Sprint version, static GPS icon - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Quick question:
I have the Sprint version. I've noticed a GPS icon that doesn't seem to go away from the status bar. I've searched around and found that all other published screenshots on forum/blogs etc (would be on the GSM version) do NOT have this icon. It will get crossed out if I turn off Location services, but will not go away.
Anyone have ideas for how to remove these? I'd prefer not to Root, but will if necessary. I know you can root-->xposed to modify these icons. Just trying to make sure I'm not missing a menu somewhere that lets us turn these off (BT, NFC, GPS icon)
Thanks in advance -

This must be your first Sprint HTC phone. That is called reticle icon for location. To remove it completely you need to install a custom ROM like Badboyz. It is removed by default.

It's been a while. I had the M7. I get a new phone about every 6mo. I'm mostly a Nexus fan, but when new good devices come along, I like using them for a while. That circle (along with the NFC and BT icons) are essentially worthless. Wish they'd enable the System UI tuner from Marshmallow and allow us to turn those icons off.
Not sure I want to root/ROM just yet. I'll probably wait a bit. Thanks for the reply.

Hide icons in status bar

Is it possible to remove any of the default icons from the status bar? I have so many up there that I barely have any room for notifications. The location icon is pointless. It's there whether you have location turned on or off. I realize this may require rooting, but is it possible?
It will be possible at some point Im sure. Developers were just starting to get rid of them on the Hero (2.1 Android) before I upgraded to the Evo. I was happy to finally get rid of the battery icon since I use a percentage widget in the notification bar anyway. Many were also getting rid of the clock if they had one on their homepage.
Agreed. I have the clock removed on my moment, thanks to the devs at sdx im sure someone will do the same over here as well.
Seriously the Target icon is annoying! And I thought I was a waste of space.

I hate having the GPS and BT icons show up, I already know gps is always on and the blue light tells me if BT is on.
Will it require loading a custom rom that already has these icons removed or will there be a way to manually remove them from any custom rom after it has been loaded onto the phone?
also interested in this, that location icon/cross hair/reticule is insufferable

What blue light????
Also interested in this. Don't need location, vibrate/silent, or clock.
in for this too, preferrably an app in the market
any custom roms provide this?

[Q] New GPS icon? Always on?

So my friend has the SGS Fascinate and recently said that an icon appeared up in her notification bar. I couldn't identify it, although I assumed it had something to do with GPS or some kind of satellite connection. However, there was no indication as to where it was coming from, after perusing the settings.
After looking at it I've redrawn what it looks like, anyone else know what this icon could be?

Also, I noticed that when I turned off "VZW Location Services" under "Location and Security" that the Icon dropped the three wave bars and just the plus/diamond was still there.
What exactly is this thing? Anyone know?
Part of the DL09 update as I recall
It's the new E911 icon. It will always be there, and the only current fix is to replace the image for it with a transparent one, but it still takes up space on the notification bar.
Ok cool. Thanks for the answers!

To clarify and continue your answer, the icon is for Location Enabled.
(+) means that you have E911 service, which will always be enabled (by law)
(+)<))) means that you have E911 service AND one or more Location Services Enabled, either GPS, Google Location, or VZW location. The <))) will remain as long as you have ANY of the location services enabled.
This confused the hell out of me when I first saw it on DJ05, so that's why I wanted to offer a more complete answer

POLL ....Toggles or short-cuts on 4.2 JB notification bar

i had a bit of discussion with one of the Google android team on G+ regarding the shortcuts on the notification bar instead of actual toggles.
he is convinced that that how it should be ,he is against having toggles of wifi ,gps, Bluetooth on the bar and only allowing the auto rotate and aeroplane mode to be toggles ,some feature that i think are not used as much as the other are.

