Serious WiFI Issues - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hoping someone can help me
My S7 Edge WiFI connection is playing up. My phone is fine on data network but only when connected on WiFi (Have tried other networks too) it has some serious problems like,
- Whatsapp notifications not received unless I switch to data connection or open the app
- Trouble loading internet applications, they just hang randomly but if I switch to data then they load
I first noticed this when I switched over to SuperManROM, however I have since reflashed the previous ROM I was using and still have the same issues. I've tried custom kernels and stock kernels and no difference.
Is it simply a faulty WiFI chip in the S7 Edge or coudl it be something software related? An important point to mention is that for the SuperManROM I had to update the bootloader and Modem, but I did downgrade them again to see if there was any change
Please help

Having the same issues. Tried multiple Wifi networks, same issue. Shows I'm connected to it, but no throughput. Tested the same networks on my laptop with no issues.
I'm using SuperSU.

This happens to me too, but only when I enable power saving mode, could that be your issue?

Well I thought it fixed it, but it doesn't look like it did. Rebooting the phone to see if that helps
Update: even after a reboot no luck.
On cell data no issues. As soon as I connect to Wifi, I lose it.
Update 2: Had a system update available. Tried to install it, and after the phone rebooted it told me the update failed, but the Wifi works okay for the moment. Honestly no clue.

You guys got any VPN profiles installed or anything?

Cant detect any wifi

okay so my phone lost internet connection on me awhile ago and i was like wtf? then i tired to connect to my wifi but it said there was no wifi available, so i restarted my router an modem but still no wifi dected. So i got my labtop and it found+connected to my wifi with no problems, my phone cant even find it. any idea of how to fix this? Im still looking around trying to find a fix. My phone is rooted with fresh rom on it.
Just a thought, are you using WiFi Tether? I was wondering if it maybe didn't set a setting back correctly when you turned it off last. Try rebooting the phone if you haven't already.
ive rebooted it 2 times but it still detects no wifi, also i coulden't get a evdo signal or whatever that is today when i went out to see if my phone worked if that means anything. o and i just now got it to connect to my wifi by manually setting it up but idk if im gonna be able to see my towns local wifi wich i can connect to whenever im close by or my schools. Do you think i should do a restore on the phone or anything like that?
okay, i found a fix for this for me anyways. If this helps anyone go to your wifi settings and look at the networks you have connected to before, delete all of them. Then your phone should start scanning if you still have wifi turned on and there ya go wifi now works. I have no idea if this bug has anything to do with fresh rom.

Doubt it has anything to do with the Rom, just because we don't have Kernel code to modify or mess with that kind of stuff. May just be a bug for the phone in general. I will test it out tommorow when I have a couple of different signals around me.
i emailed Appalachian wireless and asked them for the evdo settings, but the custom support is probably pretty slow since there not a major company, when i find anything out i'll be sure to post it here. but since i don't get signal or have a data plan it dosen't bother me but i was wantin to get the 30mb addon for $10 so i could check my emails and use my instant messengers.

Wi-fi not working when phone goes to sleep

My galaxy S4 connects to any network flawlessly and I can browse the web, etc. but when I press the power button to lock the phone or if the phone goes to sleep by itself, when I unlock the phone, I'm still connected to the wireless network, but I can't browse the web or do anything. I have to disconnect and reconnect for it to do anything (and sometimes it takes 5 mins. to find the network. it says it's not in range 90% of the time). I've set wi-fi to "always on" during sleep and I've also turned wi-fi power saving mode off in the hidden menu but it still doesn't work. Like I said, it doesn't disconnect but the orange down arrow flashes and I can't browse the web, etc. I actually wiped the phone and the problem went away for a few days but cropped back up yesterday which leads me to believe there must be some bug causing it but I have no idea what triggers it. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
Are you running stock rom?

Sounds like what I'm experiencing as well!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303379
Hey guys,
Just noticed something odd this last few days. The statusbar WiFi icon is dimmed; but I'm connected on WiFi just fine. I can browse, and the WiFi settings is showing all is OK. As in, I'm still connected to my SSID.
Anyone experienced this? What's the best way for me to pull logs? I'm a bit of an Android n00b.
The particular SSID is on a 5GHz AC channel (pretty sure it's on AC, or at the very least N), on TKIP+AES. I've read that the S4 had problems with D-Link routers on TKIP+AES, but I've got an ASUS running DD-WRT. I don't have any other problem with the other devices in the house on WiFi.
Running WanamLite ROM, with FauxKernel 3.
Thanks!

