Updated to G900VVRU2DPF4... used it for like a day, now having a big problem. Help? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I updated to G900VVRU2DPF4 and my phone was working fine until when I rebooted one of these times. Now I am getting 'Unfortunatly Sytem UI has stopped.' so I hit ok then the sreen goes blank with my homescreen wallpaper (and starts blinking from black to the wallpaper Except when I hit the lock button then It locks) and I can't do a thing. I recently turned off ADB on the phone so I can't do nothing there and I tried clear cache that did not work. I read that I need to erase the data on the system ui under setting, apps... but I can't even get into setting. I DO NOT WANT TO FACTORY RESET THE PHONE and erase all my files. There must be a way to fix it. I tried remote controlling via wifi (like with google's device manger and Samsung findmyphone) but now the phone won't connect to wifi for some reason it won't turn on. I am trying to sideload Samsung Good Lock because that might fix it also but I can't. I need help big time. When I connect it the the computer it kinda read it but I can't get files off the phone but it shows up and Unassuming Kies/Smart Switch does not work either. There must be a fix without loosing data. Help Please? :'-(
P.S. I tried adb sideload the PF4 updated in recovery and that did not fix it.

No I am not. Fully stocked. I had good lock installed before but I turned on finger unlock and good lock did not support finger unlock so it uninstalled.
I am kinda waiting also on sammobile to post the latest firmware. Since I heard you can update &/or reinstall the firmware without loading files like apps and stuff. (excpet if you are not on official stock) But I still would like some help.

Even though it's an update before? Or should I wait for PF4. But I do in w they both are 6.0.1 and also I do have it downloaded but I used Sam Firm tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647) or should I get the one from Sammobile?

Get PD1 from SamMobile, and flash it thru Odin. I'm hoping this won't make anything worse but it should let us recover your data (that's the hope)

Ok! Yeah my friend had a brick issue like a soft brick. And he was on stock also so he downloaded his firmware and installed it... It did not wipe his. I hope it doesn't wipe mine. My only problem is that I have fast internet but since I don't have a premium account on sammobile it will take 2 hours that why I was asking about SamFirm tool.

SamFirm ONLY allows to download the latest firmware (which is PF4), and we need PD1 :good:
If you were rooted we could have just done an "adb shell" into your phone and gotten all the data off, or simply use the built-in File Manager of Safestrap or TWRP.

I get stock firmware from sammobile.com. You'll have to register but it's free.
http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyS4/SGH-I337/I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_ATT.zip
scroll to the bottom and enter the requested code to initiate the download.
When returning to stock. I used your all in one to root, do I need to unlock the bootloader or anything.

I have tmobiles 8.5 gb data plan. yesterday I downladed a large file. This morning my data connection was really slow. So trying to work around their throttling, I went into the service menu and changed he network control>band preferences to CDMA/LTE only. Worked for a while and then things returned to normal. (Slow crappy service.) So i went a little deeper changed something else in cdma selection ended up without any service at all. Then after a lenghty talk with att and tmobile I decided to do the process to turn on aws again. After doing that the service returned, but the data is still the way it was.
I actually had it where it was saying it wasnt activated asking me activate my phone.......yeah stupid I know I shouldnt mess with things especially when I have no clue what they are. Lesson learned just trying to fix my mess
PS I am not over my data limits

When you return to stock, you're staying all over again. You'll have to reroot, etc. Be sure to be wary of your device trying to grab the MF3 update. Maybe take your sim out and leave wifi off while you root, backup and flash to your desired rom

Don't worry about the boot loader. It's locked and you can't unlock it. After returning to stock with odin re-root it using motochopper. Do ask that with the sim out and WiFi off so you don't get the mf3 update.
See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42320391

Delete the Samsung and kies drivers.
Run ccleaner
Install the Samsung drivers
Then run Odin
finaly got odin to work flashed and rebooted. i thought flashing a rom would delete a lot of my stuff? It is all still there and now my computer doesnt connect to my phone it charges it but doesnt say it is connected.
I have tried different cables and different ports with no luck.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) - Rooting failed (Odin stuck), need to recover

Hi all,
So I've decided to root my Exynos International Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root. All went well until Odin got stuck at cache.img, then fails after a couple of minutes. I unplug the phone and restart it, it then displays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" whenever I try to boot. I can access download mode again, but not recovery. My phone is stock 4.2.2.
It's the first time I have such a problem, I flashed a couple of phones before without any trouble. I searched XDA for a solution and tried other Odin versions, different cable/ports, even tried on another computer: Same issue. Stuck at cache.img. I can't get my phone to work again. Some people suggested it might have something to do with USB debugging, but I can't remember if I left it enabled or disabled.
I didn't back any of my data (I didn't expect the root to fail...) and retrieving my phone, rooted or not, is of the utmost importance. Please avoid posting solutions that involve data loss.
Feel free to ask about anything I might have left out.
Thanks!

