What can EU/UK users do to get the same level of service as USA? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

This Bootloader Unlock announcement just for USA users has annoyed me to the maximum now.
Why are the USA users getting a premium service compared to EU/UK users when we are paying £360/€450 for the phone?
All problems:
> No Stock ROM/Theme
> USA have up to date ROM (B02 Released for Europe)
> Buggy OS on EU version (B02 Released for Europe)
> Passport 2.0 for US (Confirmed 3 year warranty)
> Screen Protector for US
> Regular Software Updates for US (B02 Released for Europe)
> Great support forums for USA
> BOOTLOADER UNLOCK only for USA
There are a few more to add to the list im sure, but i cannot remember them at time of posting.
Anyone have suggestions to what us EU/UK users can do to get the same level of service/support as the USA
I am hearing minimal from ZTE about anything and have to result to the USA forums but they are not much help there.

Don't expect anything at the moment from ZTE in Europe.
Don't get me wrong, i like the device (preordered, will see how it goes) and i'm happy to see ZTE working with the customers in North America (to a certain extent) but ZTE just isn't implemented in Europe. They sell a dozen of differents devices and that's it.
To change things, i would say contact ZTE via official forms but they aren't responding...

Dont get me wrong either, i love the device but the support is just terrible.
The bootloader unlock isnt a big deal to me now, im sure someone later on will release an easy way to unlock and install custom roms.
The main issue is that ZTE are giving USA users such a premium service and a better OS which is way less buggy.
They promise Nougat when it comes out but will us in EU ever see that, we havent even got one OS update yet.

Don't buy it - this is the only way to say "change something".
I really like the Axon 7, it's almost perfect, just few more mAh but I will not pay more than the US (450€ = +500$ / OnePlus is 399€ and US 399$) and get less (no case, no screen protector, no updates, no support, no passport...)
Maybe I will order one by Amazon, open it and send it back. Really start hate ZTE.

To be fair, you don't pay more for the Axon 7 than the US (well, 13$ more but that's negligeable). You have take taxes into account, inluded in Europe, excluded in the US.
Not buying isn't gonna change things since they obviously don't really care for the European market at the moment. But i have to admit it's just too much hastle to go and rant about Europe to ZTE on every communication channel they have...

Not buying is the only way. It's all about the €$¥! Check the last thing with bootloader. Canncel pre-orders and few days later "ok, bootloader unlock next week". Samsung remove sd card slot and after so much hate it's back. They only care about money, like any other company.
U pay 399$, what is about 350€. Look how simple this is: 3,5€ are 1%, 10% are 35€, 20% are 70€... so you need to pay about 30% taxes to get the EU price. We even don't got a forum. The ZTE Axon 7 is not on the homepage of ZTE

ZTE Europe reps are just idiots... Just look at the release date announced at ZTE UK twitter (announced end 2016 while it was 27 july). I wouldn't take their word for it.
I agree, it sure is all about the money. But since they didn't invest any king of "big" money for the european market, they won't ccare about relatively bad sales, that's the irony of it...
On the other end, for the prices, you are not entirely wrong but it's more like 25.7% taxes to get to the same price point. Since average VAT is 21.5%, we aren't too far from those 25.7% (give or take 15€ more for the European price).

I really don't care about the price, when the service is good but this is just unfair. They pi** on EU and take more for less service. This is what makes pain to order Axon 7.
After flop release maybe no updates and with looked bootloader you just get f...d by ZTE. The last flagship they sell for 211€ after few months.

Everything you say is true. How can they release the phone for US and UK markets at the same time, yet give US users a more premium quality operating system than EU!!! like wtf haha Shouldnt it be the same rolled out for all and wouldnt it make it easier for them too

Does the US version not work in the UK ?

US users get shafted plenty. Most of our devices are riddled with carrier bloat that cripples resources. We also almost never get headphones that are included in other models.
Often we have to resort to International models which don't always have all the required bands.

Using the Axon 7 reminds me of a Samsung phone from three or four years ago. I don't mean the UI—MiFavor 4.0 doesn't look bad. It's just overloaded with buggy features that probably don't need to exist. It feels cluttered. At the same time, features that I do want like lock screen notifications and Do Not Disturb mode are made less accessible.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/08/10/zte-axon-7-review/
So, this is the reason why we need open bootloader. The Axon 7 is a beast but no updates, bugs and bloatware.

