Rooting Nexus 6p - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone! I am so confused on how to root my Nexus 6p.
I have been wanting to root my phone for a while as I want the IOS emojis, but found out that Emoji Switcher only works with a rooted phone.
I have two questions.
1. Is it possible to add an IOS emoji zip file instead of rooting my device to get the emojis on the standard google keyboard?
2. If not, how do I root my device? I have looked at youtube videos on how to, but I'm not sure if the links in the description are updated or usable for the version I am on (MTC19X)
Thank you very much

No idea about the iOS emojis but Heisenberg's guide has all of the info you need for rooting.

Changing system emoji

Does anyone know how to change the type of emoji at the system level? Touchwiz has come a long way and I really am okay with it now but Samsung's version of the emojis is still horrendous. I would prefer to change it to the style of the iPhone. I have searched and cannot find a way to change it without root. I know you can use different keyboards and messengers that offer different styles but I am wanting to change the emoji on the system level. Does anyone know of a possible way to do this without root?
I would love to be able to do this too. I hate the samsung emoji so much.
Please..... Samsung emojis are nowhere close to iPhone or even stock Android emojis... they are terrible.
Here Here
where can i get newest samsung emojis ttf font ?
There is no wa to change emojis without root. Emojis files are located in the system partition. You can't access or edit it without root.
You still can use an other SMS app with included emojis if u want other emojis for SMS but I think it's the only way
If you want to change your emojis at a system level, u have to root
If I root my phone, to change the emoji's and then I unroot it, is it going to work or I will have problems?
Rooting you will probably trip Knox and void warranty

I changed the samsung keyboard to google's gboard on my galaxy s8 and hoped the emoticons that are with the keyboard would change too to the default stock android version or something but to my shock they did not!
I now have a trauma of these appaling emoticons. (!)
I do not want to root so if there is another way.. I would thank the universe and the person that knows the solution on my bare knees and cry.
Hello there, i have the same question. I would like to add an emoji to my keyboard and i also have root, but don't know how to do it.
Using oreo here.
Where are the emojis located on the phone ?
Thanks.

Thanks for your answer but i am looking for something else. I want to add a custom emoji that is not available on these keyboards. I added the emoji in the attachments and i want to add it to my samsung s8 keyboard. How can i do that ?
While exploring the Samsung keyboard apk i didn't find a place to copy my emoji to. P.S : i have root
So i am looking for the location of the emojis but can't find them. The only thing i found is in Samsung Keyboard/ assets/ xt9emoticon but inside are 3 .msdb files which i cannot open and neither am i sure that these are the locations of the emojis. Can someone point me where these emojis are stored in the keyboard.apk ?
Thanks
I downloaded the above mentioned app and it changed the emojis which, i think, simplifies my work. I downloaded the IOS emojis from the "Emoji changer" app and installed them on my s8 . Now i only have to find out where the downloaded emojis are stored and in what .format so i can add my .gif
Although i don't know if the .gifs are accepted as emojis

First read and understand this Guide then follow the section appropriate for what you want to do. Once Rooted install AdAway. For Pixel stuff go to the Full Pixel Mod thread and flash version compatible with 7.1.2

If you want to keep Android Pay/Any SafetyNet stuff, you could use Magisk to root.

Apps and OS suggestions?

Hi, and thanx for the chance to introduce myself. My name is Tom and I've only just realized that anyone can make modifications to their Android phone. I found XDA when I googled a search for how to jailbreak my Verizon Moto Z Play, I take it from reading posts that unlocking it is not possible yet. (Hopefully soon).
For now I am using an XT1607 Moto G4 Play which I bought with the SIM unlocked and I've also Unlocked the bootloader. I'm looking forward to developing my own apps,
but for now I'm wondering what modifications would be recommended for the Moto G4? I'm not familiar with the various firmware and software modifications and though I've found some apps to add, I would welcome suggestions for those as well.
Thanx, and Semper Fi to any of my USMC brothers

After unlocking your device, one of the first things you'd want to do is install a Custom Recovery like TWRP or CMD. I use TWRP. You can search four your device and download the correct file here: https://twrp.me/Devices/
This will allow you to create backups of your system, install Custom Roms (modified OS), give you root access and install modified apps, to name some things.
So once you installed a custom recovery, you might want to try a cusrom rom. They offer some great extra features. Just make sure to create a full backup (also called "nandroid") in TWRP before, just in case something goes wrong.
One of the most popular, stable and fluid ones is LineageOS: https://download.lineageos.org . It hasn't got so many extra features but works great!
An other good rom for what I've heared is InvictaOS. It's a bit more customizable than lineage and works great as well.
An other good thing to do is root your phone. You can achieve this by installing magisk's zip it TWRP, and then installing the Magisk Manager .apk. You can download both from the magisk thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
This will work on your stock rom as well as on custom roms.
Install Adaway to remove popup add like videos in games: https://adaway.org (root needed for this)
An other cool mod is this modified youtube app to remove all adds from videos and allow to play with the screen off or the app in the background: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-iytbp-injected-youtube-background-t3560900
All the information you need is in the first, second and third post.
I'd probably recomend the third post method, using the magisk module. It's the easiest one, you just have to download the file for you CPU architecture (arm for moto g4) and install it in the magisk manager, in the modules section pressing the "+" icon (Root also needed for this).
You can find guides to all of this on youtube, and always read all the instructions before trying anything.
Many of your questions will have most likely already been asked, so also search the threads before asking something.
Good luck!

Update OS for SM T230NU

I'm not really sure where to post this inquiry as I am very new to this. (Feel free to move it to appropriate spot.)
I need to get this device updated to at least lollipop or above as none of my steaming apps (Xfinity, Hulu, etc.) will run on KitKat.
I printed out the article in this forum called Guide [Root]ing the [T230NU] for DUMMIES (Galaxy Tab 4 7.0) and will follow the instructions to ROOT the device. Before I do, I have the following questions:
-What is the most stable ROM that will get me to lollipop or above?
-Where do I obtain this ROM (download link)?
-Once rooted, what is the next step to install this ROM?
Thank you for your assistance (and patience) with this issue. The device still works fine, I just need a higher OS. I'd hate to just throw it out because Samsung decided it wasn't worth it to develop an update.
Thanks,
Dom
