[Q] FIX old LG2, or buy new phone, that is the question?? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
I have a serious predicament with my phone situation. Currently i own an iPhone 5s that im getting rid of, i have an Old LG 2 (VZW Edition unlocked) with a cracked screen that i can fix for $100.
My question is, is it worth it for me to fix the LG G2 for $100..or should i just buy a different flagship device thats newer...say from 2014 or 2015.
Any help would be so appreciated..

A new phone would be better but like you my phone was broken for a a year and I only got it repaired a week go and I must say despite advances in Camera I'm honestly loving this phone it is still super fast and the battery is amazing. People at school are still asking me what phone this is and say the phone looks fresh. I'm currently on CM12 but having trouble to get to CM13 but I seem to be like the only person.

I really can't afford anything too new right now, and i dont do a whole lot of stuff on my phone, just need a good stable device that is still fast for web browsing, email and some light games. And i also remember this phone having amazing battery life, something i dont have with this damn iphone 5s..
I bought the LG G2 in 2014, summer, and i broke it probably a month after i bought it. Do you think the battery may have degraded over time? it took a LONG time for me to get it to 95% charge last night..over 5 hours. Is this normal for the G2?
Thanks for your response!

Okay I kept charging my phone when it was broken but Yes the battery could have degraded cause mine has but I'm still getting good battery life.
I would normally switch to Aeroplane mode when I go to school and my battery would remain on 100% until i put mobile data on and start using the phone if I listen to music at school and play the odd game ( Drift Zone 2 is my fav right now ) It will still last me the whole day until I get home and I will put it on charge at 10 or 11 depending on how heavy I use it when I'm home.
I suggest finding some way to see how the battery is performing and if everything is good then I would replace the screen and use the phone.
It really is still a great phone for what you would want it for. Its fast with all tasks and can still handle games. For me The only downfall is the camera. I think it is outdated but that would only be a problem if you are crazy about taking photos.

Suggest a replacement battery?

Hi, my gf just upgraded to a blackberry and I got the hand me down. So far I really like this phone, I upgraded to WM6.1. But she used this phone for over a year. Its really beat up, but functions fine. The batter though is pretty weak now. After a full charge I can barely use it without the battery going dead. I get maybe 1 hr talk time.
can anyone recommend a good battery, not extended? The ones i've seen look ok, but I'm not sure about them.

this phone is very anti-productive.

I thought this phone was supposed to increase productivity!
that is truly a false statement.
I've been playing with this phone for 24 hours now, and I don't think it'll stop anytime soon.
It takes a while, you will get used to what's on it, configure it to your needs and either:
a) Use it when you need it
b) Continually flash the ROM and reconfigure the device
Enjoy.

thank God I went for option a). anyway... I do agree that it's the coolest piece of pocket gadgetry at the moment. a true next gen phone/pda.
Definitely... I'm regularly getting addicted to my new toys, but the HD2 is by far the one for which the first excitement / loss of time phase has been the longest for me ever. I'm not even sure it's over yet, after 6 weeks
I'm on the other boat. Just bought this 2 wks ago. Rushed the job to get it set up to my preferred standards (I've owned Win CE machines since late 90s...so this was pretty quick).
Now, one ROM upgrade and 4 days of setup later, it's my daily machine and I'm easily used to it. Want to play more on it...but no time due to other responsibilities
BTW -- I didn't know this thing can handle Unreal Tournament!

Dude i think he means that he plays with the leo instead of playing unreal tournament
Mine's T-Mobile USA version, so no ROM flashing for me yet. thank god...
I'd first love to get used to the stock ROM so that I'll appreciate the changes made when I flash.
Having the Data Connections on, drains so much battery, it's ridiculous.
In 1 hour, I've lost 11% battery just by sending 3 text messages, and writing 2 emails.
But when the data connection was off, and 3G off, it seemed to be doing fine.
Auto-disconnect seems to help lots.
But then I just got this yesterday, and only went through 1 charging cycle.
Guess I'll have to condition this battery for a few days before I can evaluate the battery usage.