Try sucking eggs, none of these phones, ZTE, Asus, oneplus even get released in Aussie, I have to buy U.S. version through post forwarding service an God knows what will happen if I need warranty claim. Call them global devices but it's a limited world view blinkered by market size, share and $ values... Ahh but I'm still smiling

Well it still costs 1000 USD here in Turkey. The desire HD has a lower retail price than the HD2, unbelievable right? Well that's just the way things are in some markets. Here you can get and experia 10 for about 200 dollars less than a hd2. The iphone 4 on the other hand cost 1500 the last time I checked. That is a 600 dollar phone in the US if I'm not mistaken. So some markets have their quirks.....

With a lot less offense, I can tell you that the law does not protect people with low IQ. But it does not matter if it costs 500 600 or 1200.
On this site you can find it as a cell phone in our country.

Well I wish we could but in Turkey we get access to networks with whitelsited devices. Where as in many countries they have blacklists where devices are banned from networks for a variety of reasons, in Turkey we have a whitelist where devices that are allowed netork access are listed. So anytime you have a foreign phone you can only use it for about 1 month before it gets removed from networks, unless you register it. To register you have to either provide proof of purchase from Turkey, or register it using a passaport, within one month of returning from abroad. An individual can only register one device every two years. So even buying a phone cheap abroad is no solution. Also cell phones are retained by customs when they are shipped by mail or parcel. So we either fork over the dough, or buy a phone every other year whenever we travel. I bought a touch pro back in 2009 in Austin for 300 bucks and used that until lastsummer when I had an HD2 brought over from Detroit by relatives. This summmer I may have a lyer brought over or if I go abroad bring over one myself. Otherwise we have to pay anywhere from 50 -100 % premium prices for some devices.

Man I hate to here you say that. That is so unfair but different countries have different rules, and they are not always fair rules. I wonder why things arecso strict on mobile devices in your country? I hope one day things will change in your country for you.
Thanks for you attention!
I have to thank you for your help against a giant, your company just keeps me going. We must not allow abuse of our rights. And if we have to push for large enterprises to meet their obligations.

hi guys,
to share the experiece here in my country (sri lanka), a person cant import his own device from overseas. because phones with gps facility are said to be banned in the country. (because of the civil war we had until last year) but if u go out to the market there are all the phones for sale for much higher prices. i phone 4 is around 1200usd. hd2 is around 700usd. it was 1000usd when it first came to the market.
so the only way if u want to buy a phone for the actual price is to get it from another country and bring it back as ur personal phone. (that gps law applies only if the phone arrives by mail!!!!) what i do is buy at ebay, get it delivered to a friend in us who would visit recently. some countries do have useless, outrageous regulations indeed.

I don´t know how any enterprice whit this kind of responses can be 2 3 or 4 year, one of the most important of the world...
Dell replace me a notebook in 3 days, becouse it fault one time... thats a goot service. I dont have to fight with nobody in the company. ONE CALL WAS ENOUGHT!
Bye, thanks and be fine!
I had a problem with my HD2 as well, this is under 1 year after purchase (warranty covered). HTC has a local distributor that takes care of repairs for phones bought locally. However, I took my phone there and they said they are not authorized to repair it since I bought it abroad. They told me they had the part in stock and could fix it easily. I asked if I could just pay them for the repair. They said no they are not authorized to touch my phone. So I called HTC and they told me to send them an email explaining the problem. I did so.
Their first reply was, shall we say, idiotic. They basically didn't read my email and told me to send it to Singapore, but didn't give me an RMA number or any way to track it, no instructions on how to mail it and wanted me to pay S$54 but gave me no instructions on how I was to pay that fee. I replied saying basically the above, then I get a call from my local distributor who tells me they are authorized to do the repair now. I have my phone back and, fingers crossed, its looking good.
Here is where I have an issue with the OP. There is no reason why HTC would tell you to send the phone to China. HTC is a Taiwanese company not Chinese. From Argentina, the worst case scenario is that you send the phone to Taiwan, not China. However, the distribution chain is local. That is if you bought your phone in Argentina, then the local distributor there is responsible for repairs. You should be mad at them for refusing to do the repair (which might be illegal in your country, it is in mine) not necessarily HTC (though there might be plenty of other reasons to be mad at HTC).
If you bought your phone through some grey market importer, which is something we have here as well, then you get a discount in exchange for no warranty. I buy products in HK this way when I am ready to buy and throw it away. For something like a high end phone though, I require warranty support.
You're right. That's exactly what I think.
The reality is that I've delivered to more than 10 tickest in different repair centers, because they themselves have asked me.
I spent a lot of money to talk to Luis .. and others who answer the phone politely. The problem is that when you end the call, you think ... this man did not answer anything, just sent me, so that the problem is solved by someone else.
Post or register a domain, not just to waste time or hurt my favorite company. It is because I have more resources and I feel very cheated.
Apparently there may be a solution, yet I have faith. I do not wish, to publish the emails, where practically laugh about me a the problem he made my, but if necessary I will do to show you that this is true.
I never tire of thanking the support I provide the forum. In fact I propose where it belongs, a place that I have available to store files, free.
Thank you very much for your time!
Gerardo

