Nougat is on the way and we're still on 5.0.2 - Onetouch Idol 3 General

fyi there are billions of people outside of NA region, flashing your MM unfortunately is not an option (missing languages, PIN screen lock error etc (6039Y))

Now, now, calm down, we have to wait for Alcatel to release the Idol 3 Marshmallow source code (They seem to be taking their sweet time) before any custom ROMs can be made. Likely we'll only see CM13 and other CM-based ROMs as many other projects (including other CM-based ROMs) have died out. Luckily CM13 has many languages, so just wait for Alcatel to release the source code or the Marshmallow update for your region before complaining.

It's not the lack of CM that's the problem - that will come when it comes. It's the fact that after two weeks, there's still no news about Marshmallow outside of NA. AFAIK, most users in NA have marshmallow now, but those of us in Europe and elsewhere haven't got it yet.

You should have bought a nexus device, then.

Android 7.0

Guys Motorola just released list of devices that will be officially supported for Android 7.0.Unfortunately Moto Turbo did not make into that list. Now i see no chances in future too Although Droid Turbo 2 made into that list
The Droid Turbo is still waiting on Marshmallow, let alone Nougat. Its international model, the Maxx, didn't even get MM until earlier this year. We'll probably be lucky if we get official MM at all.
Speaking of which, the Maxx isn't on the list either, which doesn't bode well. Probably going to have to wait and hope someone builds CM14 for our phone, if you want Nougat.
CM14 (Nougat) will come for Quark

You are referring to this updated Nougat device list from Motorola:
http://motorola-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/n-is-for-nougat-android-70-is-coming-to.html
There was an earlier list 3 months ago, with more devices to be added at a "later date". Yeah, no Quark phones made the updated list.
Of course, the Droid Turbo XT1254 made the Motorola "Marshmallow" list back on October 2, 2015 but Verizon deigned not release it to Droid Turbo owners (yet or maybe ever).

That someone is our CM dev @Skrilax_CZ, and he has already committed to that.
Quark got Lollipop before Motorola gave it to us (March 2014 vs April 2015), Marshmallow before Motorola gave it to us (February 2016 vs July 2016) and will get Nougat. He's just waiting until nightlies for any CM14 ROM starts rolling out.

Then, after Quark CM14 -- especially the kernel work -- other ROMs can build on that framework. We have 7 custom Marshmallow ROMs for the Quark (maybe 8 depending on how you count) -- they work on ALL Quarks, thanks to our CM dev. '
No reason we won't have just as many Nougat based ROMs.
Here's hoping that CM14 fixes the signal issues of CM13
I unlocked my bootloader (SU4TL-49) but now puzzled if I should wait for CM14 or install CM13 now...
I am new to installing a custom ROM and don't know if it is worth the time to install a soon-to-be outdated ROM.
Also, if the recommendation will be to still install now, which ROM to get. Just sick of Verizon and Motorola crap.
Thanks

Install now. CM13 (Marshmallow) was in "beta"/preview the first month. (And that "first month" for CM14 Quark ROM may not be until November.) Whereas CM12.1 (Lollipop) was rock solid. I didn't switch to a Marshmallow ROM for awhile, from CM12.1.
Go with the stable ROM (CM13) or other Marshmallow ROM for now. You can always change by end of the year.
You may even like Marshmallow Bliss or Resurrection Remix ROMs better than CM13. They seem to be the two most popular right now.
Edit: changed a word with a synonym so it would be understood without a negative connotation:
I'm typically a cyanogenmod fan and I used cm on this device since it was stable until a few weeks ago.
I'm currently rocking marshmallow Nexus experience rom, but before I go back to cm13 I'm going to try mokee.
Resurrection remix and bliss are filled with features. This is NOT a bad thing it is just features I hold little interest in and I keep finding myself just going back to cm.
Nexus experience doesn't screen cast right. Other than that it works great.
Cm13 doesn't pass Android pay or Pokemon go security checks. Rooting is NOT enough. So if you use either app my recommendation is Resurrection remix, Nexus experience or stock brazil marshmallow without volte
ALL Roms other than stock lollipop based Roms do NOT support volte (data during phone calls)
ChazzMatt and mrkhigh,
I can't thank you enough for quick and detailed responses!
Sounds great, I'll do some more reading on those roms and decide which one to get.
Thanks!

