4G networks undetected after IMEI recovery/custom ROM flash (HM2014819) - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

Hi
Last june I finally got my new Redmi 2 Pro (HM2014819, ergo the Brazilian version) and as soon as it arrived, I decided to reflash it into the latest available Nexus Experience custom ROM. Before that, though, I managed to check that my phone did had access even to LTE networks.
Turns out the GPS got weird because I supposedly didn't attempt to fix it before in the original ROM. I tried the the modemst1/2 format trick and it also didn't work. So I flashed MIUI7 over it again in an attempt to get a fix in the original ROM.
When I got back to MIUI, all celular/signal data was gone, along with my IMEI number (probably from the modemst partition wipe). I had to struggle a lot and I finally was able to recover it using this tutorial. However, as I just noticed recently playing Pokemon Go, 4G networks never came back even though I'm up and running on both H and H+ networks.
Using QPST and QXDM, I delve further into the QCN file and I could notice that the LTE values were actually set for Redmi2 PRIME version, which are Asia-related basebands 3 and 40 (meaning the actual LTE value in binary had 1's in the 3th and 40th bytes). However, the Redmi2 PRO version supports South America-related LTE bands 2, 4 and 7, as GSMArena points out.
Using this information and following this guide, I also tried to change/write over new Decimal values that would match my required LTE bands, but to no avail. When manually selecting networks, only 3G networks show up, even though I'm sure I could see and even pick 4G networks manually when I first booted up my (at that time, unmodified) new Redmi2.
What did just happen? What CAN I do?! How can I recover the intended, factory original version of the brazilian Redmi 2 networks?! Is there something to do with modemst2 erasure, or IMEI loss, or even NON-HLOS.bin file? Aren't they all overwritten when you reflash MIUI through MiFlash anyway?
Please, PLEASE, help me! I'm already on the brink of purchasing another cellphone (and it won't be another Xiaomi, that's for sure) if I can't get this to work. I did purchase this sorely because of the 4G connection and now I lost it entirely. Come on! :crying:

damn.... i've done this mess of erasing modemst's too and got the same problem. VERY LUCKY of me, i had a twrp backup that i did some days before doing this. hope you find some solution to this and dont give up on xiaomi just for a mess that you did xD

Igor, do you think you could at least share your modemst partition and/or your QCN file? I could use this to find the differences between my modem configurations and set it exactly as the brazilian's factory default modem.
If you're worried about IMEI scamming, then a simple printscreen from certain screens on QPST/QXDM will suffice, since I can tell what's wrong from them. If you're willing to help me (and have a rooted device), please, do tell and I can walk you through how to get them. Thanks!

Follow this tutorial.
My signal came back but I'm having frequent signal loss. The only solution is to turn on/off airplaine mode.
I've to send it to tecnical assistant but I don't want to stay without the phone.
Acttually I'm not sure if the 4g works, because my city only supports 3G. When the data connection is on I don't loss the signal.

That's the exact tutorial I've followed to recover my IMEI. And I even mentioned that in the OP, bud. My problem happened after that. Please read more carefully.

Sorry, I just saw the second link.

Thanks a lot!

Oh gosh guys, I hope you can help me too! I've got the exact same problem with my HM2014819!

Did you manage to fix that?
Hi the exact same thing happened to me, I had no mobile internet at all and I fixed that qcn stuff but all I could find was asian versions, I get no 4G network and I have no other brazilian file to compare. If you managed to fix that, please please share, thanks a lot.

Any way to restore MEID?

Hi Everyone. Long time no see.
My Mate 8 bricked a while ago, and finally, I've been able to (almost) fix it. Repairing it required the loss of the IMEI data and MEID data. I found a tool to restore the IMEI, but have found no way to restore the MEID. I think this is why I'm unable to connect to UMTS networks. I can connect to nothing but LTE.
If anyone happens to know about this, please let me know! I'd love nothing more than to have this phone fixed.

Hey buddy. It's many years since you posted this message. How did you restore your IMEI. Facing the same problem.

[N910S] got it to work! Exynos Korean model, Eng-only custom ROM, no bloatware!