Guys are you sure you're talking about the USD in all of your posts? Have you converted it from local currency to USD? If so that's an outrageous price.
What's wrong with your phone? We can probably help here on XDA.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I am very sorry to hear that. If I may offer you advice based on my own experience with HTC, have you tried to call the support at their headquarters in Taipei? +886-266-391-147 Mon - Sat 8 am - 8 pm (+8GMT). Its not useful, they will tell you to email with anything complex. However, get the name of the person you talked to and then address the email to that person. The first reply will be useless, but keep replying to the email, be polite, not angry, but insist on getting their help.
If that fails, find out who your local distributor is, if you don't already know. Then contact the corporate number and ask to speak with the department in charge of distribution. Report your distributor to them and let them know about your website. Put your website in Spanish and target it at South Americans and start a Facebook page for it targeted at South Americans and get as many people as you can to sign up for it. This is far more effective as a tool of extortion to get megacorps to do something about your crooked distributor. I've used this tactic with other companies effectively.
As for XDA being able to help you fix it, its possible, but if your problem was like mine, then you need a new mainboard. Its a manufacturing defect of the HD2.
@Skellyyy, yeah its accurate. The prices can vary wildly, its a huge pain. While, for example, the HD2 can be US$1000, another phone can be US$150 and US$1000 in another location. I have a lot of experience in this. Here, there is a large VAT and frequently only one distributor of a brand and they can charge whatever they want if there is no strict pricing control from the original brand.
The best mass market prices are for electronics like Samsung, LG, Nokia, Acer where the parent company is the distributor or retains tight control of local price. Then we have a corrupt and ridiculous customs office, so buying via the internet can be equally expensive. Personally, I choose to not support any of these practices. I queue up a list of big ticket stuff I want to buy and take a first class trip to Singapore or Hong Kong and bring the things back with me or use a shipper that I know can avoid the extremes of customs corruption. With the savings I get buying this way, I basically get a free vacation.
When I lived in Europe, I used to hate the fact that prices would be the same number value as in the US but in Sterling (eg a laptop in the US was priced at US$1000 and then priced at UK£1000 in the UK). This is so unfair and while I lived there I was far more circumspect in what I brought. Its funny but the system there, in a way, is similar to what it is where I live now. Its a PIA and can make buying online almost as expensive as buying locally. While there, I similarly waited for a trip to the US to buy big ticket electronics.
Buying electronics when I was living in the US was the best experience. Choice, great prices, online shopping, its all very good. However, its the absolute worst system for buying phones. I hated buying phones in the US far more than anywhere else I have lived. The lack of options, the ridiculous carrier control, a required contract for buying almost any phone, for a free country, its the least free place to buy a phone and there is no escape is there? Canada is just as bad and Mexico is no place to go to buy electronics.
Of all the places I've shopped I think the best experience in buying a phone, for me, is in HK. You have to be an educated buyer, know how to haggle and be ready to pay in cash but you can get the best deals. These days, you don't even need to know how to speak Cantonese. As long as you can speak Mandarin, you can find lots of vendors to haggle with. Then there is the option to skip all the hassle if you want and pay the regular price in a place like Fortress. As a bonus you can choose either the EFIGS or CJK version of the phone there. Then they get all the newest phones the fastest. Its like a capitalist market haven for buying a phone.
actually the most expensive htc phone in turkey costs 900$

Unlocked Galaxy Note - yes or no?