Bliss isn't "bloated", it has the smallest footprint of any ROM I've built or used. And it reboots in under 30 seconds, my Keurig isn't that fast. @bhb27 is constantly working on RR, and it's the most popular/downloaded ROM we have, no doubt about it.
VoLTE is something you have to sacrifice in order to use a custom ROM. bhb is trying to fix that too, but unfortunately, he lives in Brazil and is not a VZW customer.
I know that you know what you're talking about (been around long enough to see that), but to say Bliss is "bloated"...
My apologies. You took it wrong... I said it was bloated with features.... Meaning lots and lots of features.
They are features I don't use. So for me they are by definition 'bloat' but i did then say that's not a bad thing.
Probably a poor choice of words since it is often used negatively. Kinda like the word ignorant sounds bad but it would be completely correct to say "I'm ignorant in Pascal coding."
Bliss is an amazing rom. Just like cm rr and mokee.

Edited statement above so nobody else would mistake what I was trying to say. It now reads filled

Words are funny like that, yes? Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to a custom ROM (good thing we have many to choose from, lol), I just misinterpreted your meaning of "bloat", so: My apologies to you as well :highfive:

I've been considering leaving CM13 do I can use Android Pay and Pokemon Go(my son loves to play) which ROM do you recommend, Nexus experience or Brazilian stock? Which one is less hassle to get those apps working?

Neither. If you want those things, you'll need to install the latest official Motorola release for your Droid Turbo, and nothing else. The latest update to SafetyNet broke the workarounds that were used in CM-based ROMS (Brazilian stock never passed SafetyNet at all, even without root or xposed installed). I think suhide might still work, but only on a stock marshmallow ROM that passes SafetyNet, and we don't have that.
EDIT: Never mind. I might be wrong about all of that. Check out Resurrection Remix. The dev has added a companion app called iSu that works as of 3 days ago for hiding root (stock CM root, do not install SuperSU), and apparently it passes safetynet.
JFYKI, I haven't tried out Bliss yet but I noticed that ROM size is 330mb for Bliss while RR is 273mb. I am quite satisfied with latest version of RR on XT1254.
The size of the system partition, if I'm not mistaken and assuming you have not manually resized it, is about 3 GB. So I'm pretty sure neither Bliss nor RR is going to fill that up anytime soon. But if you can somehow fill up that partition with mods that need over 10 times the space of the base OS, you are my hero.
The system partition is 1.94gb and I haven't ever resized the partition. With stock based ROMs, I was struggling with space on system partition. You're correct that with almost everything installed that I need, there's still 500+mb available.

RR is your best bet. Use the iSU app and you can "keep" root
I'm currently using it due to that exact reason.
With nexus you'll have to simply "unroot" I left that ROM because face book kept locking up?!
And I would ASSUME the Brazil ROM would work out of the box since I do not believe it includes root.
Resurrection remix works just fine
Fwiw I think Brazil ROM no root would be a great choice as well. Nexus was buggy with Facebook for some reason but unrooted it passed safety net
Cm13 will NOT pass even unrooted. No idea why.
Brazilian does not play nice with Xposed...

my question .. will Note 4 get update Nougat 7.0 Official?

No. This is extremely unlikely, as the model is more than two years old now. It was unlikely that Note 4 received update to MM at all.

already struggling with mm , still update nougat ?
According to Samsung's policy, flagship devices are likely to have only 2 years of software updating while our device has just passed that amount of life time, thus, no more major Android update, security patches may still be delivered. (Note 4 has many major Android updates over time, from 4.4 KitKat to the 6.0.1 Marshmallow). Again, this is the biggest problem with Android where software updating is limited, especially for non flagship devices.
From now on, our only hope of getting latest Android version is through unofficial way, CM14, AOSP are our best friends, we only need to give our devs a great support and they'll help our phone to survive one more day. Be optimistic guy

We won't be receiving N officially, but we will probably get some version of cm14 (as advised by @yashthemw)
But I also strongly think we will start to see s7 ports of N as beta N just dropped for them over the last couple of days.
So wouldn't be surprised if we see a ported version to our device some time over coming months.
I'm gutted we lost our AICP maintainer ? would love to have seen AICP N running, MM is running buttery smooth with great battery life for me. But we need to sort out our cm14 branch first.
i think so