OK, *FIRST TIME POSTER HERE* so please excuse any unintentional ignorance of rules or etiquette.
I'm just super excited to get this phone working the way I like it, and it's all thanks to xda so I was moved to create an account to express my thanks AND hopefully help a few people back.
How? Well after reading through pretty much everything I could find on the N910S here and elsewhere, it seems that no-one (yet?) has been able to confirm a working mod that meets the following:
1. N910S Exynos Korean version
2. Some kind of custom English only ROM that removes the Korean characters from keypad and other network-apps
3. Removed bloatware
4. Easy-to-follow, how-to guide
Seems there were quite a few ppl who wanted the same thing so I just want to let you know what I did to get it working.
*PLEASE NOTE* Everything contained in this summary was found through over a week of tedious reading, research, trial & error. BUT in the end all the necessary information was contained, or linked to, in xda forums. It's just that all the relevant information and files were scattered over many different threads and topics. I'm just collating it all here to hopefully make it easier for the next person to find.
Background info: I'm technically competent but relatively new to phone modding - I've only rooted my HTC E8 before this to remove bloatware. This is my second project. I live in HK and started with a completely stock OEM Note4 N910SKSU2DPK2 after a factory reset. I then did the steps below in order (not including many failed attempts and re-starts, of course) These are just the broadstrokes of what I did, if you need to know how to do each step in detail then please search the forum. It's quite clear and there's no need for me to repeat it here anyway
As it's my first post and I'm in a rush to leave the house soon, I have not bothered with screenshots or links - I'm happy to provide if someone can tell me if the preferred method is link to the thread where the info was found, or you just want a link to the files I used. Again, they were all found through links in threads on xda anyway but I'll have to spend some time to find them again as I didn't bookmark them. Also, if you want the files someone will have to tell me how to upload them here. The filenames/packages are given in [brackets] so maybe you can just search for them?
0. Reminder to backup your phone and data first!
1. Root - was really easy using CF AutoRoot [CF-Auto-Root-trelteskt-trelteskt-smn910s] Just download to your PC and package includes Odin, which for first-timers is the official Samsung software used to flash to your phone.
2. Download:
- ClockWorkMod [n910s-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1113).tar]
- SuperSU [SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip]
- C Mod ROM [C_ROM_N910s.v2HNY.zip] (the site is Korean-based but google translate of the page was enough for a non-Korean like myself)
- N910S DPK2 modem file [N910S-20170114T050808Z.zip] The original thread had links to every modem variant they knew of, so should work with other S/L/K variants BUT of course I haven't tried them.
3. Copy files for SuperSU, CMod ROM, and DPK2 modem onto an external SD card and insert into your phone.
4. Put your phone into Download Mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Down + Home + Power)
5. Run Odin on your PC, connect phone. On Odin, click <AP> and select CWM file. Do not check or modify any other options. Click <Start> to flash CWM recovery to your phone.
6. Once it's done, disconnect from PC, and restart your phone into the new custom recovery mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Up + Home + Power)
7. Choose Install from zip and select the SuperSU file from your ext SD card. (I think this step may not be strictly necessary as it's part of CF AutoRoot, but SuperSU is always handy to have anyway)
8. Reboot into Recovery mode again (available in Advanced menu)
9. Install zip - now choose the CMod ROM file. Reboot into system and have a look around the new UI. It was at this stage that I noticed two things: my HK carrier SIM was not recognised, and as the ROM boasts some Note 5 features the Always On Display function would cause my Note 4 to not be able to wake up once the screen was turned off (manually or via time-out). I had to pull out the battery, restart phone, go straight into Settings -> Display and turn off the Always On Display functionality.
10. To fix the SIM card not recognised, reboot into Recovery Mode again and Install zip - choose the DPK2 modem file (or whichever version your phone's modem is). Restart phone, wait a few minutes and SIM should now work.
*ONE REMAINING ISSUE* Even tho my SIM is 4G/LTE, it seems to be connecting at HSUPA only. Could be reception, I'll check later. But I believe there's a way to select different LTE bands through secret codes or menu, not sure but I'll try that as well later and update if it works.
That's it - hope it helps! Thanks for reading, and don't forget I'm new to this AND a first time poster so be kind in comments/questions please

So by following steps in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-sm-n910s-sk-telecom-issues-t2929571/page2 for SKT, I was able to change to LTE Band 3 or 7 (which is what my sim provider offers) and get an LTE signal for data, BUT then I lose voice call functionality. If I choose Band 3 Preferred, it says band changed success, but just connects via HSUPA and I get voice, but no LTE (just like before, or if I choose Automatic)
Can anyone please help me figure this out? How can I get voice AND LTE? Many thanks in advance!
PS - also after I reflashed my modem.bin the baseband changed from N910SKSU2DPK2 to N910SKSU0DPK2. I don't know what this means nor if it has anything to do with the problem I've described above? Can anyone help to explain? Thanks...

