[Q] How to go back to S-ON?

Hi everyone,
I have a htc desire z and have it perm rooted and S-OFF.
Now i want to go back to stock with my Nandroid backup i've made before flashing other roms.
I can go back to my nadroid backup but then i want to update my stock rom with the update that came out some time ago. But for that you have to Unroot and S-On again... HOWWWWW CAN I DO THIS???
Which update do you want to apply to the stock ROM ? You don't have to unroot and S-ON to apply an OTA update, and currently all the known OTAs are rootable (you will lose root but keep S-OFF if you got it via gfree).

Well, i was trying to install the OTA update but it didn't work.
Couldn't install the update.
So i thought it was becouse the S-OFF...

If you have custom recovery (CWM) then I think the OTA won't work. But you can always just flash the stock recovery back on (e.g. via fastboot or flash_image) then you should be ok.
Or you can just flash the 1.72 ROM complete, though you will lose all your data/settings.

So... if i flash stock nandroid back.. and uninstall custom recovery what is ROM manager i guess, i can update stock with the OTA update?
Or how do i get rid of the cwm otherwise?
Sorry if i'm asking stupid questions thnxx for your help!

Yeah just flash the stock recovery back on via fastboot or flash_image, then you should be able to apply the OTA, assuming you haven't done other stuff that might break the update (e.g. removing stock apps).

Ok, i'm gonna try it now. First uninstall rom manager and then try then ota update.
But i'll loose my root you're saying... is it rootable again for now? Couse i understand that otherwise i can't flash another rom for a while...?

The 1.72 DZ OTA ? Yes, that is rootable via the psneuter method now, it's just you cannot use gfree to get S-OFF at 1.72, that's why a downgrade may be necessary for some (i.e. if you are at 1.72 and S-ON).

similar question here. I didn't made a backup for the stock recovery module. If so how can i restore the stock recovery? Are there any available on xda?

[Q] New desire Z. S-OFF - A few haunting questions!

hi,
Received my desire z today. And planning to root it. I am coming from wildfire so this is a little different.
My phone is not locked to any carrier. I can use any sim card in it.
my firmware version is : 1.34.720.6
S-ON
Hboot is 0.85.0005
These questions are haunting me:
1.Do i need to do a S-Off to be able to flash custom roms? or is my hboot good enough to install custom roms with just root and S-On.
2.will i have any problems without soff and only root? like flashing radios or kernals?
I am assuming i dont need a sim unlock because its unbranded anyways. correct me if i am wrong. but gfree does sim unlock along with s-off.
I tried searching but dint get any results. please help. Thanks.
The only answer I know is you won't be able to flash anything through the bootloader. That means if you want to flash a radio or any other PC10IMG.zip, you have to find a recovery-flashable version and flash it through your recovery (the unsafe way). Kernels are normally flashed through recovery so that is not an issue.

Oh yeah. i understand that. perhaps i dint frame my question right.
I am going to install a custom recovery. say Clockwork.
But is root + custom recovery is good enough to flash roms and kernels etc or is S-Off compulsory?
1. You need S-OFF to be able to flash custom roms, or clockworkmod recovery.
2. With S-ON (I think) you will be able to flash new radios, but considering that you will not be able to flash clockworkmod recovery you will not be able to flash custom kernels.
Considering that you can use any SIM card you don't need SIM unlock, but if you want custom roms, and kernels you will need S-OFF and clockworkmod recovery
To gain s-off you have this tool, but I have never used it, I gain S-ff downgrading from 1.72 to 1.34 using this tutorial , but you already have version 1.34 so you have to start from step 13.
Thanks. I had one more question. Is hboot 0.85.0005 rootable? Can I just follow the guide you provided?

Yes it is, you can follow the guide starting from step 13, the steps from 1 to 12 are used to downgrade the software to the version 1.34 witch you already have.
Or try to use AMT i think it is easier.
Thanks buddy. Rooted!

With cwm recovery it's not going to work.

No, I have the official upgrade from Asus (not a cwm flashable zip) but on my current stock ics rom I have cwm and root installed and my question is if I install this upgrade will it take away cwm and root??

I've already tried, installing recovery via apk from gnufabio, then recovery (the roach one) and that .zip... but it fails...
Someone can help me with the correct procedure please?
I also have the issue that myzine.apk is missing during the update in cwm although i'm sure it is there. Any ideas how to solve?

You need to flash back the original oppo recovery before flashing ColorOS.

Recovery has nothing to do with the rom you are using.
Recovery is flashed on your phone in boot loader mode.
you need to replace the recovery to the original oppo one, for this to work you need to flash it with fastboot.
for fastboot you need to install the android sdk, and find 5 drivers for it.
search for tuts there are many of them.
you can find the original find5 recovery here:
http://oppofinder.org/find5/oppo-find-5-original-recovery-image.html
Actually you can flash latest color os with custom recovery like cwm but i recommend you use twrp. The problem if you using custom recovery is you cant OTA update color os as it need stock oppo recovery. I already flash with this method and never fail. Can you verify rom you downloaded not currupted?

It shouldn't. I've used recoveries for my specific device taken from older firmwares. Flash it and find out. If it doesn't work it shouldn't flash.
