[ROOT] How to enable Sony's 4K video recording app - Sony Xperia X Performance Guides, News, & Discussi

Xperia X Performance doesn't have 4K video recording app by default, but actually it's already in our system!
How to enable 4K video recording app (need root)
1. Root your X Performance (use my AndroPlus Kernel)
2. Delete following file: (yes it says Enable 4K, but actually disables 4K)
/system/vendor/overlay/SuperVideoCamera-Enable-4K-Overlay-275-release.apk
3. Reboot and now 4K video should be in camera app list.
If it doesn't, find Video -> 4K Video from activity launcher (use apps like Nova Launcher) and launch it.
Sample video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crtqsawJ2E0
I recorded 20 min but there was no overheat warning or app crash.

Tried to freeze it with Titanium but no luck.
Removed it, reboot, and there is 4k video plug-in in camera.
Thanks.

Actually you can just use Open Camera from Google APP Store instead of using Stock 4K Video recording APP which isn't present by default.
In this way, you can bypass the temperature protection as well.

Thanks! This works also with Xperia X (F5121). Temperature problem not detected until now. Should I have this problem, I will try to disable the overheat app in titanium backup...

Do this without root is quite simple. As Android 6.0 has added a feature to the package manager. Just use "pm hide $(package name)" to hide the package.
It just like pm disable but can use without root!
So just run "pm hide com.sonymobile.android.addoncamera.supervideo.product.res.overlay.enable4k"
then open Camera, switch to video. then tap the setting icon and choose "Full HD (60 fps)".

is it the same on nougat??

@AndroPlus is it the same procedure on Nougat?

it seems does not work on nougat.

Work on Nougat

works on N! awesome!

Sorry for my very, very, very basic question:
How do I run "pm hide com.sonymobile.android.addoncamera.supervideo.product.res.overlay.enable4k" ?
I often see these command boxes or basic scripts in a box within a forum post, but how do I do that on the phone? Is there a terminal app or command app that can be used, or do I use ADB on my PC with a USB cable? (I have never done this, but from searching I see something like that as a way to execute commands.)
My XP f8131 is not rooted and I am on Android 7, and I would prefer to do this from the phone itself rather than a PC, if possible.
Thanks in advance!

Only can use via ADB shell. But Android 7.0 has been changed the secure policy so this cannot be useful at all

I tried on x compact. 4k is available but camera closes if i choose 4k.

4k video recording is not functioning properly on my XXDual btw through the 4K Video app

I just picked up a Sony Xperia X Compact and was wondering if there's any updated workaround for 4K on Android 7.0
Thx

This works on my F8132 Nougat and after deleting the file, SafetyNet still passed.

Mine does not close on XC but instead shows an odd color blur on lower left corner when in 4K mode. Also when starting 4K recording the the video recording itself goes extremely dim and it's difficult to see what's being recorded. Palying back the video shows colors are all messed up. Almost inverted. It's difficult to explain without screenshots.
Also SteadyShot must be Off. Otherwise the screen freezes when trying to record 4K+SteadyShot active video and produces corrupted 3KB video file. H264 vs H265 option does not seem to make a difference.
Either way it's not usable. Thankfully it also does not seems to affect normal video recording so its problably safe to delete this APK to see what results you get.
EDIT: I'm on Marshmallow. X Compact. F5321_34.1.A.3.49_R4B
Stock ROM+Stock Kernel. Unlocked BL. Root active. BusyBox installed. SELinux=Permissive. DRM keys active via PoC: https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/poc-real-trim-instead-drm-fix-t3552893

Is there any other app that will offer a good quality 4k option without overheating or damaging the phone? Or is that to much to ask from this little device?

4K Video Camera is buggy on Nougat (Xperia X/X Performance).

