P8 Lite softbricked. - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All, I tried to root my p8 lite manually By following this method:
1) Unlocked Bootlocker.
2) flashed the custom recovery image to install the root binary files With this the screen turned completely black)
3)typed ''adb push UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /su.zip''
4)typed ''adb shell /sbin/recovery –update_package=/su.zip''
5) used ''fastboot flash recovery stockrecovery.img''
After pushing SuperSU update, my phone turned on once. I tried to enable debug mode but it was greyed out.
Then I checked the root status and rootchecker said: ''Not properly rooted''. I still installed superSU and tried to update binary, but update failed and I had to reboot the phone. Since that time, the phone doesn't turn on. It keeps restarting for 2 or three times and then stops at black screen. I flashed cwm.img using fastboot and tried to solve the problem with ADB sideload but it didn't work.
I downloaded different Upgrades for my software and tried to Install them by placing thrm in dload of memory card, but that didn't work as well.
I have tried Most Of the methods available to solve this issue but Failed. I am in need of serious help here.

But for that TWRP is required as mentioned in the thread. Whenever I flash TWRP, my phone gets stuck at huawei logo so TWRP doesn't work on my phone.
Ok I executed the .bat file with my phone connected to PC in fastboot mode and it worked for me. Thanks a lot. Now need to root my device.

seems like your using the wrong TWRP.
your phone is a ALE-l21? isn't it? (settings -> about phone)
if so try using this twrp
unzip it and click the install file. make sure your phone is connected and usbdebugging is activated.
try to see what happens

Ok, so you wanna be on marshmallow of course...
First of all... you have to update to the latest build B564 to do this you have to have the original recovery (NO TWRP)
then if you're on b564 install twrp and flash zip 1 first with twrp
reboot and then flash zip 2
you should be rooted
You can copy the eu.chainfir.supersu-1 folder from data/app
to system/app if you like (rwx r-x r-x permissions)
and reboot again.
If you want the original recovery file tell me the build number that you're on and i will give you a link to the file.

Here are the details of my phone.
And also how am I supposed to upgrade my phone?
My phone's USB debugging option is still greyed out and can't be enabled.
I didn't use TWRP, I had CWM recovery but it was gone when I tried to unbrick my phone by downgrading.
Now when I press power button while holding vol up and vol down, there appears a setup saying Huawei software upgrading( This process reaches up to 90% and then stucks ).

this is because your phone was branded before you flashed (carrier lock. no big deal) where getting there
so the steps you need to do are simpel
this will cause a factory reset!!!
remember the flash zip i send you? it contains a file named cust.img
copy that one to your sd card or internal storage in a new folder that you name dload and rename the file to UPDATE.APP
(make sure it DOESN'T got the .img file extensions)
go to settings -> updater and press the menu button (at the bottom) then select "local update"
then select UPDATE.APP and wait until it finish and reboot
after taht it should say c432B056 and you can proceed to update.
MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE ROOT OR TWRP ISNTALLED.

I have TWRP right now so first I'll flash the recovery.img and then copy the cust file. Right?

which version are you on? i would recommend going to marshmallow first (b564)
if your stuck at b194 download b560 from here
and unzip it put it in your sd card in a folder named dload and do a local update.
after that you upgrade to the latest version (b564)
than you take the twrp zip and extract it on your pc
make sure your phone has usbdebugging enabled
connect your phone and grant your pc acces.
press the install file in the twrp folder and let it do it's thing.
copy zip 1 and zip2 to your sd card
boot into twrp (power device off and power it on while holding volume up and down pressed at the same time)
ignore the first message from twrp
choose install and go to your external sd card.
select zip1 and flash
reboot your phone.
after reboot power down your phone and boot into twrp again.
install zip 2
after that reboot and you're rooted
you can change the supersu app to your internal memory by getting a rootbrowser (es explorer)
go to /data/app
locate the eu.chainfire.supersu.1 folder
and place that into /system/app folder
give it the following permissions rwx r-x r-x (hold the folder until its selected then go to properties there you can change your permissions).

You're welcome mate!
One thing to keep in mind if you follow the PRFcreator tool route is that before you flash your device with your pre-rooted image, is that to go into system - Apps and then check for any apps that you have moved to your SD card. Move any apps that you have on the SD card back to Phone Memory before you boot to recovery and start flashing your phone. Once you done, you can move them back if you want to, to free up phone memory.
Don't worry, you have not lost your apps, only downside is when you scroll through all your pages and you see all those "app missing" icons, you have that WTF? moment
The reason for this is that after the upgrade, it doesn't see the apps any more when looking at your apps pages as if the SD card is missing. If you go to System - Apps and looking at all your installed apps, you will see they are still then. To fix the issue, simply move them back to phone memory.
...hope my explanation makes sense.

