Update from RU1.1.112 to RU1.1.124 issue - YotaPhone

USA user of Russian version yotaphone 2. Got notified three days ago of the 1.1.124 update but every time I tried the phone would reboot, fail to update, reboot back to android and re-download the update to try again. I made a video of what it did. After two days of trying and an unanswered tweet and support email later it magically corrected itself.
https://youtu.be/kG4tyuoOq0M
I did try copying the update from cache and sideloading. I'm rooted but with stock recovery. Recovery at least gave me a better understanding of what could have happened. Seems there was a problem with the zip. Apparently there was a problem with ALL of them since I re-downloaded it about 8 times before it worked!
I post this here as a reference.

UK user of the same. Tried the OTA but was still on TWRP, didn't work. Then flashed stock recovery. Now it downloads, and that's kind of it: I press 'restart & install', it count down to restart then just switches to prior screen saying "your system is up to date". Going to try pulling it from the cache and adb sideload weh I get a chance.

How'd the sideloading go?

Any decent new features / battery improvements?

Just updating to say have got a new phone. Loved the Yota for the first year and it's use when outside is outstanding but have spent far too long trying to update and fix things, it doesn't really last more than a month without getting intolerably slow so I've upgraded. Might get around to sorting the Yota out but probably more likely to just reset it and save it for sunny days reading in the park or summit.

at least you are getting something OTA
Ditto
Unfortunately, I get the same thing. I was rooted, but I unrooted (not quite as thoroughly as you did, as I only used the "Unroot" option, but we got the same results). Wonder if it is something wrong with the update...

Did you change ANYTHING when rooted? Did you freeze, rename, modify or delete ANY of the files in the original ROM in any way, shape or form?
Same thing here
When I bought this device 3 weeks ago, I rooted it with z4root. Not too long after an update disabled z4root on the tablet.
I thought no big deal, but then today comes and I the OTA update won't work.
Anyone more experienced than me have any ideas of how to get this update applied properly?
Me too. Update failed to install. Not sure why. I have also tried unrooting.

I'm confused, if I froze an application, didn't unfreeze it but did a factory reset...wouldn't that resolve the issue?
ok so i woke up this morning and my a500 notified me the there was an update available so as you can imagine I was very happy to finally have this, so i updated and when it was done it said update successuful but when I checked it still said 3.01......WTF
Not rooted ever..
Those interested in getting back their OTA, properly backing up their original ROMS or restoring them, please follow the tutorials in this thread:

Thanks.
I'm rooted via gingerbreak and the update worked fine while still rooted. It did break root. Just had to re-apply gingerbreak and all is good, back to root with latest update.
gingerbreak worked with official 3.1 ?
it didn't work with 'leaked' 3.1 ?
OTA
Ok after long night and hours of research i found out a lot.
1 if you have modded ad hoc in wpa_supplicant file recover the original file
2 if you have modded the phone.apk and telephoneyprovider.apk to save battery this is the reason why you won't get the update.
i put these files back and instantly got an update, i mean the exact second i set those back
i can't believe this my updates keep failing to install. FING POS i tried everything, factory reset
i have tried everything, even factory reset, it fails while installing after reboot
acer support are a bunch of retards, they don't even know they sell tablets????????
need help i can't upgrade, it fails every time
does anyone know where the install logs are
the log is \cache\recovery\last-log
Oklahoma City, OK noon CST
First attempt failed:
Changed the wpa_supplicant back to original and all went smooth the second time
I never changed anything and it failed.
**Edit: I rebooted my devices and left it completely alone after unzip and it rebooted into recovery mode and seems to be installing **
I had the same problem, It was pretty disheartening.... but I unrooted my device, re-booted and tried again and SUCCESS!!!
But now I can't get it to re-root using gingerbreak... HELP!
SUCCESS!
Ok. I got OTA update 4.010.08 (122.71 MB) this morning. It failed.
So I unrooted my device. Re-started it and tried again... SUCCESS!
I tried using Gingerbreak to root it again. FAIL!
So I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138228
SUCCESS!
Hope this helps those of you who are having problems.
No need to unroot nor go to stock.
I had the same issues. Then I simply used Acer Recovery to install stock recovery and everything worked fine.
Ceger
Acer Recovery?
Did Acer Recovery come with the tablet?
I tried the update numerous times over the last 4 days. Most of the time the download would fail, which I put down to my slow internet connection and overloaded Acer servers. But about 5 times it would finish downloading and then error out on install with a message about the update being invalid. I tried rebooting several times during this process. I have never rooted the tablet and only have a few apps installed as it was a recent purchase.
Finally it worked when I ejected the external SD card and rebooted. It may be a coincidence, but anyone else who gets the "invalid update" warning during install on an unrooted device may wish to try this prior to the download/install.