Figures. Still haven't found a decent FPS for the HD2 yet. Oh well.
As for battery life -- yeah let it run for a few days. From reading the forums, it seems it takes the first charge for the ROM to "settle in" with the battery life...then things improve.
FWIW, I use no data connections, and I get 2 days of use out of my phone.

What more could you want in a phone?

I dunno, must just be me but I completely love this phone.
I'm going to be soon getting either the 4g FFC or the revision 2 FFC. Have not completely decided yet. ( I already have v1 of the FFC and I'm fine with how it acts... I don't often take pictures in the dark, ha.)
With the v1 FFC and bionix 1.3.1 with overstock. The phone is very responsive.. I do get a slight lag in between downloading and installing stages of getting apps, but that's far from the end of the world for me.
Besides that this phone is honestly perfect! I don't know what more I could want from a phone, haha.
I have the exact same setup you do, and the exact same experience. Aside from the GPS hiccups, this is quite possibly the best phone I've used. SAMoled is simply amazing and will keep me from switching phones when all the dual-cores come out. Plus, I know it's a small difference, but 4.3" just seems too big. My buddy has a droid x, and that thing is a monster!
I love my vibrant had it since release....
Waiting for the S2, other than that this phone has been GREAT !!
I love my phone. It really is wonderful.

This is definitely a great phone with tons of possibilities.
A solid gps and a flash for the camera
I never have gps problems, lag, or any of the usual things people complain about. I do not feel it's cheaply made, and it's a perfect size in an otterbox.
The only areas of improvement I can see are an FFC (which can be added), 4G capabilities, camera flash, and tweaking it more. A phone can never be too fast or too good on battery life.
The biggest thing that needs improving is the speed at getting updates and source from Samsung.

The GPS deal , well... that's hit or miss it seems. Mine on the other hand works perfect and has worked fine since I got it right after release.
Flash... well ya knew it didn't have flash when you went to get it, so... yeah.
I love this phone. It's tough , even though it feels light and wimpy. It's super fast, the screen is beautiful and there's so many ROMs and mods to customize it the way you like it that I'm never bored with it.
Had a galaxy s 4G, it was a disappointment but I miss the ffc!

I just wish the GPS would lock in a little quicker and that the battery was a little better.

I never understood the cheap feeling people got from it either, and I had a hd2 that is supposed to be the best build quality in a phone, my vibrant may not be that solid, but hell, its solid....
It's plastic and yea it feels cheap. The HD2 is in another dimension. It does feel cheap, but that's nothing a Body Glove or Otterbox case can't fix trivially.
The battery and GPS is a bigger issue, though... Both of those are terrible. If I take my Vibrant off the charger and never use it, 30% of the time the phone will drain to nothing in 4 hours. I have no clue how it's doing it, why it's doing it. The battery is good (I've tried a brand new Stock Samsung OEM battery replacement) and it still happens. It has the most Volatile Battery Life I've ever experienced in a Mobile Phone, or any mobile device, ever...
A couple months ago I went to Houston for a couple days and forgot to take my Wall Charger... I ended up having to plug my phone into the Samsung HDTV in the room becasue the battery was dying all over the place. I had to stand there tethered to a television just to use my phone. Wanted to talk? Go to the TV. Check your Twitter/Email? You know where to go...
Even on the car charger, the phone would barely charge. I was basically < 50% charge 90% of the time I was there, and even had to turn my phone off for like 3-4 hours when I was getting stuff done to make sure it didn't die on me.
That is something I had never experienced using my Windows Mobile (6.5) devices or Aria, and the HD7 doesn't do this. The Blackberry Bold I tried out for a couple weeks could go 2-3 days with extremely heavy usage on one charge, and charged fast as ****... Even on a Car Charger while being used.
The GPS in the Vibrant was constantly putting me on the wrong road, or on the service road when I was on the other side of the Interstate. At intersections, the GPS would bug out and it would take it upwards of 1-2 minutes to straighten itself out.
Back to the battery. I think the cell radio is killing it. When the phone is on WiFi, it can work about 18-24 hours before it you have to turn it off, because it's not using the cell radio for anything. So, I think a lot of people who say their battery is so good are probably on WiFi most of the time, and likely don't make that many phone calls.
As far as updates are concerned, KA6 was a hail mary and I think Samsung would like to not have this phone even be mentioned in headlines, since those same articles will just remind potential buyers of their other phones just how terrible their Android support/updating actually is. They want to move on. They even bothered to miff up the Software on their WP7 devices. If Samsung touches any software, they will make sure they find a way to miff it up.