Band 3 and 7 are supposed to stick with default settings. I tried it once during my trip to Malaysia and it worked flawlessly. Any chance you might want to contact your carrier?
The trick to switch from 4G-3G-4G works. ATT band 5 preferred

Have you tried switching to 3g only, then switching it back to 4g when available in your phone setting??
I had similar issue with 4g and apparently, this strangely simple trick solved my problem.
Anyway, I tried to download the ROM from the Achonapp but took me ages and I couldn't flash it either. May I know where you got the ROM from?

Tried your suggestion but now it shows No Service
*update* actually I think your "trick" works... After switching to 3G only, it wouldn't switch back to 4G and showed No Service. I rebooted the phone with a different sim and after a few minutes, it automatically connected to 4G AND I now have voice as well! So, all is working properly now and I'm a happy camper. Reboot with the original sim and still works and connects to 4G. So I think you're right it just needed to be "forced" to select 4G preferred. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah I got it from achonapp as well and it took a while - I think I left it going overnight. But the ROM did work for me. If anyone wants the file direct I'm happy to put it up on my google drive if it's not against forum rules etc.
But since then I've switched to miui8 which is also working pretty much flawlessly as daily ROM, but I haven't tested every single little feature of course. If you wanna try it - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70596588&postcount=797

Question about Flashing new radio image

I have been getting terrible radio drops on baseband 03.84. I am on Oreo with the latest November security patch. I downloaded several older radio img files to try. I also found an app called FlashFire. Is anyone familiar with it. I wanted to know if I can flash the radio img files using it without problems. Thanks.
Don't do it with flashfire !!!!!!!! I did flash the bootloader two days ago with flashfire and had a hardbrick. ( Like a lot of other people trying to flash bootloader and radio with flashfire )Yesterday I spent a lot of hours of reading and with big luck i got my phone unbricked, but that's not always the case.
Don't be lazy like me, flash bootloader and radio only with fastboot to be safe. For the rest flashfire is a good app.

No. FF is a great app for updating your phone(s) every month, retaining root and custom recovery. That said, it is not intended for flashing protected partitions (like bootloader and modem) and Chainfire explicitly points this out in the documentation. A different radio is unlikely to help you. You may want to lay out what carrier you are on, your geographic location and what you have tried already such as swapping SIMs from a different carrier, and signal data you get from a app like LTE Discovery.

Thanks to both posters for stopping me from using Flashfire to flash radio. I appreciate your questions, if you can offer any help that would be great. I'm on Verizon, in the Orlando Fl area. I have tried new sims, the one I have now was a replacement from about 2 months ago. I looked at LTE Discovery, sitting in my living room I'm at -114 dBm. What other data is useful for me to look at. The issue I have is many times I go to 0 bars of signal and calls drop or I can't connect to call. Looking for any solutions to this. I like my 6p, had it for 1.5 years, I would like to keep it longer but not if it keeps performing like this on phone calls.

Very few on Verizon complain about signal strength. They do rightfully complain about the many other things the Red Devil does, but signal strength is usually not one of them. I've found LTE Discovery to be useful in knowing what band I am on, what tower I am connected with, best signal strength location within my home/office/pub, what bands work best and when I get stuck with ****ty signal.... I can reset the network and it locks to a different band. This happened at my local pub all the time until they got excellent wi-fi. The phone would not give up (release) a poor connection and search for a stronger one. You can play around with Open Signal as well. They have a signal strength coverage map that is real-time crowd sourced rather than carrier propoganda. Once you have collected your data trends, you could then also try a different carrier for a day or two. Those Verizon specific images/radios simply contain additional support for Verizon specific add-ons like VVM and HD calling, etc. They won't make your signal better.

Thanks, I flashed an older radio and don't see any improvement. When I use LTE discovery and cycle the radio on and off it changes the band and my signal seems stronger, but then it reverts to the weaker band. Is there some way to lock it to the stronger band?

I've read of a root hack but can't remember where exactly. I think it was in one of the Indian threads. I'll look around. I still believe this is probably down to the carrier vs. hardware.