[ROM PORT REQUEST] MIUI 9 for Mi5 based on Android 8.0 Oreo by Xiaomi.eu to Z2 Plus

Hi Devs,
It's a humble request to all Experienced (Recognized) Developers/Young Developers/Members of XDA to PORT MIUI 9 ROM based on Android 8.0 Oreo for Mi5 by Xiaomi.eu to our beloved Z2 Plus device...
I know MIUI 9 by YouLinw exists for our device, but that PORT is purely based on Chinese build of MIUI 9 for Mi 5 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and is very limited to global users. No international user understands Chinese very well and they prefer the language in their preferred locale and Xiaomi.eu project enables the same and provides multi-language Official ROMs (PORT) by Xiaomi. Plus it is backed up by built-in Google Apps, so there's no need to perform any Gapps installations after flashing the ROM itself and is TWRP friendly ROM...
User/Dev Narshi Shukla has done exceptionally well in maintaining the MIUI 9 thread and providing help/support for that particular ROM PORT by YouLinw and changing/modifying many aspects of the PORTED ROM itself to make the ROM more usable to Global end users but still it lacks these three points, First is Android Oreo build and Second Gapps and Thirdly the addition of International languages/locale.
Considering the above benefits of having Globalized version of MIUI 9 for our Z2 Plus, that too on 8.0 Oreo build and with GApps included is something that many users are looking for...
I was trying to PORT this ROM my self but I'm facing technical problems with my PC hardware, as such my motherboard has got damaged and was sent for repairs to Service Centre and is with them since last few weeks and till now, no report on repairs done by them/working condition/service completion of hardware by the concerned SC... So I would request other Devs to Kindly step forward, if possible, please...
Your efforts are always appreciated and welcome guys...

Well, atleast let the ROM go stable for Mi5, as it is released just few days ago in beta. After proper release, porting maybe an option.

Some users reported heat and just 3 4 hours sot, force closes here and there and there are many Oreo features are missing,
Let it progress and lets see how stable it will be after 2 3 updates,
Porting Xiaomi eu roms among other are in my list, but time management is a problem for me so it may take time.
Hope to see more devs/users trying to port MIUI based on global Branch.

That's what I said but I think MIUI 10 will be properly compatible with Oreo as MIUI is always little late implementing all the features from AOSP like the amount of time taken them to apply notification reply.

Or are they just working on updating a faster bootloader unlock process for us?

I did, so I don't have to lose my data once factory images are available and I decide to root it in the future.
Yeah exactly the same reason as the post above mine. I unlocked the bootloader the day I got the phone so that way when the time comes to do any rooting or modding I wouldn't have to wipe my phone and lose everything. And I've still received all the ota updates on the L24 thus far with the unlocked bootloader.

It's A Logical Path To Pursue...
I have NO FAITH in Honor releasing Factory Images in the near future.
I think there is a "Method Behind The Madness"
Personally, my Android Data is all backed up in 2 places.. and it's all Android - Centric
I would NEVER do ANY personal business (Banking , Shopping Etc) on any Android device.
Especially an HUAWEI / HONOR device.. for all the reasons my Government has stated.
This is not a "Long-Term" solution phone for me personally.. It will be sold.. actually it would have already been sold, but I had $900.00 vehicle repair snatch my OnePlus 6 money right out of my hands..
This device was a Failure as far as gaining Developer support...
No Custom Kernels: "Franco's Kernel" oh if only... ( So why root.. You can't under / overvolt, swap governers, add features etc )
Even though Kernel Source was released 5 months ago.
It appears... Treble Ports are the way of the Future. I'm not complaining just stating facts.. ( I guess if I loved the 7x that much I would learn how to pack a Kernel for myself and use it..) but I don't love the 7x and it's Kirin Technology enough to do so.
This device will just never gain ground or love.. is hated by my government.. has the Un-popular ( For Developer's ) Kirin Processor and a weak GPu.
What it does have is Oreo 8.0 and Project Treble Support baked in.
Let's keep it shinny and in "Like-New" condition.. Pure Stock ( No Warning! Screens NEVER Modified in any way ) and ready to sell...
That's The Ticket.
So I'm unlocked rooted and running TWRP on my l24 does that mean I miss out on emui 8 or are there any Solutions

How long you think it'll take for treble to be active for this device? I'm considering updating to the beta so I can then use the RR rom but whats the point if I can just wait a few days to get official Oreo and then be all in with treble. I guess I don't fully understand what treble is nor it's immediate relation to this device.