[Q] HELP!!! 7.014.02 Update Problems

I just purchased the A500 and have successfully updated 7.014.01 and then when I try and update to 7.014.02 I get Update Failed message. Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it? Tech Support recommends that I send it back, but it will take 2-3 weeks and it will be a royal pain and will be my last resort.

I'll assume this is the 3.2.1 update as it usually comes in 2 update files.
I'll guess your 2nd update download was corrupted somehow. Probably a good thing, as some people had bricked tab's as a result of a failed update.
If your tab runs fine, don't worry about it, and ignore the update. They'll probably just give you another tab, and you'll go through the same thing again.
Not really a whole lot in the 3.2.1 update anyhow. Only thing I noticed, is a slight difference in screen sensitivity and just a touch smoother in the app drawer. Other than that, no other real performance gains.
In a few months, they'll push the ICS update. So it will all be moot.
But, if you really want to do this small update, you'll have to root, install CWM recovery, then flash a rooted update manually. I think TimmyDean posted these awhile back, but not sure.
Or, you can just flash a 3.2.1 custom rom.
But if your tab runs ok, and you don;t want to come to the dark side, then forget about it and wait for ICS.

Nexus 10 Random Reboots

'My Nexus 10 started to randomly reboot several times a day after the Kitkat update and because it is outside the warranty period I cannot get it replaced.'
It reboots no matter what is running and sometimes it reboots immediately after a power up but never enters a reboot loop.
I've tried a factory reset and running it in safe mode but that didn't stop it.
I've not been able to replicate the reboot fault until yesterday when I ran the BBC iplayer and downloaded a 1-hour Horozon video of about 650Mb and when I tried to play it I got a reboot and that happened consistantly.
I tried a complete power down and reboot then tried to play the downloaded video but it always rebooted.
I tried deleting and re-saving the video incase it was corrupt but it still rebooted.
I tried deleting the video and streaming it and I could watch it that way without any reboot.
I've tried downloading three 1-hour Horizon videos of about the same size and only one plays without rebooting.
A check of running apps shows just the keyboard and a couple of system apps but I still get the reboot when I try to play the saved video.
I thought about removing apps one at a time to see if that would solve it but I've basically got the same apps I had before the Kitkat update.
I wondered if I could undo the Kitkat update and flash the previous rom to see if that would solve it for Kitkat was not a big improvement.
I've never used a custom rom and not run anyting other than stock software.
I would be most grateful for any suggestions on how to fix this rebooting problem and whether going to an earlier version of Android is feasable and how would I do it.
PS. There is a BBC iplayer option to download videos using less resolution and when I choose that option the Horizon file size falls to 344Mb which is about half the size of the original and it solves the reboot problem when playing the saved video.
So it would seem that the BBC iplayer reboot problem is related to file size.
It's fairly easy to downgrade, just Google "nexus factory images" and you should find all the old versions of android straight from Google. There should be guides online for how to flash a factory image. Just make sure to back up all your files to your computer as it will wipe everything.

Thanks for your help.
I've found the factory images and I'm now looking for a simple detailed guide how to do the downgrade.
My Nexus 10 is on 4.4.2 (KOT49H) and I think I'll try downgrading one level to 4.4 (KRT16S) to see if that solves the reboots problem and if not then I'll try downgrading further to 4.3 (JWR66Y).

