How to not list an app mobile data usage on Android Data Usage list. - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
I am trying to get Android not to track data usage of an specif app, but the only option I could found was to shut down app data usage at all.
But I dont want that, I just want that android do not consider this app's data usage in the total count.
This happens because my carrier offers me some free data usage on certain apps (whatsapp and deezer), so I dont want them to be on the systems data usage statistics...
Is it possible?
ps: I know I can probably download an data control app to get this like I want, but I wanted to keep using Android native data control.
Thank very much!

somewhat newbie data/3g/background data question

on vodafone here, just wondering if i'm paying through my nose if background data is enabled, auto off, 3g is on and data connection isn't active (nor is wireless).
Thanks, I've added three screenshots to explain.
First: get rid of that task killer
If you're on contract then I wouldn't worry about data, assuming your contract includes some data (in the UK Vodafone give 500MB of data). Otherwise, you'll just have to see how much you have to pay per MB, and see what you think.
tell me of a more decent task killer for c7 with 2.3 and i'll install it
and yeah, contract, *123# tells me i don't have very much to pay, but that's just voice
The point is you don't need any taskkiller Android doesn't need them. It will automaticly free up RAM when it's needed.

Use 3g watchdog to monitor your data usage
i skimmed it and recognized the argument, but it's a windows obsession, i guess... how come the flavour i'm using has back-button app-kill functionality then?
and hey, it's not like i'm running an antivirus
thanks to both of you for the tips and help, all the best
Long-press back to kill is mainly a development function.
3G Watchdog (as said above) and TrafficStats Lite. Use them both, they're excellent. TSL is very good for weeding out rogue bandwidth-stealing apps.

[Q] Android System uses alot of data.

I'm monitoring my data usage on my phone because I have al limited data subscription. Now I see Android System Using alot of data (background) when the phone is in standby. I dunno what for, when I press to look at the stats it just says Android System. I don't backup, only sync my contacts, gmail and agenda. Is there someting I'm overlooking that uses data through the android system. Its frustrating because its eating my data away without the knowledge on what or which program is using.
Maybe someone can inform me what to do? Used 90 MB in the last five days only on Android System.
SOLVED: It was a app called Dumpert.nl (dutch app for funny movies) everytime I played a movie it was loading as Android System. I noticed it when Dumpert wasn't showing any big data usage while using 3G.

restrict background data in data usage in setting
I have similar problem, but it is still within my data plan limit, so I just ignore it!
What I hate are these general terms in the data monitor app. Android system! Please google try to break it down to something more detailed for a normal user!
I also have quite a lot of data used by the play store, although I never download or update apps except on WIFI! I'm not sure how I got this data used!

Restricting the background data isn't possible with Android-System. It's bugging the hell out of me. I come from iPhone and if this isn't going to be sorted out soon. I will get a iPhone because this is not normal. I want to be the one who is using data and not the system alone. Google needs te be more specific on this subject. Nobody knows what "Android-System is doing. All the information is blocked.

Filter apps out of data counter

Hey guys,
My carrier made some updates to the service today and one of the biggest differences is that some apps won't count towards mobile traffic. I have been using the data limiter/counter built in Android for quite some time now and it's really close to what my carrier accounts so I rely on it to not go over the data cap.
Is there any way to stop apps such as Spotify to count towards the amount of mobile data on the Android counter?
I'm sorry if it's not clear enough but this is the way I am able to explain it better. In case you don't understand what I want, just tell me and I'll try explaining it better.
Thanks!
Don't think you can on the stock data usage settings
I guess I'll get back to 3G Watchdog. Sucks to have yet another app running on the background but I guess that's the only solution.
Thanks!

"Android OS" consuming insane amount of data in background

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, on ver 6.0.1; Build No:MMB29K.G935FXXU1APD1
Notice couple week ago, I have finished my monthly data quota of 3Gb, upon checking data usage close to 1/3 is consumed by "Android OS" in background.
Since then, I been on quest to find out what actually caused the drain on data. I have tried
1. Run in safe mode, "Android OS" in background continue
2. Factory reset, "Android OS" in background continur.
3. "Reset Network Setting", work for a couple a day, then "Android OS" in background came back again.
4. Off all Google Account Sync and Off background data, "Android OS" in background continue too.
Now I am really out of ideas... really disappointed with Android now.... planning to sell off my phone and switch to Iphone
Just as a comparison, between 7am to 1pm today, "Android OS" already consumed 37Mb; while my web brwsing in the same period only used up 95mb. And I have Facebook app disabled already.
at a 'wag' I'd speculate that you have one/all of the background reporting enabled (diagnostics, security reports, app scanning, et. al.).
you could also take a walk through the 'optimize battery usage' settings to restrict the various apps to limit their usage.
these things are discussed in the battery consumption thread(s) but they also affect data usage.
^^^ what he said
I had the same issue the very first week I got the device (800+ MB consumed by Android OS) - it automagically stopped once I greenified and Dozed the sh!t out of it.
Mind you, even at the beginning I had no sync and most of apps disabled for background data usage.
Sh!ty implementation if you ask me: it almost looks like a collusion between Google and the carriers to waste your data. Why on Earth would they otherwise have "Download boost" and "Smart network switch" which both suck up your precious little data (I speak as a Canadian screwed by the monopolies...).

"duh" - they can bill you for more data consumption, makes complete sense to me!
I had the thought that it'd be very nice (from a user' point of view) of everything not absolutely necessary was disabled by default and a nice 'wizard' walked you through enabling of ANYTHING which will use background data, location, or radio (essentially anything using power or money). Sort of the mirroring the "secure by default" ethic where everything would need to be individually opted-in. Alas, I feel this is contrary to the interests not only of the phone carriers (who want to bill more for data service), OEM (who want to regularly sell you a new device), and Google (who wants to leverage data of/about/by you to create $).
Or maybe I'm just a little cynical.

how you greenify Doze? dont think it is available on Sammy phone.
I started to monitor the "Android OS" usage every 5~10min... what I notice is, it starts drain data every time I go online, e.g. surf net, FB app, etc.
So for example, surf net at 10:00am... and close the browser... 5 min later I will notice the "Andoird OS" data consumption increased by another 2-3Mb.

2.9beta2...read the forum thread in the Greenify section.
Ok, seems to have found a solution. I boot into recovery and
1. wipe cache
2. wipe data
now it is running ok. "Android OS" no longer draining data in background.
Not quite sure why the previous two time factory reset via setting menu wont do the tricks though.
I have the same trouble! Android SO consumes a lot of data, I'm gonna try your solution I hope it works!!

AASAservice
Download the Package disabler in google play and disable the system app named AASAservice. You will be OK. I found this solution through a data manager app called DATAEYE. If you still worry about your data usage, you can try to use this app too.

Samsung is actually very open about it. They said that first and foremost, it is the carriers, that are their customers. Not the average Joe blow like us.

I think he's talking about BK package disabler Pro which is what I use too, great app.
However, cant remember now if this is possible in MM but in Android 7 Nougat you can restrict data usage for anything you like except apps that really need to use data like facebook and your browser etc, but you can still restrict them from using background data regardless, screenshots below, as far as I'm concerned, theres not really much on my phone that I want accessing my data without me knowing about it, I don't send picture messages etc, and I don't need weather and traffic updates every 10 secs etc.
Can anyone tell me what is this?
