LG V20 - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Is there any confirmed news about V20??

I can't believe there's no discussion on this! I'm psyched!
praying they keep the removable battery... Make it bigger and go with dual real cameras of the g5!
Let's make a dream phone... I'll take some front facing speakers too!

http://m.gsmarena.com/lg_v20-8238.php
OK this just popped up. I'm pretty much doing a Google search every 10 minutes. (bored at work)
Can this be true?
5.7 " screen
4000 mah battery
20 MP rear camera
Second screen
4 gb ram with 33/64 gb version
6 gb ram option with 128gb version
*drooling*
*edit* I guess it's just a rumor. Bah
Sent from my pretty nifty brand new LG V10

My troughs about this news:
- Hope LG dont screw everything like in V10, hope for better battery, better dual front camera (without that beauty mode, because they screw it with that), hope for a better speaker or at least stereo front facing speakers.
Power isnt problem, make it with SD821/823 and put 6GB DDR4 RAM and 64 internal with microSD support and dont do too much variants with diferent sizes, make one worldwide version with same specs and we be happy!
5.7 inch is enough but why not remove the second screen (i know is a V10 exclusive feature and V20 will be nothing witout this but...) and make screen 6"?
All other features like IR Baster, Audio DAC, 2k display, aluminium rails on side, volume and fingerprint/power buttons on the back (like i love it). - Maybe a kevlar back cover and not plastic will be the next thing!
otherwise if the V20 will be worse than V10 i preciate anyway because i buy my V10 a month ago and i dont want to trade my phone so quick, hope they last for years with me...if V20 will be a beast and have a good looking then i will trade my V10 soon!

My wish list
- 821/823 processor
- unlocked bootloader
-a tad nicer screen
- remove the lower black bar at the bottom of the screen with the logo to make the body smaller
- remove the aluminum bars to make it thinner
- slim the bezels
- larger battery 4000mah
-improve the speaker (or add dual like the nexus 6P)
-id rather a 6" screen, same footprint w/out the second screen- useless gimmick imo
- better dac, always on..something akin to the vivo that has dual ess dacs
- improve the buetooth (hopefully aptx hd) and keep the ir blaster but improve the usage width ( i still prefer the blaster on my old note 4).
If they can keep it under 799, that would be awesome too.
Not sure what to so with my v10, once the v20 is out, tmobile only offered me $110 on trade in value, that is some serious depreciation.

Anyone think this new fingerprint on screen is related to V20 ?

I saw an article that speculated just that. I hadn't seen the article about the actual scanner but one of the rumor articles mentioned it.
That would be pretty cool!

Really i hope it comes with 6gb ram and stylus pen..

finally some news about V20:
http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=1215141

http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-v20-renders-features-708851/
Here it is on Android authority
Why does it look so G5ish?
That back is definitely not "rugged" looking.
Volume on the side. I just got used to it on the back.
Modules? At least that means still keeping a removable battery...
I like the idea of the dual back cameras. That was one of my wishes.
I don't think it's as nice looking the V10 but that could be because the leaked renders are white and I just don't like the way white phones look.
I don't see any signs of a new on screen fingerprint reader (same back button) and definitely no sign of a stylus. (I knew it was just a dream)
At least I finally have a new leak to look at!
I'll close with this.... If they ever came up with some sort of keyboard attachment for use with that modular setup... Well... I'd just die. Seriously, I'd fly to Korea to buy the thing.