Do you have any efs partition backup with TWRP, if yes, try to restore it with TWRP.
Edit: for some guys it help to remove simcard and reboot the phone without, don't ask me why.
Edit: and some solutions from a n6 thread with the same issue, if the issue still persist

Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly, but the modemst1 and modemst2 partitions are not part of any Google image, they are protected and unique to your phone. You may or may not have backed them up previously with TWRP. If you did back them up, you can restore just those two partitions. If you did not back them up previously, you can try deleting them and letting them rebuild as in this article.

So you used the fastboot method and deleted the partitions, and it completed on reboot (re-wrote) the partitions... what confirmation did you get it was successful?
At this point, and in order to rule out hardware, you should fastboot format system, userdata and cache. Use the latest 8.0 full image with the included flash-all.bat script. Until you do this (including formatting the partitions) you cannot rule out the motherboard. If this does not fix it, the problem is hardware related and not worth repairing on a used 6P.

LG G6 ex-demo unit-legally acquired! H870V (dual sim)

Okay, so probably looks fishy, so to get one thing out of the way, if anyone wants to blame around how the device must've been stolen, I can make a video proof showing a purchase on eBay Stores close all the time, so what? And there is nothing bad about trying to make use of something that has no use anymore, so if you are planning to give me a moral lecture how I'm doing something evil by saving a good piece of valuable hardware from going to trash, you are welcome to turn your head away.
Now that we've eliminated the spammers, let's try to do something constructive
So this is the current state of the unit:
SW ver. V10f-OPT1-HQ.
Baseband ver. MPSS.TH.2.0.1.c3.1-00014-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.86009.21
Build num. NRD90U
Kernel ver. 3.18.31
What I'm trying to achieve is to make this unit have GSM network in EU, hopefully without touching the hardware, so that's the first thing I have to test. I read somewhere that it might be possible to achieve that by writing QCN and EFS with Octoplus box.
If someone can do a backup of their EFS (with Chimera possibly), I'd like to "borrow" it for a ride, just to see if that is true.
The other problem is that I cannot get my BL unlocked because I don't have an IMEI, so I have to hope for someone to make a workaround for this.
Probably could be achieved by QFIL flash, but that's never easy.
Since I don't know much about LG's FW files and how they work, I have to ask if it's possible to compile a "passable" KDZ containing unlocked bootloader or custom recovery with secure check modified so that I can get this thing opened?
Another thing which I have to report is that I found a totally legit way (at least on my FW ver.) to write/repair IMEI without root, just through service menu!
I don't know if other devices have this and if this is maybe not a new thing at all, but I find it pretty amazing!
If there is interest, I will provide some preview in comments, as well as APK if possible!
Right now I managed to write some generic IMEI.
It has a generator inside, it practically changes not only IMEI, but as well as MAC and some other stuff according to values which you set (I remember there is a region setting, so I selected EU_OPEN).
To make sure, I'm not trying to fake an IMEI and cheat my way through gaining network access and who knows what, but before I purchase the new EFS legally, I'd like to see if this HW is capable of running it.
So, another thing is that the network still isn't comming. I think the band can be set only on 1900 or something like that, but I think there might still be network limitation due to SW, no matter I flashed it with LG_UP and modem file got flashed normally as any other file.
Cell network is grayed out in settings, when I put the SIM in, it seems to detect it at first, but later in most of the SIM related settings which I tried to mess with in service menu it says that SIM is not detected. Generally when I remove SIM/SD card tray it detects it and asks for a SIM.
If there is nobody willing to borrow an EFS, I hope there is someone who really knows meanings of all these stuff in this service menu, who can guide me through a little bit.
I think there's chance that some settings there disable networking, and if I could copy and paste them from another device, it might wake up. It doesn't have reception at all, not even 112 and 911 at the moment, it detects no networks when I jump to manual network selection option (because I cannot access through settings), and that discourages me a little.
If there is any genius out there, get summoned please!

How does the service menu look on your G6? Did you check it out?

I didn't find a way to flash any other firmware. I think it's impossible to get network. I disassembled my own and compared the motherboard with the one that I found on Google images. It seems that a modem chip is absolutely missing from the device. That explains no network, even after generating EFS (at least in my case).
I don't know what is your level of knowledge, but for example, I've been trying to root Korean LG V10, and haven't succeed, although I've seen some websites selling custom root .tot firmware files, but I don't know is it possible to make or find those files for newer devices.
lg g6 demo flashed
i try to flash demo retail version of g6 with lg up, i put firmware h87010d and after sucessfull instal it goes wrong and phone start to go restarting.because there is no possebility to turn it off i couldnt do anything so i put the phone on table and leave it.after the night battery was off at 0% and i put it on charger and try to start recovery mode.after phone goes on there was a warning that recovery mode is desibled by admin.after that i start to power on the phone and it starts normaly with new software without retail mode on it.

