Softbricked Elephone p9000 through readback with SP_FLASH_TOOLS - Elephone P9000 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everybody.
Following problem occured yesterday:
I wanted to backup the "boot.img" from my p9000 with the readback from SP_Flash_Tool(_v5.1612_Linux_64bit).
I've loaded the proper scatterfile on the download tab and i guess this was my fault: "I think" that i don't loaded the "MTK_AllInOne_DA.bin" but the "DA_PL.bin".
On the readback tab i choosed the partition "boot" and pressed "readback". I connected the Phone (with vol- pressed) to the PC. Almost immediately the progressbar turned red. Sadly i dont have the SP_LOGS from this time.
The Problem now was, that i can't do anything with the phone. It won't boot, not even the recovery.
Next Problem was that the PC don't recognized the phone. Neither my Linux PC nor my Windows PC recognized them. Also charging won't be done.
After "dmesg | grep usb" i get errors like this (error codes are the correct one):
Code:
usb 2-4: device descriptor read/64, error -110
usb 2-4: device not accepting address 6, error -64
Last chance: OPEN DEVICE AND DISCONNECT BATTERY
So i opened it:
With a needle i lifted the corner at the right bottom.
With a plektron i lifted the other "snaps" from the case.
BEWARE at the right side (where the buttons are). There is the connect for the antenna (or something thats stuck with the case, maybe antenna).
The case is stuck with double-sided adhesive tape at some point. CAREFULLY lift the case from inside (or maybe with heat?).
At this point you can't free the connection to the antenna in the case.
In the upper part of the phone is the connection to the battery (under the covering with the fingerprint sensor.)
Lose the screws of this covering. There are two points this covering is snapped with the metal bezel (on the upper side and on the right side).
Free connection from the fingerprint sensor and lift up the covering.
Now you see the connection from the battery to the board (the yellow ribbon cable). Free it.
If you connect the Device now, "without battery" i saw following in "dmesg":
Code:
[ 3039.949111] usb 1-2: new high-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
[ 3040.078359] usb 1-2: New USB device found, idVendor=0e8d, idProduct=2000
[ 3040.078367] usb 1-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[ 3040.078370] usb 1-2: Product: MT65xx Preloader
[ 3040.078387] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: MediaTek
Interesting, isn't it? MT65xx Preloader hm?? Ok.....
I disconnected the device and connected the battery again, jjust to see what happen. AND IT WORKS!!! YES! The Phones booted as though nothing had happened.
So i rescued the softbricked phone!
Maybe you can use this Info, for your softbricked phone too?
greetings

I am not a pro at this stuff, but isn't the Volume Up + Power button reboot made for this kind of cases? Like in tablets you can't remove the battery, so instead you use that keys combination to completely reboot the device, at least that is what i've read online

Hi.
In most cases you boot into recovery with this key combination.
Not even recovery accessible.

This works.
This method works, I had the exact issue OP described -Unresponsive phone, not recognized in windows.
Tips from my procedure:
-Make sure you use heat to remove the back cover as it is quite fragile, there are two strips of tape that run parallel to the long sides.
-Made sure you remove the cover from the options button side as the ribbon connecting the main buttons to the board is fragile and will have tape on it, most likely stuck to the plastic back cover too.
-Once you have removed the battery from the mainboard make sure that the ribbon from the main buttons is connected into the housing on the main board - when I first tried to flash I did not realize that this had come loose and flash did not work and as soon as I replaced it SP flashed the rom.
-I flashed with the battery removed and my phone is now fixed.
Hope these tips help someone else save their phone too - rather than destroying it!

Would you please provide the link to the version you have mentioned above? --> v5.1612
I have tried tried different links, but I cant find the file, unfortunately.
Do we need the Mediatek VCOM driver in Linux???

In my case, by accident, I let the battery drain empty while researching a way to fix my brick. Just before desoldering the battery I connected the usb and "Preloader Driver" was active again

damn
i have the same problem, i did everything as above, and it didn't work.
i had this problem while trying to root, and it seems that nothing can help me...