Just looking at the renders again... Noticing 2 "holes" on the top of the phone! Just like V10. One mic, one IR Blaster?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

yes, right...LG is the only who gives you full specs with this kind of extras, i love the IR Blaster since my first LG Android phone back in 2013. Since then i cant live without IR Blaster and since then i only buy LG's phones.
Thats why i love LG, others like sammy are skiping IR Blaster (and then i laugh a lot) because they rise the prices day after day and give you less and less extras. While LG even in some "low end" phones keep putting the IR Blaster...is amazing!
my fist LG with IR Baster was G2 Mini, then G3, then G Flex2 and now V10...hope someday they improve the Quickremote app to control more stuff, or radiofrequency stuff it will be amazing.
But i know thats not gonna happen, they forget the app since G3 and now is all of the same, no new compatible TV's or Cable Boxe's codes. Let's hope they realize who important is IR Blaster for people who buy LG because of that.

smartphones like Samsungs are currently becoming more and more like Iphones lol. Giving less features at a higher price. I mean, i really love the IR Blast, ( it has become a need for me now,. and i bet some people do love to do pranks with it lol which is fine), also the removable battery. I have to say, the best smartphone Samsung has come up with is the Galaxy s5! i still own it and i do love it, it has everything i need plus some extras in case i my curiosity awakes. But since the s6 and up..... all i see is samsung removing great features, and applying an useless glass design that.... If they havent notice, one can actually use the fingerprint of the owner without being the owner because that glass design retains all fingerprints and so,,,, just use a piece of tape and some dust and buala..... instant fingerprint for robbers. Now.. The LG V20, im not so sure it will look like the render images that has been poping all over the internet now. what tells me that the one who built that "preview model" isnt just someone who loved the g5 design and so it just designed a phone based on what he/she would love to have? i mean, for someone with basic training in softwares such as CAD3d and or blender, that should be an easy cake to bake. so, chances are it is a fake design. I kind of doubt that LG will use the same approach of the prime coating covering the thick metal layer below, they know that is one of the main reason the phone had such a low rating from population all over the world. But if they use that approach again... LG must be stupid lol! Nevertheless, I do expect for the phone to have IR blast, sd card slot, 4/6 GB ram,, SD 820 or better. The new fingerprint that has been rumored so much, maybe waterproof (A BIG MAYBE LOL), and if they are going to use the same approach for modularity, they should integrate a second battery inside the phone so that when you remove the module part, it doesnt turn off for at least 5 minutes, otherwise, that modularity feature seems kind of time consuming. Now, i know some of this things wont be made, but well, Dreaming is good. Oh yeeeeeah and i forgot, FOR GOD SAKE, I HOPE THE BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED AT LEAST FOR TMOBILE OR EUROPEAN Models! lol, it took a while for the g5 to be cracked by the devs and it would be such a pain that it were to happen the same with the v20

men, you are the guy...you say everything i think about this things,, so, because of that i dont write more words! the things you say is just my brain talking.

With the pitiful amount of development of the V10 I'll have to pass on the V20 and go with nexus 7p.

I agree with you, its the only reason I havent upgraded to Note 7, lack of IR, also you have got to try zaza remote, it has codes to many many devices.

I agree. I've always rooted my phones and put custom ROM' s on them. Never felt the need to even root my v10. I've had it since launch.

i am really interested to buy LG v20 but as ive heard that LG has locked the bootloader and its very difficult for the devs to root it? I bought Note 5 and after a month LG v10 was released so not i am waiting for v20 i hope so V20 is a dev friendly phone.

I didnt even bother using stock...
hated almost everything in it.
Im using PA. Even tho its beta and still missing most of the PA goods, its an awesome rom.
However, if you are one of the guys who dont like using a not-so-stable rom or possibily having compatibily issues...yeah...the G3 could ruin your day...

For me, stability is everything (and now don't tell me to get an iPhone). Stock ROM is good enough - yeah it's good enough. Whatever.
Yea stock is great I just get bored with it. Flash whore here. Lol. I like my G2 a lot but not sure what my next phone will be. Thought about the Z1. I tried the Z but battery life wasn't that good.

