Do NOT start a thread when your questions have already been answered!
As a matter of fact, read this too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=5278 (Specifically #1)
I'll be reporting this thread to be locked now. Good luck.
PS
I'm going to give you some advice. Do NOT root. You have NOTHING to gain from it (besides perhaps your volume mod.)
But your phone will run hot, slow and might even lock up. You might not even be able to restore it.
I will NOT help you any further because you fail to read.
Just leave it alone. It works and that's all you need. Don't even try to continue because you will mess something up sooner or later because you cannot find information for yourself. All it'll take is one member to give you wrong information or for you to miss a step or misread/misunderstand something and your phone is done. Garbage. You don't want that. So I say again, leave it alone. Please and thank you.

Relax buddy I made this so that us noobs can get help without messing up others post relax all I'm looking for is little and no aditude I get that from my wife lol
Thanks for answer those questions
I have rooted with no issue before pg1 had no issues fixed everything by reading here and asking few questions I went back to stock because I couldn't get my private photos and videos to work and I got update and came here for help that's all and only reason I quote you is because you seem smart and fast to respond.
Thanks

I am very relaxed. You did not make this for "noobs" because there are already threads and guides in place to help. I have never spoonfed another member with the same answers to the same questions more than you before. It's redundant and really not necessary to post your question more than once. Which you do. Then instead of reading the answers, you post a new thread with the same questions that I have already answered. You're simply wasting my time. Then you tell me to relax. What? I'm not giving you any kind of attitude, I'm giving you aggravation because you're constantly breaking forum rules, exhausting resources, taking the forum for granted, wasting the time of our members and then have the gulls to tell us to relax. However, if I did have any kind of attitude against you, I'm certain that anyone would blame me. I hope that I don't see another thread posting a question from you again unless it is something really original. Please search and read before posting from no one. Please and thank you.

Come on guys...
I am on PG1 and will be rooting again today. I will let you know how it is and also with Viper4Android installed.
I was on PD8 and he's right, it was overheating until I changed the CPU speeds and governor. My battery would drop so fast I could sit there and watch it go down. Lots of people are saying the new update gives them 9 hours screen time, so we'll see if its any better rooted.

The root method achieved so far is not good. It uses a ENG boot and causes way more issues for the phone than its worth. Unless you are a heavy modder and a experienced rooter its really not for the every day users. My advice is to NOT ROOT and wait for a better true root method to surface. You will just run into heat issues battery issues and a whole bunch of lost functionality.

Bare With Me....

I am coming from a T-Mobile HTC HD2, and I have Unlocked the phone, installed several ROM's and Android Build's, but I am getting bored, so I got a Vibrant now, Do I need to Unlock the Vibrant and Root the phone in order to install a Custom ROM? If so, if you could provide me the link to a program to Root the phone, and Unlock the phone, would be much appreciated, and I can go from there, thank you. Please do not flame this, obviously I know what I am talking about.
Read the bible and all questions will be answered. Basically do not be lazy and do a search its all here the info you need.
Cheers.
that sounds sexual

Anybody notice there are two of these threads?
You do realize you posted the same thread 15 minutes before this one. By the way you are getting flamed in that other thread for not reading sticky threads. They are sticky for a reason. The one in general and the bible have pretty much everything you might want.

doesn't matter
It doesn't matter whether you are a noob or know what u talkin....
Anytime you create a new thread in the Dev section(twice!!) with such a basic question....you are asking for it....search man search!!
Mods please move....
You should be searching, but ignore the a**holes, just in the future make sure you check out all stickies and abuse the search function ( and NEVER double post, because then even I wont feel bad for you)...otherwise you are welcoming the douchebags to come out from under their rocks and prey on fresh meat
to answer your questions, you do not have to "unlock" the phone. Just root the phone in order to obtain Superuser and Busybox. Install "OCLF" from the market, this is the easiest and fastest way to root your device. And from there just read up on ROMs/Mods for yourself to see what you want. Most ROM threads have specific installation instructions, good luck.
This phone is so easy to mod, its silly. However, sometimes it can be TOO easy, in the sense where if someone gets caught up in the simplicity and starts rushing, you may miss a small detail that could cause major setbacks. Its happened to the best of us, it doesnt mean you dont know what youre doing, it justs means your enot reading carefully. So no matter how simple something may seem/sound, always make you read carefully so as to prevent issues that will cause you to post/panic like crazy.