Treble will help get custom ROMs on our device faster. Just wait for official Oreo. Than we unlock bootloader. Wait for updated twrp with Oreo support. Than custom ROMs. Than would need treble support twrp. So we still have a ways to go for treble and custom ROMs. But we're getting close.

This is a simplified explanation of how Treble works, or at least my simple understanding of it. Google requires any device shipping with Oreo to have the main OS reside in its own partition separate from the OEM vender stuff.
Is no one else going to comment on how crazy this guy is?
Why Wait ?

Listen... You Don't Need To Wait For Anything...
I MAY BE 100% INCORRECT.. BUT, IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HUAWEI / HONOR HAS STOPPED THE ABILITY TO RETREIVE YOUR UNLOCK CODE (OFFICIALLY) FROM THEIR WEBSITE.
If True...
Do you know what that means?
It means... they MAY NOT enable the Vendor Partition in the OFFICIAL ( O.T.A. ) version of Oreo / EMUI 8.0 that will be released in about 48 hours from the time of this writing.
Without That Partition.... Project Treble is a NO GO.
In your case.. If all you want to do is run the ROM you mentioned, just use the Bootleg Method posted elsewhere in these threads to Unlock your bootloader.. Install one of these Unofficial TWRP's floating around... and install your ROM.
Done.
Why Wait?
For the Official Release of Oreo on Monday when all you are going to do is Overwrite it with a ROM posted elsewhere?
Sounds Like You Know What You Want...
Go For It.
Stock Oreo has NOTHING OF INTEREST for those that just want to flash Beta ROM's
Stock Oreo / EMUI 8.0 is for those of us that put 100% Stability and FULL Functionality First & Foremost..
I paid 100% of the Price for this Device.
I Personally.. Want 100% OF THE DEVICE'S SOFTWARE & FEATURES FUNCTIONAL...
At this point in the 7x's development... Only Stock EMUI provides that level of performance.

If I Handled My Personal Business On A Cell Phone... I'd Be Concerned Too...
If all you have are Android Apps.... who cares.
That's a PERSONAL CHOICE as to how much of your life you trust to divulge to your cellular devices.
And Yeah... as far as features an the ability to Customize a Pure Stock device, EMUI Kicks Ass and Takes Names :good:
And it's Soooooo Stable and Smooth.. and has 10 TIMES the Developer Support for Customization of what you ACTUALLY interact with.. than those who worry about what the Developer - Unfriendly Kirin Engine is doing.
It Cracks Me Up how many have went Ape S*it trying to Root and have bricked.. then are like OH MY GOD! HELP ME!
Leave the Damn thing "STOCK" until the day you have REAL REGIONAL FIRMWARE available to you.. To Fix Your Boo-Boos.. And leave all these BOOTLEG methods starting to pop up left and right alone.

Hey Ahmad...
Here is a way to avoid seeing my emo's
I ONLY POST IN "MY THREADS" WHEN IT COMES TO THE 7X... THERE IS NOTHING ELSE OF RELEVANCE HERE ANYMORE EVEN WORTHY OF MY TIME..
I'm sick of seeing " Help Me! My 7x has fallen and can't get up! " threads.
So you pretty much will not see RAIDERWILL & HIS EMO'S anywhere but in a thread he created.
SO AHMAD... JUST STAY AWAY FROM "A-N-Y" RAIDERWILL THREADS.... AND YOU'LL BE GOOD-TO-GO.
Why?

Have You Asked Yourself that mono....
I Don't Know.... Over 1/2 of all the comments I've ever made on XDA have been "Thanked" for being useful or insightful.
But... since you're *Correct* in your assessment of RAIDERWILL... I guess the 500 or so others were either just as insane as RAIDERWILL for giving him Acknowledgment with a " Thanks! " or simply don't possess your keen insight...
Or... could it be that.. ANYONE on this rock we refer to as Earth.. that has the Unmitigated Gall to Disagree with YOU Monorail should be Hanged, Drawn and Quartered !!!
Pssssst.... Hey You...... Over Here.. I'm going to tell you a secret to help ease your Ailment...

Through Xiaomi's new policy .....

