There's always a chance you can flash a ROM zip with FlashFire. It works on the VK810 G Pad 8.3, and to backup and restore, but for some reason it won't flash SuperSU.zip even when it's part of the ROM zip, or work with its EverRoot option at least on Jellybean or KitKat. Of course until you get root, nothing can happen, and if you have a locked bootloader and no vulnerability is discovered, you won't be able to have permanent root.

Damn I'm disappointed there's no root for this lol. Jus purchased and was looking forward to freeing up space.

A new update is coming.
Check the source code here:http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list...LL&search=v521
There used to be v10b source code and it disappeared two days ago. Today there is source code for a newer version v10c: LGV521WG_Marshmallow_Android_V521WG_v10c.
So it means we should be able to root our tablet once anyone pulls the new firmware v10c.
Update: I just checked system update, and there is an update with size of 452.5 MB, which would be automatically downloaded between 11 pm and 4 am.
Vola....

T-Mobile is probably updating it to add a Device Unlock app as a system app. Could you put the update on Dropbox or something if you downloaded it? I don't see it on the website at the moment.
Edit: Seeing it now using link in main thread URL.

can anyone pm link to system image for this tablet ,one of the develpoers from lg g4 forum would debloat that image for us and create the rom but he needs system image .thank you in advance.

massive props to him. its been a long time since ive seen that kind of attitude on xda. in what seems like forever ago i ran a team of devs who went from unloved device to unloved device trying to kick start the community as best we could and help them. teach em how to make kernels, how to do recoveries and roms just so that the knowledge was passed on as well as allowing there to be more people ready to help out other devices as time went on.
sadly this is lost these days.

he dosent even own the tablet but he will work on the rom for us .i will be testing his build for him on monday so hopefully he will post it by monday if everything works out with the build.

[4.4 ROOT] [BOUNTY] New Root Method Exploit or Full Bootloader Unlock Droid Maxx

So I took the KitKat 4.4 update on my Maxx. Needless to say, I now have dissolved my primary means of internet connectivity. I have scoured the forums and I found a lot of people asking about how to root when you are already running 4.4.
I tried downgrading the firmware, using RSD Lite, but I got errors (as you cannot downgrade). Since I am now stuck with 4.4 I figured I'd make the best of it.
Not sure about the procedures on the forum, as this is my first post, but I want to have a bounty here.
I got $20.00 on the bounty for whoever roots 4.4. I know there are others asking about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=49493942
MODS: As I am new to this forum, forgive me if I'm overstepping my boundaries here.
Be the first person to create or find a method to achieve the following:
Exploiting a fully stock Droid Maxx 4.4 build to get root. Make a post in this thread with the following:
Proving it works with appropriate photos and/or screenshots
Providing full step-by-step instructions for which anyone else can follow
Wait for at least one member to follow the same method and confirm it works the same on their fully stock device with 4.4 KitKat build
Claim your bounty via PM from donator(s)
Payment will be processed between each member and the bounty collector via PM on an individual basis
I'll update this page daily as I currently only have temporary internet access

False! There was a bootloader unlock for previous droid. But they closed that security hole in one of their updates.
So it is possible.
I participate in that thread for Moto X bootloader update.
BTW: update me here to $25 for bootloader update (to match my two cents in Moto X bootloader thread)

Bounty) root + twrp.

I figured we needed a bounty thread to kick start development. Lets keep it clean and on topic. This device is killer for the price point and has an unlockable bootloader. We desire root and twrp for mods and custom roms which im positive will come in time.
Edit: i no longer have this device so im withdrawing my donation. Will keep the thread open for other members. I see root is here so i encourage the members to donate to the appropriate devs.

Should create a root thread in the general section. With procedure and all the extras you posted in the other ”any root" thread. Just to get all the info together for someone to make a custom recovery and next ROMs hopefully.
Give some props to @frankee207 for finding the original root script also.

Will probably be a 2 or 3 person split if you consider 1 person found the info used to get root, another took that info and changed it to fit our device and a 3rd mystery person will provide TWRP (eventually).