There is a video on youtube for all mtk devices

I didn't get it. How did you revive it from sleep ?
I have an Android one on whom i use the readback and my phone now continuously start charging and leave and boot up when pressed the suddenly turn off.

I had a simillar issue, i flashed some prelpader files, all went well, but phone didjt boot, and didnt get recognized.. (i used kali linux with sp flash tools), weirdly, after around 30min trying to find the issue, i tried to "hear" the device, if it made any sound inside, which it did, so i pressed the power button until the sound inside of it, changed, and it got detected afterwards. Weird issue, and weird fix, but im glad it worked xD

[Q] USB Device Not Recognized

I've been using the DFT rom V2 for a while now, had not conected my surround to the computer for about a week, now my device is not recognized by mi pc, not on flashing mode (three color stripes) nor while running, not even if i dont let it go to lockscreen. Already tried updating the USB drivers, which a could post if anybody needed them, nut i have them up to date... could some body help me please!!!!
You should try cleaning the USB connector (slot) with some kind of cleaning agent and maybe a soft brush to get rid of dust/dirt etc.
That worked for me the last time my device was not recognized. (I actually discovered this because I use an USB-hub with device-connection light indicators, and it would not light up [correctly] when plugging it in - meaning the connection was not very good)

Help! My Yoga2 1050L is dead.

After bad attempt to downgrade from lollipop to kitkat and flashing with fastboot commands and ... and ..., My tablet yoga 1050L won't boot, only black screen, no logo, no sound , no connection with PC, and especially , cant turn OFF or Reboot with power key.
What is the solution?
Thanks!
how you "cant turn off" if it's off?
try a long press of pwr button (>10 secs in the first case, and >1min in the sec) after each try press pwr again to see if it starts
also does pwr+vulup+voldw put you in fastboot?
what files did you use on your downgrade?
Thank you SIR for your quick reply!

ther was 3 "capsule" file on lollipop stock firmware (1050l_USR_S100081_150724_WW52_ROW_KKtoL):
capsule_32to64_dvt.bin
capsule_32to64_pvt.bin
capsule_dvt.bin
I send only the last one. but when i reboot, it seems to flash new bios but with no happy end! Only the black screen and you know the rest of story.

Already done with no success!
with the tablet's usb not connected, start intel phone flash, feed with the flash.xml from the stock rom, check the box "on demand flash mode" in the bottom of the main window, press start, now press and keep pressed the vol+ & vol-, connect the usb cable... if it start good if not most likely you have flashed a bad bios (actually the DVT stands for design validation tests, this is the one that gets flashed BEFORE the actual bios will be, and i would be surprised if it worked on a already shipped production tablet, i have played/flashed once a dvt and bricked the tablet), who told you to fastboot flash capsule capsule_dvt.bin???
yeah, it was on in the first place coz was still on the old bios, but that command wrote the dvt bios over the existing one, and on the first reboot that's the one who activates
sorry

oh boy...
the reasonable solution is to send it to the lenovo support, the other one implies:
- dismantling (you should use a suction cup to remove the back cover, otherwise you will scratch or worse the plastic, but if you don't care about aesthetics you can crack it open with some flat head tool)
- bios programming with a compatible spi flash programmer
- a soic8 test clip for connecting (if it doesn't connect well, most likely you will have to solder thin wires to the spi flash, for eg in my case the soic8 test clip didn't made good contact with the pins, and this means also for you to have a smd soldering iron, among other smd specific tools) everything is small small small... micro resistors/capacitors around... one stupid move and bye bye
you sure you cannot send an email to lenovo telling them your in warranty tablet is broken and send her where they say? (a case like this is solved in 10-15 days from the bricking moment to the coming back home - all through speed post services on lenovo's expenses, at a lenovo service takes at most 2-3 hours for them to fix it)
ps. does the tab buzz when you press pwr to start it?
does it still flash the light when connected to the charger?
from what you've said in the previous posts you cannot connect with the dnx protocol, this is the last resort one can use to save through software a bricked tablet and it's started by the bios, when it doesn't start most likely your bios is broken and with a broken bios your hardware won't get initialized
when you connect the intel phone flash tool through usb to your tab does it detect anything? Platform: .... Hardware: ..... Status: ....