Loki Kernel

So I'm seeing a lot of posts talking about this Loki kernel. I haven't yet rooted or done anything else to my S4, but I'm looking to do so tonight. What do I need to know about this kernel and rooting the S4 in general before I start? I don't wanna mess anything up... Thanks!

Read the entire thread.
Then go to each AT&T S4 subforums and read all of the Stickied (pinned) threads.
Make sure to read EVERYTHING.
If you do it right, you will not be doing anything to your phone for at least a few more days.
If you have any questions, it means you didn't take the time to read...but if you do, use the forums search function to find the answers that already exist.
If you do all of this, you will be fine and won't be a burden to others. Good luck.
This is a Q&A thread, questions should be welcomed, not a "burden." I'm simply asking for help, and if you didn't want to help, you didn't need to respond. I'm simply used to Samsung devices with unlocked bootloaders and am looking for some guidance. Thanks for your assistance.

If you are not willing to take the "help" you are offered, why bother. I showed you exactly where you need to look and what you need to do to learn about your device. That is EXACTLY what you asked about. No one said you are a burden. What I clearly said is if you are not willing to do what you need to do to learn about your device you could very well become one...just like anyone else not willing to learn.
Is this help not good enough for you?

No, it helped, I guess I shouldn't have said "if you're not willing to help. " I guess I just get frustrated because I'm not a developer and every time I come on here and try to ask a question I feel like I'm always being met with an annoyed response from devs. Sorry I took it out on you. No problem. I realize the information (threads) I gave you contain a lot of information that takes time to get through, but it really is the only way. I've seen it happen dozens of times (or more) when people get too excited about customizing their devices and end up in a mess. It happens to people that have been flashing ROMs a long time too. I promise, if you take a little time to read the threads I linked that you will have a lot better experience with your phone. It will also help if you end up having questions down the line. People are a lot more responsive if they can tell that you (or anyone) has taken the time to get on the right track...but just need a little information to help them to the next level. The "search" function helps a lot, but it sometimes it does lack.
I hope you have a great experience with your phone.

I bet 90% (or more) of all "Help me!" type posts can be resolved with those few threads. Maybe another 5% need to be directed to another thread or two, and only the last 5% or so actually require more information than what has already been posted. If people would follow the XDA rules, search, and read what is easily available, most of them wouldn't have problems in the first place...much less need to make posts about them time after time. This forum has evolved nicely and people have taken their time to put together guides, solve problems, and create helpful posts. It is a slap in the face of those people when others don't take the time to read the information they made available. I see it all of the time, people saying, "but this is Q&A, I should be allowed to ask questions yadayadayada...). For some reason, to them, Q&A means I don't need to search, read, or learn, I can just ask a question that has been asked 20 times already (usually still on the first page) and people must flock to me with easy answers on silver platters! Of course, that is assuming they even put the question in the Q&A forum to start with. For some reason, they think they are above the rules or they are so special the rules don't apply to them. Q&A (according to XDA) exists to help AFTER someone has already searched and read on their own...not as a substitute for doing so. And saying, "but I searched", when it is obvious that no searching or very little searching was done only makes them a liar as well.
At most, people should only need to be directed to this information (existing threads). If they choose to ignore this help or if they think they are too important to take the time needed to read and learn...too bad. Fortunately, most accept the help and take advantage of the information, others, well I guess they just need to sit around, all butt-hurt, with their bricks.
And to those that get butt-hurt...No, I'm not a Mod and I'm not affiliated with XDA, I just follow the rules that I agreed to when I signed up...just like everyone else is supposed to. DO you?
...and this isn't necessarily directed at the OP, I just happened to say it in this thread.
This is not unique to XDA. People on all forums ask before trying to find the answer. It doesn't matter how much good info is posted, most users want to be spoon fed instead of trying to learn on their own.
Even with power of Google, we see people post " how do I ....." On forums first, when the same query on google will give instant answers.
I can't explain it, but we are all witness to it.

