Bricked My Lenovo Tab 2 A8-50F and How To Root Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

(Requesting delete on my first post)
I was screwing around with my newly rooted Lenovo Tab 2 A8-50F, specifically with SuperSume. Trying to change king roots crappy SuperSU to the official SuperSU, when it wouldn't boot past the logo, so being the idiot i am. I tried hard resetting it. It wouldn't go past a sliver of the progress. Could anyone give me a tutorial on how to fix my device?
It seems like EVERY tablet I get doesn't have a root strategy. I'm hoping this one does. I found strategies online with broken links, etc. But I am wondering if anyone could give me a tutorial, even though there is already some forums. It is running Marshmallow 6.0.1

Any encryption error after boot up?If not how did you know it's trying to hard reset the device.Actually I can hardly understand what you are trying to say. I need full details or logs. And how come your device not booting up after flashing the stock rom via sp flash tool.Providing log would be helpful to understand.

What do you mean "It does not say which settings to have enabled or disabled"?I gave you the right tutorial to flash your device correctly.I didn't say it will enable or disable something. It will just recover your phone from bricked. And by the way you are not explaining much about your device problem.Just tell me what you really want to say.you couldn't flash the device correctly? If you see any error message show me that.

I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
do some research of this topic on your own before you take a look at it. YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you, all, at the same time.
You have been Warned.
Sorry if I am posting so late, but I have successfully rooted the SM-T350 a bunch of times. First of all you will need ODIN and then you will need the TWRP file for SM-T350.
(I chose the Lollipop version of TWRP because it is still compatible with the Marshmallow version of SM-T350 and it also is compatible with 3rd party apps while the Marshmallow version of TWRP is not compatible.)
You will also need SuperSU.
1) Download ODIN (look above for link) and then download TWRP for SM-T350. Also download SuperSU.
2) Before you turn off your Android device, transfer the download SuperSU to your preferred location in the device. Also go to Settings > About Device > Tap on Build Number 7 times until you see the Developer Mode On notification. Then you have to go to Developer Settings and then tick the USB Debugging Mode to on.
3) Open ODIN, plug your device (must be turned off completely) and then press AP in the ODIN application.
4) Locate the .tar5/.tar file of TWRP and select it (open it for ODIN).
5) Go back to your device and then go to Download Mode (Volume Down + Power Button + Home Button).
6) ODIN will say "Device Added!"
7) That's when you press Start in ODIN and then your custom recovery should be installing.
8) When it says finished, unplug your device from the computer and then your device should reboot.
9) After rebooting, turn off your device again and then go to Recovery Mode (Volume Up + Power Button + Home Button)
10) Locate the SuperSU .zip file and flash it through TWRP!
Happy Flashing!

Video TUTORIAL: How to Root your Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Install Clockwork Recovery

Hi Guys,
I made a small video tutorial on how to root the galaxy tab 8.9 (GT-P7310/P7300 ONLY) and how to install clockworkrecovery on it based on some tutorials that I came across here.
The video might be helpful to someone.

Thanks for video, it is clear and I am now more comfortable to root.
However, I have one question. Is it really necessary to install Samsung Kies? I have installed the Kies software but failed to connect to Tab. I called Samsung service center and still cannot resolve the fail connect issue (I had tried connect to different USB ports). From the video, the purpose of the kies is seems to allow to copy the root.zip file to tab. Am I right? Thanks.

As for kies, no it is required so that odin is able to detect the phone, kies installs the required drivers to send out the commands to the device so that the firmware can get flashed, it is mandatory to install it
Hope I helped

Thanks. So we have to ensure Kies work properly (able to connect Tab) in order to successfully root, else there is potential soft brick, right?

Hope this thread isn't abandoned, I rooted by the video, everything went smoothly, went to play store & installed superuser. Installed fine, opened it, seemed normal. Then I figured I'd test it out by installing adfree. The popup box for permission never popped up & I get the force close or report box for superuser. Have not installed cwm recovery yet. Please help, & thank you

Thanks for getting back man. Well I put basically the same post in like 3 threads. So anyway, I ended up basically rerooting it with the tool package from one of the other threads, without using keis. It worked fine, flashed cwm recovery & already on my 3rd rom. First I flashed cm9. But am so used to that on my HTC Evo 4g. Second, flashed the aokp & galaxian soup one. This morning flashed just galaxian soup. Thanks again man.