i may be wrong but i believe allot of user would prefer actual toggles instead!
what do you think
Oh my gosh!! I voted too soon!! I thought they were real toggles and not shortcuts!! Oh my gosh!! Why would they do that!? Why would they make me take 2 steps to turn off WiFi!? =.S
I prefer the Toggles... Take one and move it to the other answer. =.P
Toggles for me too.
Defenitely toggles
the android developer on my link thinks we are all wrong ,i love their work but sometime i think they just don't see the obvious !
I just read through that G+ page. At first I was on your side... By the end I was convinced that they had made the right decision. Google is all about prediction and toggles mean the phone has failed to predict what you wanted. Ideally the system would predict when you want things on and off (look at auto brightness) and the devs are trying to make it all automated. The rotation is a toggle, because they can't predict whether you want it locked or not, etc.
I too wish there were toggles, but I see where they are going... Automate everything.
That's an interesting conversation. I understand the rationale behind settings instead of toggles, but I too am a toggler. You can tell me all day that leaving WiFi (BT, GPS) on all the time will not reduce my battery life but I still won't believe you. I suppose I should try it.

It's true. I leave them permanently on on my Nexus and HTC Desire S.

Ugh! That is even worse. I'm on android specifically BECAUSE they let you micromanage unlike a certain other smartphone maker...
That said while I voted toggles I do see the utility in easily being able to get to things that often need to be configured quickly like WiFi or blue tooth. I actually have toggles set up in the notification area with extended settings and also use the 4.2 shortcuts. My only wish is that they would give us the option to configure the shortcuts. I never use bluetooth. But a GPS short? That would actually be handy!
Toggles.
hurled from my AOKP'd Evo LTE. Enjoy.

Why not have both? Have them all toggles and then when you hold it, its a shortcut. I think this is the best idea. Sometimes I just want to toggle it, but if I want to choose a different WiFi network for example, I just hold on the WiFi toggle and it gets me directly there. I think this is more natural too.

[Q] HTC widget

Hey guys,
I searched the forum and Google Play, but did not come across a widget I would like to have for the Nexus.
No flaming but it is a HTC widget, namely the one that has settings, mobile, wifi, bluetooth, roaming and auto-update on a line.
As I travel a lot and do not want to incurr those horrible roaming data fees (got $150 bill for 3min because the auto-update was not correctly set up by me) and it is the only widget that easely allows to do that.
Did not have any luck with the free widgets available on the Google Play store either.
Anyone knows where to get it and if it is working on the N4?
Thanks a bunch!
(please avoid any comments that are not related to the subject, flaming, etc. but alternatives are gladly welcome )
You should already have a widget called “Power widget” which has toggles for wifi, BT, GPS, auto-sync, and brightness.
Beautiful Widgets includes 1x1 toggles for brightness, wifi, BT, GPS, auto rotate, profile
But I think the best way is probably to flash a ROM like CM where you can customize the quick settings panel to have the toggles you want. As a bonus, it doesn’t even use up any of your home screen space.
HTC widgets require Sense, so you own't be able to get the actual HTC version but there are plenty available on the Play Store which you can configure to show what you want. Here's one example:

Great close to exactly what I was looking for (only the roaming icon is missing) Thanks a bunch!

GPS Notification Bar Icon ONLY when in use?

I can't seem to find anything. Is there a mod out there that lets the GPS Icon show ONLY when the GPS is actively being used? I don't know if anyone is like me or not, but I like to leave GPS enabled for on demand usage, but I do NOT like having a all or nothing GPS icon. I like knowing when the GPS is active or not, but I don't want to stare at the bullseye icon 24/7.
Anyone know of such a mod? I was hoping it would be in G2 Xposed (I just tonight found that you can hide the 4G/3G notification when Wifi is active) but no such luck.
Mods, if this is the wrong section for this question, my apologies. I figured it was more of a Q&A item than a development item.

I fubar'd. I meant to take this down. I was confusing the E911 icon with the GPS Icon. I haven't seen an E911 Icon for two years now and it threw me.
