[Question] graphical glitch? galaxy s5 verizon 900v - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi- this screen never appeared before and now it does -.- tried wiping factory resetting and this image wont go away from my homescreen. Idk what happened please help looked everywhere of how to remove this but no one has had this issue. This never appeared on stock until after i unlocked my bootloader and installed cm. Tried to use the repair assistant and its still there.
edit: idk why it does not show in my screenshots. here are some photos taken from my iphone... hard to show but there is a white line that is in the background of my homescreen. Shows an sms icon slightly transparent. Annoying **** to look at when I take pics on snapchat. As you can in google playstore and the snapchat photo a SMS icon appears behind the mic in play store and under the switch to facecam icon in snapchat. Does anyone know a fix??

I still have no idea what you are talking about.

lol. ok before on my screen it will be normal fine no graphical errors no visual glitches. pictures wont show it for some reason but if you had my phone in my hand it would show up as SMS icon at the top of my screen like right below the navi bar. Shows up in camera and on my snapchat. Never happened till now. Idk if my screen got messed up or if its the constant switching of roms etc that gave me that glitch. its like a white line that separates the navibar and the rest of the screen at the bottom shows a menu bar on the left corner and some icons. its very transparent under the homescreen display like if the stock rom overlapped

like it shows a small phone screen is under the home screen. in the background- get me?

It's screen burn in. It happens with amoled screens if they are left on a static image too long. You can try some burn in fix tools in the play store. That's why you don't see it in your screen shots it's a hardware problem.

When I chose calendar, i got a black pixel on the calendar bar (gray bar, just under the black start bar)...and when I choose Excel or contact, it's gone...but they are same gray background...
Doesnt make sense...my display passed all colors on PocketLCD ???!!!
and my two "stucked pixel" at Contacts are exatcly the same spot as the ones in the GSMARENA screenshot review...this is weird !!!
Anyone care to explain ? Do u have the same behaviour too?

I can at least confirm this. Same pixels occur on my device. No explanation to this here.
Eriol
Same here on the contacts screen.
I've got the same, and looking at screenshots on the web, it seems specific to the HD.
ie this diamond shot seems OK:
http://i.gsmarena.com/vv/reviewsimg/htc-diamond-vs-samsung-omnia/sshot/gsmarena_s049.jpg
but HD not:
http://i.gsmarena.com/vv/reviewsimg/htc-touch-hd/sshots/extra/gsmarena_004.jpg
Yep, got this on my HD too, weird. Perhaps a quirk of the HTC customisations?
i have a dead pixel too when i start my camera. it's strange because the same dead pixel does not appear when doing something else.
i can also confirme the 2 stuck pixels in contacts manager.
strage ....
I'm not going to look for it - if I see it once, it will annoy me every time I look up a contact.
Sounds a curious little feature though.
Yup had this problem once when i installed GSEN had to delete it because it cause my screen to display a dead pixel when their was none. so try uninstalling programs which might be causing it.
Regarding GSen, that is their way of showing the GSen app is running, small white pixel top dead center of the screen. If you soft reset you'll notice its gone until you re-launch GSen again.

Then, we need a new ROM to fix this issue... I wont be bother since it's a SW issue not HW one...
I have the same dots in contacts, doesn't look like dead pixels, otherwise it would have shown on the snowpicture on fullscreen.
its just some lame graphics issues when they made it.. dont worry
I've got the same thing, but it doesn't look like a pixel problem. I hadn't noticed it before, now I can't ignore it anymore
Pixel
Hi,
i just recognized a blue pixel on the screen when i start the cam .
So i downloaded a tool called "smartUDPixel" to check the screen for dead pixels BUT everything looks fine.
What`s going on? Why`s the blue pixel only shown by using the cam? Any reason for that?
Thx for your feedback.
Stefan
I have one white pixel that shows up in while in camera mode and shooting a dark scene. Strange however as its not visible in any other programs.
Same here too addition to one black pixel dead appears when the screen on blue color :S
If you can capture it, it won't be dead pixel on LCD.
Hi
The pixels as per the original poster is something to do with the WVGA resolution I think as I see the same thing on the Topaz, but not on other devices.
Regards
Phil
WOW............are you all talking about those tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny teeeeeeeeeeeeeeny little dots that can barely be seen?
Man my eyes must be **** lol I have them but I had to put my glasses on (there for reading and even then I could barely see them)
Whats the big deal? Flash a new ROM with a different contact UI
And I thought I had OCD lol

Small Request to whoever has the Note

Hey! Can someone with a note set a pre black background a the lock screen background and report whether it looks normal? Someone had reported a problem with the gallery background with a black image, but I couldn't find a mention of lock screen there. Just google image search "black" and download and set it as lock screen. Seems to be giving me pinkish hues... same image works fine as a desktop background...