I am considering buying a Galaxy Note but I have a dilemma so I hope you will be able to help me out with it.
If I decide to buy it I will probably have to buy it through a mobile carrier meaning that I will have to unlock it to run it on a different network. I have someone to do it for me so I don't know what kind of software they will use.
Since I am new to Android, I would like to keep away from the rooting as long as possible so I am talking about stock software here.
Therefore, I would like to ask this:
1) Have any of you unlocked their Galaxy Notes? Are there any side-effects or it feels totally SIM-free?
2) Am I going to be cut-off from the official software updates (ICS and so on?) or it will be totally like a SIM-free experience?
3) Are all the splash screens, apps and other carrier-related stuff gone after the unlock?
Thank you in advance!
This doesn't answer your questions, but why would you buy a carrier phone and use it on another network? Why not buy unlocked?

If you plan to get the ATT one, I dont think it will get 3G/+ on Tmo. The intenational one I have definitely does not have that band. Unless there is another unlocked version that has those bands. And my international version does not have LTE as well.
And why would you sign a contract with ATT and want to use it on another n/w? Doesnt make any sense whatsoever.

I live in Europe so I am talking about an international version.
Technically I wouldn't be buying it directly from a carrier, I just wanted to keep the discussion simple. I would buy it from a store but they get it abroad, unlock them and sell them legally. It's the only way I can get it where I live.
Ordering from Expansys or similar sites would mean that I would have to pay import customs which would probably amount to 200-300$ or more.
Where are you from? There are more retailers than expansys

I live in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Since it is not yet a member of the EU, you have to pay customs fees for this kind of stuff.
I will be going to the UK in a few weeks and thought about buying it there but that would mean that I wouldn't have any warranty. Most sites do not offer warranty outside the UK or EU. Also, even if I found one seller that offers worldwide warranty, I would still have costs shipping the phone to the UK or wherever and back (still EU issues) if needed.
Buying the phone locally should give me a 2-year warranty so that's why I am thinking about that option.
if you get it sim free fromthe uk then you woudl be paying more than you woudl in say germany - sim free in the uk are about £500+
sim free means it isnt locked to a carrioer that doesnt stop anything regarding updates to ics, you wil lstil lget them just might be at alater date than other countries
unlocking is not the same as debranding which would remove the software and logos etc
mine is sim free whcih i bought on a 2 year contract and it is no different to any other note locked on the networks

buying it through a carrier does not mean that the phone is locked to that carrier anyway. have you asked your carrier or the store you want to buy from if they sell the Note locked?. my Note is bought from German Telekom/T-Mobile and has no sim or netlock. i just tested the Note with simcards from other German and foreign carrier and they all work flawlessly. so maybe you can purchase a Note at your side that is also sim/netlocked free.
All Galaxy Notes available locally were on foreign carriers. The guy at the store could only confirm that it works will all SIM cards, not that the particular phone had to be unlocked or not, but it was definitely on a foreign carrier when they got it.
I am not sure if the phones are debranded or not. Is that something that I can do on my own without rooting the phone?
So, you guys can officially confirm that unlocked (and optionally debranded) Galaxy Note will act as if they were SIM-free in regards to official updates, apps and so on? No worries there?
As for getting it abroad, it wouldn't be the best solution since I would have to send it to the UK, Germany, Italy or wherever if something is wrong paying 100-200$ of customs fees every time if something goes wrong.
I'd just like to confirm that it is possible to update the firmware automatically with an unlocked Note. Cheers!

Quite.
Also to keep in mind : in the EU, the carrier must agree to unlock phones after at the most 6 months.
And regarding ICS upgrades for the Note, they're apparently fairly messy at the moment. Locally (France) my carrier and the local Samsung branch are apparently more or less pointing at one another for a botched upgrade (at the end of June, note that it was announced as "we're fixing a few things, should be any day now" in March) where they apparently managed to brick a number of user phones. Samsung tends to communicate fairly poorly on the issue.
Other than the updated stylus apps, I'm not really sure the upgrade is worth it. And I discovered the whole "Kies" crud when I got this phone which really annoyed me since I don't normally run Windows (or Mac OS) and some operators apparently like to push their stuff only through that channel.

There's no reason why you couldn't. Possibly you'd get the Samsung update instead of the one from the original carrier (not guaranteed). But unlocking phones is fairly standard procedure.
Actually I got an update from the previous carrier from which it was unlocked from judging by the bloatware installed with the update.

My ongoing experience with winning an invite, buying, receiving, and RMA'ing the OPO.

