Sm-t237p root? - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been searching the forum for a few days now looking for a thread to help me. While I did find people asking the same I didn't find any useful help.
I had my tab rooted with kingroot for a long time but a few days ago I tried installing a recovery so I could flash xposed but something went wrong an it got stuck on the yellow sprint screen so I flashed a stock firmware with Odin to fix the issue. However now it won't root using kingroot. Am I doing something wrong? Does anybody have another idea of how I achieve root/recovery an xposed? It's been a while since I used the tablet so the only thing I can think of is I had it rooted before the 5.1.1 update, I honestly cannot remember. If that's the case does anybody have a downgraded firmware?
The tablet is a sm-t237p running 5.1.1

Update
Update - I was able to downgrade to 4.2.2 an active root thru king root. Now how can I achieve recovery? All the recovery posts are for different models.

Root for the SM-T237P on 4.2.2 is indeed achievable by Kingroot>then SuperSume>then Clear all cache with SystemCleanup.apk>Freeze all System Update Apps. In fact, I actually used an app called Root Cleaner. However, in 5.1.1 the SuperSume method does not work. I am searching the XDA world over for a copy of the PhilZ Recovery. Without it, we are doomed on such a nice tablet. There is no CF-Auto Root or TWRP for this model. And the Cf-330 method is garbage(No offense to those people using it). The SM-T237P updated yesterday to a more secure 5.1.1 dated June 26. Does anyone here know how to get a copy of the PhilZ recovery?

I actually just found somebody who posted a copy of it. It won't let me post links since I'm new but it's under galaxy tab 4 general called "Root for SM-T237P by sk8trix" it's on the last page. I have successfully flashed it an can confirm it's working. Now I'm working on xposed

Retaining root from MF3 to 4.3?

Hey guys, I've done a lot of searching in this forum and found a lot of conflicting answers, so decided to start a fresh thread. I've been on 4.2.2/MF3 for a while now running Safetrap. I'm looking to take the OTA from AT&T and upgrade to 4.3.
I havent seen any root methods for 4.3 yet, but the question is, can I upgrade to 4.3 and retain root if I am running the latest version of SuperSU Pro with survival mode enabled?
A custom recovery with the option for installing ROMs is not needed, especially since I havent been able to do that since I updated to MF3. All I need is to keep root under 4.3 and I'll be more than happy, thanks!

This is my exact question. I just need some concrete answer as to yes or no... but as you said way too many conflicting answers!
YES.
I used "Survival mode" and it worked for me.

Hi so there is a way to update stock to 4.3 and continue using safestrap to run 4.2.2 roms????I would doubt that with what Ive read so far.

I too can confirm this works using Survival Mode from SuperSU Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu.pro&hl=en).
Now, that being said, being a very big noob myself (switching over from heavily tweaked jailbroken iPhone 5), I did this, all was well, I thought I had some issues with some apps and thought 'hmm... maybe I'll just downgrade to MF3 and see if the problem is fixed'. Yeah, attempting to do that with Odin has left me soft-bricked, but for all intents and purposes (that I can tell) it's actually hard-bricked 'cause Kies did nothing, Odin does nothing, if I understand things correctly the only thing that could possibly help is if we had the MD5's available to us for MK2, which, my searching is coming up empty. So, point is according to what I can tell, if you go MK2, there is NO going back to 4.2.2, so use caution.
So just an important safety tip there (unless someone wants to correct my noobness).
Yes. I can confirm that enabling "survival mode" in SuperSU and updating will keep your root; i did this on my pphone coming from MF3.
However, with that being said, i quickly unrooted from there because i had issues with MMS/messaging and phone calls not being recieved, and i did not want to reset my phone. If you run into similar issues as i am not the only one reporting those issues you can so a reset on your data (your root will not be affected, you will be rooted after the reset) or an unroot will work.
happy updating

First with Safestrap you CAN flash Roms. It is just limited to about 10 or so Roms that will work as they need to be 4.2.2 based.
Now with that said for those that ONLY want root on MK2 then someone in the Verizon thread has a WORKING ROOT available for MK2 4.3 firmware here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 and it DOESN'T come with the maliscious code that Kango and VRoot does. This DOES NOT give you recovery but it does give root. So thank the OP in that thread for helping out the community. I did and I HOPE I will never need to use it!!!
Good luck and Happy Rooting...

What Custom Recovery to use w/ Lollipop 5.0.1 Rooted

I rooted my S4 ATT SGH-I337 yesterday with Kingroot while already having Lollipop 5.0.1. I then downloaded Flashify & Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. Restarted my phone to goto recovery and I got a yellow triangle saying this phone has software unauthorized by att.
What Custom Recovery can I use and where can I find the latest version? Will TWRP work and also I've heard of something called Philz?
Oh and does bootloader have anything to do with this because when I rooted my S3 I never even knew or heard of bootloader.
Thanks in Advance