One quick remark on what you said regarding Cell drainage vs. Wifi, that's just not true. At least in my case it isn't.
Today for example I took my phone off the charger about 8 a.m and by the time I walked out of uni 8 hours later I had 78% left. All this while making about a total of 70 minutes of calls not to mention a couple of texts.
Now when I reached home I turned on my wifi and started doing my net business, that got me to 15% in less than 4 hours. Without doing any calls/texts in the process.
What more could I want in a phone?
How about no interface or response lag? I'm running Bionix V 1.3.1 with Voodoo lagfix enable, and there's still some lag in the response.
I'd also like the GPS to work every time with accuracy at least matching my 2+ year old G1.

Something probably went wrong because I get better battery life with KitKat, try factory data reset, or maybe you have some errant apps causing wakelocks.
Also disable location services and sync when not necessary as they drain battery,

no my battery life has improved since updating, but it takes foreverrr to charge. Ill charge my phone overnight a solid 6 hours and wake up and itll be hot and not even fully charged! ive tried various outlets, i tried at my friends house too when i spent the night same issue. The phone is definately messed up and i dont even want a replacment becasue i know LG is crap in quality. I had the G2x and had it replaced 3 times! ill never buy another LG phone

Wow, sorry you had such a bad experience, mine charges in about 3-3.5 Hours in reviews too the G2 was said to charge pretty fast. I generally have had nothing but solid stuff from LG even dropped my O2X on pavement like 2-3 times it was fine. LG is bad at updates though.
Whatever phone you do get just don't get a Sony, the same Sony Exmor series cameras in the phones like Galaxy S4, iPhone 4/5/S, G2 take better pictures than the Z1 which shows how bad Sony optimizes software not to mention horrible battery life. In my med school in India in 2007, most of my friends had Sony phones not one lasted 1 year without problems, all now have Samsungs or HTCs.
Constant Reboot - DO a factory Reset
Slow Charging - Use a 5V 2A adaptor. Mine charges in 1 hr from 0

I love my G2 but i hate that i bought the F320L version..can't find a working custom recovery for my device

Opinions from owners

I just upgraded to a LG G5 with BestBuy since it was 1/2 off. This phone isn't bad by any means but I do have 14 days of time to swap the phone out for something else. I want to know what your guys experiences have been like since the phone has been out for a good month now.
Things I really look for in a phone are Battery and Camera.
What's your average battery life? Does the phone get really warm when QI charging? Autofocus and Camera quality? And just any other general things you think are important.
I've had phones from both LG and Samsung (Galaxy S5 and Nexus 5), but this time upgrading I found it a close tie between phones.
Thanks for any info. I appreciate it. Just don't want to get stuck with a phone I dislike for 2 years.
EDIT:
Welp, just noticed that there is an entire forum dedicated to reviews of the phone's features.
Mod's/Admins delete this thread if you need to
Upgraded? Yeah no... I love lg now a days but huge downgrade...
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app
LG is a downgrade to a Samsung phone or tablet, camera is great, battery is one day with the right battery saving apps will run all day, get about 3 hours screen time, doesn't get hot on normal use or charge with Qi.
