[Q] Redmi 2 1GB/Pokemon Go - MIUI vs Android M ROM's - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

How are you, users? I know about the Pokemon Go fever is affecting everyone ... but let the matter.
I have a Redmi 2 (1GB), and I know that recommended by the Niantic is the utilization of an Android phone with 2GB of RAM. But the game can run normally in the official MIUI!, in other case, M based custom rom's are soo laggy...
Anyone know why or a solution or a custom rom good for that?
I'm asking because recently bought a sd card uhs-1 and miss Adoptable storage, and pure android. :crying:

Okay, let's go!
Android M is really heavier in RAM than the stock KitKat. I saw this playing Pokémon GO. After trying many ROMs and kernels, LMK values, optimized KSM, ZRAM, the game continued to crash, slowdown. Well, the problem could be only one: RAM.
After this I started to search a debloated KK rom. KitKat is lighter than LP and MM. And I found this: http://forum.miuirom.com.br/index.php?threads/rom-miui-8-miui-brasil-e-miui-global-6-7-21.506/
The download link is: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424948969 (for Redmi2 1GB)
Its a debloated version of KK MIUI8. Its blazing fast, and runs Pokémon GO fine, without any problems. I am learning something to develop a KK kernel with more features to this, specially to improve battery life. Maybe it will be available in next weeks.
Well, lets catch Pokémon!

Thanks, Dan_Jacques! I'm facing the same problem but I'm looking for a stable, non-MIUI KitKat rom. Would you happen to know any?

It's made from MIUI Brazil community. I liked the overall performance. It's a MIUI8 KK debloated.

I've tried it and really liked it, but I had two problems with it: wasn't getting push notifications (from Whatsapp messages, for example), and couldn't install Google Play Music. I think I'll try it again sometime, maybe with the next update!!

My redmi 2 is 16gb storage and 2gb of ram. On custom roms pokemon go always laggy even mine is 2gb of ram. On the other hand when i use miui 7/8 th game is so smooth. The only problem is that, miui 8 that i used has problem with vpn. It says its connected but ip address does not change. I dont have vpn problem on custom roms only on miui.
Hopefully someday there will be a custom rom/kernel that can solve the laggy problem. Btw miui 8 on mine runs on lollipop

You can try the MIUI8 KK through fastboot. I think if I can flash LP MIUI8 on my 1GB Redmi2, you can flash KK MIUI8 on your 2GB Redmi2

Do you have vpn problem on miui 8 LP? If KK can fix my vpn problem i would be very happy. The reason why i use LP is because i got it LP first on miui 7.5 via OTA. So maybe its necessary to keep using LP.

U can try checking ip buy typing "what is my ip" on default browser or firefox. Dont use chrome.
Then connect to vpn check ip again. See if the ip change or not. If the ip change it means no vpn problem.
This problem only occurs when i use mobile data. If i use wifi, vpn works just fine

does this debloated KK MIUI8 offers the option of installing apps to the SD card?

If you are staying stock, go with the latest 4.2.2 firmware as it has improvements in regard of gaming drivers and lags compared to 4.1.2.
There's GENNXT, that's the most stable available stock based ROM.
Advantage of stock would be better gaming experience, samsung apps and dual SIM functionality
While the down side would be the usage of RAM is a little higher, as can be expected by stock based ROMs, so expect freezes and lags every now and then.
If you are going custom, in 4.2.2 there's only CM11 that was just released 3 days ago. If you opt to downgrade to 4.1.2, there's an array of ROMs available like PAC-MAN, MoKee, SlimBean, Resurrection and so on.
Personally I would recommend SlimBean, as it's the one I'm usually on and it's the one with the best battery backup, but all of them are full of customizations.
Advantage of being on these would be great performance, close to no lags at all, and starts with over 500 Mb RAM free
And the main disadvantage would be single SIM functionality and limited graphic drivers from 4.1.2 firmware

for android 4.4.1 cm11(4.4.2 not available yet) you have to use a specific recovery which supports SELinux .....you can find more information about it on cm11 thread...
slim 4.4.2 if you are thinking about(slimcat which is called) , is not at all stable yet !!! so there is no 4.4.2 i clear again....
visit this link and see installing procedure if u want this rom !

Best STABLE ROM released for Redmi 2?

