Moto X Play vs Moto G4 Plus, still worth buying? - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I noticed that now that the G4 Plus has 3000mah battery and snapdragon 615 (and similar prices) I was wondering if it's still worth it getting this X Play mainly for battery life.
Is it possible that the newer processor with better software optimization gets the same experience for the battery life even though the X Play has more raw juice?

My take is you won't get as good battery backup but should still get a full day's usage without much problems. Same cores, built on same process cloked a bit differently.
Only reasons I see for getting g4 plus is dual bandwidth faster memory, more storage (depending what play model u get), better camera in some situations and fingerprint scanner (if that's of importance to you)
Thinner and more lightweight, and barely wider or longer..
Not sure but I think it may have gyro sensor As well (g4 plus)

A guy in a german forum said the g4 plus "camera" is not far as good as the x Play one and he stays at his x Play

No NFC is a dealbreaker anyway for me

What about G4 non plus?
If the soc is only 10% more powerful and using the same architecture then I don't think the battery life with be comparable, X Play with 600mah more will beat it.

X Play is pre-Lenovo, just saying…

Moto G4 Plus vs Lenovo Z2 Plus [URGENT]

Hello Everyone,
I bought a Moto G4 Plus a few months back but returned it as it was defective. Now I will be ordering another phone tomorrow, but now I am confused between two - Moto G4 Plus and Lenovo Z2 Plus( Zuk Z2), I feel that Z2 Plus is better in all aspects except the camera. Can someone please tell me how is the Camera of Moto G4 plus and if possible please compare it with the Z2 plus.
Also, if possible please suggest which phone should I buy.
Specs -
Z2 Plus - Snapdragon 820, 3500 Mah battery, 13MP camera(No OIS), 3GB RAM

Sounds like you'd be trading more performance for a better camera if you went with the G4. It's kinda up to you with what's more important.

Camera is a priority but performance stands higher.
But the Z2 also costs 50$ more so I can't decide.

Should I buy the G4 Plus now or wait until the G5 Plus is released ?

Hi, I currently have a Moto G (2014) and I want to change my phone.
I don't know if I should wait for the moto G5 (I don't know the release date) or buy the G4 now.
I heard that it will be not much better than the G4 anyway ?
Also another question , how's the x265(1080p) decoding on Moto G4 ? Most of my video files are encoded in x265..
G5 images was fake... Go for g4 plus

I havent had any problems with G4+. I dont play many games and I dont record long videos so I havent had any heat issues. I bought 64gb for $250 on Swappa.
I unlocked bootloader, Seamless root without any hiccups. Great device for me.
I dont think the Moto G series will get much better than the current Moto G4+ for a year or two.
PS I also have Moto G3 2015 as my oops phone. There is an advantage with Moto G4+.
Unless I'm mistaken it's the same hardware just with a fingerprint sensor and more storage options. I have the regular G4 and like it and wouldn't use the fingerprint anyways. If you want more storage it's probably cheaper to get like a 32-64gb as card for cheaper than the price difference of buying the other phone model. Just my opinion.
Go for Moto G4 plus now !
Go for G4+ as the G5 news cannot be relied upon. Also, your G(2014) is way too old, if you wanna change your phone, G4+ would be best so far in that price range. Waiting for G5 at this stage will make you halt for atleast a year-and-half from now, and would not contain much of the "GREATER" changes. As for codec support, the device (G4+) works perfectly fine with the x265(1080p) decoding. In fact it works brilliant with all codecs.
Wait for REDMI 4 PRIME ( Snapdragon 625, 4000mAh battery,3GB RAm,32 gb internal, fingerprint scanner), all under 15K!!!!!
Its rumoured to launch in India in Jan/Feb.
I would hold my horses and wait for its launch,Snapdragon 617 is one of the worst performing Soc ever(I didn't forgot Snapdragon 810 v2.1)
PS: I have nothing against g4 plus except that mediocre processor used by Moto to save cost!! I recommended my sister to buy moto g4 plus, it's an excellent camera phone under 15K,if not the best budget phone.

The phone throttles very soon and is not good basic functionality like recording FHD videos as the frame drops starts to occur and is even present in the saved video file. Also not good for gaming more than 30min!!!!!!