Do not forget that G2 mini is expected to be launched @ MWC next month. It will have 4,7" screen. And I think probably in august on IFA 2014 there will be launched G3 mini, 5" or 5,2", maybe it'll be G2 clone with G3 iron in it (like 16Mpix camera, 64Gb or 128Gb flash etc)
Will you ditch G2 if G3 Mini will got 128Gb flash storage? THAT is the question

I have my doubts about how much of an upgrade the G3 will be.
My thoughts on the following:
QHD - I seriously think this is more of a gimmick than anything useful in real life. Prior to owning a G2, I had an iPhone 4. As you know, the iPhone 4 has a ppi of 326 and this G2 has a ppi of 424. Difference? I can't see it. Both screens are awesome. I wouldn't be able to live with something that didn't have a retina resolution at normal viewing range.
Processor: LG's own ODIN processor sounds great, but if the launch really is this near, I think they will put a Snapdragon 805 into the phone rather than their own. Snapdragon 805 is sick and improved in comparison with the 800, but most changes are made towards the GPU and RAM read speeds. I like playing on my phone but as long as the processor still is based on a 28 nm architecture, expect faster battery drains and more frequent thermal throttling, assuming this isn't fixed either with hardware (such as passive cooling) or software (less aggressive thermal throttling).
Size: It was mentioned here, 5.2 is stretching it a bit, and 5.5 is probably too much.
Build quality: Here is where the G3 can excel. If they make it a premium smartphone with regards to the build quality, then it's a major update. Don't bother with glossy plastic - EVER - again. I assume they learnt that since they now are selling the G2 LE. If the build quality is premium, expect a premium price.
Meh, maybe I'm just jealous.
Ahh...figured this would happen soon. I'm starting to get tired of the over saturation of Android devices...but I guess that's how they stay in the mobile business. Not every company can afford to be like Apple and release a New phone once a year. In the end, its the existing customers that gets screwed. (More focus and support for newer devices and less for existing).

I'm not sure I really understand why people are so apprehensive about LG putting out a new model. They're already working on an official Kit Kat update for the G2 and we got a good group of devs here who can work out any kinks if need be so....what's the worry here?

I doubt LG will build their phone from metal. It will be plastic, or ceramic in plastic. Sometime they'll even make plastic armed with ceramic, probably. LG own their LG Chem so they won't tickle with metal. Their plastic is durable, sturdy, firm, and nice in feel. Also when it's -25°C the metal cools fast but plastic stays warm to one's hands. We live all over the world you know
If back is too glossy one can even wrap it in carbon or silicon coating with different funny prints

This update is fine 100%, but what happens with the next one? Longer and longer waiting times for updates, and then eventually no official images released...
Especially as phone contracts are getting longer, tying you to the phone for 2 years!! (at least this is the case in the UK!)
As i have said no kk update for lg g2

5.5" is a great size for me. It shouldn't be a mainstream size though and I still consider it phablet size, but if it becomes mainstream that means there are more choices and better/newer hardware for people like me who want bigger screens, to the detriment of those who want smaller ones of course.
They need to remove the back buttons and go back to normal ones. Even after seasoned use, I still find it difficult to press and it takes extra time and prone to error. A button on the side is so much easier and no nonsense. You can feel it easily, don't risk dropping the phone like I always do trying to find the back button, and can be easily pressed by either hand with different fingers. The knock knock feature is poorly implemented and doesn't work half the time.
Like others have mentioned, the build quality needs to be drastically improved. It's still a cheap plastic device, and very slippery and hard to hold, moreso than the Galaxy S4 and many other phones. I had to put a case on mine since it had very little surface area to hold and was very slippery even when fully degreased. Why make it thin if you have to put a case on it anyway? The hyperglaze coating on the Samsungs is much grippier.
Anyway, everyone is starting from scratch in 2014 for phone designs and premium materials so LG G2 needs to do the same. iPhone 6 will have totally new design since its about time and Tim Cook needs to prove himself. Galaxy S5 will have guaranteed new design as the Samsung execs have said, because the S4 underperformed because it looked the same as the S3. Moto X is very premium plastic unibody. HTC of course going back to the metal of the One. And a whole slew of Chinese manufacturers with steel frames or metal covers that put the bland LG G2 plastic design and materials to shame. I can't tell which side is up and which side is down most of the time when using my phone at a glance, since it all looks the same to me, unless I look specifically for the LG logo. Then I have to momentarily remember if its suppose to be on top or on bottom. I can orient the phone instantly in my pocket when I feel the power button on the side, which is another reason why LG needs to go back to regular buttons.
And yes, either put a better OIS on your next camera, or stop using it so aggressively, as I may be going back to Samsung if they have the better camera, and the camera is the main deciding factor for me. I am counting on LG to give Samsung some competition, as honestly even though there are a lot of Android phones, there are very few large name brands in the high end area. I can count them on one hand. Samsung, LG, HTC...and that's it. Motorola is clearly in midrange right now. Sony barely shows up in the US. Ditto to all the other companies and Chinese ones, which don't have the track record LG has and has lower standards for phone quality, even if the phones may look nice from the outside.
Already?
Wow... I'm really shocked they're releasing the g3 already... A little early perhaps? Either way, I think I'll be more than happy with my G2 for quite some time.