Big thanks to you Man,
I was looking for a bios programming tool to revive the TAB with the procedure you describe. But i cant find the bios flash file on the web; neither the programme to use.
I confirm the the TAB seems to be dead. when pressing the Power button for 60s, nothing happens, no sound, no vibration, no light, no led ...... NO SIGN OF LIFE!
Once more, Thanks to you for your caring.
Now, I want the original bios file to flash it with CH341A programmer.
Please Help Please

ZE550KL fell in water. Hardware damage or hardbrick?

Hi everyone! I'm a noob which made a mess with a brand new asus Ze550KL: I accidentally tossed it inside the toilet (possible water damage).
More precisely, this is my problem, I hope someone may help me .
THE CURRENT SITUATION
Now it's totally dead. I don't know if it is a broken hardware problem or if it just hardbricked, and I don't know how to find it out since the device is toally dead (not turning on, not responding to POWER ON + VOLUME and not entering recovery/fastboot mode, no lights) except from the fact my pc recognizes it as "QHSUSB_BULK" when connected via USB, but can't browse the files inside nor do anything else). Also I think the battery receives energy when connected with the recharge cable to the wall, since the alternator gets hot like usual.
THE SYMPTOMS BEFORE SILENCE
I don't know if it helps you to know, but the dying process was this: The device fell in the water while turned on. I picked it up immediately and it seemes still working, but the touch screen was not reacting to my fingers touch. I immediately pulled out the battery and dried every reachable spot with a towel. I noticed that the water did not get inside the back case, so after a few minutes I tried to insert again the battery: as soon as the battery touched the electrical contacts the device started to vibrate like hell, so I immediately pulled it out again. I put the device in a hot place a few more minutes, than tried again with the battery: it didn't vibrate, I tryied to power it on and it could reach a logo screen with some words on the toop. Unfortunately I don't remeber if it was "Fastboot" or "recovery", but it must have been one of the two. It remained stuck on this screen, so i turned it off again.
The sequent day I had the bad surprise: it was totally dead. I put it in a warm place and waited a lor of days. After 2 weeks it's now still totally dead.
MY QUESTION
Before spending money I'd like to kwow if its just a software problem (hard brick due to cotact with water) or hardware problem, and in this last case what was damaged. How to do it? More precisely:
1) I read a lot of guides about unbricking but I couldn't find anything related to the ze550kl for the case it's totally dead, with no possibility to enter recovery mode or fastboot mode. Is there a way I can make a check-up via PC? How can I solve the "QHSUSB_BULK" problem (since i read some guides, but nothing related to ze550kl with screen not turning on at all).
2) In case it's hardware damaged, how can I understand what the water damaged precisely (in order to know if it's worth repairing or not)?
Thank you very much!!!
EDIT (08/11/16):
Maybe I made one step towards the solution (if there's any). In fact I installed the qualcomm processor drivers on my laptop, so now it recognizes the devise as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3)" when connected via USB. This means that I can connect to the device using QFIL (software used for unbricking via usb, explained here : androidbrick.com/ultimate-qualcomm-snapdragon-unbrick-guide-snapdragons-are-unbrickable-qhsusb_dload_qpst_qfil/).
However the problem is that QFIL returns this error message when trying to download something on the device:
"Download Fail:System.Exception: Unable to download Flash Programmer using Sahara Protocol
in QC.QMSLPhone.Phone.QPHONEMS_SaharaArmPrgDownload(String sFileName)
in QC.SwDownloadDLL.SwDownload.QPHONEMSSaharaDownloadArmPrg(UInt64& version, String armPrgPath)
Download Fail:Sahara FailSahara Fail
Finish Download".
Using google search I think it may be because also that part of the ROM which allows to download files on the device via USB is corrupted. Is that true? Do you have any solutions?
Thank you again!!!
Grazie!
Usually, when your phone's got water inside it anyhow, you'd best bury it in rice for about half a day or so.
But considering you've done that all, you'd better get professional opinion instead.