Last updated: July 16, 9:50PM MST
First and foremost, my invites are already spoken for if and when I get them (none issued yet). I feel for those that didn't get one, but then again after my experience it may be worthwhile to wait for a newer batch or even avoid the OPO all together.
Also, I don't post very often so I apologize if this is in the wrong forum for whatever reason.
Alright, so I was pretty excited to see that I won an invite to purchase a OnePlus One through the Storm of Invites contest. I had been looking forward to this phone since I'd been between the Nexus 5, Moto X, and Note 3 for the past 6 months without really loving any of them.
Here's the story so far (some emails are condensed to stay relevant and on topic).
June 26, 7:32AM
I get the email with the invite. Words of interest in the email:
This invite indicates that there is a One ready and waiting for you in our warehouse so it will ship within three days of purchase.

I create an account and purchase the phone. $349.99 USD + $27.99 USD Express Shipping = $377.98 USD = $415 CAD after conversion (I'm in Canada).
July 1, 11:52AM
I get this email from OnePlus, as I'm sure many others did:
Thank you for your recent order of the OnePlus One. You're probably aware that your package has not yet shipped. We wanted to let you know that though your order has been processed, your device will likely ship on the 9th of July.
We apologize for the delay in your shipment as we work to optimize our logistics processes and will continue to refine our operations to ensure a seamless process in the future. As a show of gratitude for your patience, we'll be adding two invites to the three you're already receiving so you can share them with your friends and family. All five of these invites will be placed in your account in July.

I receive this email from OnePlus:
High five! Your order has been shipped. Please check the status of your package by checking your store account
Software updates moving forward will be handled via an Over-the-Air (OTA) update. Future updates will bring additional features and general improvements to the software.

Shipment picked up from Los Angeles, California. Alright, some movement!
July 4, 6:57PM
DHL is at my door, fantastic! Definitely the fastest shipping I've had to date - crazy... Wait, what's this?! A $32 CAD customs charge at the door? Wow. The phone that was once $349 USD is now worth $447 CAD (roughly $420 USD). Oh well, it's in my hands! Awesome!
July 4, 7:05PM
After taking the phone out of the box, I notice it requires a micro SIM, I've been using a nano SIM for a while in my Moto X so I head to my local carrier and grab a new SIM for $5 (grand total $452 CAD). Power on phone, get an OTA update immediately. Reboot, and then once I open the browser (primarily white screen) I notice the infamous "yellow band" along the bottom. Whatever, not a big deal.
July 4, 7:30PM
After playing with the phone for a while I notice that the rear-facing camera (you know, the primary one) isn't recognized by the phone at all. No apps at all have the "switch camera" button and a hardware information app doesn't even know it exists. I open a support ticket.
July 5 - July 6
Blah blah in the support ticket - I did basic troubleshooting to prove the issue (factory reset, check for updates), and then I ask the following 3 questions:
1) Are replacement units in stock and when could I expect to receive one?
2) I was charged $30 in customs fees when receiving the phone, is that going to happen again with the replacement? Am I on the hook for any shopping costs as well?
3) Would the replacement unit be refurbished, brand new, or are you simply planning on repairing mine and shipping it back to me?

I get the following response:
1. Yes, we do have stock reserved for replacements.
2. There are no shipping costs for replacements, but I do have to check about the issue of Canadian customs fees – please let me get back to you on that.
3. Your replacement unit will be brand new!

Follow up on my last unanswered email, asking again about whether or not I'm going to be charged for customs.

I receive an email from them clarifying the difference between Chinese and global versions:
China version and global version could support different bands.
The OnePlus One global supports these bands:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40
The Chinese version OnePlus One supports below bands:
GSM:850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
TD-SCDMA:1800-1920 / 2010-2025
WCDMA*:2100 / 1900 / 850 / 900
TD-LTE:2570-2620 / 1880-1920 / 2300-2400
FDD-LTE*:2100 / 1800 / 2600
* WCDMA and FDD-LTE only available during international roaming.

