How to disable fast charge on A5 2016? - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Is it possible to disable fast charge in the stock marshmallow firmware for a510f (a5 2016)?
I don't find the setting. If i want to charge the battery "slow" i have to buy another charger?

You can do:
1. Charge it from usb port of PC/laptop/notebook.
2. Use an AC low power charger (max 900mA). There are plenty of old models.
3. Use actual charger but do not connect directly the phone, put an USB hub between the charger and the phone.
On custom kernels you have more ways to play with charge rates...

my a5 2016 is charging the same with the fast charger supplied as with my other asus charger which is 5.2V - 1.35A.
charging takes about 1.5h for both chargers.
how come?

Why would you want to "slow" charge in the first place if you are thinking about damages to battery do not worry as not much wear and tear happens to the battery by fast charging

aka what charger should I use for the galaxy tab. Is it fine with the standard cell phone style wall wart or should I use one a bit more powerful?

Ok. Your tab will demand 1,5A only if it detects a original samsung charger (or if you are using a male-female usb adapter which simulates it); because this, the original samsung charger is 2A limited. Using a different charger, if you are using the stock kernel, it will demand only 450mA, just about the current that the tab drains swithed on with not too much activity so, the tab only will effective be charged swithed off and 3-4 times longnthan using original samsung charger.
If you use a modified kernel that allows it, you will be able to charge the tab at 1,5A even using a non-samsung charger, but be aware, the charger need to be at least 1,5A supported; if don't, two things could happen, if the charger is about new (or usb ports in a no-old pc), it will cut the current and the tab will permanently be charging and no charging (bad for the battery); if the charger is about old (maybe 10 years), surely it will not have a current limmiter, so the charger (or the old PC) will get smoked...
So, you will need to buy a 2A original samsung charger or, you can use a 2A non-samsung charger using a mod kernel as A1 kernel. Temporaly you can charge the tab using a 0,5A-1A non-samsung charger with the tab off, at very slow charging...

Also note, about the voltage, all USB chargers are 5V only, and not 15V.

That is not correct.
With the stock kernel the tab will only (!) charge with the original charger, unless a special adaptor is used. When connecting a non original charger or connecting the tab to a computer USB port, the battery symbol is Xed-out and the tablet doesn't charge. With the adaptor, that fools the tab into thinking an original charger is used, the tab will draw up to 2 Amps.
With the modified kernels the tab will also charge with a non original charger or a USB port. In this case the current is limited to below 500mA to stay within the standard limits.

I've long time with mod kernel A1, I remember with stock kernel the symbol X you refer, but even I can not check it with current widget, I am almost 99% sure that really the tab is manteining the battery charge, what means about that 450mA, but maybe you are right and it is 0mA.
Both with connector (i've got one) and with the samsung charger, the current never will get 2A, because it is the maxime value form the charger, so because security standards the demand will be less than 2A. I checked it with current widget, it is 1,5A.
With mod kernels, it will depend of the modification and the kernel... I help AAccount to mod A1 kernel (which I am using) with this current issue, and we set it to allow charging at max current (1,5A), so the user should be care of the charger to be at least 1,5 or 2A max. If you plug it on a pc usb, three situations could happen: burn the power source if it has not a current limit system; automatically cut the supply to 0A; or automatically limit the current to 450 or 500mA if the pc power supply has this function.

Um, how about the charger that came with your Tab? If you broke it you can order a replacement from Samsung or find them on Amazon.

Yes, you're right, but some times you go camping and you need to charge the tab using a 2A usb car charger bought on Amazon, or using your laptop usb port...

Do you take that reading from the current widget logs, or do you read it off the screen when it's on? If you read it off the screen you're missing the 500mA of the running tablet.

Of course, from the logs and watching several values (helped by graph after measurements), with the screen off, and measuring both draining with charging connector and without charging. Measuring with screen off and no charging for some seconds you get the standby consumption (negative value, aprox. -450mA); the real charging current from charger is the diffeence between that measure and the measurement with screen off and charger connected (about +1050mA, so the difference, the charger current, is about 1500mA). I made several tests to check it. All this, of course, with A1 kernel.

I'm useing the plug from expansys . ch
Advantage: I can switch on the cable between sync and charge - all from a standard usb-port. And in addition, I have a 12V car-to-usb charger adapter. So I can charge also while driving around.

Fast (2A) charger: anyone tried on N4?

Hello, It someone used on N4? I'm looking one of samsung, is written 0,5/2A. It will reduce the time of charge? It will disintegrate the battery? Thanks in advice.

It will do neither of those (Well, maybe the battery will charge a liiiittle bit faster). The charging circuit will pull only a certain amount of current, most likely around 1.2 amps, no matter how much power the charger can supply.
The phone's charging circuit (load) won't draw any more current than it does from the stock charger, no matter how much current is available.

^ this. However, if the voltage is higher (>5V, if I remember correctly), you'll want to avoid using the charger.