(DEEP FLASH) Revive your zuk z2 from HARD BRICK state. 9008 mode easily

Hello everyone!!
I have seen many help posts about hard brick of z2 while playing with custom roms.
So i am gonna make this guide.
If your phone doesn't respond to any key. When you press power key just little vibrate and led flash. When connecting to pc if your phone is shown as 900E mode in device manager then this guide gonna help.
Lets start!
First completely power off your phone.
To do this "Press the power key for 10-15 second, lil vibration and led flashes. Keep pressing till 2nd vibration. Then immediately leave power button."
Now phone is complete switched off.
Then the hard part comes. Taking phone to 9008 mode. 9008 mode is emergency download mode (edl).
Without taking to 9008 mode we cant flash the rom. So its must be taken to 9008 mode
To take phone to 9008 mode you should cut the outer cover of cable.
Strip the data cable so that we can see the inner wires. There you can see 4 wires. Cut the outer skin of green and black wires so that we can see the inner conducting part. Then short circuit them. Make sure both wires touch each
other.
If you dont want to cut inner wires take a thin needle. Pierce green and black wire with needle. Make sure needle touch inner region of both wire.
Now make sure that your phone is completely off. Then its time to connect to the pc.
Make sure both wire are touched properly. Then connect the usb to pc. (Only connect in USB 2.0 PORT). No sound comes if done properly. Pc wont recognize till now.
After about 4 seconds separate green and black cable.
If you using needle then pull out the needle.
If you have been successful phone goes to deep flash mode that is 9008 mode.
If it goes to 900E mode. Keep those wires touched. Keep mobile connected to pc. And power off the phonei.e pressing power buttom for long second till vibrations.
Then after 3-4 second after power off untouch both wires. Itll go to 9008.
If successful then you can flash easily via Miflash. Miflash gives hello packet error. Restart pc, change USB port, take phone out if edl by long pressing power and again take back to edl.
Hello!
I've been trying to revive my phone but I haven't been able. I cannot post on zukfans because for some reason, I cannot sign up. I says that my info appears spam like, and to contact the admin, whom I cannot find.
I used your deep flash method described in zukfans, and was able to flash with qfil and miflash, but i cannot use my phone.

how to shut down my device, i already tried many times , many tutorial to turn off from blink , and vibration every 30 second, when do nothing!, and every 5 second when i push hold power button for 1 hour already, nothing change................
Problem Solved , just force to flash with DF Cable then i use old version with lite config to flash my brick device thx

I bought this device this July month, I was encouraged seeing you guys did a lot of flashing, I thought I could flash myself but it became a nightmare now.
I am not that much technical so please bare my usage of words below, but I need a real help.
I was doing the basic TWRP for getting the AICP ROM 12.1 but after wiping the data from TWRP my device doesnt get recognized for the Sideload and I did whatever I can but it doesnt detect my phone, so I am having a screen with Start "Green" which is showing the device status as unlocked and when I click on Recovery it goes to the Zuk logo and doesn't have any sign after that.. stuck really
I tried using QFIL but my device detects as 900E but not 9008 also adb doesn't detect my device at all after this.
I think I really did a hard brick of my device.
I dont want to loose hope, I want your help really badly.

My hard brick z2 is not even coming up as 900E. Basically computer doesn't detect and no changes in device manager either. Please confirm what to do.
I have tried pressing buttons told by many others and in various other forums. It doesn't work. Does deep flash cable method work even if the phone is not detecting in 900E mode?

It is indeed installed. I have tried multiple computers and uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Anyway I sent for service and they said motherboard has to be replaced. But I suspect this, so asked them to give the device back. I cannot pay around 100 dollars for just repairing.
Do you still think deep flash cable would work even if the computer is not detecting my mobile anywhere?

Is there any sign while charging??