Doesnt work for me
Thats my way how to get the prerootet .264.
i flash the .402 and rootet it with easyrootool.
as i am later in twrp i choose my own prerootet .264, build it wit prfcreator, exactly how it should be.
after i have flashed the prerootet, no mater if i wipe cache + dalvik cache, when i want to reboot the system it says:
Root Access is missing/broken. Roo [..%] Time
- No
- Yes - Aplly root (/system/xbin/su)
- No
and no matter if i choose yes or no, after rebooting and updating the apps, there is no supersu or ndr utils to find.
dont know what the problem is
I have exact the same problem.

Before installing the XZDR on 4.4 copy/upload the prerooted zip on your phone. After you install the XZDR the phone will reboot; now you can proceed to install the prerooted zip, it will include SuperSU and recovery. The phone reboots to recovery so you can install the SuperSU .zip, but there is no need for that. All we need to install a prerooted .zip is the recovery. SuperSU will be after restarting the phone on the new software.

I did that, like, downgrade > root > install recovery > boot on recovery > install prerooted .264. BUT after restarting, superSU wasn't there and not even the recovery. As I said, before I boot after installed the 264, it showed me the message about root.
Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for this guide. However since I am not much into android I got one question. Will rooting my phone delete all the data I have on it? I set up my phone, installed all the programs and so on but I'd like to have rooted device cause I got used to use some apps on my previous rooted phone.
So:
Following this guide will erase everything or no(make it as factory reset)?
Thanks for reading and moreover thanks for your answer. Best wishes.

You can skip erase cache dalvic and just click reset. Everything will be as it was. The phone will have a ROOT, everything should work as expected.
Thanks. I will update you tomorrow with results.
Just so you know: "wipe cache/dalvik" does NOT do a factory reset and will not delete your apps/messages/whatever. There is a separate option in TWRP to do a factory reset (aka "full wipe").
Wipe cache/dalvik should always be safe to do, without any data loss. After you wipe cache/dalvik the next reboot will take long and you will see the "Android is updating ... Optimizing app x of y" screen. Other than that, there are no bad side effects to wipe cache/dalvik. On the contrary: it can sometimes solve problems if you have random random crashes or "app has stopped working" popups.

My mistake, I installed the root after changing the rom on a clean system.
The day after I made wipe again, but that from the menu and there is added whipe date, did not pay attention to it.
It turns out that doing wipe cache/dalvik is safe.
Thanks. Regards
Now you can do the OTA update
- For safety before you do OTA remove fingerprints from the security options.
- Remove the SD card (if inserted), insert the SIM card into the slot 1.
- Make OTA update.
-> not work. have only Sim1 inside.
says update.zip is not correct
I had a problem with the 08.06 update. I flashed the stock rom and the device was OK but than the PC didn't recognize anymore the device, so now I can't flash twrp or anything else. I tried to reinstall the drivers but nothing changed

The same thing happened to me on my Windows 8.1 after 31.5.16 OTA. Because on the other laptop I have Windows Vista I installed the drivers there and there did the last update.
For now, I did not have time to delve into my Win8.1, tried different drivers without success.
Write if you solve the problem.

Elephone changed something in the preloader, after flash with version from ROM 2016.03.15 (I use a second PC with Win Vista) everything works again on my Win8.
However, probably after the next OTA preloader again be changed. So I think that this is a temporary solution.

Try flash recovery from the last ROM. Write if it works, good luck.
If you're trying to flash the entire rom it should work but flashing OTA's to an older firmware version sometimes errors out as the firmware doesn't have the correct base... I.E. - you're missing essential services and files from the other OTA's missed .

***Edited: Important update*** Anyone managed to ROOT P10+ (VKY-AL00C00)?

Bootloader is open but TWRP is giving ERROR1 when trying to flash Root, and also is unable to mount any partition...
Any help from someone who managed?
***Important Update!*** I am almost sure the problem is with Huawei shipping the P10/P10Plus with different storage chips.
Myself unfortunately got the eMMC chip + LPDDR4 memory. This is why TWRP is unable to mount any partition since the .fstab is different.
I have a working TWRP I ported myself which I was able to rebrand with, root yet to be confirmed. If you need it PM me.
I strongly advise anyone trying to flash TWRP to check their storage chip first using adb command "ls /proc/fs/*".
If you get mmcblk your F******, SD or UFS you are good.
I have an AL00 (rebranded to L29) that I rooted without too much hassle. The key is NOT sliding the first screen in TWRP. You have to click the read only button and then flash the phh nocrypt root zip.
Thanks!

