Deleting text messages - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I rarely change cell phones. Last one was an iPhone 4S+, now just received a Galaxy S7 Edge. I may sound like a total idiot, but I cannot figure how to delete a text message. On emails, I see how to delete them one by one, but is there a way to designate a batch of emails to be deleted all together? Help will be much appreciated as I begin to learn this new phone. --OhioFan

I suppose better late than never, but I personally use chomp SMS and it has the option to delete either the entire text history, or individual messages.

Just saw this sorry, you hold down on a message in the messaging app you would like to delete which brings up checkboxes to select one or all messages to delete!

To expand on this, if you want to delete all messages from certain people you can. Just go into the app, long press the thread you wish to delete and it brings up check boxes. Select all the threads you wish to delete them press the delete button on upper right side of the window.

How to delete all the sent messages in a faster way if you have lots of them??

My problem is the following...
I have lots of sent messages saved in my device, and I can't not save them, but after some days, they aren't usefull for me anymore....
How can I delete all them in a single step, without select all and erase them?
If you have lots of messages you have to do this procedure lots of time...
So.. Is there a way/cab/app which can delete all the sent messages automatically (in a single step)??
Thank you......
use pim backup
backup your pim and restore without check the sent items box
cheers

This may be a solution...
But is there anything easier and faster?
So you're looking to delete groups of messages? Is there something to this that would prevent you from just shift clicking to select them? That's what I do.
Or to delete all messages (obviously this is done from within the sms application):
Menu/Tools/Clear
Menu/Tools/Empty Deleted Items
Are options I use frequently
If you're using poutlook, this might help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=260761

if you have 100 messages, you can't select all in once...
you have to select some of theme, delete them and repeat this operation again and again...
something like "select all" doesn't exist on my Touch..
go into the sent messages folder and open the on screen keyboard, press ctrl+a.
/or are you just trying to delete something like half of the sent items? in that case the shift click is all I've got to offer.

MANY THANKS!!!
This is just what I was searching for!
Fast and simple....
No prob., and if you're trying to select just the oldest then you can select the top one and then press and hold the shift key and then press and hold the down arrow until you reach the bottom of the list. The upside is that this doesn't use the on screen keyboard (if you don't have a ctrl key on the physical keyboard).
You can also press and hold (with stylus or finger) on the first message in the list and slide down until all messages are selected, but i guess the quickest way is really as CRE said with the onscreen keyboard.

Infact this is the way I used to do....
Now I'll use CRE's method... FOREVER!
but i think if u dont want to save theme , just unstick " save the sent messages in folder "
so everytime u send a message it wont save automatic in sent folder . thats it

Issues with People, Phone, and Messages

So I am using aContacts to replace the phone (taking recommendations on better Contact Manager apps as well!); however, whenever I receive a missed call and click on the notification at the top it opens up the People app. I have tried to remove the People app but it just tells me that the app is missing when I click the missed call function instead of opening aContacts. I guess I need two applications one to replace Phone and the other to replace People?
Also, I am using handcent for SMS and MMS and wanted to delete Messaging. I deleted it the other day but I noticed I couldn't receive MMS until I added it back.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and if you all have new app recommendations please don't hold back -- always looking for great apps.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I don't think you can do that without breaking something, as People is a core application.

I stand somewhat corrected. You're trying to replace the people application, which aContacts doesn't do...but when I hit the phone button at the bottom, my phone is asking me if I want to open Phone or aContacts.
So, it doesn't replace the people app, but the phone. When I now look at missed calls and click on the notification, it prompts me to open phone or acontacts.
But the odd thing is, if I select aContacts, it goes back to phone. Weird.

[Q] How to delete multiple emails or sms ?

Hi, I have a question about deleting multiple emails or sms. When I go to either one of them, I can not select more than one (I used to have X1 and when I clicked on one of them and keep scrolling down, I could select more than one). Is there any way? Do I need to dowload a program?
Thanks!