Z5C will not charge at all

In my persistent attempts to put a custom rom on this device, the following sequence occurred:
- Phone suddenly not recognized by PC in any mode: normal, recovery, or fastboot. It would not even charge from the USB port, no reaction at all from the phone or PC that the connection is made. Other devices using the same port and cable work correctly.
- Phone unresponsive to a wall charger while it is powered on. Similar to the above description, the phone does not recognize that it is pulled into a charger at all while it is powered on. However, at this point the
- Phone is responsive to a wall charger after turning it off. The screen shows the charging icon on screen and the LED is red, meaning the phone recognizes the micro-USB connection when it is powered off, but only via the wall charger, still sees nothing when connected to the PC.
With the above criteria I decide to let the device completely discharge its battery, hoping that a full empty to full charge will reset whatever is happening. It takes about 3 days to go completely dead ... moving from screen need-charging image, to only the red LED, to absolutely no response when pressing the power button.
Now I have a phone that is completely unresponsive to any button press, as expected since the battery is completely drained. Unfortunately, it no longer responds to the wall outlet at all. Meaning it won't charge in any way. Used multiple chargers, multiple wall sockets, multiple cables, gave it compliments, etc.
At this point the phone is totally and completely dead and unresponsive to any charging. Any thoughts or help?

I had this issue when trying to flash GreenKernel. Turned out I messed up on a step and flashed it the wrong way. Check my posts in that topic.

Thank you for the response, I was about to throw the phone away. Can you be a little more specific? I see your post here regarding a rebooting loop with red light flashing. However, I don't have any response from the phone whatsoever ... nothing on the screen, or led in top right. It does not accept a charge from 1A or 2A source, it is literally a paper weight right now. I need to "jump start it" or something of this nature. It won't charge at all.

Probably the phone looks dead but does get charge - it's just not showing it with the LED.
I believe Snapdragons are close to impossible to hard-brick - the chip itself has a ROM with EDL burned into it and that can always be used to bring it back from zombieland, if you have the right tools. But if you are lucky enough, then service mode would still be available even without hunting for the EDL stuff.
First, power the phone off for real with the hidden button near the SIM tray - and leave it off.
Then, install Flashtool and use it to flash a stock ROM, as described for instance here. When flashing, choose flashmode instead of fastboot and follow the instructions.

Thank you for the response. I pressed the hidden button in the SIM tray for 10 seconds, 3 times in a row. Downloaded the latest "Emma" Sony Flashtool ... and nothing happens. The software does not recognize any Sony device plugged into the computer. Checked the USB cable, it's good. The computer, and the Sony flash software, do not recognize the device at all. It will not turn on in any way, and it does not appear (based on the screen and LED) to accept a charge at all. It truly seems bricked at this point. Any thoughts?

I don't know what method is used by Sony Emma, sorry. But simply connecting the phone won't surely be enough if there is no software on it that answers to USB requests from your PC.
How about trying with the tool I suggested you? Let the phone off, download a stock firmware and start the flashing in flashmode instead of the standard fastboot mode (just follow the on screen instructions).
If that does not work, the only thing that's left is EDL mode. I've found no documentation for Z5 Compact, unluckily - but any decent repair shop should be able to resurrect it.

I downloaded the flashtool you linked, and also the XperiFerm and latest Z5C drivers as mentioned in the tutorial. The drivers do not have an exe. I can not manually install the drivers because the device is not recognized by the PC at all, it does not show in the Device Manager. Moving forward ... downloaded and installed the Sony Xperia Companion software, it also does not recognize the device at all. The flashtool you linked also does not see the device at all.
23/016/2019 00:16:53 - INFO - Device disconnected
There is no flashmode or fastboot mode possible, the device does not respond to any buttons, any charge, or mean glances. Any last thoughts before I cut my losses and throw it away for a XZ1 compact?

Don't throw the phone away!
I fear I was not explicit enough:
1. keep the phone off and disconnected
2. click on the Flash icon, choose the firmware
3. choose flashmode
4. press volume down and only then connect it to the PC
If even this alternative service mode has been wiped, then the only possibility left is EDL. For that, I'd go to a repair shop.