I think you'll have to flash an official Sammy Firmware to get past the error, although if you look in the Note 3 Android Development, I recall seeing some deodexed, rooted firmware that is supposed to work from Odin. Not sure if any of them are for exynos version though.
Data? I keep everything I can on the extSD for exactly this reason. You should be able to remove the card and put it in a card caddy and read it in a PC and copy out your media etc. The root process shouldn't have overwritten anything you need.
For rooting, maybe DL the SuperSU zip file Chainfire's website and flash it in Recovery once you're up and running? I use TWRP but Philz or CWM recoveries will do it.

I see. So in newbie terms, if I flash the official firmware I have from SamMobile, I should have my phone back running with all my apps & data? Also, any hint about why rooting didn't work in the first place?
After this tragic experience with Odin, I'm gonna forget root for now, maybe update to Lollipop then think about rooting again.
Thanks for replying !

Did the official firmware work when you did it? If so, download Phone INFO Samsung from Play and use it to check what hardware you actually have.
I have had issues with CF-Auto root recently so I flash Stock, then the TWRP md5 file (in Odin 3.09) then I boot into Recovery and flash SuperSU. That gives me Recovery and root. You normally have to run SuperSU when you start so it can update.
U[pdating to LP is a good idea - most of the things going on in Dev are now LP versions.

I didn't flash the official firmware ever. Before trying to root with Odin and getting it stuck, I never flashed or modified anything internally on this phone.
Obviously, I can't use Phone INFO because my phone is stuck at BSOD.
I will upgrade to Lollipop, once I can get my phone working as it was. For now I'm still hesitating to flash the official firmware. I don't know if that would wipe the apps or just get back the phone as it was.

It will wipe Apps and Data - it makes your phone like you just bought it.
I didn't realise it was stuck in that mode - just thought that happened whenever you tried to flash something.
First thing. Turn phone off. Take back off and remove battery for 10 secs or so. Turn it on holding down Vol Down + Home + Power - release when DL screen shows and press Vol Down. If that gets you into the phone, spend some time saving your data to extSD.
I use Call Logs Backup & Restore, SMS Backup & Restore, I export my Contacts to ext storage. I use TiBu to backup all my apps to a folder on extSDCard. If you are on Stock ROM, you should be able to set your camera to save to extSDCard but you need a file explorer (I use ES File Explorer) to copy your current DCIM folder across - other than that, look for music, documents and video folders on internal memory)
If it doesn't open the phone for you, & your data is important, take card out and use adapter to save data onto a computer.
Go to Sammobile and download the proper official firmware for your phone - note you need to set up a free account before you can DL.
Download Odin 3.09 Run Odin
Then repeat the phone process but this time press Vol Up when at the DL screen. It is important to have the phone Off and electrically flat before attempting a firmware update.
Connect phone to PC - Odin should recognise it. If it doesn't you probably need the Samsung USB Drivers so get them and install them.
Then connect phone again. Click AP and find your DL from Sammobile. Wait for it to load then press Start. Wait... it will reboot and usually sits on the logo for quite some time.
Set up your phone, and restore or reinstall your apps.

Thank you, I just tried going into download mode and pressing vol down, still get the same BSOD. I guess that means phone cannot be recovered as it is...
I'm backing up my stuff now. I have no problem backing up contacts/SMS/etc.., but can you tell me whether I can still back up applications and restore them as they were using Titanium Backup on PC ? I know this should have been done before even soft-bricking my phone, but since it inaccessible to run the app on it...
I already have the official firmware waiting to be installed, just need to be sure about TiBU and that I backed up everything correctly Thanks for answering !

That depends... TiBu can only recover what you've saved (obvious I know...) and only if it didn't get wiped in the new firmware flash. (which it will if you didn't choose extSDCard for the backups)
Other than that, once your phone is set up and your Google account active, Play Store will DL all your apps.

Unfortunately it's a Play Store app, so first you have to get your phone working.
You could try the attached from Recovery but I have no idea if it would work as it's from my rooted CM12.1 system.

