TWRP won't remove encryption - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello everyone,
I am running 3.0.2-2 on the SM-G935FD and for whatever reason TWRP won't wipe the encryption, thus I cant read the internal SD card. I am getting the " /data mount" error.
I have done the advanced wipe and cleared everything except the external SD, am I using the wrong TWRP? any ideas?

You must wipe data! Wipe it all internal storage!

I had same issue on G935F. Try advanced and format data in twrp. The option where you have to type yes. If not then flash stock recovery, factory reset and boot into download and flash twrp before booting into system to flash dm-verity zip.

...have you tried cursing/threatening/random acts of violence on inanimate objects? no? well BEFORE you do, advance wipe, wipe system/data/etc, reboot, or there are ways to reformat as ExFat with a PC too.

Can't factory reset

Hey guys,
Trying to wipe my phone and running into an issue. When I go through the process my internal SD card unmounts and the phone doesn't wipe. When I click it again I get a message saying "SD Card unmounted." Any idea fellas?
Any ideas guys? This is kind of urgent!
if you have a unlocked bootloader flash a fruitcake. Make sure to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition & dalvik cache first in CWM recovery.
haven't modified the phone
Glinting settings and storage, you should be able to mount it in there. Try again afterwards.

Can't do anything with TWRP. Cannot mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.

Hey, so I rooted my Galaxy S7 edge exynos, and everything was great. However, when I boot into recovery, TWRP can't do anything. It can't backup, install images, nothing. It says my memory is 0mb, and if I try to backup it says "cannot mount /data and unable to find crypto footer". I can restart my phone to system and everything works perfectly. Is there a way to fix this? I'm using latest version of TWRP (3.0.2)
Thanks guys!

FORMAT DATA, it's explicitly stated in the instructions. You must format data to wipe encryption.

Is there no way around this at all? It's really a hassle having to reset my phone every time.
Is there at least a way to install xposed without formatting?
Thanks!

You only do this once, use flashfire or titanium backup to backup your stuff.
did you flash this after TWRP?
"If you only want a bootable system partition or writable data in TWRP:
Download dm-verity and force encryption disabler.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP."

same here !:<
Same problem a few days ago. Caused by secure startup or encrypt device obviously lol. Only fix for read/write on data/internal storage is factory reset in stock recovery. Unfortunately this was the only fix for my fussy G935F.
TWRP couldn't mount data to wipe anyway I tried and the only way to flash was through selecting extSD.
i dont have escription enabled though ._.

I find a solution, just go in wipe and format data , it will removes encryption on internal storage. if not works try a factory reset in stock recovery them try again, S7 is encrypted out of the box and Twrp can't read or mount data. Works for me in G935F.
how long does it take to format? i chose exfat and it's taking ages... am i doing something wrong?

i unlocked a nexus 5 and got the same problem, formatted data, all seems good now
is there a way to save my data? my phone is oneplusone
if you use twrp to flash xposed, it'll still work. But your data is still encrypted.
Should I do anything else after the Formating data (install TWRP again, root again...)?
I remember that I did format data in my last phone and it completely deleted everything including OS, so now im little afraid.
Currently I can't do nothing in TWRP, not wipe and not backup...

Thanks, it worked! Too bad that the only way to get this is by loosing all the data .
Hi all,
I followed instruction on installing TWRP and also have root. I also installed the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip file, but I still can't access internal SD. It says 0mb. Also after installing the zip it similar stated 'unable to mount'.
When I try to format data it can't mount it.
am i missing a step??
ideas?
Thanks in advance...
PS: not sure if this is relevant, but it keep coming up with the same flash screen message: "keep system read only?"
I tick the box says don't display this, and swipe to allow modifications, but get this message every time.

You have to format the data after you installed twrp. And then you can flash supersu and no verity opt thingie.
Thanks for the reply... It wont let me format it. 'says can not mount'
I'm having the same issue here. Although I can root, I cannot wipe data, so no way to install a custom ROM

Flashed TWRP and a custom rom; cannot access internal storage... please help

Guys I am in need of help. I did not fully understand step 10 in TWRP installation guide and just skipped originally. I did notice I could not wipe anything but thought I would be fine so I just dirty flashed custom ROM assuming wipe would work afterwards and I can clean install after.
I am obviously stuck now with 0MB internal storage shown along with no access to phone since it says upon boot that verification has failed and that I need to reset my phone.
Now, I do have important photos/datas which are invaluable and thus do not want to lose... I did hear other guys restored their nandroid backup and were fine.
My question is, is there any way for me to access and back up my internal data somehow? I did hear something like flashing a stock firmware via Odin without the cache inside. Could someone confirm that this would work please? Would really appreciate a response. Thanks guys.
I did try this:
If you only want a bootable system partition or writable data in TWRP:
Download dm-verity and force encryption disabler.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.
But TWRP would not allow me to flash because it said it could not mount storage. I presume this is because I exited TWRP...
Please, any guidance would be much appreciated.
Do a wipe, system, data/ dalvic , and cache . Do NOT check internal storage and SD card...reflash your rom

Thanks for the reply but I cannot do that since the phone does not let me wipe from TWRP due to the encryption issues I believe.

Could this help:
"Only if you want internal storage or data to work in TWRP:
Go to [Wipe] -> [Format Data] (not advanced wipe) -> type "yes".
WARNING: This will wipe your internal storage, disable encryption, and factory reset your phone!

Thanks man. I am aware of this but have not done so which is my problem haha. Does anyone know of this set PIN before flashing stock rom on ODIN please? I obviously cannot since I cannot boot to system but I do not want to make assumptions like before, go ahead and cause myself more stress...
Hold up, have you flashed SuperSU? That should be the only thing stopping you from being able to boot up. After flashing TWRP and a custom rom you need to install SuperSU to be able to boot.
Either try to flash SuperSU using TWRP built in ADB or buy an external sd card and flash from there. You don't need to disable encryption and in fact, that zip you tried to use actually wipes your internal storage anyway so don't try it again.

Unmounted data (twrp not ecryption it i guess :()

i tried to flash but i guess screwed up and twrp not mounting data there is nothing i can do right now its not mounting for encrypted device i guess.. i tried to flash chineese twrp it was mounted then flashed stock recovery and there is i got Encryption Unsuccessfull! Message.. what should i do ?
Go to Wipe in TWRP, and Format Data. It will wipe everything but you'll then have access again in TWRP.

I got the same error. If you go to wipe and use the format data button everything will get wiped except TWRP but since the memory on the phone is properly formatted you can connect your phone to a computer, open the phone memory like an external hard drive and just copy and paste the ROM zip and your root app zip and then flash them in TWRP. It should definitely work.

No you want to go to format and ask you to type yes. Do this. Then flash the ROM you want. Fulmics, stock, etc.
Ok doing that
Fulmics installed correctly but it still asks me to enter a password in twrp

Do the following:
1. Put Fulmics rom or any other rom on the SD Card and put it in your phone.
2. Format your system, don't wipe because your phone needs to be configured again.
3. Install TWRP on your phone with ADB.
4. Install the Fulmics rom.
5. Now it should be all okay.
TWRP is working properly now I can now make backups with TWRP, thanks
