One more topic about Snapdragon 805 or to Exynos 5433 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
after reading almost every topic, test and comparison between the F and the C models, i still have a couple of question
it seems that the exynos model is slightly supperior to the snapdragon
what about the battery life of the two models on marshmallow ?
i read that they were two cameras, but are there really any differences ?
i am based in france, therefore with the C model i may not be able to use 4G, (i don't really care as my 4g is already turned of on my current phone), but will i see difference regarding gps, or cellular ?

The Exynos 5433 is actually the superior chipset in my personal opinion as it is a 64bit Octocore SOC rather than a Quadcore 32bit SOC that the Snapdragon 805 is. While the Snapdragon 805 may have a higher clock speed rate, it has the tendency to run full throttle when doing anything. Which causes it to overheat pretty easily. The Exynos 5433 has a higher clocked Quadcore SOC for tasks that require allot of processing power and a lower clocked Quadcore SOC, which is used for general everyday use or tasks which require less processing power. Battery life is much better for the Exynos 5433 as it is more energy efficient than the Snapdragon 805. Camera performance is more or less the same with the only difference is that the Exynos 5433 uses Samsung's own inhouse 16MP ISOCELL sensor and the Snapdragon 805 variants use the Sony 16MP Exmor sensor. In terms of cellular connectivity both the N910C and N910F support the LTE/4G bands as they are both international devices. GPS coverage is probably about the same too.

[Q] N9000 or N9005?

Considering the S4 mess with octa core support I'm not sure on what Note3 cpu model to follow... I'm tempted to get the N9000 because of the promised extra power of the cpu, also I'm living in a development country without LTE support. But previous experience with S4 cpu (currently got an I9500) is making the decision not so easy. Any input or opinion is welcomed.

I'm going to buy a Note 3 too and even though there is no LTE support in the country i live in, i'd prefer the reliability and core clock speed of qualcomm snapdragon 800 to the so-called octa core exynos chipset. And plus there are more roms for i9500 which is the LTE version and im thinking that this tradition will continue.

More roms for the i9500?
surely a typo... there are far more roms for i9505 which is the Snapdragon 800 variant.

I much prefer the Snapdragon to the Exynos setup. The Exynos solution consists of two quad-core processors, one with more processing capability and higher power requirements, one with lower (seems kind of like a less efficient version of Tegra 3's five core setup) - Having one more powerful, efficient quad core is a better solution IMO, even if they enable heterogeneous processing across both quad cores in the Exynos setup. Mobile apps will benefit from more single and lightly threaded performance than multi-threaded capability IMO.

BTW, just get a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 32GB LTE (AT&T) (Unlocked) from Negri Elect. $744.50 usd, shipping 10/3.
The only issue is the waiting time to get it.
Apart from the CPU difference there is the HD video one as well.
The N9000 records at 1080p 1920x1080 while N9005 records at 4K 3840 x 2160
I think this proves that the octacore is a indeed more powerful and can handle 4K video recording.

Except it's the S800 version that's able to record 4k video.. N9005 is the Snapdragon 800 version and during IFA Samsung specifically said that 4K recording was only available on the S800 variant. I find it strange that the Exynos version doesn't support it.
so which one is best for tmobile( hspa+ AND lte )? n9005? I hope so, because I'm tired of the missing exynos drivers. Snapdragon800 please

What? That's got to be some corporate cellular pprovider money grubbing monkey business. Thanks for the heads up
I got the 9005 model and it is very stable and smoth.
When I first used it the heat generated on the back was too much. But then it settled down.
Now it heats a bit also. I did not have this experience with my last note 2.
I hope someone who has access to both devices can test for that and let us know..

I just watched review about n9000 vs n9005
is it true that n9000 has more total ram and internal storage compare to n9005?
i have the n9005 and the internal storage is 26.36gb, i guess they tested on a pre-release/ carrier rom. Total ram is 2440mb.

From what I've seen in terms of benchmarks the n9005 is faster. In terms of rom support I guess the S800 version will get more roms and cm.

