GS7 Unstable. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

My Galaxy S7 (SM-G930V) Running Baseband APD2 on Android 6.0.1 Has had issues with Multiple Applications Constantly Crashing, On Nebulous it takes me back to the home screen randomly, and on youtube videos they randomly close. I've tried clearing the cache from the recovery and storage. I haven't rommed/rooted my phone either. Could anyone try explaining why this happens? Its super annoying because I just Transferred from a iPhone 5S. I have had the phone for about two months and this is a wonderful welcome back to android... I am trying to avoid a factory reset but it I have to I will, but I'd Prefer that that doesn't happen.

For the vast majority it is a problem free phone. Have you tried a factory reset? It is a pain, but usually clears up the weirdness.

I never find it too much of a pain for myself to do a factory reset. I use the Google Now launcher and it remembers the apps I have installed. So after a wipe, my apps will still be on all of my screens, but just black and white letting me know they haven't been installed yet. I don't install any apps onto my SD card, all of my contacts are backed up to Google, and all of my pictures and videos are stored on my SD.
Maybe you could set up the same just to have your apps reinstalled which is honestly the worst part? I would not recommend backing up the data of the apps due to not knowing what is exactly causing the problem, so do that at your own risk.

Same thoughts as here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67523356&postcount=16
Sometimes its an app that isn't properly supported by the developer or updated by the user that can cause other issues elsewhere.

After froyo update my phone has slow 30 sec delay moments. should i perform a reset?

After the froyo update my phone has slow 30 sec delay moments. doing anything from opening the camera to opening the Internet. sometime pausing when scrolling Internet or phone menus. that kind of thing.
should i perform a reset?
I looked in the phone and it has an option:
factory data reset?
and some options backup my data
automatic restore
I did a titanium backup but there are a lot of backed up things, but i suppose i could work my way through.
My questions:
do i need to perform some sort of reset?
What kind (hard soft there seems to be a few options )
and how do i do it?
What do the backup my data /autobackup options in settings do?
Many Thanks
wipe data, wipe cache
then restore only user apps
and maybe user data
do not restore system apps/data
if it still give you problem after a while
repeat and only restore user apps, with no user data
it might be the user data that has gone corrupted
a way to find out if that is the case is by reading the logs....
any DEV guru will know what to look for (not me)
I was told i had DB corruption in another occassion when we were debugging a new app, and after killing everything and only restoring apps, the phone was stable and the random bugs were gone after that
Cheers for the extra info.
How do wipe the data and cache again?
No need to wipe?
Hi,
May be worth a try, i recently had the same issue on my stock galaxy s running froyo, after trying many things i read on a website about the galaxy s not being great on apps2sd, well as i have about 60 apps, i decided to move them all back to the phone and straight away it was fixed!!!! it used to freeze when i woke the phone up for about 20 to 30 seconds and while browsing and now its back to normal, if you have apps on your micro sd card, you can check this issue by installing os monitor, when it freezes open the os monitor and it is kswap0d that is using 70% to 98% of cpu causing the lag, don't know why this happens but it was very frustrating!!!!! hope this helps you anyway.

Boot into Recovery Mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S_Series#Recovery_Mode
Then select the option to wipe data, also wipe cache
Cheers for the extra info. I had a look at your wiki yesterday. I liked the links to the stress testing videos. I guess I can't use a craft knife as a stylus .
Just few minutes ago. I installed OCLF (one click lag fix) from the android market and it seems to sort everything out. And quadrant benchmark test.
Is oclf safe?
People are saying that the way the galaxy s stores data causes problems, that oclf fixes.

Phone showing signs of DEATH...anything I can do to stop the inevitable??? (i9000m)

i900m - Bell Mobility running j4k 2.2. The phone has been ok till day 6 after upgrade to 2.2. I was using the phone, and it just randomly vibrated...though I hit something by accident, then 10 mins later...again.
Then i was using google maps, and it vibrates once, then 5 seconds later it vibrates 3 times quickly, and force closes google maps. I have been reading about force closes as being a sign of the 'end'...is there ANYTHING i can do to extend the life a little in case samsung comes out with a quick fix sometime soon? Please help...i'm paranoid now all the time
You can also try a factory reset/clear all caches and more (through recovery menu) and perhaps even flashing a new rom.
I've had problems with force closes after flashing roms as well at times, but these steps helped often (just be sure to backup apps and data because these steps will delete/remove them)
a forc close means problems?? i just bought like 1 week ago and have force closes everyday from launchers games and such.. does it mean my phone is defective?
Probably just a phone software corruption, perform a factor data reset then reflash with partition.. should clean/fix everything.
Clear the phone completly (full factory reset)
In dialer type *2767*3855#
If problems still persist, you will need to flash a new rom.

thats exactly what i'm afraid of: a factory reset.
From what i've been reading about the Bell internal sd issues is that a lot of people experienced the dead internal sd when they rebooted their phones (caught in endless loop)...i'm afraid of ever turning the thing off now!
If you don't turn it off it will eventually freeze.
Your screwed either way,
at least if you turn it off now you may have a chance of saving it.
Just backup all your apps, data and settings. I use Titanium Backup.