i really dont think its worth it unless you want bigger phone....
i think the maximus size i can handle is 5.5 beside that..
here are my thoughts on it:
Pros:
1.Wider angle and perhaps better selfie camera(+1)
2.1GB more ( which i dont belive is really needed because the g4 is already working smooth)(+0.5)
3.finger print sensor(it might have more use on Android 6 but i dont use a password or pattern or anything on my phone so i dont really need it...)(+0.5)
Cons:
1.Same battery size + bigger screen + same resolution + secondry 2 inch display + same chipset = lower battery life (-1)
2. i am finding it really hard to handle with a screen of ~ 5.9 its just too big to be compared with the G4 (-1)
3.this phone is heavy! (192g) ( not going to score it, might not bother other people)
so in the end we got 1+0.5+0.5-1-1 = 0 which means that i am not going to upgrade
there is the material but i will put a case on the phone anyway so... i dont care about it.
and the gorilla glass 3 vs gorilla glass 4 and here again i put a good screen protector so ....
if you are going to use the phone naked than v10 is the winner if not the g4 is because ( you and i already got it)

I do agree with a lot of what you said. I don't care for a finger print scanner, which I'm actually against. I do like the video recording features the 64gb of storage and the materials. I do like that it has better manual noise cancellation with the three mics. The second screen is okay we'll see if it's actually useful or a gimmick. I do like the slightly bigger display, and the weight I kind of like because it gives me a better firm grip in my opinion. My hands are a little strong for the G4. I'll have to go to Tmo and play with it and see when its available in the US.
It sure looks nice, but since it's basically just a "more premium"-version of the same phone/hardware - and the stuff that makes it "more premium" are things i dont care about at all. ie. selfie stuff, fingerprint...
G4 is my first android phone and my first LG, V10 isn't going to change that. LG G5 or G6 perhaps =)
Biggest plus still - G4 is sooo much cheaper. Getting a real flagship for much much less money than any of the competitors, that's what i call 'premium'!

I can hardly recommend this phone to anyone who already has the G4... It' a minor upgrade in some areas
and even a downgrade in others IMO. I guess that's a matter of opinion... The only two things i am hyped about
are manual video controls and sound control (nevermind the 3 mics on V10, 2 mics can get the job done).
I believe that the G4 will get these features in near future (probbably with android MM which is set to
arrive early next year) because V10 uses the same camera sensor as G4.

By the time the G4 gets M the 5 will be coming out. I've been reading about it all morninmg and I think I like it. It's definitely sexy AF from appearance. I am seeing some of the flaws it has like with the second screen. Idk I had the G2, G3, and now the 4. I never got bored with the G2 and 3, but am already losing my appeal with the G4. Don't get me wrong it's better than anything else imo right now, but I am starting to want something different than what everyone else has.

No idea on price of the v10 but they are quoting ip6s+ prices. 64gb and 1 extra for ram isn't going to be cheap.