If you want to delete a whole sms thread, then you can just long press on it and you should get a popup where u can choose delete entire thread
No idea about email - the inbuilt mail app sucks anyway
Thanks, but the what I more need to know is how do I delete multiple emails, instead of deleting each individually and just click on one and scroll down until I select the ones I want to delete. I guess is not possible...that really sucks
I feel like a broken record, and honest I don't work for them, but Handcent SMS allows you to delete multiple threads. It does lots of other stuff too.
The email app does absolutely suck, but having looked for the answer on this before I believe it is an android problem not just an X10 prob. Not found any answers on any of the forums that I lurk on.

The 2 most popular email apps are K-9 Mail, and Droidmail. I personally prefer K-9, but both are better than the regular email app that comes with android.
Multi-Select delete, and all of those great options are there in K-9.
Ok thanks! Hope they do something soon for this matter.

Ooooh thanks for the heads up. Must have missed this one on my trolling thru. Downloading now. See, it is true you learn something new everyday!
Update... have downloaded it and finally found a way to get rid of the gmail folders, as I dont use them, that are a constant on the stock app. Loving it so far. Thanks again
For deleting multiple sms without wiping a thread, there's an app called sms cleaner. Couple of different options for deleting messages including by date received and keyword. Some reviews say it doesn't work, but it's because the numbers don't reflect instantly. Waiting a bit after closing the messaging app and checking later will show the correct number of messages remaining.

Is there any way to "add recipient" in stock messaging app?

Ive downloaded and use Handcent and yes it is nice. The reason I looked for and started using it was because of the lack of add recipient option when composing a new message in the stock app that is included. I feel like Im just missing how to do this in the stock app. Is it possible? It seems like it would be the most basic option but I can't seem to figure out how.

Normally,in the stcok app, after you put the name of the recipient, you just have to tap again inside the recipient box to add another one. else if you put phone number instead of a contact in the phonebook, then you just have to put a comma between the two phone number.
You misunderstood. The idea is that I don't want to have to type in their name. I want to be able to choose from my list of contacts in my phonebook.
I think the only options now are separating recipients with commas or FORWARD the message to another recipient after you have sent it out. I prefer the latter since it doesn't create a whole new thread.
lol is no one actually reading the question???
I haven't come across a way to add recipients, I always just type the 1st 2 letters and add them from that, IMO its easier than scrolling through a list of a few hundred people
Open contact list. Long press contact then select send message. It then opens messaging app.

Seeing as everyone is misunderstanding you're request I will give you the short answer.. No.
You can't select multiple recipients from a list in the stock app, unlike handscent, where you can.

Sorry... where in the question does it mention multiple recipients? I think i did answer the question!

[Q] Galaxy S4 Airview with text messaging

Airveiw seems to work pretty good and I find myself using it a lot for email and now text messaging. Problem is it doesn't work on all of my contacts in messaging. On the main messaging screen where it list messages from different contacts it will "airview" the most recent text for MOST but not for everyone...just wondering if anyone knows why this would be and if there is a way to make it work for everyone.
Thanks
I have the same problem... I've restored the sms from sms backup... Could it be?
And if you send or receive another sms the Air view begins to work... Weird...
Having the same issue here...doesn't work on email at all, works on random contacts as I go down the list, as with text messages. Nothing has been restored to mine, it's all "new".
I think it only activates when all of the text is not visible. For example if you browse contacts I noticed it worked only for those contacts whose names were too long to see them entirely and the same thing is with the messages.

I noticed the same thing, but going through contacts, it would activate on some that were fully visible.

I never got a chance to play around with S4. So i am assuming Air view displays the text message and photo pictures without even touching the screen. It is just to keep your finger in the air and wait for it to pop-out. Am i correct ?

Pretty much. You go to your list of people you received text from, hover your finger over a particular contact you received a message from, and it will pop up a Window with the last message received from that person. Kind of the same thing in your contacts list, if the full name is not displayed, it will 0 up the full name.