Tab does not go n recovery mode. Black screen instead
I have read the instructions about rooting en installing CWM carefully. The movies are very clear to me.
But....when I restart the Tab with Power and volume - I get the Box with the little Android symbol and the big Android with Downloading Symbol.
I select with volume - the box with little Android and select this with the volume +
The result is that the Tab shuts off instead of going in recovery mode. What am I doing wrong. I have seen this question in some other topics of this forum but never find a good solution.
I already did a factory reset, but that did not help. I am on ANDROID 3.2
Who is willing to help. Thanks
Does this method work if i upgraded to ics via kies?
I wanted to do this with my gf's p7300 but when i choose the recovery the screen stays blank.
Why is that.?
I haven't done anything else with the tab yet only update samsung to 3.2.

No SD card option
Hi,
I just wanted to root my Galaxy Tab 8.9 but don't have the option of SD card in the Android menu. See attached files with screenshots.
On a high note... I tried to flash a custom ROM on Sunday and kinda softbricked the device. After getting it back today from the store I don't want to screw it up again...
Any ideas what I need to do?
Thank you!

Hi. Thanks for the reply. But how to Flash CWM in the original bootloader when the SD is inaccessible as in the pic? Is there a possibility to flash CWM safely through Odin? Sorry for so many newb questions ; after the softbrick I am overly cautious.

[Q] Stuck on stock recovery

Good morning again.
After my recent post about my cellphone as half-dead, I'm looking for rescue the information on the Internal Storage (We are talking of almost 3.5 GB of personal information). I know what ANY custom recovery can help me with this mission...
But after almost 4 hours trying with no success, I don't know what to do. :crying:
Step 1: Plug USB cable
Step 2: Vol+ Vol- and Power Button
Step 3: Select AP Fastboot
Step 4: On cmd write fastboot flash recovery "name of recovery here with .img"
On this step, I ALWAYS got this:
(bootloader) Variable not supported!
target max-download-size: 30MBStep 5: On cmd write fastboot reboot
Step 6: As fast as you can, press Vol+ for enter to the recovery
Alright. That's the process what everyone's using, right? Well, it isn't working for me, as I got always to the same recovery :s

What can I do? I used even the guide of ATTACK [GUIDE][FAQ][KK] How to Root, Boot Unlock & More
With no success...

You never stated that you couldn't boot to the OS in the OP.
After reading your other post, I believe you have a bad eMMC(?) and your device may be stuck in R/O. If that is the case your phone is non-recoverable. Your only option is to 'try' and restore via RSD or similar - but its unlikely to fix the issue.

You never noted that you wanted to recover things. I'd deal with the phone app force quitting and copy things to your computer via the USB. After you get everything you need, try a full wipe. If you don't want to do a re-download of the firmware, at least verify the hashes. A good tool for this is "Hash My Files." Make sure it matches what the website says it should be. If it doesn't, you will have to redownload.

And 4 or 5 more apps stopped. I nned to say what I wasn't using any of that apps but Smart Launcher Pro and WhatsApp.
So I selected the common Power Button... Power Off... Then I used the common Power Button for Turn On my XT907...
Stuck on the boot animation. It makes the sounds as receiving WhatsApp messages and that, but it's eternally on the boot animation (it isn't a bootloop)
What to do in this case?

This is a promising quote. I've been onto various chinese website and translated the pages, downloaded various TWRPs for the G9287 but flashing it doesn't complete. It doesn't fail but it doesn't pass either. Kebong. If you've managed to root a G9287 please could you go into a bit more detail? I first installed the PhilZ touch recovery and flashed the kernel as you normally would. No issues so far and it is my daily driver.

I found CROM system app which fixed the first stumbling block. Finally I could flash a custom (Philz) recovery via odin. It passed. Brilliant. However I press all the buttons at the same time to get out of bootloader. I can't stop it booting up, but I just power down again then boot into recovery.
At this point it shows a lying down android and says 'system update...'. After a few seconds it says 'no command' then boots into the stock recovery with no apparent change. It still boots up but not changes seen. I've had a search around forums. The issue is mentioned but no solution found.
So close, yet so far!

Okay - so, when you've flashed via odin, hold down all the buttons to reboot but DON'T HOLD THEM FOR TOO LONG! Immediately jump to to home, vol up and power and hold that. It's all about the speed. When I did this it booted straight into Philz. Don't let it reboot. That's the key. After 3 weeks of trying. I'm finally rooted.
For CROM Settings - do an internet search. I found one that said it was for standard S6. It worked fine for S6 Edge+.
Here you go guys CROM Settings
What are you guys using the CROM for? @[email protected]
We use CROM because otherwise cannot flash anything by odin. I just successfully root.
Anybody able to create International Samsung Keyboard in flashable zip.? Samsung Chinese keyboard lack a lot of language and also not applying keyboard according to theme change. I try push SamsungIme and Lib file from G928C dump file and set permission with no luck. I think flashable zip should running fine.