It is perma-root. Until you unroot via SuperSU, that is. Or factory reset.
It works. Adb booted the boot.img from bootloader like the windows commands in the root.bat from linux. No problems at all.
First complete guide with working TWRP and root on Idol 3 4.7" (6039Y) was written by me. See post #172 in [Q] Any root ability on this phone yet? topic.
In the matter of Idol 3 5.5" (6045Y) i think frankee207 deserved reward for finding TCL 3S M3G rooting method (see post). In TCL3S M3G root-20150524.exe, that he find, there is a boot.img with CF-Auto-Root from Chainfire and rec.bat file. DallasCZ only rewrited this .bat in english (in original it's chineese) and was write a guide. Without TCL3S M3G root-20150524.exe founded by frankee207 all of this would be impossible.

Agreed. Now that @Unjustified Dev compiled a working twrp for the 5.5" idol and we have root, unlocked bootloader and twrp now. Bounty should be spread around amongst them all. Have everything for development now. Nice.

My idol is the wife's so I'm not going to to be flashing anything as of yet as it is running great out of box. I would like to see this phone on CM12.1 (or other 5.1 ROM) to see how 5.1 and the heating and battery do.
I'm still good to drop $20....

[WIP] Note Series Developer Edition Coversion

All,
Due to the recent accidental leak of Samsung eMMC vendor commands allowing write to protected eMMC areas, we are now able to write CID values on production devices.
@beaups has written an awesome tool called 'SamsungCID' (found here: https://github.com/beaups/SamsungCID). This tool is based off the research of @ryanbg . This makes the process all the simpler for developers to understand/port functionality!
I have built this tool from his source, and used it on a multitude of devices that use a Samsung eMMC. It works without flaw on the Moto G (Second Generation), Galaxy S5 (VZW/ATT, though, ATT doesn't have a Developer Edition that I am aware of, though, it still could work, I need a tester, PM me, or Telegram me @npjohnson), and many, many other devices form a variety of manufacturers..
How does this apply to you?
The Note 4 uses a Samsung eMMC, and has a Developer Edition. This means that it is vulnerable to this exploit.
How can you help this progress?
You can't.
Currently, the CID writes 'successfully', and persists across reboots, but one of the registers isn't fully flushed. I am working on a module that will flush the register and allow for the Developer Edition Aboot to be flashed via ODIN.
Now, you may ask "How could we load modules, I thought that was impossible?", the short answer is, it is. At least, without what we found (or, rather, stumbled across).
We have the device kicking into Developer Edition using the CID write, and a hardware modification, which we stumbled across (demo: here, credits to @PaulPizz for spending late nights testing the various things I would throw at him, and having the balls to do some dangerous stuff that I personally believed would permanently brick his device). This method is volatile, dangerous, and quite honestly, shouldn't work. When I am confidently able to prove how it works, I will release details on my blog: here. Until then (shouldn't be more than a month, but as always, this is a free time project, and could be put on hold for real life, as I am busy with Cyber Security competitions).
What will most likely be the course of action once I release:
- Change CID to a provided Developer Edition CID
- Use hardware mod to flash/boot the custom kernel I have build to enable module loading (or maybe I'll build the function into the kernel itself, haven't decided yet)
- Either load the module, or call the function (if the latter, I'll write a binary to do so)
- Revert the hardware mod
- Flash Developer Edition Aboot via ODIN
This should be bootloader version agnostic, but, as always, beware updates, and, I'd stay away from any incoming MM updates on all locked carrier variants if you want to retain the ability to use this. If Samsung can update the eMMC firmware using those vendor commands, they can sure as heck change them the same way. Then the ability to do this goes away entirely.
You may be asking, "Can I donate to progress?"
Well. Sort of. Beaups asked that all donations go to the Make a Wish Foundation, or @ryanbg (as he is getting hitched , may you forever 'make cooking' Ryan! Haha.).
If you'd like to donate to me, know that it is not for the CID write, but instead, the work and research put into getting this all worked out for this device. I will also be dividing any donations sent to me with my tester, as he has spent a fair bit of time on this, as have I.
@npjohnson I have two devices s4 and note 4 both from Verizon, I'm in Brazil right now so I don't know if it makes a difference but I'm able to use temporary root in my note 4 so if you want any help give me a shot, I'm not a developer but engineer so any you need from me to get this rooted count me
OMG Could it be?