Most lockscreen wallpapers look horrible on my Note, not sure if my 240dpi is causing this. I use another lockscreen app set to transparent, so I don't care.
The Note's screen is 24 bit, so a picture with 16 or 8 bit depth might not be rendered properly.
Best to find a 24 bit image to test, try Google search.

Something weird is going on with the background on the lockscreen when i use a black picture.

Same here.
Good to know that I'm not alone. Every other background seems fine. Same thing happens with the gallery background when the only image in the folder is a pitch black one, right?

Well all those images render fine in other applications on the phone so its the lockscreen wallpaper 'setter' wich messes it up I think.
Ya, I'm pretty sure too that that is the case...
I have a black lockscreen and it looks great.
I have noticed that when I have 'screen filter' app running, it dims the foreground but causes the background to do the 'grey' thing.
I have most of the auto display stuff turned off (auto brightness, auto adjust screen power)

That guy mentions that his blacks aren't completely black. Our problem here is that setting a completely black image as the lockscreen leads to a messed pattern with greyish/pinkish stripes...
edit ; same thing occurs on mine. I even created two black background non compressed, 24 bit, one even with 285 dpi.. both show the wierd little gray stripes on lock screen. only notice it in very dim light by the way and even then if i look very close.
this is what i use. both screens look black as night.

Use the darker red "sun" wallpaper gallery image - awesome on mine!
I have the same problem...
Has anyone tried restoring?
I set a black image and got the very dark grey bars others have described. However, I reset it to the original wallpaper and noticed that the white-ish parts of my background has bars as well! Just not as noticeable, and its only on the lock screen.
This is my background picture by the way:
http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/2754/yellow_autumn.html
There seems to be some kind of gradient over the image on the lock screen - I'm just using the default for now, but if you set the default as your normal background as well as lock background, there's quite a difference. Could it be this gradient which is causing the issue with pure black backgrounds?
I'm using widget locker and here is my lockscreen with the homescreen wall paper which uses solid black background color
I am having the same issue. I just noticed it yesterday. I really thought it had something to do with the phone going below the minimum brightness it was designed for, but if you look at the notification bar it's still a clean black.
My guess is the phone is compressing the lockscreen wallpaper to save memory.

Can people try WL (If you've purchased it) and see if it does the job?

System colors output fails

Well, I suppose I'm not the first, but still I hope this is fixed. There are parts of system especially menus and gradients which are rendered terribly. This is a software bug, since everywhere else, colours are rendered fine. I have screenshots attached. Is there a fix for this? Thanks

no, if you look closely at the grey background on system menus you will notice it isnt a flat or evenly graded colour, down the middle is a line, the best way i can think of to describe it is its like an oil spot on a dark shirt, its not always noticeable but its there.
Exactly, thanks!

Seconded! And I was beginnig to think there was something wrong with my device. Yesterday I noticed a slight discoloration when looking closely at the popu menu backgrounds (like the one when you attempt to install a downloaded apk file). It appears in the right part of the box. It looks a bit like a hand, a splash of liquid but with sharp edges. When I rotate the screen horizontally the shape keeps being rendered in the same part of the menu and retains its shape. Curiously enough when I examined menus in other parts of the OS the pattern was different, more blockish. I think it will be hard to photograph so check your tablets guys. The screen on my device is otherwise fine so it must be software related.
I don't recognize what menu you are on, but on mine settings/apps shows no background blur like that. Manual lighting, 50 percent.

No fair blaming Google for an app problem. There are a million ways Dropbox could have messed that up.
Can you give me an instance that only involves Google apps? Like maybe in Google drive?