A lot of members like Axman have invested many hours in writing great "noob" threads. Very well done and easy to understand. What I never get is why folks invest a lot of money in this phone, and others, and don't want to spend time educating themselves on how to root it and flash roms.

I started those guides thinking that everyone would be talking about flashing roms, whats cool, whats not, and so on, made them so anyone new could even understand, I must have forgotten that people just want to get a phone and start rooting and such, without reading because his buddy said it was cool to root and flash roms, even told him, here go to this site and get roms, and flash them. Then the process starts, a continuous posts of I can't , and it won't questions.
What gets me, you know they are not searching, because the post right above theirs has their problem right in the thread title. Saw one of those yesterday somewhere.
Ka dumb a$s, duh!

This! Also I got very intimidated by all the people screaming at me. I did a bunch of research before I asked the question and was still confused hence the question I'm not an xda idiot but the s4 was already very big in modding when I joined whereas the infuse and vivid had just started to get cwm and root when I got them so I grew with the romers I apologize for looking so nooby since reading the first post I now have a auto Loki cwm and root access and am running the Google edition ROM thank you all for the suggestions and links

Glad you got it--
Don't feel bad sometimes we need to vent--nothing personal
I came here in early May from the One S and close to 3.5 years of flashing HTC devices with the advantage of unlocked bootloaders thru fastboot. But, still felt like a noob here--still do--
Odin/Kies/Loki were all new. Esp loki. I have spent hundreds of hours reading probably a couple thousand posts. Still learning. It does take a lot of effort to figure this out for some of us--like me.
But, a good investment as one needs to not only know how but why--to not lose a pricey phone--
Welcome to the S4--Unbelievable Phone--:good:

[Q] Recovery on MF3

EDIT: Problem Resolved
Hello, after reading for hours, I now realize that I was wrong. Not totally new to rooting, etc. but this one caught me off guard. I updated to the latest MF3 OTA from ATT.
My problem is I tried to install TWRP from the goo manager, and now the recovery doesn't work on the phone at all. For the longest time it just kept rebooting the phone endlessly, and I could make it get into download mode.
I managed to get the phone to boot up by flashing the stock rom with odin in the bootloader section (did this by accident trying to recover the phone), and then went into download mode, and clicked cancel. It booted up fine.
If I try to enter recovery at all, it goes back into the endless boot cycle till I do some playing around with odin.
How to do I get the normal recovery working again? I would like to factory reset this and sell it for a GPE phone.
Thank you for your time.
Is there a downloadable mf3 ROM out there I can use to flash it with Odin?

Not to be a stickler but it's the same person.
And not to be disrespectful, but the galaxyroot website says installing a custom recovery is fine but it must be rooted first - if not rooted go here - you go here and it shows the mf3 root method. Never said much else about it. I rarely use XDA to ask for information. The post always turns into a flame war with people who are extremely disrespectful. To me this forum is extremely mixed up with post, and other times the information isn't clear. I agree totally that I made the mistake, but I admit to my failure and now I'm trying to learn from it. I'll never understand why the people on this forum and I mean especially this forum love to bash others.

The reason people are annoyed is because people are constantly coming here with little knowledge, ignoring all the useful guides stickied at the top of the forums to try and help these exact same people, then rushing into an advanced procedure without a proper idea of what they're doing. Then they make a brand new thread to ask a question/beg for help, when it's already been answered 100 times, rather than searching for the answer first.
It's not something to get upset about because it's going to keep happening no matter what...but it is laughably annoying.
Anyways, I don't know what website galaxyroot is, but you need to get your info/guides/procedures/research right here at XDA...not at some random website with crappy information. That was your first mistake.