Xperia XA1 vs Moto G5 Plus showdown

Hi. I'm on the hunt for my a new phone to replace my ageing Galaxy S5 Neo. I chose these two phones as they are within my budget and on the same price range.
Am i correct in saying the Helio P20 is better than the Snapdragon 625 in terms of battery life and a more "balanced" performance?
Does the speakers on the XA1 be sufficient enough on a London bus or a partly crowded high street?
Is it true the XA1's camera came from or derived from the older Z5 but with slightly better optics & optimization?
And would you guys (still) think Sony is better in terms of pushing updates especially monthly security updates, bug fixes, etc.?
Would love to hear your thoughts & advice please.
For screen and battery g5+. Camera overall and build sony.. i personally like the g5+, + it has a fp scanner and fhd screen and it shows the difference but processing whise Sony's p20 is better.. games are better on g5 bcz of the adreno. And the g5 supports 5ghz wifi but he sony has the better build.. i'm in the same dilemma and i think I'll opt for the g5 (non+) bcz of fp scanner and fhd . Daily use is the same in terms of processing and the camera well.. i can do with 13. And the 12 on the 5+is on par with sony. Updates are better on moto and more often and sooner. Speakers ar low on both but still enough. Hope it helps.
Are you certain Moto has faster updates? Ever since Lenovo took over the updates have become very slow & scarce. And that's the truth. Ask anyone and they will tell you.
I'm also concerned with the G5 Plus not having USB Type-C, No waterproofing, No any form of image stabilisation on camera and no Cat-6 4G LTE speeds. Obviously the first three maybe because of money-saving exercise or perhaps backward thinking as well?

Moto G5 Plus vs Xperia XA1 fight

Hi. I'm on the hunt for my a new phone to replace my ageing Galaxy S5 Neo. I chose these two phones as they are within my budget and on the same price range.
Read that the Snapdragon 625 is slightly worse than the Helio P20 in terms of battery life and performance?
The speakers on the G5 Plus seem large but is sufficient enough on a London bus or a partly crowded high street than the XA1?
Is it true the G5 Plus' camera is similar to that of the Galaxy S7? Photo sample I have seen so far suggest a bland/low contrasty photo (Auto mode) and no video stabilisation?
And would you guys (still) think Sony is better in terms of pushing updates especially monthly security updates, bug fixes, etc.? Lenovo has been remise and negligent in updating the Moto lineup since acquisition. True?
Would the G5 Plus struggle with location apps such as Google Maps or City Mapper coz it has no compass or magnetometer?
"Splash resistant" body meaning is the phone safe when exposed to light rain or a drop of a glass of water?
Would love to hear your thoughts & advice please.
Short answer: I'd ask you to go with the Moto G5+ instead of the XA1.
Elaborate answer based on your queries:
1. SD 625 is the best processor currently available in the market with an excellent balance between battery and performance. I'm a daily user of G5+, i use it for Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Music, Gaming daily and not one day has passed when i had to charge it twice. Average SOT ranges between 6 and 7 hours, never below it. No stutters in day to day tasks, heats up only while charging, coming from SD801, this is a very surprising SoC, it performs as well in gaming, better in heat management and battery, and as good in performance if not better.
2. Don't know about XA1's speakers, but the speakers on G5+ are a bit disappointment. They are not loud enough for me, coming from a OnePlus One, however their front placement is a plus though don't expect to hear it in a very crowded setting.
3. Camera doesn't compare to S7 in ANY respect. If you expect this to perform as well as S7 please don't get this phone. It's nowhere near to it. However for the price, i don't think you'll find a better camera. It's great for social media needs, very good for good lighting conditions, average for low lighting. Video has EIS, so they are less shaky however lack of OIS hurts.
4. Regarding updates, Sony pushes out fast updates to its flagships, not that fast to midrangers. Moto on the other hand pushes out major updates fairly quickly though not as fast as they used to be, they are still comparable to other brands. Yes, Lenovo acquisition has made the software scene worse, but i guess it still is better than Sony's.
5. Regarding navigation, its top notch and lack of compass hurts only if you have no data or network signal. Otherwise it performs as well as any other phone, if you have decent data connection.
6. Yes, splash resistant means slight water exposure is fine. Just don't take it swimming with you.
Hope this helped
Many thanks the reply. But I would like to make some statements too.
According to http://www.specout.com/ the SD625 (of the G5 Plus) has a lower performing CPU than the XA1's Helio P20; the fact that the latter is newer and built on a newer 18nm process makes it better for battery life and a balanced performance. Agree or not?
You mentioned no stutters but you did not mentioned that with "only" 3GB of RAM (the only option here in the UK) the apps would load instantly using the multitasking pane? (Videos I have seen suggests apps in the background load up slowly. I could be wrong)
Re the speakers would you say they are better if not the same as last year's model?
Re the camera 9 out of 10 the video review I've seen so far makes the photos (& videos) looks dull, bland & lacking colour/contrast. Average low light doesn't sound encouraging to me. I don't know if it is because how the video was uploaded onto YT but so far it paints a not-so rosy picture. And you also mentioned the camera has EIS but only at 1080p at 30fps? True?
Is the storage based off eMMC or UFS standard?
I made a quick survey on Twitter and all who voted said Sony is faster in updates. But would you say Moto is still faster overall? Having no monthly security updates doesn't sound fast to me. And sometimes updates can be slightly faster in one region, slower in others. So, what is it really?
I still think having a compass would make a difference albeit incremental when using location services such as Google Maps, Weather or City Mapper or looking for an ATM or restaurant in a foreign city. A good network reception is not a guarantee (even here in London though most of the times it is very good) and having that extra piece of hardware will be a big bonus.
Re the nano coating if say i accidentally spill a glass of water or soda or dropped it into the sink for a few seconds or using my phone calling someone whilst it is raining would you say my phone won't get water damaged? (I always believe this nano coating is a half-hearted / money saving exercise as ports such the mic, USB charging port, headphone jack, speakers are prone to water. And when the water indicators have shown it Moto won't replace your device. That's how i see it.
From what I'm reading, you want the Xperia.
Go for it.
Sony is good with updates while Moto has been lazy lately. If you are concerned about updates and security, then Sony would be better but all depends on your requirements