You will not be able to use a custom recovery because your bootloader is locked with no means of unlocking it or downgrading to an unlocked one. You have 2 tools that you can use, currently in lollipop. One is flashfire beta. If you ever purchased mobile Odin, you will be upgraded to the paid version for free. The other is safestrap. Safestrap isn't updated for lollipop but there is a workaround. Since you rooted with Kingroot, I'd suggest getting flashfire beta and then use it to flash the rooted 0C3 zip found in the OP of this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814
The reason is that Kingroot seems shady and installs other crapware. Also, if you try to update to 0C4, it will fail with the Kingroot rooted lollipop. It won't with Muniz' method. Well, at least I know it won't with the stock rooted one. I'm still unsure if the deodexed one will cause the update to fail.
Snapping along on stock rooted 0C4 I337, wishing for some good up to date lollipop ROM's to throw into flashfire
I have Flashfire Pro and SuperSU

My question is what is 0C3? and what is 0C4?
I have the paid version of Flashfire beta
The reason I want a custom recovery is so i can make a backup of my phone and then flash a rom preferably Cyanogen Mod if they have it yet. I hate this touchwiz. But I wanna make a backup like i was able to wish Clockwork mod. Is FlashFire capable of making a complete backup? I see the Backup option but have no clue which to choose and or what it is backing up??????

OC3 is the original Lollipop distribution for the AT&T I337. OC4 is the patch update which is assumed to have corrected the stagefright bug.
I don't have the phone, so I don't use flashfire, but I understand that you can do most everything with it that you can do with CWM or TWRP.
The bootloader is locked, and you will not be able to install a custom recovery. You will also not be able to install a custom kernel, so no AOSP based roms can be installed either. You're stuck with Touchwiz based roms. Period.

No it won't. Only safestrap will work with the nc1 work around. Flashfire is great until you want to flash a rom with an aroma installer, then safestrap is the only option.
Can't upgrade to OC4
Hey, I have updated to Lollipop using Muniz's method back in April. You said that the udate should work with Muniz's installation. It is not working for me. Are you aware of this? I too have a locked bootloader, and am stuck with the Safestrap like many others.
Thanks,

Have you changed anything since the update? If you've unistalled or frozen any apps, or made any other change to the rom, the update will fail. It does work with the deodexed version of the rom also, that's what I updated with.

TWRP for SM-T330nu Galaxy Tab 4 8.0??

Does this exist? I have found a TWRP for a regular T330, but not the T330NU. Basically I am looking for a way to get my 5.1.1 rooted. I know there is a method listed on this forum that involves installing a new kernal that is rootable, but once again, I need a custom recovery to even flash that file. Or do I? Any help would be highly appreciated. I apologize if this has been addressed, but after many Google searches, and even searches on XDA, i was not able to find any definite instructions on how to do this. I would happily downgrade to 4.4.2 Kitkat if thats even possible, but I hit a dead end there also trying to use ODIN to flash the stock 4.4.2 firmware. I made the stupid mistake of upgrading to 5.1.1, and now am suffering do to all the bloatware installed with it. Please direct me to the proper files i need to use to get my device rooted! I'm not worried about knox because it has already been triggered. I just dont understand how or where to get TWRP for my tablet because all the files I found specifically left the T330NU out of its list of compatible devices. I have tried Kingo-Root, KingRoot, and no success. Help, I need ROOT!
A TWRP build for the SM-T330 will also work on the SM-T330NU, so you can use this thread for TWRP. There is also Philz touch, a touch version of CWM which can be found in this thread. All that said however, there is only one way to root the SM-T330NU on 5.1.1, and that is the kernel method you mentioned, for which the thread can be found here

Ok... heres my next question? Do i just simply use ODIN to install the custom recovery, then use the custom recovery to flash that new kernel??? Because I still have the stock recovery on right now, and just need the basic instructions h on how to achieve this. Thanks

Yes I believe so, although the kernel thread should have instructions
Success with Custom recovery and Kernel Flash
Ok i performed the Kernel flash using Philz recovery... and flashed the SuperSU file posted on that thread. Now I ran a program called "Root Checker" from the app store and it says Root not installed... BUT when I run the SuperSU app it says "Super User Enabled" ... So am i rooted or not?? Is there another program i need to use to check root status? or am i done?...
***DUH, my fault... did not realize i needed to grant super user access to the program.... Did that and SUCCESS!!***
Thanks dude... you're very helpful and patient... Wish i had a customer comment card I could fill out about you!

I have the exact same tab and have not found much support for it however I believe I rooted it using old school towel root. And there are some cool things u can do with it but I've been back in kit Kat land all this time.

Some variants of the Tab E do not yet have custom recovery so this root method is supposed to be used for them but will work for other Tab E Variants. I personally use a Tab E Verizon which has no custom recovery yet.

If not would you know of another root for this one? I can't find anything myself...although I'm new to rooting devices lol so I may just be blind.

Have you thought about installing LineageOS. It supports the SM-G900FD officially.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...m-cyanogenmod-14-0-galaxy-s5-android-t3476433
TWRP recovery you can find at their official website page searching for klteduos. The current version 3.1 should be fine.
Then you could just use LineageOS' SU add-on for root (choose the addonsu-arm-signed.zip)
All at your own risk & good luck

ive restored my phone with Odin so many times, i couldnt even begin to estimate what that number is. The reason i say that is because in having had restored so many times, ive never had to run CF Autoroot. Ive only ever flashed the tar.md5 firmware then twrp 3.0.2 and boot into twrp and select reboot. Twrp then asks you if you want to change the system from read only to r/w. After that, i just install whatever ROM i want and never have an issue.