https://www.gizdev.com/root-huawei-p10-p10-plus-install-twrp/
If you follow this guide exactly, you'll be rooted without issues. (you can use their files, they work fine) Two things to watch for :
1. You absolutely cannot slide the first slider in TWRP to allow modifications. You have to click the read only button.
2. It will only work on a fresh install / fresh boot.img. If you've already allowed modifications within TWRP, you're stuck. You have to flash a new boot.img or completely re-install EMUI via update.zip or funkyhuawei.
Hope this helps
Thanks so much for your Info Goronok.
I got the same problem.. No possibility of a full root and system partition is write protected..
One question:
Is ist possible to do a factory reset out of the settings as well?
Or do we have to go for the funkyhuawei method?
How can i update.zip the system if its not possible to make a dload folder in the root folder on system partition?
Can someone uplad the boot.img for VKY-L09C432B130, if that will save the problem too... ?
Ok that wasnt one, that were 4 questions.. but thanks so much in advance
Kind Regards

1. No factory reset within the device will help you once you've swiped to allow modifications within TWRP.
2. I did funkyhuawei, so it's the only thing I can speak to. This method will absolutely work assuming you dont mind spending a few dollars and have a router where you can specify DNS.
3. update.zip should (in theory) work from sdcard, though I have not personally tried it. I think most of the people mentioning this method are coming from a P9/Mate9, which does things a little differently.
4. I have not seen a link for VKY-B130 yet, but here is one for B124. The boot.img here should work just the same... http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1475/g104/v82453/f2/full/update.zip
can't figure out what is wrong
First time I tried to root I did slide the "allow modifications"...
I reinstalled stock twice with FunkyHuawei but still can't get TWRP to work.
It seems it doesn't have access to any partition.
Phone boots normally though...
Any ideas?

Hey Mosquito, i guess we both have the same kinda Problem.
I will do the following steps today and let you guys know, if and how it worked out.
The only problem is, im not at home right now, so i dont have access to a router where i can change the DNS. So no FunkyHuawei method for me.
I will do the following steps today:
1. Donwloading the VKY-L09C432B130 jus now. Trying to flash the original boot.img and do the TWRP and root again, WITHOUT swping the TWRP allow modifications slider
2. If No 1 doesnt work i will copy the download update.app, will create a dload folder on my external sd card and copy update.app in it. Then trzing to freshly install the downloaded firmware.
3. If there is somehow a failure or any error with the automated update i will factory reset the phone via settings and then see whtats going on.
I hope everything will work out fine, even without the possibility of FunkyHuawei Reset.
Keep in mind that there are two types of TWRP online available for the P10Plus Version 3.0.2.2 and version 3.1.0.0.. maybe the root works different with the different TWRPs. At this moment im not quite sure which one i use.. probably the one from gizdev, what Goronok told us to use.
I keep you up to date whats going on!
Thanks guys

I already did everything you wrote, still no go.
Please update me if you get a different result.
Tried both TWRP versions.
What firmware you had at first?
I have bought my phone 10 days ago.
From T-Mobile Germany.
VKY-L09 6GB Version, Single Sim i guess.
Not sure what Firmware i had when i bought it, cause I immediately tried to root after buying, without checking the FW Version.
But I did a FunkyHuawei Restore before with VKY-L09C432B130 Firmware and it worked.
Only the Full Root is the Problem right now.. damnit.
I Will try everything and let you know.
Later!

Start the Huaweiextractor exe and unpack the boot.img.
Start your phone into bootloader
Flash boot.img (of your original firmware, the one u unpacked just now) to your phone via fastboot flash boot bot.img
Then start your TWRP Recovery
Clear Cache/Dalvik
then install the SuperRoot_noverity_nocrypt, this time you wont get a error
then wipe cache/Dalvik
reboot

Dennis,
Can you please check for me if TWRP mounts partitions correctly for you?
I suspect the problem for me is incompatibility of the available TWRP with the Chinese version, or some sort of data encryption embedded.

Accidentally deleted OS - how to fix?

Today, I installed TWRP and rooted my device. I tried to install Xposed but I couldn't get passed the logo screen after rebooting. To try and fix this I did an advanced wipe and got rid of everything...
I know this was very stupid! TWRP is telling me there is no OS if I try to reboot. Is there a ROM I can install to fix this? I was on the stock MM rom and have L31 version.