Lowering Camera Resolution

Hi!
Personally, I find 21 MP to be a bit excessive in terms of how much space pictures take up, so I'm wondering how I should downscale my pictures from this phone.
1. Lowering the resolution inside the camera app.
2. Get another app to shrink my pictures after I take them.
My concern is that if I set a lower resolution inside the camera app, I will only be using a portion of the pixels on the sensor or the app might use a really fast compression algorithm that produces low quality output. Does anyone know what really happens when you don't select the highest resolution inside the camera app?
Thanks in advance!)
I shoot in 16x9 which lowers resolution to ~16 mp

If you're rooted then I can help you, if not then I can't.
If you are rooted you can enable developer options within the moto camera app (not to be confused with developer options within the phone settings).
There are a few ways to do it but the way I used was the xposed module "moto checkbox".
If you use it just go to camera options and enable development settings (it says something like that). Be sure to go to statusbar options and check " use AOSP icons" too, else it'll replace your data indicator icons.
Don't touch anything else within the module because it wasn't made for our phone. It sounds like a lot but it really isn't.
I think you can download a modified moto camera somewhere but this was the easiest way for me since I use xposed anyways. If you can find a modded apk then you won't need root I don't think.
Anyways, once you get it working there'll be a little ladybug looking button when you swipe out the settings wheel in the camera. Click it. From there you have access to lots of settings. You can change resolution like you want and it doesn't use crappy compression. You can do this for video too, and the camera preview itself, and much more. Here's some screenshots. Have fun :good:
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Labs
Found it the apk! And apparently it works on most Android phones as well! Thanks!

[GUIDE] 4K Recording on CM13 and Custom Roms!!!

As we know, for all Cyanogenmod Users was the Camera app a little bit flawed, it did not let you record in 4K. I found an easy workaround
for that, which should work with any ROM, not only CM.
Just go to the Google Play Store and Download Open Camera, with the link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...encamera&hl=en .
The open it and click the Settings Icon, go to Video Settings and set the Resolution to Highest; 4K Ultra HD. And that is basically it!
The app overall is a great replacement, it has way more controls over Focus etc. There is a bug though, when switching to video mode, the brightness will go on the lowest level. Clicking the settings and going back will fix that. I hope I could help you, Feedback is welcome!

(Root) Always 4K Screen Resolution

When it comes to screen Sony definitely tops the list above other manufacturers but our Xperia Z5 Premium doesn't always use 4K HD Resolution Screen, only when watching 4k video or things right? so why not to make it work in always 4K mode? more pixels- more fun
Warning: Note that on high brightness battery usage will be much more than 1080p screen mode
it requires Rooted device also
1.Download Terminal Emulator from play store
2. open app and write "su" without quotes
3. give it root access and write " wm size 2160×3840 " also without quotes
Screen will became "ugly", to fix it now type "wm density 820" also without quotes. after that all should work fine, play any video and you'll notice color changes and much More improvements, however there's always a way back to 1080p
to do it
wm size 1080×1920
wm density 420
Don't forget to click Thanks Button

Just thank you! It gave it a different and nice appearance but I noted two things. First the phone works a little slower and the other thing is when I tried to make a call the caller interface didn’t open so I was not able to make the normal functions like turning off the microphone, hanging up the call, etc. Unfortunately I had to put it back to 1080p.
you don't need root for this, you can do it with adb command though a pc without root
"adb shell wm size 2160×3840"
"adb shell wm density 820"
cheers

Hi Guys! I know you have lurking about that unutilized 4k screen of our phone, Why not enjoy "1440x2560" density of 534 works perfectly fine the only down side are glitchy looking start-up since it was designed to in 1080p and multi tasking has no thumbnails on it about it looks and feels good!
Just do
adb shell wm size 1440x2560
adb shell wm density 534 <-----------IMO this is the density, fonts looks smaller but legible.
ENJOY!
"You can do the same also on your Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4 Tablet, Z5, Z5 Compact ..... and on your crapold device, because this is not changing the display resolution
Seriously guys..... this is changing the resolution of the VIRTUAL display (not the physical one), so like this you are getting 4k emulation on 1080p physical resolution.
To change the physical display resolution you need to do "quite a few more steps", which cannot be done in a simple way like this (and surely not without root).
Moreover, even if -- yes, there is a way -- it's not doable on stock ROMs, as it misses the required implementation.
I am almost done here so, on Open Devices, you will be able to get real [email protected] whenever you want."

I wana buy Xperia Z5 Premium only for VR to watch 4K videos. Is still good? Can I play UHD 180° videos smooth, without any reboot with this mod?
hi does anyone have issues taking screenshots with these settings enabled? every screen shot says error app does not allow?