I should probably note, sometimes I'd have trouble connecting to the internet as well!

I should clarify,
I'm connected to my router/SSID; but I can't connect to the internet.
But I'm trying out this new solution people have been suggesting.
I created a guest SSID on my router (ASUS RT-AC66U, on ASUS-Merlin firmware), and I pretty much disabled Intranet access on the guest account, and dropped TKIP.
Let's see if the problem will go away.

yep. Locked and after sleep. I'll continue observing the problem, with the new solution I posted. I'll report back as soon as I know more (if the problem persists)

Unfortunately there's no option for me to create a guest SSID on my netgear router...
i believe this was/is a bug for the SIII. a quick search should bring you to a thread i was flipping through earlier for my girlfriends S3. I noticed it the first day I had my S4 but havent seen it happen since.
Go to your Wi-Fi, press the menu button and click advanced settings, there should be a option to "Keep Wi-Fi on during Sleep" if you want it on select always

I've already tried that. Also by default it's set to always on.

The two solutions provided for that bug are to set Wi-Fi to always on during sleep and to turn off the wireless power saving mode in the hidden menu (which can only be accessed by dialing a certain number). Neither of those solutions work.
No go, problem is still very much there for me.
So far I've:
1) Created a guest SSID, with only AES. Problem is still there
2) Loaded a different kernel (albeit a 9505 kernel). Problem is still there.
I'm rooted, running a different kernel and ROM than stock. I'm on Virgin Mobile i337M (Canadian S4). I've unlocked my phone through the Service Menu, I've also enabled my AWS bands, using the QTPS patch. Though I think this is all irrelevant, because theloneranger08 is running an unrooted phone.
So something must've cause the WiFi sleep issue.
EDIT:
What's the best way to go about logging the issue here? I'm a total Logcat newbie. I managed to set it up on my Mac; but not sure what sort of logging I should be doing. Cheers!

Yeah I can't seem to get it fixed. I actually decided to call AT&T and they are sending me a new phone along with the necessary supplies to send my current one back. Hopefully it's a hardware issue and the new phone is fine. Although the fact that it worked for two weeks with no problems and wiping it got rid of the problem for a couple days leads me to believe it must be some bug in the software. Granted, I haven't come across hardly anyone (besides the people on this thread) with this issue so hopefully it is hardware related. I'll be so ticked if the new phone does the same thing...
I got a new phone and I didn't have any issues for a few days but now it's back. Anyone have any ideas?

Kinda impossible for two phones to have the same exact issue. Which lead me to believe this is a software bug.
Can you verify if you have "Check for Internet service" enabled, on Advance WiFi settings (Settings > WiFi > (tap menu) > Advance).
I restored my phone a few days ago, wiped it clean. I decided not to use this feature (it's off by default; but I had it on when I first encountered this issue), and I have yet to see the problem we had. I spoke to a friend who's a network engineer, it could be due to timeouts to the cell towers, whilst checking internet connection periodically, etc. etc.

No it's turned off. I've tried everything but I just can't find a fix. Is there anyway to somehow log the phone and see what runs when I put the phone to sleep? Is it possible that it's an app doing it?

If you're still having this issue, can you check into your Accounts setting? See if there's any sync error.
I had no problem for a few weeks after restoring my phone to factory setting. Then two days ago, the issue re-appear. The last thing I did was adding a new Google account (secondary account, for work). That's when the WiFi problem started appearing again. Then I noticed the sync issue on the newly added account, I had to uncheck certain options, and check them back again. Since then, the issue hasn't re-appear *crossing my fingers*
Way back in the day, I remember that WiFi indicators would look different if you have WiFi with internet access, but not connected to Google accounts (or have issues).
I know this is different than what we initially talked about; but I guess we're eliminating possibilities.

Wifi Not Working Correctly?