The only other thing I can think of would be using ADB over USB but I don't know if that would work with DL mode or if it is only for Recovery. You'd have to search and learn how to use it.
So maybe time to just get the phone working and make sure for future you have backups?

SOLVED. I can't believe how easy it was. I was about to flash it over from scratch but then it struck me.
Chainfire ships Odin with all its root bundles, a version where you cannot untick "Auto Reboot". Because of Auto Reboot being ticked, Odin freezes at "cache.img". It might not freeze for some people but for me, having Auto Reboot activated causes the freeze
Downloading a different version of Odin (any version, I used 3.09) that allows changing parameters and LEAVING EVERYTHING UNTICKED BUT F. RESET TIME works like a charm.
Don't forget to reboot your phone after Odin displays PASS or RESET (Long press power).
I'm going to PM Chainfire about this, and tell a max of people about it.
Thank you for your support

You need to download Odin, then download one of the recent firmwares like PD8 etc. Put your phone in download mode, hook it to your computer, open Odin, click AP then pick the firmware file you downloaded and hit start.
You should have Odin from when you rooted and you can find the firmware file on the forum here. Just search for PD8 or PG1.
You soft bricked your device. no big deal Samsung makes it fairly easy to fix. Download Smart Switch to your computer and use the Emergency Software Recovery/ initialization process to recover your device. You will have to re initialize your device and you will lose everything on your internal storage but your phone will be fine.
Again the root method discovered uses an ENG boot and is not meant for every day use it is not true root and will always cause more issues than it is worth.

Pokmemon Go/ Uninstalled Kingroot and derooted boot screen custom & gear icon on boot

Pokmemon Go/ Uninstalled Kingroot and derooted boot screen custom & gear icon on boot
Hi, so a while ago I tried using kingroot and installed it for a little bit and used root to uninstall some factory installed apps like amazon, etc. then when i decided i did not want root anymore. i used the kingroot app to remove root and then uninstalled the kingroot application.
then i downloaded a root checker app to see if i was rooted. i was not.
now whenever i boot up my phone it says samsung and then the word custom with a gear icon below it.
now when i tried the newest version of pokemon go version 0.37.0 it says it cannot run on my device cause apparently it thinks i am rooted.
is there anyway to solve this? other than a factory reset?
I don't think a factory reset would help either.
You'd have to delete every trace of root left on your device, and kingroot probably left some files behind.
Unless you can find them, the most sure method is to flash another ROM (stock) though Odin.
I believe a custom kernel would also work, or the stock boot.img of your current ROM.

The ROM you can get from Sammobile. As for the files left behind, I don't know how kingroot handles those, but to access and delete them you would have to be rooted.

ok, i powered down the phone and held the power and volume up buttons to get into recovery mode and then i selected wipe cache partition. and then rebooted. it seems that has solved the custom and gear icon below on when it first boots up. cause now it shows samsung galaxy s4 which is correct. but when i try pokemon go 0.37.0 it still says this device or software is not supported what should i do now? i heard somewhere that you can use xposed framework module

The ROM you can get from Sammobile. As for the files left behind, I don't know how kingroot handles those, but to access and delete them you would have to be rooted.

I already told you that a factory reset does not unroot.
If you want to completely unroot, flash the stock ROM.
If you don't want that, downgrade to Pokémon version 0.35.
0.37 has not even been officially released yet. I mean, I don't even have it on the play store and it's the same for many others.
PS: Xposed also needs root.

ok now do you mean a firmware or rom? am i at the right place see screencap. also how large should these files be? i already have odin downloaded. i am using this guide: http://downloadstockrom.com/download-android-4-4-2-stock-rom-for-samsung-galaxy-s4-sch-i545-2.html
GDReaper said:
I don't think a factory reset would help either.
You'd have to delete every trace of root left on your device, and kingroot probably left some files behind.
Unless you can find them, the most sure method is to flash another ROM (stock) though Odin.
I believe a custom kernel would also work, or the stock boot.img of your current ROM.

You don't need a pit file. And if the files are wrong, the instalation will just fail.
If that's the firmware you had previously, then it's ok.

Yes. But if the firmware is older than what you had on the phone (5.0 > 4.3) it may fail to flash.

Have you even looked at any of the linkes or screencaps ive included in these posts? so this is the tar file i should be using to put my s4 back to stock? it says may 21 2013. see screencap. i got it from that rwilco 12 site.