Now i have n900 , i feel camera not good for take picture for moving things even in sport mode , i will buy another one to my friend and i want to gave him good advice if n9005 will be better and faster , because camera is one of important thing , also he will use it replacing by his tablet that mean hard work so what you think n900 or n9005 , LTE for us not important now Fast and stability is our issue.

I'd love to see various benchmarks/power consumption statistics with different cores on/off.
A-7's 1 on at min clock
A-7's all 4 at max clock
A-7's overclocked/undervolted
4 A-7's and 1 A-15 all at max clock
just 4 A-15's
a single A-15 at min clock
All 8 at max clock
all 8 undervolted/overclocked
These all are necessary to know before considering the N9000.
If this info is not available, the N9005 is the clear choice.
If you see the rom support as of now the n9005 is already winning in those terms.

I've voted for Octa because I no need LTE and 4K video. So Octa is more interesting, modern, perspectiv. I hope it'll be less power consumption with same or better performance as Snap.
My reasons for Octa:
1. 4 powerful + 4 efficient cores which can work simultaneously -> better CPU performance and better battery life
2. More RAM available (2.72 GB vs 2.38 GB)
3. Better sound (Wolfson DAC vs Qualcomm DAC)
Pros of Snap which don't bother me:
1. LTE. We don't have LTE in Ukraine. IMHO, even with new Qualcomm QFE1100 chip LTE will drain more battery than GSM/UMTS. It just improves situation compare to other LTE solutions but GSM/UMTS operation is still superior in this regard.
2. 4K recording. Too large video files. I think 1080p 60fps is more important.
3. Supposedly better GPU performance. I don't play games.
Didn't know some countries or rather telecoms don't have LTE still. It'd be like going back 5 years, can't imagine tethering my tablet on 3G...

Our telecoms are bragging about LTE and we have covered 20% of the country. 5,6 towns have limited lte depends where you are and beside
that they are charging a lot for LTE. Mostly in Europe, Eastern countries doesnt have proper LTE but everyone are using Snap version still...

Where did you find the info on the DAC?
Three Reasons for the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5420:
1) Notably more memory bandwidth 14.9 GB/s vs 12.8 GB/s
2.10 GB/s more memory bandwidth. This is the maximum rate that data can be read from or stored into memory.
2) Considerably higher ram speed 1866 vs 800
1066 higher ram speed. It can support faster memory, which will give quicker system performance.
3) Supports hardware-assisted virtualization Yes vs No
it is easier to obtain better performance when using virtualization if it is hardware-assisted.
Three Reasons for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800:
1) Shorter 10 mm vs 11 mm 1 mm shorter.
2) Explicitly narrower 10 mm vs 12 mm 2 mm narrower.

I know you asked him, but I read somewhere ( easy to google for it) that Samsung signed a long-term deal with Wolfson.
I also read that the DAC on the S800 is integrated so guess which one is getting the Wolfson?
Anyway I am not in a hurry , so I will be playing with the Phone in the showrooms quite a lot before I make any decision,,
As I said before, it's difficult, but not being in a hurry, is a good thing....

Just pointing out that both versions have the same performace, as a 1,9Ghz Octa matches (or beats) a 2.3 Ghz snapdragon.
Same happened with the S4, and now that the Note 3 can use all 8 cores we will see.
And I also believe both versions are identical in size.
I would pick the octa for two simple reasons:
4G in Qatar only started this year and has weird bands that no phone supports, except for custom made 4G keys.
I'm interested in the ability to use all 8 cores at once.
I'm also interested on what people will do to improve on that aspect with kernels, It seems a fun little ride
I would pick the S800 version if I desire down the line, but I'll start with the Octa first.
PS: I have a weird fetish love for exynos for some reason, even knowing the not so open behaviour.

Where would you find the info regarding that 3 GB RAM?
Edit; Got it. According to anandtech exynos 5420 supports up to 1866 MHz.