Thanks for the guide link.
Unfortunately, my laptop is running Windows 8.1 and it is difficult to install the USB driver and Android Development Kit needed to flash previous Android versions, so I've given up until I can find the way to do it.
PS. I've found a way of installing the ADB and Fastboot drivers on my Windows 8.1 laptop and here is a link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
So I'm back on track to solve my random reboots using an earlier version of Android.
I noticed the iPlayer hard crash thing too. I can play downloads, but as soon as I pause it and attempt to restart, or just slide the progress bar to move to a different part of the video, the tablet hangs then reboots. It's completely reproducible, and doesn't happen on any of my other devices.
Apart from that, my n10 has now gone 20 days since the last random reboot, so it's a lot more stable in general than it used to be!
I've found a easy way to downgrade to 4.3 and would be grateful for any opinion on how safe it is and if anyone has tried it.

Arghh...this thing is a POS. I haven't used it in 2 months. Today I fired up chrome for some browsing. It hard locked within 5 minutes. I left it for an hour plus with the screen on and still locked up. Just frustrated. Worst Android device I've owned.

Either you have a faulty app or your tablets have a hardware defect. The random reboot issue, where the GPU driver would leak memory and force a kernel panic, has been fixed since Android 4.3 in July. This includes the Chrome reboot issue. I've had 2 reboots over 13 months, and both were cause by a ROM issue. I assure you, there is nothing wrong with the Nexus 10. Try a 4.4.2 factory image and see if that solves anything.

I still get random re-boots in `safe mode` which is supposed to only allow apps installed with the system to run which leaves a bad 4.4.2 which could be checked by a re-flash of the factory image or faulty hardware.
I was planning to downgrade to 4.3 to see if that solved the re-boots but I might try a re-flash of 4.4.2 first to see if that works..
I'm not very confident about flashing and I've had the additional problem of working on windows 8.1 on my laptop.
I am running the factory image, 2nd one with same issues. I'm not necessarily disputing what you are saying but there were plenty of people telling me they had a perfect tablet when the memory leak wasn't fixed.

The memory leak was fixed but apparently, it's reappeared for me with the latest kitkat update. Quite frustrating, you'd think Google would be on top of these things. What's the point of fast updates if you're waiting months on end for a fix. If I don't powerdown my tablet when I'm finished using it I can guarantee a reboot during use. In the last 24hrs, it has rebooted on me twice while using Chrome. Quite irritating to be honest
It seems from previous posts that re-flashing 4.4.2 does not solve the reboots and I've not found a way to downgrade to 4.3 on Windows 8.1 to see if that works.
So I've tried another factory reset, but this time I've not allowed any non-Google apps to be installed other than the Photon browser which I need for flash Websites and the Re-boot logger app to record any reboots.
I'm using my Note 3 for the rest of my apps as that is still on 4.3 and doesn't have the reboot problem, but that might change after the KitKat upgrade.
I was getting at least 2 or 3 reboots a day so I should soon know if running 4.4.2 after a factory reset with just two 3rd party apps solves the problem and if so then that will suggest a rougue app. which I can reveal by re-installing the apps piecemeal.
I've just had another random reboot so I've done another factory reset but not signed in to Google so there have been no downloads and the only program I've run is Settings to increase the screen timeout to 30 - minutes.
If I still get random reboots then it is nothing to do with 3rd party apps or updates for I've not downloaded any.
That just leaves the hardware or the original 4.4.2 assuming the factory reset returns to that.
I didn't experience any reboots when not signed into google after a factory reset so I signed in and restored my tablet using Google backup.
I soon started to get reboots again, but I noticed that since the KitKat upgrade a website I use very often was sometimes automatically loading the Play store to try and get me to use their much inferier app. It doesn't happen on my Note 3 which is still on 4.3.
If I tried to close the Play store app to get back to the browser by swiping it away then it crashes and keeps trying to load over and over. If I hit the home button the Play store automatically re-appears still loading over and over, but after swiping it away several times it goes away or stops with an error message asking me to report the crash which I did and the browser is closed.
In order to fix this I disabled the Play store app so that it did not appear in my list of apps.and the website instead of loading the Play store app re-directed the browser to the Play store website which was better for I was still in the browser.
Since I stopped this particular website loading the Play store by removing it, I've just had one re-boot instead of several and my tablet is no longer overheating. I am a heavy user and have my tablet on many hours a day, so one re-boot is acceptable to me.
I've downloaded a Play store apk which I can install if needed but always remove it before using the website which tries to automatically load it.
It is a nuisance and I wish I'd stayed with 4.3, but I can live with the occaisional re-boot that might not be noticed if I only used my tablet lightly.
I'm annoyed that a website can automatically load the Playstore without me requesting it and that KitKat allows it.
I hope my experience helps others who are getting several re-boots a day.
PS
I did a factory reset then removed the Play store app before using the problem website so that it never loaded it in case that was needed.
Flashing the 4.3 factory image downgrades everything. For what it's worth, I noticed that the userdata partition is constructed differently than in 4.2.2(my last factory flash). That could have something to do with it. But also, I've been on custom ROMs since I got the tablet, yet I've never rebooted on 4.4.X. I guess try a vanillish ROM(like RastaKat) to see if that reboots.