I need a few thing to make this work:
- A few testers with Production devices, and root (temp-root should work fine) -- I will contact these people individually, do not ask here to test.
- One person with a Developer Edition that has root (need an aboot dump, and them to run one command).
If any of you know of someone with a Developer Edition, please get them in contact with me. I can be reached on Hangouts, or on Telegram (@npjohnson).
PLEASE do not post your CID publicly.

Just out of curiosity, correct me if this is lame thinking or not worth trying but would it be possible to change the cid to turn the device into lets say another variant in order to utilize something like CROM.apk or to odin another variants tar files to oem unlock a device?

You could, but the device 99% wouldn't boot.
Plus, you do realize developer editions are unlocked? Why would you want to flash to another variant to oem unlock? Literally the same thing.

Alright guys, a new exploit is great, but let's not get our hopes up just yet. How many times have we had our collective hearts broken over situations almost exactly like this one?
I really really hope this turns into something useful, but for now, I'm assuming it's just a flash in the pan.

Well. Why don't you read the paper?
All devices that:
1. Use a Samsung eMMC (allows CID write)
&
2. A Developer Edition (allows you to supply a developer CID, and use their aboot)
Are vulnerable.
Question it if you will, but I am packaging things up as I write.

$25 From Me
for the person who roots it. I paid a similar bounty to root the T-MO LG G5 and it's definitely worth it to me.

I don't own this tablet but I see its on 6.0.1. I believe T-Mobile version has unlocked bootloader so recovery needs to be built..Thats the only way of rooting mm.

The bootloader can be unlocked as described in the main thread. However, could you please provide more details about rooting with recovery?

He was talking about compiling recovery first and then root using TWRP by flashing supersu in TWRP.
To make a twrp recovery, from what I know, devs need system dump. A kdz file is better but shouldn't be mandatory.
Since our bootloader is already unlocked/unlockable, we just need to wait for some devs who know how to compile recovery and are interested in our device with free time to compile TWRP recovery using system dump.

You need root *BEFORE* you can even install TWRP, locked bootloader or unlocked bootloader doesn't matter. You have to find a way to root it in the first place.

What you said is not true. Neither is a prerequisite for the other. For some devices, they get twrp first and then use twrp to root, while for other devices, they get root first and it's easy to install twrp with root and unlocked bootloader.

Maybe that's true but I haven't personally come across an LG device that you can flash a custom partition without having root first. I've only seen that on Samsung when you could Odin a custom recovery tar. Without root, you don't have permissions to flash over top of your stock recovery. And if you can put TWRP on without having root you certainly still need to come up with some kind of vulnerability for the device, whether it's root or something else, in order to get around the stock protections that keep us from installing and using a custom recovery.
In the case of both LG devices I have, you need to have root and a bump-vulnerable bootloader to install TWRP. I'd like to know so I can be aware: what devices can you put TWRP on before discovering a root vulnerability?

All devices that have MM out of the box need to unlock bootloader and flash recovery first! There is no such explocit that allows you to root MM! Thats why Chainfire made SYSTEMLESS ROOT FOR MM, which basically places root in boot.img, in MM system cannot be touched. Hence recovery is mandatory to root MM which this device came with, its not G Pad 8.3, you cannot downgrade to KitKat bootloader as it doesn't exist! BUT as its from T-Mobile they bootloader IS UNLOCKED out of the box, do if someone builds recovery you can simply flash it in fastboot. Devices that require recovery are G4, G5, OnePluses, Nexuses, Sony devices and many many more.

Ah, sorry, didn't realize T-Mobile bootloaders are unlocked out of the box, my bad. Here I had thought all devices had a locked bootloader these days, especially out of the box Marshmallow ones.

Does the old dash charger and cable from OP3 work with OP5? Is there any difference between the old and new charger?