Absolutely!
And I might add...
Asking questions (regardless of how many times they have already been asked) is NOT learning. Learning IS searching and reading available information, no matter how much time it takes, until a person has complete knowledge about their device and what it is they are going to be doing to it. It is called "being responsible for your own actions":. People that keep asking the same questions over and over again are NOT trying to learn anything. They are just trying to get someone else that usually did take the time necessary to learn about their phone to get them out of a situation that they got themselves into while putting a minimum of their own effort into it. Just so they can go back and screw something up again.
People who ask valid questions AFTER they have searched, read, and learned are generally handled in a very friendly manner because they have displayed a willingness to actually learn about what they are doing. I've already said this in several other posts but it comes down to people that do things correctly versus people that are lazy, have a sense of entitlement, or feel as if their time is more valuable than others...it's just that simple.

The funny thing is: often the people who are accused of being mean/rude/unfriendly are people who spend an exceptional amount of time, each and every day, helping people in these forums! It's FREE tech support. You get "mean" when you deserve it and you are not entitled to complain about it, in my opinion.
sense of entitlement

I agree with that. In my case it was a few hours of researching with no clear answer to me.
The website is galaxys4root.com and it is referenced in this forum quite a bit.

The funny thing is: often the people who are accused of being mean/rude/unfriendly are people who spend an exceptional amount of time, each and every day, helping people in these forums! It's FREE tech support. You get "mean" when you deserve it and you are not entitled to complain about it, in my opinion.

He had like 7 post...I'm not thinking so.
Nevertheless people will ask everyday a question that has already been answered. If somebody is going to call me stupid along with other names I don't want their help, I'll eventually figure it out myself. I was just hoping to significantly speed up the process by asking a question I didn't see asked yet on the forum. (Or if it was I didn't see it and yes I did look)

Simple as opening up your web browser and googling it. All you have to do is sort through the posts and READ through it.

I'm not quite understanding you. Instead of "checking another forum out to see if we have any solutions as of yet", why didn't you take the time to read what has been posted about it in this forum (as suggested)? People (here) even gave you a screenshot and instructions on how to find the EXACT links that would have helped. Was that not enough? I think you are being difficult just to be difficult...or do you really think that you shouldn't have to take the time to research and learn about something even when the links are handed to you? Maybe you should take a little of YOUR time to read and learn a little bit instead of expecting people to take THEIR time to answer your questions that have already been answered multiple times elsewhere, especially when people are nice enough to show you the way. What is your definition of "help"?
You don't have to answer any of this if you don't want to, I actually rather you didn't.

I'm not even going to fight with you. I'd suggest sticking on topic. Anyways I did thank those that helped so don't complain at me for not reading something you know about.
Nevertheless my recovery is working again now. Something that XDA doesn't have posted on it (at least for the mf3). Maybe I could be more of a nerd and explain things in more detail like I should have. I have been pretty sick these last few weeks. I'm a disabled veteran and have quite a lot of problems. You don't freaking know me. Don't tell me what I'm trying to be. Just because I'm not as familiar with this forum like you doesn't mean I didn't freaking try.
I am TRUELY sorry for the inconvenience I have put you through. I won't ask anymore questions here again. I'll go where I should have in the first place.
P.S. - read ALL my post before you decide to play God and tell me what I am. A post I referee to earlier was deleted so it kinda makes me look like a you know what.
Please don't try to bash me here anymore as I really never meant to offend anyone here. Its just really depressing to me that just because you found something and I didn't I'm the idiot.

Wow - 1 question and 2 pages of beating this poor guy senseless.
No disrespect but you guys/gals with 1000+ posts, try to remember when you where single digit posts.
Some people dont "haunt" this forum day and night and know "common" issues/symptoms and their fixes.
I see lots of threads with what appear to be valid questions and just about all say "this has been covered - do some research".
I hope I never go to a Doctor and say "I dont feel well, my nose is running and feel itchy" and they respond "this has been covered - do some research".
Again no disrespect but WOW!!!!