Just what I thought too!
The LG V10 looks like an awesome phone but I'll stick with my awesome G4 for a while though.
Lol. I was thinking about this newer phone. It looks really nice! But there really isn't any "improvement" over the G4 except for the memory. Otherwise, it's the same screen resolution, technology, camera, UI. I mean, I love my G4! It's probably one of the best phones I've owned! But for me to sell this one, and buy the V10, I would need at LEAST a better camera, or ... HUGE battery... Or... I don't know. A stylus? I want the larger screen. But selling this one, losing some money, and dishing out a premium price for the SAME device except a tiny bit larger is out of the question for me. If they had only put in 4,000 mah I would have found it enough to get! haha.
Edit: Oh I know there are LOTS of improvements like the fingerprint scanner, and secondary screen and 2 selfie cameras.... But these for me a little things that don't make ANY difference to me. Camera, battery, screen size, these are huge deals for me. That's why I say that there wasn't really any REAL improvements FOR ME. But it is a great phone with a lot of good specs and cool ideas! But just not enough for me to sell my G4 and buy the V10. Especially without knowing the European price tag yet! haha.
i want the V10 camera app just for the sake of that video features but i guess we will see a version for the g4 as soon as the v10 is available and someone from xda gets it
I hope manual video ported for G4
I hope we can deactivate the OIS, we can do with ProShot app. But the OIS of the V10 looks way better !
There is an LG V10 forum now if you wish to continue this discussion there
At the very least we have an idea what the G5 coming out next year will look like. It will be more premium looking and feature a replaceable battery. Weight wise, proper case + g4 is 185-190gms anyway.
So they can make premium looking and replaceable battery after all. Who knew

Anyone jump from LG G5 to LG V20

With the release of the LG V20 just around the corner and it's showing earlier this week, is anyone jumping from the G5 to the V20? I really like the new design and having Android Nougat out of the box. Looks like I'm definitely switching once it releases. What are your thoughts?
I don't really feel the need to. Using android devices since eclair - and the G5 really hits the "sweet spot" as far as hardware/performance is concerned. I don't even mind that root hasn't been achieved for the variant I own. There really isn't anything with v20 that to me, warrants upgrading to it. And we will be getting nougat/7 soon enough. I'll probably be perfectly happy riding out the next two years with the G5.
Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
For the rich guys, they'll probably do. I'm just a college student and got rewarded with this phone because of the honors I got. I'm very happy and satisfied with my G5 and will probably use it for the next 1 1/2 years. The V20 is indeed great, the design is a whole lot better but it doesn't make me regret my G5. The G5 is very good, but LG failed to make more modules. Apart from that, the phone without any modules already works great. I just hope LG will bring Nougat fast.
I don't even find reason to update to v20, G5 is fast smooth with great camera, removable battery, micro SD and will get nougat faster than any other oem.
Tell you the truth I don't find any reason to update to any phone.
I don't really see a reason to upgrade unless it's a bigger screen you want. That alone doesn't really warrant an upgrade (for me anyways). the guy above me said what I have as well, the G5 has hit a sweet spot for me. Although root hasn't been achieved yet for my variant, I still am in love with this phone.
V20 is a G5 with 5,7" and a better audio chip.
Just if you need/want big screen. Otherwise they're pretty much the same phone.
V20 is too wide for me to use single handed and disappointed the battery isnt going to be 4000ma
After having lg g3, g2, and nexus5, I truly miss having root....
I think I will be moving on to one of those refurbished note 7s or just take a oneplus 3 since they both have root and great dev community.
Op3 camera is slightly worse and not sdcard but daytime pix and very close to g5 and with 64gb built in that should be ample to all my needs.
Already posted my g5 on CL.
Very good phone but doesn't fit my needs.
I might, have to see some reviews first and actually hold one. I am with T-Mobile, my phone was a note 5 that had some charging issues. I called to exchange for another and the rep suggested using my score upgrade, getting the g5 and keeping my note, which I did but even with its limited charging ability(only charges wirelessly) I still find myself using the note every couple days. The g5 is just a tad too small for my liking. I think I'll go Nexus or v20, depending on real world impressions. The g5 is nice, nice enough that it will make a great upgrade for my wife coming from the g3.
What is everyone's views about the secondary screen, audio recording enhancements, and the camera/video? Just a gimmick or worth it?