Hello, I got my cousin's Redmi 2, so I was hoping to put Custom ROMs. I've been searching around, but didn't seem to find the best stable ROM. I need a daily driver, and it doesn't need to be Marshmallow, but an upgrade from KitKat would be nice. I love the Lollipop UI. But still, I give my preference to the most stable ROM, since I don't want juggle around every single custom ROM available.
Thank You!
UPDATE 21/03.
Thank you guys for the poll! MIUI was getting all RAM sucky so I needed to get a Custom ROM. I've tried Nexus Experience, Resurrection Remix, HTC Remix, and Kuma's CyanogenMod 13.
Nexus Experience: It has same user interface you get from Nexus, but it lacks multitasking capabilities. Besides most of the ROMs in stock looks like this, so I wouldn't recommend this. Link to Download, Credits:Nexus Exp. team
HTC Remix: This ROM is bulky in size, I've waited for 3-4 hrs for it to complete the download, and when I installed, the recovery ended with an error. But from the reviews, it said it has some camera bugs with the stock cam but Snapdragon cam is working. It didn't have the HTC Dialer also. If you switched from an HTC and want the HTC UI, you should take this. Link to Download, Credits:(--light--)
Resurrection Remix: This ROM was good, but compared to CM13, this ROM sucked battery more and at the first boot, the status bar had some lag issues, but after one or two reboots, it was working perfect. Besides that, no problem, this is the second best ROM. Link to Download, Credits:nick37332001
Kumajaya's CM13: This is by far the best ROM I've tried. Battery is the best, considerable less lag while multi-tasking, good gaming performance, and the basic MM UI. I didn't find any bugs at all. If you're looking for the best ROM, this is the one. Link to Download Credits:ketut.kumajaya
I've also found that, newbies to ROM flashing tend to think Official ROMs and Builds are better than Unofficial ones. This is a wrong perception. Kuma's build's are unofficial, but it had a much better performance compared to Nexus Experience. What counts is how much work the devs put into this.
Hope this thread becomes helpful to both users as well as developers. Great work, devs. Hope you keep up the good work.
Hello Venkatesh, Im using 2014818 too. Can you tell me which ROM are you using? Also, even after I flashed Custom recovery, I still see stock recovery, but from there Im able to access TWRP. is this expected behavior? Please tell stable roms for Redmi 2 2014818

Blisspop ROM
I have flashed Blisspop ROM, run smoothly until now ( more than 2 days)
Kumajaya's Marshmellow as daily driver. Using since last december, never crash-rebooted and rare bugs. Battery could have been better. And camera, obviously you can't beat MIUI's stock camera but it's all right.
cm 13 by kuma is already stable because basic functionality of redmi 2 is now working been using till now
Thanks guys! I've updated my OP, with reviews.
@rohitaar I'm too on cm 13 its smooth stable, but have you tried aosp caf,if yes how's it? I like idea of pure aosp ROM on which I could use xposed if I want any feature. Please review it if you can
I must add the (at least) here, none of the MM ROMs has a working adb, and some of has GPS issues

Do not believe this guy, I've been using ADB for like every ROM to batch install the APKs which I've backed up from the Stock MIUI.
ADB works perfectly. Also, I love Here Maps more than Google Maps, and it has no problems at all. Brother, if you have any issues with your phone, you should check it with the manufacturers, or at least other users, see if they have any issues.

@rohitsonone No.. I had a look at it, but the UI seemed too Ice-Sandwich type! You see the screenshots! Guess I'm happy with CM13! You can use xposed in CM 13, no problems, although I don't want any tweaks.
I dont think kuma's cm13 ROM has best battery. I mean it is not to hurt him, but the marshmallow changes which forces us to enable gps for wifi functionality is the thief. It sucks battery like hell. But cm13 of kuma had awesome camera and it had no lags at all !! Very clean and smooth UI. As the kernel source has been released for redmi 2 we will have wait for some good battery management tweaks. PS: I am using kuma's cm12.1 as my daily driver and it has no problem at all except camera quality and the battery management(better than cm13 but still . . .)
can anyone help me with the audio bug? {audio playing with speaker and headphones.} the roms i used tends to work normally for 10 reboots. but after some reboots the audio bug kicks in. audio playing with speaker and headphones. hope thats the bug with roms. I have used Ressurection Remix both 5.1 and 6.0.

Questions about CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM by ED300

Hey guys, I'm new here.. like super new and that's why I can't post to The Best CM12.1 CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM For Lenovo A6000/Plus (Stable) thread.
I would love to flash this rom. Stock KK is so slow and hanging every time I try to run more than one app (Spotify + Snapchat? Impossible!) But here is the thing. I've never did that before. I guess I know how to flash TWRP recovery and the actual ROM but I have no clue what to do with so many kernels.
My questions are:
1. Why do I need flash some kernel? I just want functional phone for everyday use with the best peformance+battery backup. I'm not looking for some "everyday flashing something new.". so can I just flash the rom without any addiotional kernel?
2. Dolby! I love music and I love Dolby. Can I flash Dolby Atmos?
3. Nobody is talking about heavy RAM usage (like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram - that's all I need actually). I know, 1 Gb is not many but I was suprised when my friend's 1GB ram phone can handle running Snapchat, Messenger and Spotify in one time without any significant lag! HOW?!
4. What is No Optimization? Why do I need it? What is this good for?
5. What is screen blinking bug? I just want to know if I wouldn't mind it.
6. Is there any guide how to revert back to Kitkat stock rom? I'm always trying to be safe.
7. In Kitkat there's possibility to swap internal storage and SD card. Is it presented also here?
Thank you so much for your answers! Really guys! And sorry, my English is bad, I know.
Have a nice day.
i will be glad to guide you
1-make a backup for every thing in twrp recovery savet in ext sd -just in case
2-as a beginner don't disturb your self withe custom kernel section
3-just download the rom and update 11 and gapps
4-no optimization for advanced users who are like to use their own optimization
5-blinking bug is bug common in this rom the screen goes off for 1 sec and turn on again
6-you have to try the rom by your self to judge it for me it is the best rom i have in this device