Ok so is useless that "fast charger". I thinks that 2A in 1 hours delivers 2000mha so have to complete charge in just 1hours and something (to arrive to 2100mha)

Even if our devices were truly capable of accepting an input of 2A, the charge isn't linear; i.e. the charge rate isn't constant. Take a look at this thread to see what I mean! It's a good read for everyone.
Your battery gauge is lying to you (and it's not such a bad thing)

I use the charger that came with my HP Touchpad, which is a higher rate charger than the stock Nexus 4. It does make the phone charge faster, but it also heats it up. I don't use it as my full time charger, but its nice for a faster top up.

Recommend Tronsmart qc2.0 chargers, They are qualcomm certified, and featured quick charge brand.
I just bought a tronsmart QC charger for my car. How do I know if quick charge is working though? It just displays charging still...

On stock, it'll display turbo power connected. If cm, use Ampere from the play store
Hmm OK well I don't think the one I bought is really a quick charger unless my car simply doesn't put enough power out?! It only displays charging and I'm on stock.

Check using Ampere in market.
Charging time
Hi Guys does ant tested how much time it is taking to fully charged from 0%.
Does any one have turbo 25 charger if yes how much it is taking to fully charged with that turbo 25 charger.
I have the same question as sandeep,
how long does the turbo need to charge the bat?
Does the Turbo charger simply has more power than standard chargers, or is there anything else special or proprietary?
More amperage,my turbo charger is 2.4a, whereas standard ones are 1a I believe
There's more to it than just straight amperage in the charging circuit, here is a good explanation of it
http://www.androidauthority.com/quick-charge-explained-563838/
The newer fast charge systems use a stepped system to always give the most amps the battery can take for any given situation. There is actually 3 systems right now (I hate when everyone can't agree)
There is Quick Charge 2.0 (QC 2.0) used by Moto & HTC, 2nd the new USB-C connector has its own spec for fast charge but unfortunately a lot of the USB-C coming on newer devices are only using the old USB 2.0 spec - so no fast charge available. Last but not least One Plus has their own unique fast charge spec.
From what I have read if you have a good USB cable (one designed for charging) and you have USB adapter capable of at least 3.0 amps it might trigger the QC 2.0 circuit in the phone to go into turbo mode but it is not a given fact, more like trial and error.
The phone needs more than 5 hours to charge fully. The quick charger is a must have i my eyes.
I'll order the TurboPower™ 15 now.

quick charge became slow charge on cm13

Hi all,
I just installed cm13 on my oneplus 2.
I began charging the devices and it shows about 8 hrs to full charge (with the stock charger).
I changed the charger to a faster quick charge and still the device is slow charging.
Is there any fix? Or I have to go back to stock..
Cheers Gur
Oneplus 2 doesn't have Quick charge.
You have bug in Rom or somthing wrong with Your Phone.

8 hours? Yeah you definitively got a problem dude. One thing to know, if you use your phone while is charging, it will charged slowly. Try to leave 2 hours without touching it (twitter, facebook, whatsapp, viber, etc, they all have web equivalent) and see. But if it still continues like this, yeah, trying go back to stock.
Before cm13, it charged my phone in about 2hrs.
Change kernel to like boeffla or ben's then raise charge current. Stock values suck for some cable n adapters, especially USB charging dead to like 50-150ma. After raising I get about 750-1000ma on USB which is reasonable

This is the data I get when I charge the phone
Sorry can't load the picture I took.
I had this the first time that I've tried the cm13, than goes back to Oxygen and after some time when tried again, the charge time was the same of oxygen. Yesterday tried the vanillaos and again charge time to slow, so I assume that when you see this, have to make again a full wipe and reinstall the rom

Quick charger

Evening all,
My Pro been dispatched, and I've just read something to say they might not come with a quick charger as standard. So is anyone confirm please? Cheers
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
It doesn't, as far as I read in all the reviews (my pro in on its way as well). The worse is that i couldn't find any compatible charger with the pump express mediatek technology. In any case, again from the reviews, it appears that the charger the ships with the phone manages to charge it in a reasonable couple of hours
Inviato dal mio Redmi 3 utilizzando Tapatalk
Mine came with a charger labelled "Xiaomi MDY-08-EF" which is allegedly a "high-speed charger" according to http://en.miui.com/thread-105602-1-1.html . Using an external USB power meter it registers up to around 1.8A at 5V while charging, dropping down to lower amps as the phone gets full. The Ampere app doesn't measure current correctly on this phone (last time I tried it anyway) so you can't check it that way.
Thanks I shall wait and see, did see an anker USB cable quick charger on amazon so maybe that's worth a look https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CJ9OEZG/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_nxxpybGEQ7S20
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
It definitely doesn't fast-charge with Quick Charge chargers, I have two different ones and they don't work (just charge at regular speed).
That's for the snapdragon quick charge standard, the mediatek has its own technology called pump express. That's why the quick charge one won't work except as a "normal" charger

Hello,
I received my Redmi Pro one weeks ago and did some charge test. My Redmi Pro still blocked to 1A : official charger, powerbank Xiaomi, LeEco Pump Express fast charger ...
Do you have an idea ?
Tested with 2 Custom Roms: Xiaomi.eu and Miui-France (French users)
Thanks.
The stock charger is good enough for that 4050maH battery
I know one thing I need something better than the Amazon basic 2.1amp charger which I keep at work. 3 & half hours charge and still only about 75 percent ?