I tried searching and I have not found a solution yet. I'm running SHOstock-I with ktoonz kernel on android 4.4.2.
For some reason, my Wifi randomly disconnects from any currently connected wifi network. The first thing I try to do is to connect back to the wifi network (any available network), but it simply tries and says "Connection Failed". Next, I try to disable the wifi connectivity alltogether, but after I tap the toggle button it becomes "greyed-out" and I can't toggle it.. it just hangs. If I go back a step and then select wifi again, then I can try to disable it but the same thing just happens again.
If I reboot, then wifi works again.
Oddly enough, if I enable/disable teathering, then wifi starts to work again.
It seems I can't run Wifi for more than an hour without this issue happening. It seems to have just started doing this out of the blue. I suspect a full wipe would solve the issue but I'd rather not do that unless I have to. It usually takes me a while to get things back to normal after a wipe.
Any ideas?
Some solved the problem by unInstalling the Smart Wifi utility (for ATT and maybe other carriers too).

Thanks, but I don't have that app installed. I am positive this is not a router issue as well.
Everytime I wipe cache/delvik then the issue doesn't occur for a few days, which I think is odd. I also tried different kernels and the problem persisted.
Does anyone know if it's possible to confirm if this is a hardware issue? I doubt it...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It is a good idea to turn off any 'connection optimizer' or 'wifi optimizer' application or setting, in short anything that decides what connection is selected based on available connections should be turned off. The most probable reason for the problem is badly programmed software.

Wifi not connecting automatically to saved networks

I have been experiencing an issue where wifi is not auto connecting to saved networks after being on 4g data. Refreshing the Wifi screen does not bring any results until I switch the wifi off and on several times, and then the relevant networks are shown and DO auto connect. I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader, xposed. This is not new to gaining root, but happened about 10 days after. Has anyone experienced this issue and what did you do to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.
Yeah its happening to me. It doesn't connect and when I go to wifi settings, it looks like it's refreshing but no networks show up. I have to turn it off then back on and it auto connects. I'm fully stock, unrooted. I think a software update can fix that.

Got same issue with A2017G.
How can a phone be released with such defects??? Anybody at ZTE even used the phone 2 or 3 day in a row and didn't noticed that?
I'm having the same problem, I can't get onto the wifi at my work, or at home.

wifi connected No internet

This is the problem that i am getting.. Wifi connected No internet... please some one help me.. is it modem related problem ?
tell us something more.
did you trie different wifi? maybe router has some specific settings
I tried different routers... but having same problem... whenever i connect wifi...its working fine..but after some time net gone...and i get this message in wifi settings...wifi connected No internet... i tried different roms but stil having same problem
I have a similar issue
S7 connects to WiFi but can not use any co sections through apps
The browser works though.
It only happens on my bt home hub WiFi .
Bt says there is no fault on the line (other devices connect fine)
Samsung says the phone is fine
The issue is seemingly the s7 and Google have an issue with ipv6
But at start when i bought my s7 edge..i had no such problem... wil there be any solution
I had this problem too after nougat update but at the end it was a router configuration problem.
So whats the router configuration...kindly share some steps
What if i go back to marshmallow ? Wil it be safe ?
This is also a problem I have been getting in the last week or so. I have had the phone over a year. Not sure if it could be a recent update that is causing this?
Mine started 3 weeks ago. I didn't update anything on the phone or router.
Will it be good to go back to android 6.0? Will it be safe?
Check your time on your phone. Sounds dumb but if it's not set to the right time, your Internet won't load.
also smart switch could be the problem.
I've had an issue a few times, when wifi turned off and was trying to connect again, but smart switch foocked up wifi.
try disabling all weird features in wifi settings
time is set and no smart switch problem also.... what should i do now
I also have a Pixel C and I get this issue on that as well so it's not just s7 edge related.
Oh thats strange that even Pixel phone also has this problem... what wil be the solution
I get the notification from Google about making your connection secure. I used to accept it. Now when I forget the connection and get offered it again I refuse. This seems to be working for me.
I am also experiencing this problem after the nougat update and after the March security update. The WiFi notification gets the exclamation point and I have to cycle connection. I have changed nothing and I have verified nothing has changed in my settings. No other brands of phone or tablet in the house are experiencing this problem.

Did you get the notification from Google about securing your Wifi network? If you accepted then forget the network, rejoin and the reject the offer in the future. It worked for me.

Nope, never got that notification. Tried forgetting and then reconnecting, no notification, and still WiFi sporadically says no internet when connected.