i have a question too that which rom is stable, ive tried cyanogenmod 12.1 but it lags i believe it hits a bottleneck limit causing it to lag because i cant seem to browse websites on chrome in peace without it hanging for a few...is there any other stable lollipop rom which doesnt consume too much RAM or should i add a custom kernel to squeeze out more performance

Custom kernels r used to squeeze more power and performance, so that u can get the most out of ur phone. If u know how to use custom kernels, dn go ahead with the flashing of ur preferred custom kernel. All ur hanging and lagging isues will be minimized at a great level. I personally prefer telo kernel by Mr. AW., and used the balanced setting given by ED300, and some settings that satisfy me, i haven't faced any lag thereafter.
Good luck!!

Smoothest rom for heavy games like injustice 2, modern combat...etc

There are too many roms now available for 3s....So I am getting confused for which is the BEST for gaming ?
I tried the most downloaded rr and los roms but somehow rr rom lagged much compared to new carbon rom. (for me... I don't know about others) And los doesn't have the ram bar feature ( Yes I want the ram bar specifically, other features don't matter much.
So if anyone who is expert in rom testing can tell me which one is the smoothest rom of all please it will be a very big help....
I am not saying other roms are bad or anything but please if anyone can tell me it is much appreciated .
Thank you
And i made a thread earlier asking about how the f2fs format increases performance compared to ext4 but no one replied...
Can anyone explain it in simple words as I am not an expert in this area ? (As you can see I am a Junior member)
Hi. I dont think any rom make different in this case. The Snapdragon 430 its a very good "CPU" and you can do almost anything, but it's a low perfil CPU and cant do miracles. Yea, you can play a lot of games and emulators but I dont think that any Rom (Stock or Custom) can do a (notable) different.
You can gain better battery or faster UI etc. with a specific rom, but if a game going slow, will go slow with another Roms.
I used Stock MIUI, stables and Beta. Custom like Arvanasoft (MIUI 8 and MIUI 9)... LineageOS, Xperience and right now I am using ViperOS because is fast and almost perfect, and for games I dont saw different. I must to say, I dont play a lot and I most using emulators like PPSSPP and the result is same.

Mmmmm No, I dont know the difference between ext4 or f2fs, even I don't know which we are using.
About the Rom, if you want a MIUI rom, I think Arvanasoft with MUI9 is the best. If you want Custom Rom with Nougat, I used LineageOS, Xperience and others, but the best I already used and I am using is ViperOS. Good battery, stable, few customizations and very fast. Any bug till now.

Need a proper stock android for Redmi 2 (1GB model, NOT Prime)

I need a proper android, the atock android if you will. Any version will do but I prefer Kitkat as I have been on Kitkat earlier and I like to customize everything myself via GravityBox.
I could only find other custom roms and not the proper stock android. Is it possible that I simply flash any stock android on this phone, though I doubt that will work.
TWRP Installed. Backed up everything.

The only rom perfect for 1gb model is miui kitkat.
In custom roms u will find buggy lags in games.
And multitasking isnt good.
Ive tried too many roms but i end up with miui KK.
If i had 2gb ram model , it will be perfect for custom roms.
I like MIUI for others, not me
When I first saw an MI phone, I loved the custom ROM. I remember thinking, "This is the way for a normal user to have a little more customization without learning anything extra. It's great for normal users who just want to work with their phone."
I gave the first set to my sister, followed by my betterhalf, my mother, my dad, two friends, another friend, betterhalf's brother, again for my sister. These are the sets respectively.
Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 2 Prime, Redmi 2 Prime and Redmi 3, Redmi 4 32GB, Redmi 4 32GB.
I love the hardware capabilites of MI phones, and that's the only reason I buy it. But after I buy it, I want to put stock android, root it, install xposed mod, install gravity box, install greenify, tweak it to my heart's desire and then I am good to go.
I cannot live on MIUI when I have to pull down the statusbar everytime. I just have a custom key for it. Same for the torch, and a lot of features by GravityBox that isn't available on any other ROM without an extra step.
The only problem with Redmi 2 was that I couldn't find the stock android, I have Lineage OS installed on it and then I tweaked it. This has some stability issues but great battery life. Proper usage, with GPS, Data 3g, Wifi at times, a lot of screeen on time.

The problem is I have a 1 GB model. Basically, gave someone a new set and took theirs in return because I like to develop. Anyways, Installed Lineage OS, Xposed Mod, Recovery, Root, Greenify, GravityBox and it works like a charm..