I can't tell for sure, but I would say it should be compatible. The product itself didn't change on Oneplus Store after Oneplus 5 launch; that should be an indicator for compatibility accross versions. Is there someone here who can confirm that (upgraded from 3 or 3t)?

I posted a question for Oneplus support and they confirmed that my old dash charges (the car and the mains) both work with the OP5
I'm planning on unblocking the bootloader when I get the phone. If I wanted to relock the bootloader at a later stage, is this possible and will it go back to "locked" or "relocked" type status, or would you be able to tell it was ever unlocked?
Just curious if this will have implications to DM Verity and android pay working in the future if I ever wanted to go back to pure stock without root and have those things work.

Yes OP3/3T Dash charger or car dash charger both would work fine with OP5 and Visa Versa

Yes you can lock the bootloader later on via fastboot to locked status, no implications with DM verity if you flash the no verity zip.
You can go back to stock anytime you want
Just flash the latest stock rom and recovery and lock the bootloader to go back to stock.

Hey I just got mine OP5 few minutes ago, now I would like to unlock the Bootloader but in order to do this I need the drivers for windows 10... where can I download them? If I just turn on my device and connect it nothing happens
Hi, is there any option to change the resolution when taking pictures and videos with stock camera? I've looked in the settings but cannot find anything.

Check this post specifically but you want to read all of the instructions in this thread "OnePlus 5: Unlock Bootloader | Flash TWRP | Root | Nandroid & EFS Backup & More !!".
My OP5 is currently unlocked and waiting for TWRP to become available.

I did it and downloaded the files but somehow my windows pc still does not recognize my oneplus... whatever after I booted my Kali(Linux) system few minutes ago everything worked well
If I buy the OP 5, I hope to use it for 3 years, therefore:
How long will software & security updates be provided for OOS with regards to the OP 5 ?
Can I expect 2 years and then in the third year be advised to flash a custom rom (I'm sure there will be plenty).
USB Audio
Just got the phone today only to discover that it USB audio doesn't work out of the box. Had USB audio working fine on the OPO but I can't seem to find a way of getting it to work in my car.
I've ran through all of the options and even rooted it to try and mess with a couple of .xml files but still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

I've heard that a device teardown revealed that they are still using the same dash charge part in the OP5 as in the OP3(T).
I guess that won't be a problem.

Hey guys, I want to root and probably even flash a custom rom on the OP5. But I had to learn the hard way that flashing a custom rom can damage the device hardware.
I've got my damaged Galaxy Note 4 (probably a broken motherboard according to some xda users) working now except some shut downs/ freezes thanks to a bit of practice that I've made in the last four months.
What could I do to not end up with a device with broken hardware cause of custom Roms? OP clearly says on their warranty page that rooting doesn't void the warranty but damaged hardware does.
Thanks in advance.

The OP5 is the fastest selling phone from OP according to a tweet from themselves. And the OP3(T) is still in the top ten of most popular xda threads.
We should be able to get a proper custom rom soon and good support for a minimum of three years is what I'd expect to happen for such a device.

I don't believe it has been released. The phone has general launch on the 27th so I presume that's when they will make this stuff available.
I have uploaded a TWRP backup of my system and boot though If you need that? Check the other questions and answers topic for 4.5.1 backup needed.

I'm still getting good community support for my opo. Seriously, I don't have a reason to update to op5.

How long did you use Stock (I'm guessing at that time it was CyanogenMod, as OOS didn't exist), before moving onto the custom rom scene ?
Its good to know your OPO is still serving you well also

A month or something. I was frustrated with the bloat wares of Cyanogen from COS12. So I moved to official cm12. After a month Sultan dropped his cm12.1. From there on wards I was using Sultan's Builds. His ROM is rock solid, more stable than stock! For me community builds are way better than what OEMs giving us. I never tried OOS BTW

Well when you do eventually upgrade from the OPO to I'm guessing another OnePlus smartphone in the future, enjoy the massive spec increase and i'm sure Sultan's roms will be there also for you to enjoy.
