All quick point n shoot shots using superior auto

I think the front camera takes better photos.I very rarely use the phone camera, but its not that bad for close range photos or macros.
here's some video, taken outside, few weeks ago.

camera quality and shutter speed

How's the shutter speed on the camera? My wife loved the iPhone 4G's camera speed but didn't like losing 10 calls a day. We've tried the Captivates but couldn't stand the GPS issues. So.. now we are on the Nexus'. I was looking at the X10 for here because of the 8.1...
Thanks!
depends on ur photo size, its finne to me when the photo size is 2.0

what is this 2.0 you speak of? i'm assuming that's a lower setting?
so if you turn it up to the highest resolution it's not fine?

Hello hallfleming,
I have a X10 and i can say about the pics is great in any resolution, the shutter is quicker, but will be quicker after september update (Android 2.1), one of the most normal reasons that a shutter can take longer its cause if you have many stuff in your SD Card can take a little, but that i think its normal in all the phones,
Any other question about X10i that i can help please ask,
Alexandre
P.S: About the GPS lock its quick as 30 seconds locking (if you are not at a place without windows close).
I get gps fix in max 10seconds when outside, i'm truly amazed by this phones gps!

Btw did you know, our gps is alot more accurated than icrap on high speed? Check youtube for a test on shinkansei train in japan.

Add the app radar on the market for an even quicker gps lock.

honestly the x10s camera is amazing.....the quality of the photos are comparable to some cheaper/older point and shoots
And using the Camera 360 app makes the camera better. You can use very low compression on images, getting a sharp details.
Idk what settings does eveyone use for general pictures i get crap quality pics that are blurry
You need some light you know ?
Disable image stabilization (will just make your pictures soft).
Always try to take pictures with sun in the back.
Use EV -3 or -7
Depending on what you shoot play with the metering modes.
When you don't have enough light, you can enable the stabilization.
And again, take some time to play with the metering modes
Best camera phone ive had. I use it in tandem with fuji finepix 12m pixel. Quality is excellent, and thats comin from a proffesional moaner turning 40 soon...
@Tux - Where is the EV setting?? I've just been rummaging around the settings in the camera app and I can't find anything with a range which covers that...
Main screen on the right hand side.. the +/-

m8 is it possible to get some low light/night images? Can you take some night landscapes, and indoor images just to see night quality of x10. It is really hard to find those. Thanks in advance!
after almost 4000 pics taken with x10, as a camera phone freak, i would say, the camera is pretty fine outside, but crap inside, my favorite settings are "face detection, metering -average, stabillzation OFF, and EV 0 or -0.7

New Firmware Camera Shots Please

Hello all. I had the XZ for around a week and a bit. I returned the device as I found the camera hugely disappointing in comparison to my old XS, which is a great snapper.
Camera quality is a big draw for me so I'm excited to hear that Sony have overhauled the crippling camera algorythms for this latest software update. I'm considering getting another XZ, as the S4 really doesn't interest me and the One's camera is patently sh*te in daylight conditions.
So, help please: Could you post pictures taken by your Z with the new software? I'm really keen to see the improvement and judge for myself.
(And, if anyone who has owned both could tell me, after the update, which is the better camera, the Xz or the XS?)
Well I have both devices and even before the update I felt the Zs camera was much better. The Ss camera held more detail. Yes! But that only gave it an advantage in daylight conditions. In all other conditions, the Z beats it hands down. The amount of noise on the Ss pictures are horrendous! Especially indoors and in low light.
After the update, the Z makes up the ground in detail but a lot of noise is also invited into the picture. Again, that's indoors and under low light.
The Zs camera is, as it's always been much better than the Ss.
Attached is a picture taken after the update, you can check the detail it preserves for yourself.

Great comparisson. Detail seems higher now (thank god!) but noise is also higher, it seems. It's a trade off I can accept.

Noise is higher when using superior auto, but with the normal mode it's pretty good I think.

I didn't use superior auto in any of the pictures I posted, only normal mode with HDR on-off. If I used night mode/scene then the quality would be a lot better though. But I didn't thought of it at that time. You can see night mode pictures in the topic where I posted my pictures.

Grey and dreary day with poor light, I think the quality is pretty decent now, there's no way at all the earlier fw would have picked up the matting on the moorhen nesting raft.

