ICS 4.0.3 OTA halted by Google

i just wanted to have a confirm of what i 've read in a italian forum.. it seems that google decided to stop the ota because of an excessive usage of the cpu and a battery bug in the ics for nexus s.. is it real??

Yes due to high CPU usage and battery drain. Hopefully the CPU usage is contributing to the poor app drawer performance. If not then hopefully it is on the list. The app drawer on my S is TERRIBLE compared to friend's Galaxy Nexus.

I have a ns4g and for those that received the ics update on the ns, Google will fix it. I'm sure within a week(s) because they are admitting fault and pulling it so more people aren't disappointed. I on the other hand have an extended battery and would gladly take that ics update lol

I dont think this is happening to everyone, I am using 4.0.3 and cpu usage is low and battery is great. Same with 2 friends that installed it. Maybe something related to specific networks or sinals.

Sad to see Google break because of a deadline.. There is no possible way anyone involved in the development and testing of ICS on the Nexus S line didn't notice the problems with it on this phone. This is something I'd expect out of Samsung.. It's ok though, thanks to devs my phone is finally stable enough..

New ICS build at the horizon? (4.0.4? 4.1?)

No wonder the i9020a hasn't seen the update yet. I hope they can resolve this bug quickly. Like before Christmas.

It will take a few builds for Google to get all the bugs ironed out. Same happened with the Nexus One and GB.

it;s a kernel issue...use a custom kernel, and it should be fine

I'm having this problem. The phone stays awake while I don't use it. And when I check the stats Android OS' is eating most of my battery and keeps the phone from sleeping. I have stock ICS with stock kernel.

So where is the official statement from Google that the OTA has stopped?

There hasn't been one (EDIT: that I've seen). The updates are still live on Google's servers, so until there is official word or the update is pulled, there is no reason to assume the OTA is ending.

Very strange, 4.0.3 is much better for me than 2.3. What we can expect?

Lag? Maybe the tweaks caused the lags because I haven't had a single lag on my LG G3 3GB/32GB. :S
Regardless, I was debating between the G3 and the Nexus 6 when I was buying my phone. I got the G3 obviously! Enjoy your Nexus 6! It's a fantastic device

Nexus 6 is a good choice if you dont mind its size.
about that lag, i had it first when i got it. only way to fix it is to switch to ART instead of dalvik .really eaz to set and you wont believe the difference. of course no tweaks come close to it. struggled with that lag myself in first week.
also installing lollipop also removes the lag completely, of course its using ART by default and rom itself is a much better performer.
1 more thing. if you dont wanna switch to ART for some odd reason, i think the culprit is the launcher so just check nova launcher out. set it to default and restart phone.
anyway personally i love Nexus 6 but its unusable for me cause of the size but if you are ok with it, good for you.

I wanted to get n6 cos g3 had some lags .. But after i updated to lollipop V20D i changed my mind ..cos its very smooth the camera very good and bo lags at all ..good luck man with your n6 ... Just tell me which camera is better g3 or n6 ?

So far the nexus phone is awesome, but it is bare. I do miss a few features if the g3, but the dual front speakers make the switch a good move. The phone is slightly bigger than the g3, but I love it. Videos, browsing the web is so much better.

i would have bought the nexus 6.. coming from a nexus 5 it was the logical upgrade.. thing is... its massive... no longer a phone.. its a tablet. you will realize its a mistake , way 2 big

Coming recently from the Moto X (2013 model):LG is beautiful, screen is much better.. But, on stock Android: it IS a bit slower than my Moto X was..
I wait for lollypop, hope it will solve the lag issue.

The G3 does have some lag. I even see lag on the lock screen when entering my PIN (sometimes). It's been this way since I bought the phone. Running stock rom with root, xposed, and g3 tweaksbox.
I tried the CM12 unofficial recently and it is a lot smoother than the lg rom. The only issue is that it literally eats the battery... once they get this sorted out and a stable release comes I will move over to CM on my G3.

Used to have a one plus one. I jump phones so I left. Hey...its what I do. What I am hoping for is to prove a point on why my one plus one got way better battery life then my G3 does. Virtually the same specs. Same carrier...same apps. Now. Here is where someone with a 1+1 comes in. Using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iattilagy.usemon you can monitor the GPU usage if you scroll down a bit. Would prefer a relatively stock like setup. It doesn't even require root. Just run this app for about a half hour using no games or anything just oh idk. Texting, hangouts, Tapatalk, no gaming. I want to see what the GPU freq it runs at most often in that 30 min. Then snap a screen shot and PM or post it here.
Hopefully someone will help me out with this.

I can probably do it for you sometime after tomorrow, I'm currently running AK's kernel so I can't do it atm. Whenever I flash the next nighly I'll wait on flashing AK's kernel, and then I can do it for you as I don't use my phone too much during the week, if no one else has done it by Monday just PM me, and I'll do it for you.
Also, any particular reason you jumped to the G3?
EDIT: I run a very stock setup , running CM12 nightlies. No background apps like skype or whatever, either. Should be perfect for a comparison.