I have, I'm just asking if that would be a factor in people deciding to switch or not.. This is just a open end discussion. I'm currently using the G5 and of course one size doesn't fit all but it's just to share people's opinions so other can make a decision to switch if they feel like they want to upgrade or not
The V20 is basically an oversized G5 with better audio quality.
Same performance,display,camera.....
I haven't really looked into the v20 tbh. I [email protected] g5 The two lg phones I've had were great, and I love them. (G3, G5) Both of mine ran/run hot though. Either I have really bad luck or lg needs to look at their thermal controls. I might move to another device after I pay off my g5, but I'll always hang onto it.

Exactly... and is the Audio quailty worth another £500 on top of what your paying for your G5.... I think not.... However, Im in the UK, so we wont even get to see it.. Unless its imported, but will it support the UKs GSM and UTMS bands
I don't. It's too big for me. And for the music I use iBasso DX80.
The reason of why I chose the G5 over all the available smartphones is because of it's "little" 5.3" screen (+hardware + removable battery + IR Blaster + Dual camera). No thank you I'm not interested in a big 5.9" screen .

LG V10 vs LG V20 worth the upgrade?

I was wondering from those who have updated from the v10 if they feel it was worth it? My concern lies with the camera is it really that dissappointing as people have been pointing out? How does it compare to the v10 camera?
I've seen the benchmarks on the performance and its nearly 3 times the speed of the v10 which makes it quite desirable but the camera and the idea of having to start over with a new phone is a bit off putting.
Also there are no 3rd party battery packs available (of course I guess I can get a second factory battery in the meantime)
It's actually pretty silly that I am even on the fence about this since it'll run me 2 more dollars a month via the jump program but I usually prefer to pay off my phones and keep them (maybe I am paranoid but the idea of turning over a phone that has had important data on it is concerning to me).
Please I want to hear your opinions specifically those who came from the v10 but other opinions are welcome as well.
Thanks guys