SM-G9287 root via Odin
To root Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ SM-G9287 variant or with G9287ZHU1A0H5 baseband version via Odin, follow these instructions:
****WARNING: This will trip your device's KNOX WARRANTY.****
I am not responsible if during the rooting process you brick your device or make it completely dead.
This is just a guide how to root your device.
1. Download these files to your PC:
> CROM Service4shared.com/mobile/2CaRP69sba/CROM_Service.html> Odin3 v.3.10.74shared.com/rar/74xTnC-Rce/Odin3_v3107.html> Smart Switchsamsung.com/us/smart-switch/assets/downloads/Smart_Switch-PC_4.0.15093_11.exe> G9287 Tar File4shared.com/file/PBnmMkgsba/G9287-Root.html2. Install Smart Switch in to your PC.
3. Transfer CROM Service into your device and install it.
4. Open CROM Service and choose option that unlocks your device.
5. Unzip and run Odin3 to your PC.
6. Make sure your device has a battery life at least 60%.
7. In your device, enable OEM unlock and USB debugging.
8. Turn off your device and reboot to the Recovery Mode (push Volume Down + Home key + Power key buttons for 2-3 seconds).
9. Push Volume Up button to continue.
10. Connect your device to your PC. Odin3 must notice that you have connected your device, so on the tool you must see the “added” message displayed along with the ID:COM section which now should be blue.
11. In Odin3, click "AP" button then search for the tar file you had downloaded.
12. Select "Start" from Odin3 and wait while your device is being updated or rooted.
13. Finally, when the installation procedure is over on Odin3 you will see the “pass” message displayed and your device will automatically reboot.
14. Disconnect your device from your PC.
14. CONGRATULATIONS! Your device is now rooted.

5.1.1 root tips / tutorial?

Hi,
trying to root a phone of a friend, z1 compact.
He has 5.1.1 installed.
Should i wait or root now, because i heard there is a new update for z1compact? Do i need to unlock the bootloader to root it? New version is not stable yet i read and causes bootloops.
What is the easiest way i should root it, step by step?
I am not that experienced with android myself, so any tips are welcome. He just wants his phone rooted to control internet/data access for some apps, and have more control over the apps installed....
Thanks in advance!

Someone here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/root-14-6-0-368-via-kingroot-t3242735 - says they got kingroot method working on 5.1, but not yet able to switch to SuperSU, (https://www.google.com/url?q=http:/...bskDFQ&usg=AFQjCNEbOT7fDsBIA-flXO3m6zakipqSLw). (So i use this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62222794&postcount=37)
So i need to:
1. Somehow downgrade device to stock kitkat (that is 4.4 right?), then root it
2. and then update to 5.1.1 again?
In step 2, would you recommend update to a prerooted version like this one? 14.6.A.1.216 http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...03-14-6-1-216-customized-ce5-central-t3243035

I haven't yet tried .216. Its new as of a couple of days ago. I also haven't yet tried PRFs. I've read a few threads that seem to indicate occasional problems with them. Since I have unlocked bl, I've been able to root the easy way, so I'm not sure what options or limitations there are with that rooting method. From my experience, I would recommend RockZ1 ROM, (.368). It has anything you would want included, and may well update to the new fw anytime soon...
Don't unlock the bootloader many functions will be lost if you are trying to keep the stock rom.

The device is now in Boot Loop after trying to go from the 5.1.1 to 4.4.4 using Sony Mobily Flasher and then trying to install 14.4.A.0.157 ...
What did I do wrong, what can i do now?
Thanks for any help
I just turned phone off, loaded 14.4.A.0.157 with Sony Mobile Flasher, plugged in with volume down key. Then it was flashing and finished. Then unplugged and started.
And now it keeps restarting at startup (when the "waves" appear). That's a bootloop right? I turned it off with the small red button now.
I tried flashing again with same method. And it is still bootlooping after it......
Any expert could help? Or is the phone broken forever now

Just tried with another version. Bootloop aswell. Now i noticed in log, that i should have enabled unknown sources and debugging? But i can't enable it now, because it does not boot.