[APP Port] p20 pro camera mod ROOT

All credit goes to LastStandingDroid.
I was just browsing other Kirin 960 forums and noticed that the apk
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro/how-to/firmware-leak-t3760517
https://mega.nz/#!lapy2LxL!7DwzO1QQY7N5DSZi7l64V7efb8dy271CYx2jUWYdb4o
was not mentioned here in Honor 9.
I have just copied/overwritten the original HwCamera2 folder with the p20 one and it worked even without reboot.
New features include pro mode with a monochrome sensor and two options (90/120 fps) with slow-mo.
My device: Honor 9, emui 8 (360), rooted with patched boot Magisk
Just install the zip as a new module in Magisk, reboot and it works too, without having to manually overwrite the original HwCamera folder and files inside

Installed it with Magisk.
It replaced the original camera app for me, and rendered it unusable crashing on startup.
Promptly removed then rebooted again, it works again, but its name is now: "The front camera does not support panoramic shooting in landscape orientation."
Please without root
Would this app somehow modify it to go without root on Honor 9 with Android 8?
What are the advantages exactly related to the Honor 9 camera on latest B363?
The monochrome option already exists and I've noticed on the codec profile files that our Slow Motion option runs at 120fps on FHD and 240 on HD. So switching to 90/120 would be worse... Unless that camera app complements our options instead of replacing them.
(And by the way, B363 firmware also brings AR camera option)

Dunno. Maybe none. I have tested it on b360 without knowing the abovementioned features will ever be available in later builds. Moreover, it had appeared in other Kirin 960 forums, not here.

Do you really have 720p at 240 fps option on your Honor 9 ?
(I'm interested because I have a P10 and we only have 1080p @120fps available ...
Thanks

Slow Motion has 2 resolution options, 1024 and 720. And if you look at system related files (now i don't remember exactly which ones), you'll see that 1024p runs at 120 and 720p runs at 240.

4K option or forced 1080p?

Was wondering if this display shows native 4K all the time or has user selectable option for it?
Was super pissed with my XZ Premium being forced to render at 1080p in all but a few apps.
4K is only useful on this size screen for VR, so won't make the same mistake again.

Thanks for the reply. You answered my question.
Actually, the adb method was only emulated 4K, not native. Still selected the resources from xxhdpi folders and blew them up. Doesn't even select the xxxhdpi higher resolution images for 2K. For the best I guess. then it would scale it down to 1080p before enlarging to 4K adding extra blur.

What command in adb can force this screen resolution?
For the XZ Premium apparently the following would have worked:
In an ADB shell:
wm size 2160×3840
wm density 820
In my case the wb size command gives me:
Error: bad size 2160×3840
Probably we need another resolution
After change it to 4K, the screenshot have an issue ( not capturing the whole screen as 4k but the screen at a corner with other space in black. How do you guys solve this issue?
wm size 2160×3840
wm density 820
In my case the wb size command gives me:
Error: bad size 2160×3840
Try....2160x3840
Not ....2160*3840
I just placed my xz2p into native 4k mode with the dpi set at 640/xxxhdpi. I really like the increase in real estate and the integer scaling makes everything look crisp.
That said, I've currently got two hiccups (not already mentioned, I also have the screenshoting issue hereto described) related to dpi change:
(1) The monochrome viewfinder is behaving strangely, but still serviceable (wrong aspect ratio & tap to focus doesn't move the focus indicator)
(2) The rotation animation is really broken and is either firing twice or has some other timing related issue.
#1 I can live with, but #2 is a real drag. I've turned the transition animations off in the dev setting, but it still looks really weird when i rotate.
Any ideas? It seems like sony has made some additional changes to deal with the 4k/1080p pop in and out. Simply setting the WM mode doesn't appear to manipulate those hidden settings. Perhaps one of the on phone apps needs to be disabled?
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xz...20hz-quest-t3852052/post78603665#post78603665
...according to the xzp forums, its not actually 4k? how can one verify this?
Edit2: Saying things that will have me eating crow in no time!
I'm at least somewhat convinced the xzp peps are wrong. I have been swapping the phone from [email protected] dpi to [email protected] dpi. If they are correct either both would look exactly the same or the 4k version would look worse (because of the double scaling). It clearly looks better. A good test to try; make the icons and text as large as you can in nova launcher and switch between the two. If you look at the top and bottom of the dark ring inside the camera icon you'll see clear aliasing at 1080p and smooth curves at 4k. Just a reminder anything that is not a perfect multiple of 160 will always cause scaling on android. same with dpi values over 640.
I've got a pretty decent canon camera(xc10) with 10x optical zoom, once I find the charger for it I'm going to try to get some clean photos of the screen in the two mode and post 100% crops here.