The intent was to save me time, but I don't think it's working. I've since requested that they cancel all of the Hong Kong/China RMA, and just RMA it normally through the USA. At least then I'll get a phone that works, even if I have to fight over the customs to get it here.
July 15, 4:00PM
Alright, so I spent most of last week arguing and dealing with OnePlus over shipping details and such for the replacement. To sum it up, I was told that it would be the international version, that it would ship from China to avoid customs fees, and that I wouldn't be paying a dime.
Fast forward to July 14 - the phone ships! Tracking information! Hoorah!
Wait, DHL?!?! From California??
Thanks for listening OnePlus. I called DHL today once it cleared customs and was told that the fees I would be responsible for at the door would be $34.71. Again. DHL mentioned that OnePlus did not mark ANYWHERE on the package that it was a warranty replacement, and that if they had the fees would have only been $10 for processing. So screw you OnePlus, and screw you DHL for trying to charge me processing for nothing.
I argued with them about it for quite some time, but it sounds like I'm pretty much screwed.
July 16, 9:50PM
Alright, so finally some good news!
To my extreme surprise, I received a call from Andy at OnePlus this morning. I had actually requested a phone call during the initial RMA request, so after several weeks without a call I definitely wasn't expecting one now. This is the only response I have had since informing OnePlus that there were customs charges on the second shipment a few days ago, so I was impressed to see that they were concerned enough to actually call about it. That, and I left some pretty heated words in the support ticket that may have forced the call. I'm not sure, but either way I was definitely happy to receive the call.
Anyhow, Andy assured me that if I did indeed get charged a second set of customs charges that OnePlus would have no problem reimbursing them for me. He sent a follow up email so that I knew where to send the invoice/receipt to, and so that's where things are sitting now.
On a side note, I managed to negotiate the charges down with DHL from $35 to $15, but not without providing them every single piece of proof I had (export paperwork with TNT, commercial invoice, copies of RMA info from 1+ website, etc.) that I had shipped the other unit back to them. Even still, I am hoping that they hold up their offer and reimburse the remaining amount.
Summary
The $350 "Flagship Killer" phone turned into a $450 "D.O.A." phone really fast.
OnePlus has had my money for nearly 2 weeks.
I have a OnePlus One with a faulty camera in a box that I can't use.
I have no idea when a courier is going to come pick it up.
I'm really hoping I'm lucky enough to be at home when they show up.
My new phone won't even ship from OnePlus until they receive the faulty one....
In China.
And then it has to ship back to Canada...
From China.
Joke's on me! It's DHL again...
And another $35 in customs fees, yay!
Updated Below:
Managed to negotiate DHL brokerage fees down from $35 to $15
Andy from OnePlus called me directly, offering to reimburse the second set of customs charges if applicable
Submitted invoice/receipt to 1+, just waiting now.
I'm aware that there is a chance the camera issue could be related to a bad flash or something software-related, but I'm not bothering with any of that in the off chance that it's actually a hardware issue. Better safe than sorry.
Presumably you already paid upon importing the phone so tax/duty doesn't apply for warranty repaired items. As long as the shipping label clearly states "warranty repair" you shouldn't get a problem.
FWIW I had a weird update too but fastboot oem unlock and reset cleared it up.

I completely agree, there's no way I should be hit with customs charges a second time on something I've already purchased by they couldn't promise it.
DHL is the only company that has consistently hit me with customs charges.

I think there is just some confusion regarding the "Chinese" phone. I doubt they were every planning on shipping you a Chinese version of the phone. Both versions are produced in China, so just because your phone was going to be shipped directly from China, it doesn't mean it wasn't going to be the international version. By shipping directly from Hong Kong, they could pay for the custom fee in one shot. If they sent it from the North America distribution center, it adds another layer of complexity that they didn't want to deal with. Their comments didn't say anything about shipping you a Chinese version - I think you read too much into their comments.

Instead of saying they were shipping me the same model, they told me the models were different and she couldn't guarantee it would work properly here.
Damn Really sorry to hear that!
Friends ordered 2 from china, the LTE bands don't matter since we live in Europe i hope for them that they don't get a faulty one.
So the hardware from the international one and the Chinese one are really different? I thought it was just software, kernel related or whatever. So there is no way to mod the modem to work exactly like the international one.
I hope for you that this gets resolved!
Heads-up to OP: I read a couple other ppl have reported camera not detected on an earlier build of CM-11s, upgrade fixed it. Have you tried factory wipe & install CM11 M8?

Well I think she misunderstood your question too. I think she was simply stating how the two versions were different. I wouldn't take her response as a confirmation that they were sending out a Chinese version.

All in all, I think there has just been a misunderstanding in the communication. I really doubt they were sending you a Chinese version to replace an International version unless you specifically asked for it.