The camera is nice. Coming from v10. For like 2 months it's fast and I can be sure I'll keep this phone way longer than that.. If not this the pixel but the iPhone look of it and kinda hard to get.. The v20 is dope fast and the camera in pro mode... Damn
Main screen is the same.
Second screen build quality is improved,
overall fluidity of the phone is a significant upgrade.
Battery life is way better.
I think the body dimensions (flatter) makes the hand feel better.
The V10 is probably a dead device software wise.
Camera issues will be solved with an update.
It's not worth 869 after tax imo...at $600 current market rate, easy upgrade
Imo it is the best Lg has done yet. Helps having N as well..
The 3 improvements from the V10 to the V20 for me are battery life, faster OS and no more peeling of the "Dura-Skin" back.
-Regular use and especially stand by time has greatly improved over the V10.
-The processing speed is much more quicker accessing apps and opening/closing programs are buttery smooth.
-With the metal back there is no more irritating peeling from the Dura-Skin back cover that I had with the V10...an easy replacement would have solved that issue, but for only a while until it happened again.
I personally like the V10 for its design and wished that LG had continued it with the improvements that they implemented in the V20.
I got my V 20 two weeks ago. Was very happy with my v10 before. In my opinion they improved the V10 a lot. Faster charge, about 25 to 30% longer battery life, brighter second screen, nicer Software, faster cpu, better loudspeaker. Camera and sound with earspeakers or hifi system was already great before. I would say it is worth the update because it is improved at so many points.
Very much worth the upgrade if you have 2 years already with the v10. But for 1 year of use, the v10 is still enough imho. I don't buy a smartphone every year. hehe
This is my first LG since a KF750 Secret so I can't make a V10 vs V20 comparison.
But I can say this is one of the best all-round phones I've ever owned. And I've owned 40+ over the years..
I doubt you'd be disappointed with any aspect unless maybe you're a serious photographer or audiophile. But then if you are you should buy a dedicated camera or music player lol.
Overall it's a brilliant piece of kit.
I got it a couple of months ago and love it though I didn't really upgrade by choice by V10 got the dreaded bootloop so I jumped to the v20. The processor performance is worth it all by itself in my opinion. Much smoother and faster.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
V20 is definitely worth the upgrade.
It runs much cooler when doing FB live.
V10 was too hot even it had a warning.
V20 was cool.
Eventually V10 was killed by infamous bootloop
Slightly o/t but after mentioning the KF750 earlier I've seen some speculative renders of the upcoming V30 and there's a possibility it could have a similar sliding screen design.
I loved the tactile operation of the KF750.... maybe I should start saving up!
I don't think that "v30" prototype is real it's entirely too thick for today's devices, I think it's a prototype from early 2010s that never made it that someone decided to advertise as the v30. After all there are literally V10 front panels being passed off as the v30.
The other prototype floating around makes more sense; the selfie camera is in the center and it is speculated that one side would hold app shortcuts while the other side would hold media player functions full time. Which would be awesome since I get tired of having to swipe to get access to the music player functions with the screen off.
Edit: here's the link to the patent for the design of the split second screen.
http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-patent-second-display-773447/
I wouldn't mind the slider concept because I love how LG goes different routes than other companies and I'd rather them do something radical than follow other companies. (G6)
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yeah I said it was speculative and only a possibility. But I'd love to see the slider again. They went the "different route" in 2008 and the KF750 really was an innovative phone.
It's funny you think it's entirely too thick; how thin do you think phones can go?
Almost everyone expects a huge battery, larger screen, cameras with specs like a DSLR yet all crammed into a wafer thin package that will withstand being run over by a truck.
There's no compromise or trying to understand physicalities, it's just "I need this, that and the other and if I don't get it I'll cry".
Take a look over at the G6 forum and see some of the expectations and complaints there. The thread "Does the LG G6 have a notification LED" is funny as hell.
My V20 inside a Ringke Onyx case is still really slim and it's well protected too. A couple of millimetres thicker with a larger capacity battery would have suited me fine. But there's the huge advantage of swapping out for a spare in no time at all.
And there's another thing - waterproof / sealed phones. I don't get why that's of any great significance to the majority of users. My Z2 is waterproof but I've never had any real need to put it to the test.
As it is I'm happy with my V20, I know I made a good choice.
Oh I agree, I actually prefer thicker phones (I use a battery pack on my v20). I am a 90s guy so I grew up in a generation where features were the priority over simplicity and aesthetics.
The reason I point this out is that most companies make it a point to make their phones as thin as possible the fact this phone looks thicker doesn't vibe with today's trend as if it was made awhile ago.
I like that LG is taking different routes with their phones (aside from the G6) in the land of copycats. Thing that worries me as a previous slider owner is the reliability of the slder, my old Samsung started getting stuck and hard to move over time. Assuming the reliability and strong construction of the G6 is there I am all for it.
Also agree with waterproofing being ultimately a gimmick, they're not waterproof when they are certified for only 30 minutes under water it's water resistant I wish they'd quit using water proof terminology. Further I wish LG would go the S5 active route if they're going to do water resistance from now on and make it water proof with a removable battery.
I am sorry to the thousands that drop their phones in the toilet but it's not such a frequent situation that removable battery needs to be sacrificed.

There is a new leak with photos like I was saying the design with the camera in the middle and two second screen panels.

Hmm... glass back? If that's a more probable render then it looks like the replaceable battery is out the window.
My impression of those images is that it's going to look a lot like a larger G6; I swapped my G for this V, so not a good move as far as I'm concerned.

Should I get the v20?