Both phones suit my requirements in one way or the other. But as a "precaution" it would be nice if a phone has a compass or magnetometer (which the G5 Plus doesn't have) , Cat-6 4G LTE (which both the XA1 and G5 Plus have) and nano coating for protection against minor water spills (which G5 Plus offers).
The XA1 is considered a mid-range phone which I heard Sony is quite slow in updating (apart from their higher mid-range or flagship models) whilst the Moto G5 Plus is also a mid-range phone but Lenovo has been slow to update lately.
So....which one?
Hi OP, which one did you get buying? I'm facing the same dilemma..

I am also facing the same issue. But i am favouring the G5 plus.
Go for the xa1 plus instead. Humongous battery, fingerprint sensor, louder speakers, fantastic camera, slightly lower performance than flagships. Only drwaback is it's plastic though but still it's a 10 out of 10 appreance wise

Z play still best against the new Z2!

Guys, don't worry for your device(Z Play) because of the newer Z2 play.
The performance is better in z play even though specs are higher in Z2.
Z2 play only has some newer features and a slimmer look:
Fingerprint gestures
Voice Command
Night light mode
Only best in it is improved Camera and slimmer look.
According to the Verge Z2 play performance isn't good as our Z Play.
(See the image attached below)
Also see CNet review: (see image attached below)
Cheers!!
By performance I hope you meant battery performance. Cause Z2 is better than Z in everything else, apart from price

I don't see the upgrade being worth it. I love the 625, would love a626, but it's kind of worse than oneplus 3 versus op3t..
At least oneplus went 3000mah battery, sd 820 to 3400 mah sd 821 and DOUBLED the mp of the selfie cam..Here we get a smaller battery, a marginally better camera and processor... I'll be keeping my z play as well brother. I might look at the z2 droid when it lowers in price though if it has a headphone jack.. Otherwise I'll keep my 9hr+ heavy use sot. ???

Hehe yea!
I got my play on the day that the announcement of the new mk2 was made.
The biggest issue is the slimming down of the battery i think...
The ones that wanted the slimmer size phone got the regular Z so why was there even a need to slim down the play ?
Especially since the bigger battery is a very good USP for the play...
How else would motorola get people to buy battery mods for Moto Z2 Play.
Clearly Moto thought the battery was "too good" marketing and bean counters only wanted to make sure it lasted ONE day not two... lol