Thanks, and I believe the hardware is more or less the same but in order to use North American bands you need to flash a radio and I'm a bit nervous to do anything like that with this phone in case it's an actual hardware problem. I'm worried that OnePlus may try to refuse warranty support because of it.

I'm not mad at her, I'm not sure why you're so adamantly defending her. It's not her fault at all, she just works there.
"All in all," I think you're voicing your opinion much like I've voiced mine, and I'm not sure why we're still arguing about it... You're allowed to interpret that conversation however you like, just like I did.
In my opinion, when I ask if the model I'll be receiving from China is different from the one I purchased in North America and they come back to me with "China version and global version could support different bands" that tells me that they are likely sending me a different model that "could support different bands."
If it makes you happy, technically speaking neither of us are right since it hasn't happened yet.

Excellent, yes I had just confirmed that with the customer service rep this morning.
For future reference, TNT shipping is possibly the worst courier for returns from a consumer.
They only pick up from 8AM-5PM Mon-Fri (which is when I and most people work), you cannot drop it off anywhere for them, I need to provide (create) a commercial invoice with my signature, provide customs information (ie: export license, some sort of harmonized code?), all of which I don't have since I'm just a consumer, and provide them with 4 copies of all of this, signed and dated.
Here begins the hour of paperwork and printing required to return my defective product. There has got to be an easier way.
Oh right, and a lithium battery form too....

In non-business speak - we're looking for a better provider, but I'm aware that doesn't help you at this point.
Wow I am really sorry to read that, I like must of us had to wait a week or 2 to actually get the phone (express shipping dont do any difference) but thank God my phone is flawless (knock on wood), I hope that was an isolated issue.
Good luck.

Value Basket Warning.... When things aren't as they should be.

Hi all,
I switched to the G4 a couple of months ago after growing tied of the Samsung empire.
I did some reading and discovered that only the European G4variant was unlockable. After some searching, I found value basket selling what they claimed yup be EU G4's at a very competitive price.
The phone was delivered and I began preparing to unlock the bootloader using the LG website. Imagine muy surprise when LG told me out was an Asian model and not unlockable.....
I approached value basket for an exchange and they said they'd get the imie reassigned to a European carrier. As you may have guessed, this didn't happen, I again asked for an exchange.... Still more excuses.... Please let us investigate e-mails... A few days ago I received an email telling me I'd had the phone too long to request an exchange....
The G4 is a great phone.... But I love to mod, tinker and install custom firmware.... So if you want a phone you can't mod, appalling customer service and to be lied to.... Try value basket.... Otherwise steer well clear.
sell it back on ebay...its like new anyway...but defenitely not a good idea to buy EU model in asia...its best to look for such in EU to get them.

The fact is I live in the UK and bought it online and it was advertised as a EU variant... pure dishonesty from Valuebasket......

Dead Pixel; **** Support for Canada and Rant

As many of you, I jumped on the Newegg.ca Pre-order which gave me the Axon 7, 64GB Quartz Gray with "North American Warranty" as well as the famous "Passport 2.0"
Here's the deal...
They don't ship to Canada. Basically making that process worthless. I got a dead pixel after a month and a half. Discoloured on the right side of the screen. So Naturally I thought, no problem, let's get an RMA. This is what happened:
Started a Chat with ZTE USA > Not a problem he says. Does some troubleshooting. Says to call a number to get the RMA completed.
I call the number, ZTE USA > Not a problem he says. Processes everything. Asks for my address; "Oh sorry, we don't ship to Canada. Please contact the Canadian ZTE."
I call the Canadian Number and redirects me to ZTE USA again > I explain my situation, he understands. Tells me he still can't ship it to a Canadian Address. I escalate to a Manager.
Manager speaks for 2 minutes then disconnects the call.
Call once more. Average hold time is about 10 to 15 minutes btw. Get transferred back to the Manager.
Says he doesn't know why it says "North American Warranty" as it's only for the US. BUT THE ****ING CANADIAN WEBSITE SAYS PASSPORT SUPPORT TOO!!!
He gives me a link to some ZTE Authorized Center for Canada. They charge me $650 CAD and are shipping out a replacement. I'll get it soon. Then once I return my device, I'll be refunded the $650.
This is by far the ****tiest support I've gotten on a device that boasts having an amazing warranty. I might sell it once I have the replacement. **** this noise, I've never had an issue with OnePlus. Should've stuck with them. OPO was excellent. The OnePlus Two was good and the Three would be too.
****.