Here is some comparison of latest .253 Xperia Z camera v/s Galaxy Note II v/s iPhone 5.
My View:
1st pic - Exposure control the best in Xperia Z, iPhone 5 second, Note II is completely out, it is over expose.
2nd pic - Note II the best here, 2nd is iPhone 5, lastly Xperia Z.
3rd pic - Xperia Z still much closer to actual color - the best, Note II - not clear and not sharp, iPhone 5 - clear and sharp but too bright than actual.
In overall summary of 3 device camera:
Xperia Z - due to some issue on the superior auto mode which only generate noise now, need to pick scene mode or manual adjust for decent output. Point and shoot will be easier once Sony fix the Superior Mode. Now you still can get a decent in details just more step is required.
Note II - Probably due to too big size or whatever, it is easier get blur image, need some pressure to hold tide for decent output.
iPhone 5 - don't have much fancy setting, but iPhone 5 is the most easier point and shoot, you get 100% sharp in details image.
More camera shoot comparison of Xperia Z v/s iPhone 5. (No Note II this time as the owner not around).
My View:
1st photo - iPhone 5 win here, it capture more details than Xperia Z.
2nd photo - Both quite equal, but I like Xperia Z leaf color + iPhone 5 water pool color.
3rd photo - This one I give winner to Xperia Z, they is big sunlight there, Xperia Z can capture the light and color look alive.
4th photo - Obvious iPhone 5 great control of noise than Xperia Z here. Color wise iPhone 5 still a bit not correct as the light there is yellow spotlight rather than brown.
More Xperia Z .253 ROM - Camera test out:
For me it's simple, the superior auto mode on the Z isn't very good at all. It gets the white balance completely wrong. I think it's the auto setting for white balance, it doesn't seem to work. The camera focuses better when you select the right WB. Taking and posting auto shots of the Z does the camera a great disservice. The Xperia Zs camera right now, simply cannot function well as a point and shooter until Sony fixes the WB in auto mode.
For now, you've got to use normal camera and adjust the settings manually. It's straightforward, only four options, incandescent for low light, florescent for strong artificial lighting, daylight for clear blue skies and cloudy for well, as the name says, when the sunlight is obstructed by clouds.
As far as I'm concerned, fixing the auto WB issue as well as improving the quick focus would have done more to improve the Zs picture quality than the removal of image processing algorithms. For me, it did a lot of work cleaning up the pics. It certainly needed better and more intelligent implementation but that's all. Doesn't need to be canned.

Camera Tip for Better Quality

For those who aren't very happy with the camera on the Moto G, here is some info I found out earlier today.
16:9 mode is only 3MP
4:3 mode is 5MP
So open up your camera and pull the side settings wheel out and turn off wide screen to take the best pictures possible on these phones and to fully utilize the 5MP that we have.
Of course this won't boost the quality an insane amount, but every bit helps.

Yeah, but the quality of taken photos still sucks... I'm verry disappointed of image quality. Previously i'd had galaxy advance and it took 100% better photos with 3x more storage used. And there was also 5MP sensor. But... nobody can have everything.
Only videos made by its camera can bed considered as "not so bad", and only if there is good sunlight when you are going to record something.

Try keeping the HDR mode always on and keeping your hand little steady.
Practice it and you'll be able to take great pics with Moto G's camera.
Also, look into some good Camera apps like :
1. Google Camera (Free) - Touch to Focus, Manual Exposure, HDR , Lens Blur(AWESOME !)
2. Camera Zoom FX (Priced) - A lot more features, including Anti-Banding too !
Happy Moto-Geeing !

I am agree, unluckly camera is the only bad point on this phone. Yes, some can help to do better photos but honestly i don't see big differences.
Define "bad" I personally don't thin it's bad. It does great for a 5mp

Improving front and back camera performance

Hey guys,
Recently got my z2 and I am not entirely pleased with camera performance, especially in low light.
What kind of camera improvements are there? How different is the camera performance on let's say, CM rom?
I've used HTC m7, iPhone 5, galaxy s3 and s5 and now z2 but the cameras never matched up to my iPhone 5.