Now that I'm just getting one reboot a day and my tablet is running cooler I can live with that and I don't mind re-installing the Play store when needed for continuous updates can be a nuisance.
I finally managed to downgrade to 4.3 and I'm hoping that will solve all the problems I had with 4.4.2
But all seems well at the moment.
I'm not being booted from websites to the Play store, I can use the BBC iPlayer to download and run 1-hour videos and flash player works better.
Google has downloaded 4.4.2 (KitKat) but I'm not going to install it.

[Q] Diminished Storage Capacity and other update issues

Hello all.
I have an SGH-I337 and I am having some issues as of late.
The phone would not complete an update to the latest (4.4.4) OTA... and that's when my issues began.
I acquired this phone from a family member that got themselves an LG-G3. The power button was broken (would reboot constantly) and the card reader was busted. Nothing that $50 didn't fix... so after that, I received the phone and towel rooted. Decided to keep the phone stock so I could use it for work and leave my personal Nokia 1520 out of my work related tasks... so I removed Towel Root, and did OTA to NI1... but when the new one came in, the OTA would stop at 25% and reboot. On reboot, the phone would display the custom screen with the unlocked padlock... so I thought maybe the root/safestrap was not removed properly... so I decide to give it the Odin treatment.
First try, it stopped at writing.
Second try, more errors at the beginning, I can't recall them.
Third try, Odin stops at writing again.
So, I download Kies in hopes of using emergency restore... to no avail. Kies would simply lock up and tell me the phone was incompatible. I downloaded the previous version and no go. I then tried Odin just for S and Gs... and this time, it did work. I successfully installed . I337UCUFNB1_4.4_Stock_Odin_tar from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223
Now, the phone reports only (and exactly) 16.00GB total storage available... and it STILL won't accept OTA updates. If it helps, which I don't think so, I am using Google Now launcher, and UCCW apps for customization, nothing else.
Help? How can I get the rest of my storage back and be able to get OTAs for when the STOCK Lollipop comes in?
I would Odin nb1 again them do a factory reset and clear cache right afterwards. Hopefully that'll get the storage correct.

Help! NP TWRP Recovery Issue

Hey guys,
I'm on stock M and rooted and flashed recover couple weeks ago. Everything worked fine until couple days ago when ever I turn on my TV, the device will be in recovery mode. I'll reboot system and I'm back to normal.
I'm not sure if it just reboots into recovery, or if it's something in standby mode that does it? Can't figure it out. Anyone?
Thanks!
Same happens to me. Not sure if it has anything to do with a small update that's already downloaded and needs to be installed. Even disabling sleep still goes to recovery..
This usually happens overnight when your Nexus Player tries to install the system update that it has downloaded in the background. It's only a small security update with no new features so you might want to disable system updates using the method described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63698375&postcount=24.
Thanks a lot.
Was going to make a thread about this problem I'm having too.