If you find a doctor who provides around the clock support for free, let me know!
If that doctor posts the answers to most of your ailments right on the door when you walk in with a big READ THIS FIRST sign...and you walk right past it and ask him a question that's on the door, do you think that might get annoying?
Ok, I'm tired of this analogy!

Rooting Android Nougat

Can anyone confirm or deny the engineering bootloader works or not on Nougat beta?
Move to QA sorry mod..
The current eng kernel does not work as it is for 6.0 (marshmallow) not 7.0 (nougat) Sorry!

I'm sorry but you've been told many times that it doesn't work so I don't understand why you had to make a new topic to get the same answer.

Have you tried to flash it? I started the thread to discuss options, not just the first question. I really want to hear from someone who REALLY tried to flash the engineering bootloader.

I tried it and it will not work as @CyanideHD already said. The phone will just bootloop because the rooted kernel is for 6.0 and not 7.
Since it is a beta, it wouldn't surprise me if there is another engineering kernel available, just not leaked yet. I wonder how the original was found.

So, you really don't want correct answers by knowledgeable folks that know without trying sumpin stupid, that firmware needs a matching kernel,
Now can you tell us what you REALLY want to hear?
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez,

This is uncalled for. You could have just shut your mouth too. What value did YOU add?
How is me asking a legitimate question, that I could not find the answer for grounds for me not to procreate and call me a fool. Troll on douchebag.
And I mentioned the engineering bootloader, you really think I dont know about kernels? I was compiling them since redhat 2.0, all the way back before X.
I didnt ask about the kernel, but thanks. These kids need to stop wetting themselves, like we in the S7Verizon thread have so much to talk about, you couldnt stand a new thread.
Thank You MisterXTC and CyanideHD, I do value your advice.
You're quite welcome

Many people told you and explained to you in the Nougat beta threads that it will not work yet you continued to ask when you didn't get the answer you wanted. You were no longer asking a legitimate question when you ignored the answers that you didn't want to hear and kept asking anyway. There might not be much to talk about on these boards but when you ask the same question over and over even after hearing the answer it really is just unnecessary. No one was trolling you, no one was lying to you and no one was hiding any information from you.
It sincerely boggles my mind that you ignored everyone who said it wouldn't work in the other threads. I wish there was a way to achieve root on Nougat but currently there is not and until someone far more capable develops a way, there will not be one. Continuing to ask about the engineering kernel will not help, neither will ignoring other people who are more knowledgeable than us on the subject.
You have been told multiple times that it will not work and that there is no root method for Nougat. Getting upset and offensive towards others will not help you by any means so please wait patiently as the rest of us are.
Also, Nougat is currently in closed beta. Until it is released there is almost 0 chance there will be a root for it. This thread would be more useful after it has released fully.
I wonder if the same vulnerability is in the nougat beta kernel, if so I wonder if that could be used for root on nougat. I doubt it is still available but worth a shot for those already on the beta.
I didn't get a response in the other thread so I started my own, quit being a baby about it.
Mod shut it down, the gods have spoken, not a place for questions. I forgot.

To be fair, you got several responses in the nougat thread. And if you didn't see them, its because you didn't read...
There is nothing wrong with asking questions, and its encouraged once you've attempted a brief search to make sure the question hasn't already been asked and answered. However, to ask a question several times in a thread, have that question answered by several people then start a new thread asking that SAME question, is looked down upon and for good reason. Just because you didn't get the answer you wanted to hear doesn't mean your question wasn't answered...
You've been around longer than I have, figured you'd know this.
Tell me kind sir, why would I want to hear what I want to hear? So I can get the worst possible outcome? I was asking TO hear an answer. I apologize that I didn't see the response, or maybe didn't validate someone who said 'wont work' with a post count of 5.
Thread closed as the OP has his answer and the thread has devolved into flaming.
Just a quick reminder:
5. Create a thread or post a message only once.
As a large forum, we don't need unnecessary clutter. You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer, revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time so it might take a while before you receive an answer.