Hi,
Power off the phone : press volume up and power button. Wait 3 vibrations (if not, the phone is powered off).
Press first the volume up and plug the phone with the usb cable into your computer. If you see the blue light you can use Flashtool, if not... it's dead (for me)...
How to use Flashtool is another thing, blue led is essential.
You'd rather throw it away for a Xz2 compact and install Omnirom. You can find some used ones for good prices.

Thanks, Antonio. Step #4 causes no reaction in the phone, or the Flashtool. The software does not recognize the device and the phone remains unresponsive. It truly seems hard bricked to me. I live in Mexico ... this device is rare even in the US, the guys will have never seen it, and their approach to EDL is as good as mine. I'm pretty frustrated with this dead phone, I think it's time for a new one and to mark this as a lesson learned.

Thank you. No blue light under any button combination, charging cable, outlet, software, mean glances, etc. My next one is XZ1 or XZ2 ... I'll take your advice into consideration, the XZ2 has better specs but of course its +$100. I like to think of myself as a capable engineer, but destroying this Z5C has made me pretty hesitant to attempt the same process on a new phone. Everyone seems to agree that hard bricking this device is near impossible, however I beg to differ as look at this dead one on my desk.

Ouch - a real pity.
It really seems you succeded in wiping out all possible accesses for the Sony bootloader. Do you mind me asking how you managed that? I'd like to avoid doing the same mistake.
Qualcomm EDL mode is surely there, but you will need to open the phone and the software for that approach is not freely available (or at least I was not able to find it).

I don't remember the exact sequence, but "fastboot erase" was used on the "bootloader" and "recovery" partitions, then the phone was unplugged. This left the system with no start sequence ... when I depleted all the battery charge it simply wouldn't respond to anything and has since been lifeless. I'll pry it open and take a look at the internals just for fun and to get one last squeeze of value from it. I also plan to bash it with a hammer which will be particularly satisfying.

You can safely overwrite boot, but never ever touch the bootloader. The bootloader is responsible for starting all the various programming modes, as well as passing on execution onto the kernel start during normal boot.
BTW, I don't think there is any reason at all for erasing partitions - when you overwrite them with your own data they will end up being clean anyway.

While I can understand your frustration, that would be quite silly. Even if it has no value to you, it's still recoverable for anyone with the skills and tools - try to sell it instead, if anything it could be used for spare parts.

I'm trying to find out more information about the emergency recovery mode for Z5C - I might be able to find out a way to recover your phone. If I'm successful (be warned, it's a big if - so please don't count on it), you could sell it as a working phone instead of as a brick.
First problem, I don't know how to enter EDL mode on the Z5C: but I hope an EDL cable could work. I've ordered one for testing, since it's an useful tool for recovering a lot of other phones too - it will take a while to deliver, so don't hold your breath. You could also join me in my experiments (after all, you have nothing to lose) by ordering one yourself (you can find cables for as low as 3$).
Second problem, the software tools. Given the ubiquity of Qualcomm chips, apparently there are quite a few available. In the opensource arena, I've found those:
https://github.com/96boards/documentation/blob/master/consumer/guides/qdl.md
https://github.com/openpst/sahara
https://github.com/bkerler/edl
Third problem, finding the signed binaries you have erased from your phone. I guess they can be extracted from my own device quite easily - they are on eMMC after all.
For an in-depth discussion of EDL mode, geared towards its (in)security, I've been reading Aleph Security articles here.

Hey again, sorry for late reply. Work...
My issue seems totally unrelated to yours. My problem was that I was doing the flashing wrong, instead of just flashing the entire .zip I flashed boot file etc and this is what started the issues with not taking charge, BT wasn't working, wifi etc. But I had more juice in the phone since you want to have quite a bit before doing flashing, but I read your post about discharging it.
If you can't revive it, don't fear rooting and flashing, just make sure to read and to take all steps necessary. I kinda messed up my Z1C and I didn't do any changes to my Z5C until recently. Well, maybe a year now, just because of that occurrence.

Hello, got my cable - but I've not been able to make it work so far. It could be because I need Windows and specific drivers, I'll look into some more. But yes, when it's fun I never give up
