Software update status - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hello,
Are there any HTC insiders that can share when a software update is coming to Sprint users and which version is being tested?
Thank you all in advance for your insight and assistance.

I was just about to ask the same thing.. I'm interested in the updates to the camera.. I really haven't had issues with anything else so far.. and the camera has worked well for me , I only use it casually but I have noticed it struggling to focus at times primarily in low light situations...

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm with you that the camera needs some software work. Point and shoot focus struggles in low light and scrolling is jittery on a lot of apps Chrome, FB, Twitter etc. The rest of the world has had updates, but I think the fixes are not working out yet.

No problem. Ive seen some reviews on YouTube stating that camera is much improved after the updates .. I'm sure it'll be much better after we get the update.. at least for the casual user.. those who go more in depth with the camera might still find something to point out... but overall I'm very pleased with this device.. hope you're enjoying yours.

Is the jitter only in a few apps? I don't have that issue, all three scroll fast and smooth. If it is only in a few apps, sounds more like it is an app issue. Camera is so much better than any HTC phone yet. Low light photos are pretty good as well. Understandable focus is going to be a little slower. Even my DSLR camera is slower in low light with a external flash. Updates will come out when they are ready, really just have to sit back and wait. I for one don't want a rush job update.

For my experience it's generally web browsing, FB, TWITTER. and Instagram. These are generally slight and like you mentioned maybe the apps or maybe optimization.. But my M9 is still winning with app loading and smoothness.
Camera - The camera had an issue with point and shoot low light where it tries to focus forever. At first I thought my lens or laser, but both were clean. [emoji15] After I closed it the camera app, it still focused forever. Once I tap to focus then it focuses. Weird...
Also outdoor gets a little overblown from sunlight. Sure I agree with you this new camera is better then old one , but not 10 caliber IMHO. [emoji111] and old one sucked very bad in low light. This should be better because they put the right hw in it.
The update has already been produced. Any update on a new phone is good, why wait...

Any noticeable improvements with the new software??

Got my update. Wifi still sucks. I thought this was suppose to be fixed.

I'll update when I get home and report back. I'm running Viper10 1.6.0 with the ported ElementalX kernel. Hopefully, it'll still work fine, I'd anything I can upgrade to Viper 2.1.0.

Only way to get it is wait until it comes as an OTA?

I'm running stock firmware, rooted, s-off. If I take the update will it break root?

Just flash the modified firmware from the Firmware thread. You will not lose root.

A full 24 hours after getting the Z, pleasantly surprised.

Moving from an iPhone5... The last time I moved from iOS to Android was the 4 to the Dell Streak and that was a decision I had regretted severely. When I first heard of the Z and watched YouTube videos, I thought this was too good to be true. A 5inch 1080p screen running the (almost) latest firmware, beautiful hardware and also waterproof? And then I heard about the mediocre battery and the washed out screen. But it was too late to back out by then and I got my Z about 24 hours ago.
Battery life is actually surprisingly good. Granted, I am on Stamina mode with only whatsapp on the whitelist but that's all I really need. It's not like I am sacrificing anything. I hardly get Facebook notifications and I don't think there is push notifications for Twitter on Android yet (correct me if I'm wrong). Unplugged at 8.30pm last night and at 3.30pm today, it's at 9% and this is with heavy whatsapping, app installs, browsing, some calls, some pictures and a few minutes of videos too. I honestly don't think my jailbroken 5 could have lasted this long.
The software itself, was OK. Installed Nova Launcher Prime with a nice theme and a beautiful widgets widget and the phone looks amazing right now and not to mention fast. Still discovering new apps and the whole experience is such a refreshing change from the stale iOS.
One weird problem I have is that the phone doesn't charge or charges at an extremely slow pace when connected to the PC. Don't know what can be the issue here.
Things I hope to get soon : Better lockscreen notifications, namely for whatsapp (Sure a third party app could do this, finding for one though), screen calibration software from Sony and stable CM, hopefully with BE included.
All in all, I love the Xperia and am extremely glad I had made the jump. Let's see how it handles the week.

You can download "Notify me" on Google play for the whatsapp notifications. And somewhere in whatsapp settings you can enable the popups. Don't remember where though.

I think it's normal that the phone charges slowly when connected to a pc. The usb bus can't give a high enough current to charge fast.

I understand why people choose a different launcher to stock. All the transparency used causes glitches and stutters here and there but each time I change it, I find myself quickly returning that I've given up. No launcher in my opinion suits the phone more than the stock launcher.
Glad you're loving the phone, I am too.

