota but I'm sure they patched the security holes that everyone has been talking about lately. There's no information available yet but as soon as I find it I'll post it. Screenshots show ota software version and wifi calling.

Thanks for letting me know I never would have noticed that since I use a 3rd party launcher I'll have to check it out [emoji41]
Edit: The app drawer is still not available on mine but that's ok I never use the stock launcher anyway

AT&T cloud backup for SMS/MMS with default messaging app. It was syncing all day on my BFs G5 until I turned it off after work. He said it kept killing his battery. (I'd hate to see what the data is on his line too thankfully he was home on Wifi the majority of the day) It completely borked MMS on my S7 edge when AT&T pushed the update, had to install Google messenger to get a picture to come through or be received. It probably failed 70-80% of the time. May want to keep an eye on that if you use the default messaging app.

Its lg home UX 5 VERSION 5.1.13 that what mine updated to.and added app drawer plus Wi-Fi calling. And July security patch.it was over 600 megabites I do believe.

Has anyone figured out if you can disable this entirely unnecessary and incredibly annoying persistent notification about "mobile data not enabled" now? I didn't want to update and now I'm forced to deal with this ****. No.

Just got an OTA update - Fingers crossed for Cell Standby Fix

Just received an OTA update to Android. Still shows version 4.0.4 but it looks like it has updated the kernel. Hopefully this is a fix for the cell standby issue. It was only 8.54Mb so it looks promising.
Screenshots here

The transition from apps to the home screen when pressing the home key seems loads smoother and faster so that looks like it is one fix

Just updated mine via Kies - Home button much more responsive
Is the predictive text fixed? Meaning does it still erase everything in "My word list" when you reboot.
is it region specific or global?

I believe its UK (BTU CSC) carrier unbranded, though havent flashed yet.
I haven't noticed anything other than the home button seems more responsive yet. My battery is at 81% which is good going for mid-day but i'll give it a charge and see how the cell standby looks.
Will this break root?
Hi guys, have you noticed that the home button gets more responsive/faster when you disable s-voice. After "double tapping home button to start s-voice" is disabled, it no longer waits for the "second press", and gets to home much faster.
To disable it, start s-voice /menu/settings/

I think it's pretty well know that at least part of the delay is there by design to allow for double press to activate S-Voice.

Try Kies
It looks like it fixes memory issues with TouchWiz having to reload after exiting multiple programs
Thanks. I'll have a look for the download version when I get home.

Question remains
Those who have tried it, does it break root or do you still have root?
Yes it did break root for me, only on titanium though. Reinstalled it and busybox and all ok now

I am on Omega 4.1. No update via phone and Kies tell me that my phone is not supported for OTAs. Is it because of the custom ROM? Anyone having a link for this update.

Ghost App requiring permissions unknown warnings

My dad and I both have AT&T S4s, and he is not tech savvy or anything. Basically uses his phone for the minimum. I take care of his phone tho, and when I knew the 4.3 update was available after trying it myself I updated his phone to MK2.
He's kept the same apps since he updated hasn't installed new ones yet ever since the update he gets this message randomly throughtiut the day.
It comes and it doesn't tell which app is causing the alert to trigger and when he clicks View Apps all it does it take you to the manage apps settings screen...
I have gone through the settings in his phone countless times, even gone as far as to cross reference the time of the alerts to App Ops to see if I could narrow it down... But what am I missing!!!?
I have never seen this before and I have been with android forever! Has anyone else noticed this since the 4.3 update. Or even before it? What do I do!!!

If anyone can advise a fix, that would be so appreciated. I am almost ready to try a full reset, but my dad doesn't want to lose his data so I'm trying to save that for my last resort..

Hey guys
How do you update Knox? I can't find an option in any of the settings screens and since there is no "app" to open that is Knox I don't know how to update it. He is still getting the message
Oddly enough it seems to be triggered every time he turns on his WiFi and connects to a network.

Security Update

Just got a Samsung security policy update pop up window on my phone. Said it will overwrite existing security software etc etc. I denied it as it may block my only possibility at root. Anyone else seeing this?? VZW Black GN4

Yeah, of course I wasn't going to accept that
Has anyone figured out a way to opt out of this permanently? I've been getting this popup every couple of days or so and even though it only takes a couple of seconds to decline/swipe away the notification, it's pretty annoying. So far I've disabled the Samsung Link Platform apps, the Push Service, and Samsung updates but the notification still seems to pop up.
I have been denying it too. Afraid of losing possibility of future root

I stopped getting the notifications. Don't know why...
I think you can turn it off under the Security section of the system menus. In there there's a section for security updates and turning off automatic updates.
Not sure if this will remove the notifications or not.
yeah I've been getting it every day or two too, I'm on att tho. can't untick the notification for it, but hey fun fact; if you ever wanted to see what every single permission in your phone was, look no further than this app, cause it wants them all -.-..
I never got the update. Is it possible I clicked on something that auto updates my phone without consent?
No keep getting the damn notice to click here to send security reports.
No matter how many times I click no or anything, it still pops up every day several times.
Screw you suckassrizon
Haven't gotten it. Hopefully never do
Got it but denied of course.
I just keep denying it even as it does not go away.

You're right Chuck_IV - Settings>Security>scroll down to Security Update policy>Security Policy Updates> Uncheck "Automatic Updates then go back and uncheck "Send Security Reports" id it's checked... thanks for the info, Chuck.

Light Flow update???

Hi,
I am wondering if any of you guys use Light Flow on the 6P and if you updated in the last day or so? I update it last night and a persistent notification is now in my notification bar and will not remove itself.
FYI the persistent notification thing is unselected in light flow (see attached).
Any ideas? Any of you experience the same thing???

I looked in the play store and there are many people complaining the new update is showing the persistent icon and no way to disable it.
Also you could go to settings and go to apps and try this:
settings>Apps>notifications>Block all
see if that resolves it

thanks for the reply, but if i block all notifications, i then get no notifications at all from light flow.
The developer is aware of the situation. Unfortunately it is a Marshmallow issue. He is working on a "legacy" app that will deal with the persistent notification. If you check the reviews in the play store he has replied to the recent complaints. On a side note it is situations like this that has taught me to not immediately update an important app without reading the reviews for a few days. Either that or have a titanium backup handy if the updated app is not playing nicely!

Here's Reactle's blog post on the persistent notification and other changes for Marshmallow: http://www.reactle.com/2015/10/changes-for-android-6-marshmallow.html
Basically, they were exploiting a flaw in the OS itself to gain control of the LED without a notification or root. That flaw has been fixed, and now without having that persistent notification LightFlow will crash.

It do to your location settings. If you want it to stay off go to your location settings and select GPS only. For some reason some of the apps are turning on Wifi to find your location. I had the same issue but could not figure out which app was doing it.
Thanks dude this was happening to me too

I updated a few apps thru the play store yesterday with Android System Webview being among them. Afterwards, looking at my wifi tab, I noticed it's not blinking with like before. I think the latest "Android System Webview" may have fixed this issue.

Changes in router's Wireless Security had caused it in my case
I had this issue and was causing me real headache. I initially thought it was hardware failure of my phone but later I found reason is something else.
For some reason I had changed Wireless Security of my WiFi router from WPA2 Personal to something else (I guess WEP).
That was causing my phone (intex cloud 4g) often to turn on and off WiFi on its own. I changed the Wireless Security back to WPA2 Personal and phone is now back to normal (not turning WiFi on and off on its own)