I made the same mistake at some point, but managed to get it back up and running.
Download the correct version of "update.zip" for your phone.
In my case it is a L31C432 so I looked for a file called something like VNS-L31C432B160 (stock MM).
Download this (EU version) (if you have a L31C432)
Once the download is completed, rename the downloaded file to "update.zip".
While in Recovery on your phone, and it's connected to your pc, copy the "update.zip" to either the phone's internal memory or the sdcard (doesn't matter).
Grab your phone and go into "Install" in your recovery and find your "update.zip" file.
Slide and let it install it.
Once done, reboot.
Viola!

Restore Mate 9 Pro that doesn't boot up? Please help

I wanted to root the phone, unlocked the bootloader but flashed incorrect TWRP version and it didn't see SuperSU zip file in the memory. Then I decided to give it up, lock the bootloader back and bring the phone to its initial genuine state. However, the "3-button flash method" didn't work. I downloaded FullOTA zip of B225C636 firmware, unzipped it and moved "UPDATE.APP" file to dload folder in the phone. After using the "3-button method" the phone said "Installation package doesn't exist". Then I made a factory reset from phone settings... and got a non-booting device. It goes to eRecovery which asks me if I want to get an update via Wi-Fi but finds nothing. I entered fastboot mode and flashed boot.img, recovery.img and system.img via ADB Run but nothing changed. So now I can only enter fastvoot or eRecovery. How can I restore the phone? Please help, I understand it's all my fault but I am a newbie with Huawei devices as I was using Samsung where it was much easier before.

Thanks, I tried to flash stock recovery back via ADB Run but it didn't work. The phone was still rebooting into eRecovery partition asking to update via Wi-Fi.
I solved the problem in other way, by setting appropriate DNS in the DHCP section on my Wi-Fi router and then pulling clean B225C636 FullOTA to update server with PC version of Huawei Firmware Finder. Then booted into eRecovery and the process started. After flashing I got my stock recovery back and performed wipe data/factory reset. Now the phone works normally with a locked bootloader as I wanted.

Hi there,
1) Firstly, you need to install the desktop version of Firmware Finder (download here).
2) Then go to the admin panel of your router, enter DHCP section and put 81.177.139.39 as primary and secondary DNS. Write down your original DNS (if any) to restore it later. Make sure that DHCP is enabled.
3) Run Firmware Finder. Open "Common base" tab, enter your model into search window and copy the link for the desired firmware from "Changelog" (see below). You should select the FullOTA version.

4) Click the round button with a cloud on top of Firmware Finder to open ProxyServer window. Paste the URL you've copied from changelog to this window, click "Set" and then "Register for update" (see below).
5) Reboot your phone to stock eRecovery and connect to your Wi-Fi network. The download and installation should start now.
If the phone is stuck on boot logo after completion, boot into standard Recovery (VolUp + Power) and tap "Wipe data/factory reset". Now the phone should boot up.
Don't forget to restore the DNS in your router's settings.
Hope that helps!

Hi there,
I managed to find another thread that give me the same instructions as you did. But no matter what i do i keep getting package info failed.
I've also paid for funkyhuawei and get the same issue. I know my DNS is correct but dont know why it still fails.
Ideas?

Hmm... Looks strange. This is my first Huawei and I didn't face up with the issue you've described so I can't even figure out the reason... I'd like to know what's the problem with your phone too. Which version and region did you choose in FF? Huawei deletes some of them after a while. Also, maybe there are some ports/services blocked by your inet provider or router?

i have a chinese lon-al00, trying to go to l29
i made the mistake of restoring a oeminfo file for a MHA-L29C636 then tried flashing a update.app via dload - realised it didnt work because i put the dload on a usb with OTG connection instead of a ext/int sd (mate 9 pro dosnt have sd)
Then all of a sudden i lost TWRP, FRP and PHONE is now locked.
Cant boot into system, can only access erecovery and stock recovery dosnt exist anymore.
sighs

Oh, you may have corrupted some system data. MHA-L29 is the usual Mate 9, not Pro, and FF seems not to recognize the device you need to restore properly. Maybe you should consider giving the phone to service...

if i could just get twrp on the phone again i could restore the oeminfo i backed up from the original phone. But fastboot wont let me unlock the phone with the original code.

As far as I know, the bootloader unlock code is unique and is stored in "nvme" file located in /dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/. Maybe that file was corrupted too or OEM unlock in developer options has gone off.
P.S. The dload (3 buttons) method doesn't work on Android 7 and above. It doesn't matter if you use internal memory or OTG, it will fail eventually. That was one of my mistakes that led to bricking the phone. Never try that again.

ok i managed to get some progress.
I ended up using firmware finder to flash a mha firmware onto my lon phone because i had installed a mha oeminfo.
Im hoping once this works i can somehow flash twrp and restore the original oem i have.
I just hope it will let me unlock the BL. Will report back in a hour or two.