J500F two problems, recovery screen is corrupt, custom roms will not boot.

Hello all,
I've got a couple of problems with a J500F. As usual, I rushed into doing things to the phone before reading fully (I've been installing various ROMS on my phones for quite a while now).
First of all, I've managed to install TWRP 3.0.2-0. But it seems that the calibration of the screen is way off what it should be. Clicking the "Install" button actually registers as the "Advanced" button. So I can still do things, I just need to guess where to click. Anyone else had this problem?
Secondly, every ROM I try and install will not work. I get a couple of horizontal lines across the screen, and nothing else.
Any help/suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Tony.
Tony only tme you should panic is you mess efs . If you hve stock rom flash it via odin this would solve ur calibration issues. And install nickverse version of twrp maybe you installed a version for 6.0.1 instead of 5.1.1

Thanks for the speedy reply.
I don't have the stock ROM, is it available on this site (I'm having trouble locating it).

Go and try sammobile or google it ull get it make sure to flash it through odin. Am sure you will be fine. Download the right firmware according to your country and region send me ur device name and region i see if i can share a download link

The model is SM-J500F/DS, and it's a UK phone. Sammobile does not seem to have any UK image, I'm wondering if it actually came from somewhere else (I purchased it on Amazon UK, but it did not have a UK charger).

Go to settings then send me screen shot of about phone. You can download an app from playstore called Samsung phone info(something like that) can tell you which region its from...

I cannot get into the settings (cannot get a ROM to boot).
I've just tried the Nick Verse recovery, it continually reboots the phone unfortunately without ever getting to the recovery screen.
I'll try one of the European ROMs from Sammobile, hopefully that will get things working again.
ok, I've got a stock ROM on the phone and it's booting up. But the screen calibration problem is still there which makes it unusable.
Going to see if I can use the app on Google play (not sure how I'm going to connect to the wifi though).

Then you might hve flashed the twrp without unlocking oem.https://boycracked.com/2016/03/30/official-samsung-galaxy-j5-j500f-stock-rom/ try that link.

When you say unlocking OEM, do you mean for the FRP error? I did unlock that (but don't recall unlocking anything else).

You need to enable oem to unlock ur bootloader then you can flash twrp. Ensure that usb debugging is on. You might hve missed one of this two

I'm guessing you probably need to upgrade your rom. Strange lines and out of whack touches are usually due to an incorrect firmware vs kernel.
Ensure you are flashing the latest MM rom for your device if the TWRP you are using was built using a MM kernel.
Try flashing stock via Odin. Guides are available all over XDA on that.
I'm just getting back to this.
I've shot a quick video to show what I mean is happening.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR5dF9lURcU
Jump to 10 secs, you can see that click location is way off/.
Anyone got any ideas? I've flashed a number of stock images so far, all have the same issue. I've currently got a mouse connected via bluetooth so I can actually do things as trying to work the keyboard like this is impossible.

Are you actually allowing the firmware to complete its update?
It must boot into recovery after odin finishes flashing otherwise the install isn't complete.
It should auto reboot to recovery and you should see 'erasing'
Then it will reboot and the update should be completed.
If it does not boot to recovery then this is likely why you have the described issues.

Yes. I've just reflashed to check. It downloads the image to the phone, reboots into recovery where it says erasing, installing system update etc. Then reboots and I get the "Android is upgrading" message where it does all it's "optimizing apps". The touchscreen error still persists .
I did video this (or portions of it) and can upload.

Which firmware are you using and what is your device spec?
I've got a few ROMs that I've tried
SM-J500F_20160812_J500FXXU1BPH1_J500FODD1BPH1_6.0.1
SM-J500F_20160512_J500FXXU1APE1_J500FOXX1APE1_5.1.1
J500FXXU1BPF4_J500FODD1BPF4_SLK
Same behaviour with all of them. I'm not entirely sure what region the phone was originally from, I purchase it on Amazon and believe it came from somewhere in Eastern Europe, so I've been trying images marked as Austrian, Slovakia, even Greece.
If it helps, the following is under the battery.
Model : SM-500F/DS
FCC ID : A3LSMJ500F
SSN : J500F/DSGSMH

Install Samsung phone info and post a screen shot of the CSC info.
It should show your original CSC.
Thanks, I've uploaded the screen. Sorry it took so long, I've been away and forgot the bluetooth mouse that I use on the phone.
It looks like the original CSC is SM2J500FZKDAUT, I cannot seem to find that on Sammobile.