How did you get the 4g LTE icon to go away when on WiFi?
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk 4
I had a Galaxy nexus LTE before this so I learned a few battery saving techniques, I used NFC task launcher to shut off my mobile data when I connect to my home wifi and to turn it back on when I disconnect from it. it also sets my screen brightness and some other useful settings. When root is obtained you can also use Grrenify to shut down apps that are not in use to increase performance and battery life. On my Gnex I was getting over 24 hours of use with those 2 cheats and it was wonderful.
Low light comparison
Guess which one is the Nexus LTE and which is the Droid Ultra Maxx

Hopefully #2 (the brighter one) is from the Maxx. If not, then I'll deem this camera an even stronger fail than it already is! Awesome device, I just can't believe Moto dropped the ball on the camera yet again, after years of complaints vs other OEMs.

It's not, at all... if you're standing still in bright sunlight and have time to make sure it focuses, and the subject isn't moving, it can do pretty good. Anything else and it's well below par. And you might be able to access it quickly and easily and snap a shot easily, but the shutter is often slow it's just the same old same old Motorola camera.
The slow-mo video is pretty cool, but I have yet to find any practical use for that, or any use at all honestly. But it works well...

I took the title of the thread wrong. After seeing you wanted pictures taken with my Ultra I struggled to find anything worthwhile. It really is quite a poor camera. Always noisy, even in decent lighting, blown out whites, faded colors. Bleh.
Instead, enjoy these lovely shots taken in pretty low light from my Note 2, of my Ultra

Yep, no secret story or anything. They've come out with a handful of employee edition phones for us that we get with some additional accessories. Most phones VZW launches don't have employee edition ones, though.

The problem is so comically bad and the hardware for the camera is a known good quantity, I have to agree on this being a software problem.
Here are a few shots I took with my Maxx at a lake near where I live. I don't think they turned out too bad.

I'm not sure if I fully agree - not trying to be snarky or anything. The table shots look nice but pretty dark, until that last one, which is odd? But maybe that's how they're supposed to look (dark, that is).
The first chair shot has a similar slightly washed out "hazy" look to it, same as the normal camera shots - at least from my perspective.

I hope you're right, but I fear it's a combination - when shooting videos, both regular and slow motion, if it's well-lit and someone has on a white shirt, that white shirt has a haze or glow around it, which makes me think (thanks to some input from those that know more than me) it's also an issue with the optics they're using.

You're right - they're not bad. I have some decent shots outdoors as well. But when you compare them to other current phones, a couple those will look cold and a bit 'hazy'.
The thing is, despite it's shortcomings, the simplicity and usability of the camera is kinda growing on me... I really like the gestures and simplicity of the UI.

Lg2 camera settings

What have you guys found is the best camera settings for non outdoor sunny settings)- auto, normal, auto flash, sports? Night?

I wish. It's to the point where I'm ready for a new phone already. The camera is a joke on this phone, unless you are taking landscape still photos. Anything with motion and you have no chance.

Yeah I found this out very quickly when trying to take pictures of my little nephew running around the place. Not one usable pic of about 25 I took, very disappointing.
On a related note I presume once the viewfinder boxes go green that means it has focused?

I guess I am not sure what everyone expects? To me, I am amazed I get the quality I see from a phone. This is far better than the Motorola we have in the house, an S3 and bionic, and far better than my Galaxy Nexus. I am pleased. Of course I suck at photography. It is also as good as my Nikon point and shoot digital camera though it is getting dated.

I guess i am expecting a little better with moving subjects as they really push that in this commercial - i am getting nothing like this. Most of mine are like the ones they show "other" cameras doing. I dont do any special settings - and i get same results no matter if i am in iA Mode or not.

Initially I found the LG G2 camera very disappointing, but ever since I flashed the modded one, my results have improved dramatically.
Yes, you have to be rooted, but at least this proves that it's a software issue, not a hardware issue!
Cheers!
i just use stock and it works great every time
For sue LG G2 camera is really good, far better than my previous SGS3, BUT also for sure as soon as sun is not here (inside for example), you cannot ake sharp picture of moving things (children...)

I did. Maybe a little better battery life than BNF2. I noticed that it charges up to 95% and then stops charging. I'm going to take the battery down all the way then recharge see if that has any effect. Other than that, I haven't noticed any difference.