Through Xiaomi's new policy phones manufactured for Chinese market
are not been able to run MIUI Global ROM and vice versa.

if you dont have an unlocked bootloader it wont let you flash a global rom.
this is basicly to prevent people from buying chinese versions from aliexpress.
the problem is that these sellers open the bootloader and install a fake global rom / global rom on it...
if you have an unlocked bootloader you are fine, your playstore wont pass safety net though
...
Now Xiaomi Phones which are manufactured in China Factory/China Hardware, can't be able to run MIUI Global ROM with Locked Bootloader.

Damn... I should've bought global version proudly made in USA with American hardware...
I just hope LineageOS will come to our phone so I can be done with all the Miui Xiaomi BS
Are the call problems on global rom irrelevant to this?
or somehow Xiaomi made the global rom incompatible with Chinese models?

Oooh, believe me, it will...
How are those AliExpress sellers unlocking the bootloader and installing fake global ROMs? Do they have an army of people making fake MIUI accounts and waiting for a month for an unlock code? Sounds to me like they use logic probes to flash the fake ROMs directly.

That's a good question.
If it is so, why would they do that?
What's the benefit of this for Xiaomi?
This looks very bad.
They can make all the excuses they want, but I think there's a pretty clear agenda here.
I'd be surprised if there's still a development community for any new Xiaomi phones in 6 months, given how fast this is deteriorating.
As long as they keep device price down, bootloader unlockable and release kernel sources everything will be fine with development community... That's all devs need.
MIUI fans are those that should worry...
Prices are likely to stay down.
The other two ... doubtful. Some people are already waiting 3 months for bootloader unlock codes. If that becomes the norm, that's development stone dead.
They've also done absolutely nothing about releasing kernels in a more timely fashion, despite promising it repeatedly over the last year. If anything they've gone up slightly.
People ignored the warning signs with Huawei, and others before them, or hoped for the best (I did). Look where we are now.
They actually released Max 3 kernel source pretty fast, less than a month after device launch...
https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/nitrogen-o-oss?files=1
The thing is no custom roms coming out of China forums which makes me think this device has no China market success... That wasn't the case with first Max. Custom roms started popping up first week after release even without kernel source...

The problem is understanding real difference between the China & Global versions, how they decide to allow or not allow flashing of the 2 versions.
In the official announcement they imply this restriction is only for devices released under 2018.
On 4pda they seem to think that there is no actual hard difference ("model identifiers"?) between Global and Chinese Mi8, but there is for the respective Mi2s, for example.
If I read correctly.
https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=906971&st=940#entry75262442
Looks like all restrictions are in bootloader - unlocking, ARB, market variant. There is no hardware differences/restrictions between any of the Max 3 variants period. Otherwise you will not be able to run different MIUI versions with unlocked bootloader.
devinfo partition keeps the bootloader unlocked status. Not sure where the bits defining China/Global device are kept... yet...

That may be but it's the people who flashed the Global Rom on a China device who have the problems
with phone calls / broken modem.
Would they have built in a restriction in the Global Rom so you could not install it on a
China device to work properly ???
We won't know till proper official Global rom shows up on en.miui.com. All I see right now are global roms from under the table so to speak full of bugs.
Most of us purchased the Mi Max 3 which was manufactured for the mainland China market, because the "global" variant of the phone was only released a few weeks ago in Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. If the official warning on the Xiaomi site that phone's manufactured for the Chinese market cannot flash global ROMs and vice versa, then our solution is to use the xiaomi.eu ROM. Xiaomi.eu is a modified version of the China ROM, but is entirely in English and other European languages with full Google framework services. The MIUI 10 8.8.9 China weekly development ROM available from xiaomi.eu is rock solid. Once Xiaomi releases a China stable MIUI 10 ROM for the Mi Max 3, xiaomi.eu will tweak and release it for the English speaking world, so for those who bought their Max 3's before a global variant was manufactured will be fine as long as they use xiaomi.eu.

I'd be very surprised if this isn't selling well (very well) in China. It's an incredible value proposition, and large screen & large battery are seen as very desirable in both that and other Asian markets.
However, I think the 3 month wait for BL unlock *is* the norm now for Chinese and select other Asian users .. whereas rest of the world it appears to be totally random. Could be a couple of hours or it could be 3 months.
I think you'll find that's the reason why there's little to no Chinese development activity. As I said ... thin end of the wedge, IMO.