Perfect! Not really any particular reason besides same specs and slightly smaller bezel. Never figured the difference would be night and day. 1+1 wins in my book.
G3 battery life is horrid imho. I got 7-8hrs screen on almost daily. With he g3 only about 3 give or take. Got a 9000 mah battery now. Things a brick but I get 11-12 hrs screen on. Its sad. With this battery and my old 1+1 I'd feel comfortable in saying 20hrs screen on min probably 24

Yep the GPUs are working about the same. Has to be the screen it self that makes it such a hog whether it be the QHD since they both IPS displays.
Thanks for the help. I'll be watching for the 1+2 in the future. I had a very good 1+1 experience... Its far better then the G3 IMHO.

Custom security fixes

I have Z1C with stock firmware 14.3.A.757. It's rooted. I like it battery usage and don't want to upgrade to Lollipop, because it drains battery. But I know, that Android 4.4.2 has some vulnerabilities, so I would like to fix them "manually". Is there a way to apply a liitle patch for it like hotfixes in Windows?

An easy fix for the stagefright vulnerability is just to switch off MMS autodownload in the settings of your SMS/MMS app.

I want 4.4.4, but I don't know how to get it with root and ability to install it from TWRP.

Are you unsing Facebook or Whatsapp? When I installed LP (stock) I had poor battery life, top consumers were Apps with Internet connection like FB, Whatsapp, Chrome. They would keep the mobile radio active (bug?). Battery life was 1 day, now, after downgrading to KK, I get 3 days.

Using facebook lite,whatsapp,chrome and i kill wakelocks with amplify
I got almost no drain at night on wifi and 3g,i loose like 2% for 8 hrs so i think my phone is normal...

I see your screenshot and I think, your uptime is hardly equal 2 days, about 1.5
So I will not update to LP. I will disable MMS and will live fine

I see what you're saying, but I hardly doubt you have 4 hours screen on time over those 2 days. Screen kills the battery most, and I haven't used stamina mode yet.
It's up to you, but I think the security is worth it. I'd update, give it a week or so to settle and see how it is. If it's not what you had before, you can always roll back to 4.4.2.

Updating to a LP will not help to fix all latest security issues. Only after Sony will release a firmware updates you will get it.

Let's see...
Android KitKat 4.4.2 (14.3.A.0.757) with root, Screen time On is over 8 hours. And battery usage is about 4 days.
So I will wait for Android M

At least in that screen shot, data is not active that I can tell. That would make a big difference.

How's the update does it get rid of lag? Is it smoother?

I played with my tab for 5 min . This morning before heading out to work. It seemed a lot smoother . No factory reset or anything. Tab is cooler ,didn't feel it heat up sometimes like I had lately . Small things like Google on tap ,different bolder clock font noticed also .All I got so far .

Well, at last, the constant screen redraws have disappeared. And DOZE seems to work, as advertised. All in all, the 9 is now the tablet it should have been last year. It works.

I am on LTE and got the OTA update yesterday
However, it WILL NOT install. I keep getting an error message when it tries to install.
I have stock Nexus 9 LTE with no custom roms or anything.
Might a try a factory reset see if that works.

I've got marshmallow on my Nexus 9 (WiFi) and I believe it's significantly smoother. I can't say for sure since I've only used it since I got the prompt to update my tablet on August 8th.
Battery life seems to be a bit better. Of course going through the permissions and turning off permissions that were unneccesary for certain applications may play a role in better battery life (since location, etc. won't be used, for example). Hope this little comment helps anyone out!

No update available for me yet. I have a 32gb lte model and am in California.

I am extremely impressed with the performance and speed increase! It feels even faster than when I first got the tablet. Good job Google!

You don't even need to unlock bootloader to sideload. It won't void your warranty

I'd like to know who has gotten the ota update, what model they have and where they are located. I'm in California and still no go. I check about every hour cuz I'm obsessive like that.

What build are you on?,I don't think Google will push M to you unless you've got the latest build which is LMY48T.
As soon as I side loaded the LMY48T build the Marshmallow update message came through instantly,I'm using the nexus 9 WiFi model in the UK.

I'm on LMY48M I have a 32gb lte model. Would the Wi-Fi and lte models have the same build number?

Yeah,they have the same build number,LMY48M is the build immediately before LMY48T,this is most probably why you've not had M pushed to your device yet,you should do what I did,sideload the LMY48T update zip via ADB,you should then receive the Marshmallow update OTA from Google.

I'm pure unrooted stock. I've used adb a few times on various devices. I will have to do a little reading before I tackle that. I found the ota zip thread. Now I just need a good guide for a stock device.