Well, at first when I got my tablet it didn't charge to 100% either. But since I depleted the battery everything has been fine.

I updated mine. My wifi issues are now gone. Thank goodness. I got a new kid mode, got multi user mode, and it uped my antutu x score almost 1000 points. It did however stopped all my apps from changing anything on the sd card. That includes moving stuff there or to the internal storage. I did get the stock filemanger to do it but none if my dowloaded apps work. So mx player won't delete movies or change names, my file manger that I had been busing no longer works with the sd card and so on. Not a big deal since the stock samsung apps still have the ability. I did have to turn of the device and turn it back on after the update to get that to work though. Not that much of a big deal

My GTP 8.4 is running ND3 and when I check for software updates, it says I'm running the latest. What happened to NE3? Did they pull it?

I'm at 7:30 into depleting the battery. Heavy use and leaving the screen on and I'm only down to 57%. At this rate, I will wear out before the battery. I can definitely say that BNF3 has much better battery life than BNF2 did.

Wow.. That's great news ! I will definately do the firmware update then. This and the resolved Wifi issue are worth it.
Anyone try the below firmware?
Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 SM-T320 KOO T320KXU1ANF2 Android 4.4.2 23.06.2014 2015017
Also anyone know what KOO means what happens when you install it since all the sites say Region unknown.
I just updated this morning to NF3. Don't know what it did but everything is working like it's supposed to

Tmobile variant

Just got my priv today. Have had it for about three hours. Like it so far. Always have been a BlackBerry fanboy. But since android, I made the switch and never looked back. This device seems to be the perfect mix. So far so good!

T-mobile variant - You already got T-Mobile's version of PRIV?
Yeah, walked in to the store and sales rep says "We just got 2 delivered a few mins ago. But they don't go on sale until tomorrow, eh what the heck. You want one now?"

I called T-Mobile couple of days ago and tech told me that "theoretically" unlocked PRIV on T-Mobile's network may also get AAD442 update that you got. I am currently on AAD250 with January security patch. Hope that this updates will also be available for factory unlocked PRIV devices because T-Mobile fixed couple of issue contained here: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-24554
I'm thinking of getting one today I'm a little worried about some of the negative reviews I've read. Currently have a 6 edge plus but want something different I'm tired of samsung
I've had almost every device out there except the new LG. As you know, devices are all based on personal preference. You need to determine what your highest priority is and then go from there. My top priority is battery strength. I am on the road in and out of meetings, so it is hard for me to charge during the day. I still haven't found a great great device in that regard. My next priority is the camera to take pictures of my kids. So far, the BlackBerry in the almost 24 hours that I've had it, has been great in both respects. My last device, the Nexus 6P, camera was not very impressive. Although, with marshmallow, the battery on the 6P is really good. But the Priv has lived up to all of the hype thus far. Feel free to ask any questions or a comparison of any device, as I mentioned I have had most all of the flagship devices.
Pick one up at t-mobile today as well. Miss having a fingerprint reader. The pkb is better then I expected according to reviews. I know battery life will get better.
After wanting to check one out for a while I was able to play with one at a t-mobile store. I ended up buying one, there said they only had 2 in stock so I said what the hell. I am impressed by the build quality and am getting used to a physical keyboard again. I need to dig deeper into the blackberry specific features to really get the most of it but my initial impression is positive.

PKB - Physical keyboard
I picked up a Private from TMo yesterday as well. I'm impressed so far, I really missed the physical keyboard from my old BlackBerry days. Only complaint so far is the bloat ware.

I just ordered one B&H I figured the unlocked should be the same as the tmobile variant and this was I saved a ton in taxes. I have the S6 edge now but have been with Samsung since the nexus. But I missed the good old blackberry keyboard. I tried in an att store b/c no one else had one on display. I did think the old bb keyboards were better. Can't wait till tomorrow.

With no root in sight, I went in and just disabled all the TMo apps. There are 4 I believe. Really boosted my battery life. I went from about 5-6 hours to 11-12 hours, both with moderate use. So if your having battery issues, give it a try. Oh and my phone no longer gets hot either.

Disabling all the bloatware was the first thing I did because I noticed a major drain with the Tmobile app.
As for having a fingerprint scanner for that quick unlock of the device... I haven't really missed it since I have an android wear watch. Smart lock has easily been my favorite feature of lollipop and on... so easy to stay mostly secure and be able to quickly unlock my device all throughout the day. I would highly suggest one for this reason!