Hi! Is your sim card slot working? Maybe you can send some links for your solution? In my case is LG up saying that h870v is an unknown device. I think that i have the wrong LGUP_common.dll if I understood correctly. And couldn't find the right one.
And the System is using ca 20 Gb. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader without IMEI. Somehow to get it rooted?

Baseband not found [XT1766 SPerry/Boost Mobile]

Somehow or another I have managed to screw up my modem on my SPerry XT1766 (Boost Mobile).
I only get Emergency Calls Only radio signal, Settings app and bootloader info shows Baseband Not Found or Unknown.
I tried using RSDLite to flash
XT1766_SPERRY_SPRINT_7.1.1_NCQS26.69-64-10_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC
which contains the fsg.mbn and NON-HLOS.bin files, but this doesn't seem to help. I've tried multiple firmwares with multiple different modems and nothing seems to be getting my modem up and going. Back when I originally updated I flashed the partition updater also. I have no idea what to do now. I'm downloading the 69-56 version to try that, but I doubt it'll be any different. If anyone has any idea on what to do that would be great. Thanks

Try my baseband updater from this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo.../rom-stock-android-7-1-1-rom-moto-e4-t3885821
It will attempt to update your baseband to the latest version (M8920_15000.280.06.58.06R) from firmware build NCQS26.68-64-11. If this doesn't work for you let me know, I may have a solution.
@Knuxyl
Are you on Boost network? I've seen the radio off problem with ppl using a different sim.

Yeah I already tried that but it jept giving me an error saying unknown command [ ]] or somrthing along those lines. i looked through the script and didnt see any typis. i think your NON-HLOS.img is different format than the NON-HLOS.bin files found in the stock firmwares, plus it's much larger. Anyways, tried a fastboot flash the modem with it and that didnt work either.

No I am not on a boost network but this problem goes more into firmware than network compatibility because the bootloadet itself isnt even recognizing the baseband. For the record I am still using a CDMA network like boost (Verizon)
Also as an update, the 56 version didn't fix it either

The latest update did that too many people. It won't work with a different sim. The radio will be off.
I bet if you put in a boost SIM, it would pop right on.
They changed something in the -8 firmware.
One guy building ROMs (not here anymore) made some changes to his build that got certain networks to work on his ROM.
He never got the chance to share exactly what he was changing.
It seems that if you booted the phone ever with the original sim inserted, it tripped a qfuse (of sorts) and it seems they have added a way for that particular reading to turn off the radio completely if you're not using one of their SIMs.

You are 100% on point. Sprint (and its subsidiaries) had Motorola Mobility to include code in an OTA update which would disable functionality of any network other than the original UICC (SIM). In other words, when you got a new Sprint compatible xt1766 (Sprint, Boost or Virgin Mobile), opened the box and booted the device with the preinstalled SIM in it, the xt1766 became forever locked to that network -- the OTA update carved that in stone. The update made it impossible to downgrade the baseband radio, killed all GSM functionality, and broke the radio on custom ROMs (the latter being unintended most likely). The only people I have heard of getting around this are the ones that didn't take the -8 OTA update. Like you were saying, I'd like to know what Jason M. done in his custom ROM to fix radio function, whereas at least the radio would work with the original SIM on a custom ROM. He said something about "adding missing symlinks" to the build.
I did this too somehow. I think this might bring your baseband back (it did for me), but... well, I'll get to the "but..." Anyway, Boot to TWRP, mount the Persist partition, then go to terminal or pull up an ADB shell and do:
chmod 0700 /persist/rfs/msm/mpss/datablock/id_00

Reboot with a SIM card inserted and voila, you maybe might have a baseband again. Hooray! Except in my particular case, I regained a baseband and then somehow lost an IMEI. Well, not really "lost," it's still there when I pull up the barcodes page... but on bootup it thinks it's 000000000000001. I still haven't ever fixed it, though I did manage to turn it to a single 0 somewhere along the line. Fkit.
But I don't know of anyone else who's lost their IMEI this way, and it's been too long ago and I've tried way too many failed fixes to remember what else could have triggered the problem to start with, so who knows. If you decide to try it, definitely make a backup of the Persist partition before you do anything...and make sure your backup turns out to be good first, not corrupt like mine turned out to be....sigh.