Ok bye,
There are way to many whiners on the A7 board, everything from phone sucks because.... to I want CM now but don't want to contribute to its development. There was not nearly this level of whiners and reactionaries over on the GS3 board.... Ok done venting....
Hey you choose to make it hard for yourself, sorry you live in Canada and want to use US retailers, you should have bought the phone through a Canadian distributor if you didn't want a headache. You first clue should have been when new egg said no to shipping.

Can you please share your experience with other manufactures? How did OnePlus take care of your issue? Seems to me you got what you wanted from ZTE, you're getting your phone replace. What's the problem?
Looks like they went out of their way to honor a Canadian warranty when the phone was purchased at a US retailer.

B.S. newegg.ca is a Canadian distributor, charging local currency and tax and even have a local warehouse. It's not B&H or Jet.com.

Yea, that's BS. Newegg.ca is a Canadian distributor. Lets use a little brain power before replying to posts.

Newegg.ca is not a US retailer...
Bye, we don't care. At this price point deal with the service or go buy a Pixel or Iphone. They have problems too but you may get them resolved sooner.
I live in Oz (Australia), this phone isn't even available here... Had to get it from o'seas.
Will be interesting if I ever have a problem, which thankfully I haven't...
Comments are unfairly passing blame on the OP. Let's put ourselves in his shoes: if your Axon had a warranty issue and the support number doesn't help you until you're escalated/transferred three times, with agents contradicting advertised warranty guarantees, you'd be upset.
Newegg.ca charges in Canadian dollars, charges Canadian tax, and advertised the Passport 2.0 program on the product page with all the details. There's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't get the same warranty service when the same Passport 2.0 program is advertised on the Canadian retailer.
To those saying "we don't care", we don't care that you don't care. It's important for Canadians to know this is what they'll be facing if they try to use ZTE's warranty, it was very useful that the OP posted this.
Even though it's terrible to charge as insurance for the advanced replacment, and it's deplorably poor service compared to what they're advertising, at least it's some warranty. That's more than Samsung Canada can say. My brand new Galaxy Nexus barely used for a few days got dead/stuck pixels and after 3 months of back and forth with Samsung Canada their "managers" told me that essentially they have no policy on dead pixels for phone screens, only TVs, so I can go **** myself they won't exchange it. This is after they had me send in the phone twice, and both times it was returned with the firmware downgraded to the oldest version possible.

Are you serious right now fam? I have the full right to express my frustration as I purchased this from Newegg.ca (That's the Canadian Website if you can't tell). On the item page it states it's a North American Warranty. It states I have a Passport 2.0 Support. On the Official ZTE Page in Canada, it states I have those support options such as "Advanced RMA" yet they can't ship to Canada? They want me to drive to the border to pick out the replacement? Even though they are confirming in several places that the support is readily available.
Don't be sorry about me living in Canada. Be sorry about ZTE blatantly LYING to us stating they offer something they don't.
Just out of curiosity, what is passport 2.0? Is Newegg selling from US to Canada and that is where the confusion is? Maybe you can just return the phone and move on. If I couldn't get the support promised, I probably would too. It's tough because these midranges now have killer specs but crap customer service.
I just returned the Honor 8 because of loose and card holder. CS kept telling me I needed to hard reset the phone despite having done that and trying different cards. I just couldn't live with 32gb of storage and no SD card. It sucks because I like the size of the Honor 8.
To those speaking ignorantly, please note that Newegg, in Canada, is Axon 7's official retailer, and ZTE says so themselves. OP got all this trouble because of misleading advertising, not by his supposed carelessness.
Bull*** buddy.
ZTE has full passport warranty in Canada. I just got a phone of newegg.ca the bootloader on it went wonky on a OTA update.
I went to ZTE support, opened a chat and 10mis later I had all the info to get a free new phone shipped to me from Canada.
ZTE's warranty is done by dfComputers in toronto and they are quite helpful.
http://zte.dfcomputer.ca/create_service.php?warranty=in
They currently don't have stock of the phones but they will replace a broken phone for free with a new one or you can send your phone it to be repaired instead.
I didn't need to struggle for hours to get the info about the warranty, it was given to me right away.
compare ZTE's support to Oneplus for example and ZTE is 10x better.
I've had pretty good support from ZTE sofar, othe than a stock issue they've been very helpful.