What settings do you use for low light
---------- Post added at 09:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 PM ----------
I did a fast compare with my daughter's iphone5s and my colleagues iphone 6 and my z2 was fare better in low light
I use auto because I usually don't have time to fiddle around with manual when I need to take a quick picture.
At thread setter would you mind gave us a proof with z2 and iPhone 5 picture comparison. Especially low light?

Auto mod isn't something you should take to compare with other devices.
I agree, Sony could write better camera code but they didn't...
Auto mod is similar to taking pictures with idiot camera.
Find someone who is professional photographer or he/she knows a bit of that topic and ask him/her to shoot few pictures with your device using manual settings...
You'll be surprised how good camera is on Z1/Z2...
As I said, it would be great to have good auto mod and be able to take a picture with a single button pressed but if we don't have that that doesn't mean we have awful camera...
And comparation to iPhone 5 is kinda funny...
I tried iPhone 4 and 5 camera and it cannot be compared to Z2...
Picts are grainy and they aren't even close with colors on Z2 pictures.
Z2 has rich colors and better contrast, you just have to find someone who can show you how to set up camera...
Alright so if I am out at a bar with friends am I supposed go to manual settings and adjust them while everyone waits idk 20-40 seconds? I guess if you get good at it you can change manual settings in less than 10 seconds. If I am on a trip somewhere and I am taking still objects, perhaps I can take my time to adjust the settings.
I wish I still had my iPhone 5 to take comparison pictures in auto modes of each phone. No phone matched the auto picture quality in low light ( speed of shutter, or quality).
I am not bashing z2 camera, and especially since I am in a z2 forum, of course most of the time people will say that z2 is a better phone. It just seems that auto mode on z2 is lacking and Sony could just update the software to remedy this.
You can set your manual mode and open camera from app drawe, that way you'll go to manual mode and your settings.
If you open camera with camera button it'll go straight to auto mode.
As I said...
It would be better to have great auto mode but we don't have it...
If you want to use this device you'll have to accept that.

Its really hard to convince that you're iphone 5 is better than z2 cause my wife is a iphone fanatic since 4s so I can used her iPhone everytime and as I can recall that iphone 5s is way better than 5 in terms of photo quality. I can agree that front of z2 is not good at low light but in terms of back camera, a sample photo with same condition and environment is a good way for photo comparison.

Unfortunately the auto mode on the Sony cameraphones are piss poor! It gets the white balance wrong particularly under natural lighting resulting in washed looking colours.
It tends to over expose everything and cranks up the iso too high to avoid blurring but increasing the luminescent noise in the process.
There's no way around this unfortunately, not right now anyway. You'll have to set the camera up manually.
I'd say use auto white balance under artificial lighting or at night but always choose the daylight setting under natural light.
When you press the two stage shutter down, it locks focus and exposure so you can see if it's over or under exposed and then adjust accordingly.
For ISO, I'd say don't go above 400 even at night. 50 for very good and daylight conditions. 100 to 200 for okay lighting and 400 when shooting under low lighting.
It's a fiddly camera! No escaping that.
Agreed Sony needs to sort out the poor auto mode or scrap it completely. It's hopeless!

You can use 4:3 mode instead of 16:9 and it provides slightly more pixel detail.
Good luck.

The camera is capable of some really nice quality shots. Example below
The camera is good, but the processing/software is not the best, using the app snapspeed you realize there is a lot more potential with the camera.
My biggest problem with the camera is it does not handle sunlight well, it will dim down the picture a sunny day will suddenly look like evening and darker instead... I do not have any solution for that..

but download snapseed it will do well
I was impressed with the sharp focus and good detail but the images were dull. Simply turn up saturation and voila! Nice images. Does great close ups too. I really like being able to trigger it by saying "cheese" also.
What mode did you guys use?
I used HDR 4:3
Anyone have any lowlight shots , thinking of buying this...its kind if a biggie for me lol
As OP said, the camera hardware is pretty good, however the software can be improved.
I came from an iPhone 6 Plus to my HAM7, and I must say I very dearly miss optical stabilization. Color reproduction also leans to the dull side, but as previous posters have mentioned a few seconds' worth of tweaking in Snapseed will fix that problem.
Overall the camera is definitely not bad, and I adore the fact that you can get super close to the subject without losing focus (something I had to buy a macro lens for on my IP6). I just really, really wish it had OIS.