According to wikipedia (yeah, know it is viewed as not-so-reliable) both the MSM8974AB and Exynos 5420 have 32-bit dual-channel 933 MHz LPDDR3e (14.9 GB/sec). Even if the note version snapdragon doesn't have that AB tag it will be 800 MHz (12.8 GB/s) which is not that far behind.

Lame. Well, I am not in a hurry either, my work offered to buy me any device I wanted. I have an HTC One, tried the SGS4, G Pro, 1020 and the 5S is just to small. The only thing left was the Note 3
No choice. Only Octa will be available. And I want Octa for true 8 core mode.

Don't care much about 4k video. 4G isn't widely available in India yet but should spread in the next couple of years. Still plans will probably be expensive for a while so I can live without it for the next 2-3 years.
Probably the biggest issue for me would be battery life. The S800 seems to do well and battery life on the G2 appears to be superb. Not sure how the Octa matches up here, we will have to wait for reviews.

OT: For Exynos version, GTS won't be shipped out-of-box. They will ship with core-migration.
GTS will be enabled later through some kernel/patch upgrades.
LTE is so overrated. Who's going to download a 1GB file on mobile data anyway. Most of the time, it'll be small packets and you won't even feel the difference in speed between LTE and HSPA+ for those.
Plus, battery blows on LTE. Even if I owned an LTE device, I'd still run it on HSPA+ because of the battery life.
Except for the S4, the Exynos is always better than the Qualcomm. On the S4, Qualcomm was better because it could run native AOSP and Exynos 4 didn't work correctly. However, the Exynos is always the preferred version and even pay premiums for it.

You wont see the 64 bit 8 core Snapdragon 810 untill the Galaxy S6 even though it is already fully working and finished.

And who are you? Most tech sites are already showing the S5 as having an overclocked 2.5ghz Snap800. Not that an 805 is entirely impossible but roadmaps from qualcomm don't put it being out until later summer. Also I'm 100% calling BS on your "S6 specs"

This might be a bit early but I got the sauce on the Galaxy S8. Samsung is planning to change the brand name from Galaxy to Universe so it will be the Universe S8. They hope to have Quantum Computation or xQC down by then. Early estimates show it will have up to a 5000% performance increase. Battery Life still 3 hours of screen time though.

Galaxy S6 rumors are that will feature a flexible display more exactly will be like the Galaxy Note EDGE, with an EDGE side or both EDGE sides which could be difficult to protect from scratches. The EDGE Samsung display is designed to read notifications and information like weather or other small device updates. None of this low graphics performance compared to Qualcomm chipsets is true. You see Samsung is ditching the 810 because Samsung can make something better themselves. The GPU they will use in the 7420 is probably the Mali t760MP8, it has been used in the Note 4 in MP6 config and already shown capable of alot. The MP8 config however already boosts the performance by 33% compared to MP6, if samsung decides it still needs more performance they can increase the clockspeeds. In the Note 4 the MP6 run at 700mhz, if Samsung clocks the MP8 at 800mhz the boost in performance will be huge compared to the Note 4. Thanks to the 14nm process the 7420 is made on both of these upgrades would not let the GPU use much more power than it did in the Note 4.
Then there is an orther point: Gameplay performance. This is where the Qualcomm's adreno's usually perform slower than ARM's Mali GPU's this is because of the better optimization for ARM GPU's.

I was looking forward to the 810 in the s6, but after seeing all the reviews of the lggflex2 and how it throttles under normal use, im glad Samsung ditched qualcomm, and I used to be a qualcomm fanboy. They clearly don't have the heat issues worked out yet, and it's a hardware issue not a software.. No update is going to Just magically solve heat issues like it has. I'm glad they went this route. Should make for a beast

Is there a comparison between Snapdragon 400 and Snapdragon Wear 2100 SOC?

Hi there.
I haven't found any performance and efficiency comparison between the two SOCs used in the 2nd and 3rd generation of smartwatches.
Does anyone know of one? I'm very curious to know if the 25% efficiency gains claimed by Qualcomm is true or not.