Trying your method now, with the 2 wipes selected
Edit: with wipe it now boots. thanks! trying to install .108 now, because other is not rootable.
and after rooting kitkat4.4.4 .108, i try to update to a prerooted 5.1.1
I am on a rooted 4.4.4 .108 now.

The msg about unknown sources, etc. comes after the flash bc now your phone is stock, so by default they're not checked. It wouldn't have flashed if they weren't checked in the first place. You'll probably hit some bumps, but don't give up. There's almost always a fix...
On rooted 4.4.4 with Superuser installed. Then trying to load the prerooted 5.1.1 zip.
So rebooted with volume down and installed the prerooted zip file from SD. With CWRM
Everything seems to work, but at the end of flashing i saw some message like:
"set_perm some changes failed"
Then after restart all apps get optimized and i am on 5.1.1.
However, i think i lost root, also no SuperUser installed? And the Superuser was included in the zip prerooted file.
Don't worry, seems to work fine after installing lockeddualrecovery.
How exactly do i install the
xposed-v75-sdk22-arm.zip ?
thanks in advance

Open recovery > select 'install' > choose file. You'll get a long reboot and the whole 'optimizing' thing again.
Yes, after installing xposedv75, it rebooted and loaded addiotional ~+100 apps But it seems to work.
What program would you guys recommend in terms of saving data, restricting internet access of apps (and maybe even ads). And some other for spoofing/restricting requested usage access of certain apps?
(I tried Xprivacy, but it is pretty advanced. It did not seem to block inapp ads or internet access, even when you denied it. Also it only lists apps which are newly installed, not preinstalled ones.
Maybe it is easy but I just didn't understand it yet )

Galaxy Grand Prime LTE (SM-S920L) / Lollipop 5.0.2 / Straight Talk

I just got one of the new Straight Talk Grand Prime variants from Walmart. I can't find ANYTHING on the model (SM-S920L) AT ALL. Anyone else get this model? I'm desperately seeking the stock recovery.tar for this phone as i attempted to flash a CWM recovery without backing up the stock firmware. Needless to say this didn't work and i was left with "recovery is not Seandroid enforcing"., when i attempt to boot into recovery.

I think you're right. I think it has to be the newest version of King Root that doesn't use the kinguser app anymore(version 4.6.2). Oh! And I've submitted the files needed to fashion a custom recovery but haven't heard back yet. I will keep u guys posted.

Finally, something is beginning to Surface on this model. Can you by chance upload the pit file? I bricked while I ventured into the unknown....every flash attempt fails....can't even do smart switched recovery. Hell, this model isn't even in Samsung's database.

Thanks for that! Except now I need a stock rom. I'm going to look into that one. Sounds like a task....I just want to get this puppy to work again.
Grand Prime sm-s920L
I am stuck in recovery mode and I have taken the battery out for a few and stick it back in and still stuck in recovery mode. How can I get out of this?
Same boat, but I am stuck in Odin mode. Made the mistake of trying to flash TWRP on it. Cannot find a the right one to reflash the ROM. I see many for other versions, but not ours.
Their isn't a custom recovery for this particular LTE version, I've seen one individual say.he got it to work with TWRP but he has to be bull****ting...their is the stock rom already posted to the forums tho if you can get it to were your able to flash it...I see that CWM has its own custom recovery builder on their site now I was wondering if that would actual work???

SM-S920L Rooted
Hello, i got my device to take ROOT in about an hour.
Here is the list of programs i used:
~Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones for Windows
~SuperSU apk v2.46
~Superuser apk v3.1.3
~One Click Root for Windows
~Kingo Root for Windows
~KingRoot for Windows
~Root Check apk
step 1. run as administrator: SamsungUSBDriver.exe (Windows)
step 2. Install Superuser.apk v3.1.3 (Android) does not require ROOT
step 3. run as administrator: One Click Root.exe (Windows) ROOT Will Fail
step 4. run as administrator: Kingo Root.exe (Windows) Root Will Fail
Step 5. run as administrator: Kingroot.exe (Windows) Device ROOTED
Step 6. Install SuperSU apk v2.46 (Android) Update Binary Normal
Step 7. Enjoy
That is an unnecessarily convoluted path to rooting this device. KingRoot apk v4.5.0 can literally root this phone is less than 5 minutes and SuperSU-ME Pro can replace KingRoot in a further 5 minutes.
Wonder if there's actually anyone making progress towards obtaining the Rom for this model.
Doubtful. There is zero interest in this variant.
Gahhh nooo, dont say that. Here's hoping an anon comes and saves the day sometime soon.