I am currently using a sprint LG G4 which unfortunately I can't root because of the revision that came preloaded on the warranty replacement of my original that had some sort of bootloop defect that I guess never got a recall. But that's a story best left for another time. Suffice to say that since getting the replacement I have not been completely happy with the G4 any more and get increasingly frustrated with it. Should I replace it with a V20 (price $552 [24 monthly payments of $23)? I mainly play games like simpsons tapped out, avenger's academy, and a few similar games. The rest is your typical productivity use and web browsing. Thanks for any feedback.
so no interest for music whatsover?
in that case, I would say no, you should choose a different phone, depending on your budget, say a samsung s8 if your budget doesn't have a roof, or a g6 if you like Lg... or anything of the kind.
the v20 is a mean beast, I love it, but if you don't care for its hifi dac capabilities, why bother?? you get a sd820 SoC, which is the same you had on the Lg G5... If gaming and browsing is all you do, pick something else.
s8 if you want a sleek device with top tier features, or g6 which you could probably have for the same 550 usd you're willing to spend on the v20. g6's screen is technically improved (ratio is different, so that's something you need to consider), soc is slightly better and more efficient, looks better, better grip, no camera bump.
otherwise if the lack of b20 isn't an issue... mi6 its performance/price ratio is awesome!
bottom line: I'm into music, a lot, and I enjoy the big screen for netflix 1080p, so that's why I love my v20, it was the only possible choice I had. if you don't care about music, I think you'd be better off with some other device

ehm... just so you know, LG never cared about x.x1 and x.1 updates, so no, 99% we won't see 7.1.2 coming to our phones. but they usually grant 2 major updates, so android O and P should be the ones to keep an eye out for.
The V20 is a great phone and I do not regret picking this phone once the N7 debacle happened. That being said, if music is not a big focus for you, then the world is your oyster. My apprehension for you getting the v20 now is the cost ($23 for 24mos) and the standstill of development. There is not a lot of development for any LG device, but being this is becoming an "older" device, we will start seeing Devs dropping off to work on new projects for new devices. If you want LG, the G6 is a great phone and is $10 less a month on Sprint. Otherwise, the S8 is a hell of a phone for about the same price as the G6.

I agree with this list.. I did a ton of research to find a phone that had all the features I wanted... and this one fit almost every bill. I do wish Battery life was a little better.. but QuickCharge is amazing and i could always buy an extra battery to swap in at any time.
Coming from a g4? Absolutely the phone is a beast compared to the g4. The 808 processor is a piece of crap in terms of both performance and thermal.
I would pick the LG v20 if these features are the most important:
- removable battery
- secondary screen
- high quality audio
- want a highly customizable camera experience (lots of options to get that perfect photo)
Yes the processor isn't the fastest of the ones currently available but unless you have both processors in action in front of you you won't notice the difference between them in day to day operations.
The LG v20 is probably going to be the last of the removable battery phones if the preview of the v30 is any indication.

I should add that root is a must given my experience with the G4. The longer development support of roms for whatever device I get the better. Ideally I would only upgrade to a new device about every 5 years. If they could be upgraded internally like PCs can I could get 7-8 years out of them before needing a complete replacement. Also I can't stand laggy software. Currently my experience with the G4 is that several games I play I have to open the recently used apps thing and click clear all so that it doesn't feel like I'm running them on below minimum system requirements. Sometimes it is so bad it's like I'm running the CPU at 200MHz instead of the 1.8GHz.

Budget is flexible. Especially if I can root and there is a lasting development base for updated roms supporting whatever device I get. If this were the case for me with the G4 I'd not even be considering replacement this soon after purchase. But I've not been able to root the G4 because it came preloaded with a not rootable version.

To date I have had samsung devices. The G4 was my first LG device. The reasoning behind getting it rather than another samsung was it looked like samsung was pulling an apple and doing minor hardware bumps and charging a fortune for them compared to the going price of the previous model. My main objection to getting a G6 is that I'm trading off certain things: removable battery, camera quality, sensors, for only CPU GPU and RAM bumps. All in all if I'm going to upgrade I need the new device to improve upon most everything related to how I use it. I don't take a lot of pictures but enough that a dependable well featured camera be in the device.