i've been experiencing a couple of vibrate and FC's lately, really mean its dying? or just a couple of FC's means the app crashed
Not entirely on topic but:
From my own experience, force closes really don't mean anything. In my mind, a FC is like a good old win 98 program crash, it just happens from time to time. I wouldn't read anything into it unless it starts happening on a regular basis to decent apps.
(And even then, spotify for ex. is notorious for FC-ing. It's annoying, but not something thats fixable)
programs that may help
I have a galaxy s2 too so far noprobs as i havent done much with it just rooted stock rom and making my mind with what rom to try but if you go in market and search for as previous reply titanium backup, superuser, rom manager and the best app for deleting apps root explorer. One of these programms come wit a fix permissions option may help.

[Q] Touchscreen Lockup?

This is the second Iconia tab I've had. Both the 32GB model from Costco, this one bought a few days ago.
Unlike the first, this one periodically locks up the touchscreen, until the tab is powered off and rebooted. Anyone else seeing this? I guess I'll wait to see if the 3.2 update clears it up, return it if not.
changes made
What apps or changes have you made.there are alot of issues with bad apps.most of the complaints found in this forum is due to a rouge app
GOOD LUCK
What she said.
Rogue apps can wreak all kinds of havoc with the system - kill wifi, cause instability and lock it up or randomly reboot it etc...
Before anything else, look to the applications you've installed - cut out the questionable apps (or reset the tab to start fresh) and only install from trusted sources -be aware, the Android Marketplace is still the wild west so some nasty things still get through there. Be vigilant.
if the issue persists with a fresh tab, no apps installed, take it back.
Thanks for suggestions
Yes, I think I will do a factory reset, and reinstall one at a time, carefully

S4 Constantly lagging

Hello,
I've had my Samsung Galaxy S4 for a number of years, since it came out actually, but I noticed within the last month, the phone has been lagging, A LOT.
The phone lags when I try to unlock it for use. I hit the home or power button and the screen quickly flashes on and goes off. I have to let it stay for a minute before it actually catches up with itself before I can unlock it and use it. Same when I try to lock it. I hit the power button and the screen freezes for a minute, and again, catches up with itself before locks and goes black.
It lags when I'm texting as well. The screen freezes and can't type anything, and again, have to let it stay for a bit before the phone catches up with itself.
Things to note or already tried:
-Factory reset. Issues still remains
-Photos, videos, music are all on the SD card (32gigs, 5gigs left of space)
-Internal memory card has 3.9 gigs of space left.
What could be causing this issue and how can I solve it??
Thanks!
I would suggest completely wiping the phone and internal storage, and then flash your current ROM with Odin.
If the problem persists, try a custom ROM.
I also heard from somebody that Facebook Messenger's chatheads make his phone lag.

pretty much to echo what @Pwnycorn says
pull SD card for testing;
factory reset and dont install any apps, just setup wizard.
check if lag persists.
install a few apps. does it occur yet? install more, try again, repeat
you'll track it down.

I heard custom ROMs are better and pretty much rid any problems that come with the phone. I just have no idea how to do it, as one tiny mistake and your phone is a brick.
I did turn off all animations. but I noticed since I changed keyboards to the Gboard (Google Keyboard) the phone's lag time has reduced significantly.
Only time it lags is when I switch to the default Messaging app.
Asides that, it works again. Strange how a keyboard can cause all this?

It's not necessarily the keyboard, it could be a certain update that went wrong.
And TouchWiz itself is a resource hog, ask anybody and they will tell you the same, except for TouchWiz fanboys.

Using Google Maps last night = Extremely sluggish?!

I used Google maps last night, as usual when going to a new place, but this time my phone was extremely sluggish and almost non-responsive to when trying to use other apps while Google Maps was in use. It was literally taking 10-20 seconds to open apps (stock and 3rd party) and even my music was stuttering sometimes.
On At&t
Latest firmware with October security patch
I restarted it, but had the same issue on the way home.
Anyone else have this issue, or know what could be causing it?

You could try clearing the cache for Google Maps and if that doesn't help try clearing both the cache and data for Google Maps.
If that doesn't help either hit all apps on your home screen and close all background apps.
I don't have AT&T firmware which is fairly heavily modded by AT&T but you could have some corrupt data in the Google Maps app (which clearing the app cache and data should fix) or an app running in the background that is using too much memory.
The latter shouldn't be a problem on a $1000 flagship phone but last week my unlocked S10+ issued a pop up warning that my device was running out of memory and that I needed to close running background apps to avoid performance problems.
Samsung's One UI has way more garbage running in the background than MIUI, EMUI, Oxygen or stock Android. Prior to the S10+ I haven't owned a Samsung phone since back in the Galaxy 3 days but the Galaxy and Note phones developed a bad reputation for slowing down and becoming sluggish after 6-12 months of use.
That might be what's happening to you.
If nothing else helps a complete factory reset of your device and fresh install of your apps (rather than from a Google Cloud Backup) should make your phone run like new again.
If it doesn't then you might be experiencing a hardware problem that requires service.