Any system dialog box. Go to settings and set a "notification tone" in the dialog box where you select the sound you can see horrible artifacts that look like dark gray mountains
That and set any gray gradient as a wallpaper and you'll see horrible banding

OK... I went to Settings / Sound / Default Notification.
Then it gives me a choice of apps to use to browse to a sound. I chose Media Storage (the only Google one).
Now I have a list of tones and checkboxes, with a gray background. Brightness manual, 50%.
Holding the screen straight on, and tilting to look straight across I see no gradient or artifacts at any angle. Amazing off-axis range...
Anything else I can try, or is my device just "different"?
I have those gradients too, funny its not reproducible on all devices

Stock 4.2.
Not currently rooted - root makes multi-user unusable for me. Root Manager has it "temporarily unrooted".
I don't have a gradient background to try. That notifications panel is an even gray. No gradient.
Bump up the brightness to 100% you will surely see it if it is there. I just updated to 4.2.1 and it is still here. This update in fact broke my Android Beam, I can no longer send images from my Nexus S to Nexus 7 like I could on 4.2

Try holding down on the icons and moving them. If you can, remove them from the screen and re add them. If not, try disabling any xposed modules (if you have any that could effect the home screen) and look at it again. I don't personally use the touchwiz launcher and this never happened to me, so these are just guesses. Also, I noticed you have a strange colored Google app in your bottom bar. Did you do anything to the icon, and if so did you possibly break other icons while doing it?

I did factory reset my phone and still see these , is there any software to fix that or this is a hardware issue .
is this called a burn-in issue or it is called some thing else .
thanks for replying .
Are those applications actually there software wise? If not, then it would be a burn-in, where the screen has the images "burned in" and can't be removed. If they are there you could try flashing a stock tar using Odin for whatever build you want.

yes , they are software wise and if you look very good in the pic you can notice the whatsapp shadow on the screen , also I had flashed the stock.tar odin rom many times and they are still there , if this case is a burn-in issue what software would you suggest to fix because I tried all the softwares on the playstore and they didn't help .

The only other thing I can suggest is to take your phone to Verizon and see what they can do. They might have to replace it.
having same issue in MotoG3
I got this phone(MotoG3) 15 days back, it worked fine for a few days and suddenly I noticed that a "Whats app Shadow" is coming on my home-screen, it was hardly noticeable at first but then it became darker and darker, I replaced the phone thinking it might be a software issue, and got the same handset today itself, it worked fine but again as I installed whats app the same shadow problem appeared, I uninstalled it and it started to work properly. Am not sure where is the problem, so please help me out.
About the shadow issue:
The home screen of whats app appears in my wallpaper and also above all the other apps, a transparent shadow kinda thingy, I hope you people got what am trying to say.
Thank You
I also have the same issue on my redmi note 8 but in my phone i doesn't shows the shadow of the icon but but the shadow off appa inside when I use anh app
I have the same issue on my Pixel; the shadow apps aren't directly on my home screen, but when apps are opened. Perhaps due to Google system.

Why does my Moto G4 Plus have a weird preview of other apps?

This is kind of hard to explain but whenever I use my phone, no matter what app is open, or when I'm on the homescreen, some apps kind of show transparently on my display like it almost looks like the current app being used is translucent that I can see the other app? I can't really explain this properly. Screenshots don't show what I'm talking about.
It shows up at the very sides and top portion of the screen. It also shows when I bring down my notification shade. The grey part at the top which is supposed to be completely grey, still shows the battery icon, time, notification icons, signals, Wi-Fi indicator, etc. but very translucent. As if the grey quick toggles thing is translucent.
Again, screenshots dont capture the thingy. So I'm sure it's an issue and not intentional by Motorola.
It's screen burn issue. It has been discussed numerous times check through the forum for more help.

Install this, set on 5% black and after a while the burn images are gone. (keep the app on all the time, the one that I linked to is the one with less battery usage, from the 4 I tested)

I've seen some people complaining about the same issue after they've replaced their screens. It will still occur no matter what.
And, the app you're making me install, is just a screen filter. I use it all the time. Lowering the brightness doesn't fix the screen burn. It just makes it less prominent. But it is still there.
