Force WiFi Calling - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

I am less than thrilled with the WiFi Calling update, it looks like it only uses WiFi for calling when there is no cellular connection. Problem is, most of the time my cellular connection is so low I fade in/out during the call.
I have read that you can force WiFi Calling by turning on Airplane Mode, then turning WiFi back on. Sometimes when I try to make a call with Airplane on, WiFi on I get an error that prompts me to turn off Airplane Mode.
Does anybody know how to get around this or what is causing it?

Mine will default to WiFi calling when the WiFi network is good enough. If the WiFi network seems spotty or poor, then the phone won't use WiFi calling. If I have great 4G and WiFi available at the same time, the call is usually made over WiFi.

Did you change any settings to get it to prefer WiFi Calling?
And you're on a SM-G930V on Verizon in the USA?

Not that I recall.

Wifi and 3G simultaneously?

I just noticed a potential issue. When I enable Wifi, it appears to disable 3G.
The 3G symbol disappears. Is it possible to have Wifi and 3G on at the same time?
How is that an issue? Every android phone I've owned (G1, MT3G, N1, Droid, Incredible, Vibrant) does exactly what you're talking about when you turn on WiFi. If you're on wifi, you dont need 3G.
... and I believe this option is set by default; if you are on WiFi and the screen goes to sleep the WiFi will be disconnected and the cellular data re-enabled.
If you're concerned about making phone calls, don't be. You still get phone reception just as if you weren't on the wifi. If you want 2 data streams, that's not gonna work, though I have no idea why you would need that.
I've switched from wifi to 3g and back to wifi again while on hold in a call and sending emails and browsing. This phone is awesome. Off topic, sorry

Can you run Wifi and 3G/HSDPA connections simultaneously?

So the if the phone connects over wifi it drops the data connection that might've been present on your phone network connection. Is it possible to configure your phone to maintain both wifi and 3G/HSDPA connections at the same time?
I require this because my operator provided (H3G UK network) Skype application only runs on 3G and I have to keep turning off wifi for it to work.
Funny, I find this feature great!! With my WM phones I never knew if it was using wifi or my data connection....even if you can do this how do you make one app use one connection over the other?

Good q, i'd also like to know if it's possible...

You can try droid wall, and configure it to block wifi for skype, it may solve your issue.

Hmm, doesn't sound like that will work, because the phone has already dropped the phone network data connection as soon as I get back home onto my home wifi network (due to prioritisation?) I want the phone to maintain both so I can receive incoming Skype calls at home with fiddling with my phone. I understand why the phone does it and it is sensible for it to do so in most cases, but just not for my usage requirements!
Is it a software/hardware limitation that wifi and phone network data connections can't be open at the same time?
Install Nimbuzz. It supports Skype without that bulls**t restriction. It doesn't support group chats though.

if WiFi is on, and 3G is on
the phone automatically uses WiFi first

I lose the "H" or "3G" notifier when the phone connects to wifi, that's why it looks like it's purposesly dropping the data connection once it picks up my wifi, I can't see a way to maintain both simultaneously.
I'm using "Skype for 3" provided by my network, it has special integration on the 3 network which allows me unlimited Skype usage (inbound and outbound) without it eating into my data plan. So with this benefit I don't really want to use an alternative app.
I want to keep Skype running all the time so I can receive calls on it, but once I get home, the wifi kills the "H"/"3G" connection, which means my Skype can't receive calls.
the icon isn't there but i think the data (H / 3G) is still running in the background, incase your Wifi fails.
wifi is the... PREFERRED network?
have you tried getting your friend to call you via skype while you're on wifi?

[Q] Overseas Internet Calling?

Heading to Afghanistan this week. Does anyone know if wi-fi calling works there and will I be charged roaming fees? If connected to wi-fi, will 3rd party messaging apps work? How about skype, tango, qik or gtalk? Any info is appreciated.
The problem with using wifi calling is you can't connect / use when in airplane mode with wifi turned on. You have to have sim card on with wifi, which I was told may or may not incur roaming charges. BUT any call you make with wifi calling on will be like you making a call from the states.
When I went to a foreign country, I use tango, what's app with wifi, and airplane mode. That is completely free.

I was in Europe earlier this year and it worked great for me. I had my T-mo SIM in, mobile network disabled, WiFi calling app set to WiFi calls only and it was working great on all WiFi networks I connected except one - the modems of one of the local DSL ISPs seemed to have ports used by the WiFi calling closed so I was getting connection errors in the WiFi calling app. But this was one single provider and I guess if I'd researched it I could have fixed it in the modem settings.
I don't know anything about the other options.
Skype and Gtalk work fine on WiFi. If your communication can be done at specific hours (which I presume is correct) - Skype and Gtalk are good options, and even video calling on them is good enough and doesn't require much bandwidth usage.

Strange things about hotspotting after latest update

I noticed that if you are connected to wifi, instead if disconnecting wifi when you turn the hotspot on, you can now hotspot your wifi back out. Perfect if you have to pay to connect to wifi. Means you can share that wifi connection.
I also noticed that if you connect to wifi and activate the hotspot, wifi calling and SMS operate as if you are connected to a cell Network. I had expected wifi calling to work when wifi calling is active, but for some reason, you can also send SMSs ONLY when the hotspot is on.
I cant figure out why either if these two fantastic things work only when the hotspot is on. What is the connection?
It means that if you are somewhere where there is only wifi (and obviously no cell service), you can hotspot to all your devices from your phone, take calls and send SMS. That's something new since the update.

TMobile WiFi calling

How is everyone's WiFi calling? Mine is horrendous even though my wifi signal is good, both 2.4/5g. I have WiFi calling enabled as wifi preferred. Most of the time I look, it doesnt say "TMobile WiFi calling". I am missing calls, can't place calls, sms doesn't send. Aylt least not until it connects to wifi calling properly or randomly gets regular signal. 7t pro McLaren 5g, Sim unlocked, on tmobile, version 10.0.27.HD61B
My 7pro 5g from Sprint has better wifi calling after activating the feature via *#800# and force activating wifi calling and that's not even a TMobile phone.
Any known fixes? Is it the router (shouldn't be since my Sprint 5g works great with WiFi calling in TMobile.)

What kind of router and what ISP do you have? Also consider that, depending on your current location, your ISP could be prioritizing certain connections to accommodate for the HUGE increase in internet traffic.
Xfinity internet. Netgear r6220 router. Internet itself is fine. It does appear that my wifi calling mainly struggles here, at a different place it does work fine from what Ive noticed. Any settings I can change to improve this? Ipsec passthrough is on, went into traffic manager and set highest priority for my phone's Mac address, disabled random Mac address on phone.
on mint ,7t pro McLaren 5g, wifi calling none. first of 6 phones that didn't work. so google voice is it.
