Anybody plug a USB microphone in to see if there is hidden functionality? - OnHub Discussion and Development

I suppose on a rooted version you could all sorts of things with a USB microphone.

I'm surprised Google didn't turn OnHub into Google Home with the addition of a USB microphone. OnHubs already have the built in speaker.

it was my understanding that although the extUSB socket has the ext pins, they are not actually connected to anyting on the blackstone side, so without a bit of hardware and some soldering skills, it wont be possible to ever enable the 'ext' part of the extUSB port
what i find funny is everyones major sore point with HTC is the use of the usb audio. now they finally give us a device with 3.5 jack and were trying to get it to work with usb

Agree - now we have a great 3.5 socket with socking sound there's loads of people who want USB sound. Once HTC provide USB sound I want a micro SD sound output channel !
lol
it did seemlike all i heard as far and cons go with htc was the usb headphones
I think its great they give us a 3.5 port. Just put it on the bottom so car holders can incorporate it for quick simple connections. Guess I'll need to set up bluetooth audio for my in car use. Hate to plug in extra plugs to get audio out.

[Q] USB MIC

Any way to hook up a usb mic to the keyboard and make it work? The mic recording ability is terrrible
I'd say try it.
Guess I should mention
Sorry, should have said I tried it, but with no luck. i wonder if there is an app that will directly play around with the usb ports on the dock--in terms of configuring etc.

[Q] Using Powered USB Speakers with Nook

Hi Everyone,
I appreciate the great work developers have been putting in exploring the hidden capabilities of Nook.
I am struggling with USB host now. Here is my situation:
I have a pair of Logitech USB speakers (Please google, Logitech audio Hub, since I am not allowed yet to post direct links).
These use external power and were originally being used with my notebook connecting via USB.
Now, since I do not use my laptop any more and use only NOOK, I am interested in using them with Nook.
I am currently running Nook with CM-7.1.0-RC1-encore. Is it possible to use these speakers? I read a thread about USB host and some people have mentioned using USB audio but I am not sure if they are using powered ones and I am concerned whether connecting a powered speaker may fry the USB port.
Any thoughts, experience, ideas would be appreciated.
Update to a recent nightly. There have been so many updates for USB there is no point in trying to troubleshoot the RC.
Sure, I will update to that. Any other directions to get the USB speakers working?
I read your post and decided to try it. I do not have the speakers you mentioned but do have a set of insignia usb powered speakers.
I turned on host mode and connected the speakers to the nook. Tried 3 different games and had the same results. The speakers will power up and receive a signal from the nook. They work for about 20-25 seconds then lose the signal from the nook . I have to reset host mode to reenable them.
At this time, I would recommend using powered speakers through the headphone jack or a headset. Not sure what's going on through host mode but it had me worried when I had to reset host mode 3 times.
I'll run a logcat to see what's going on in the system but it looks like a no-go for the present. I get excellent results from powered speakers through the headphone jack. Just a thought and I'll get back to you with the results of the logcat.

Thanks a lot Moshe5368 for your response. The problem I have is that these speakers do not have 3.5 MM input and USB connection is the only possibility.
Though they are really nice speakers, I guess if this doesn't work then its time to just order another pair of speakers.
I have just ordered the USB converter today (from Micro USB to USB-F) and have not tried it with the speakers I own yet. Will test that and revert back on what I find.
BTW, the speakers I have are powered with regular power (USB connection is just for Audio signal). Do you suggest I try them? Any chance they could fry the Nook's USB port?
It is a possibility that that type speaker would work. My logcat showed (if I read it right) that since the speakers were drawing their power from the usb port (even through the usb powered hub) I exceeded the power available through the micro USB port on the nook.
I was not sure what to expect but thought that might be the case. I have a set of powered speakers from jwin that plug into the headphone jack and perform perfectly.
Let me know what your results are.

Sure. I will keep you posted as soon my adapter arives.

[Q] Can you plug a USB mic into the Note?

Hi all,
Has anyone hooked up a USB mic to the USB port of a Note via a USB OTG cable?
I would be really interested in using a decent USB mic with Audio Evolution that just got released last week.
I'm not sure if you'd need drivers for it, or it would just register as a mic in the same way a mouse or keyboard works OK.
I tried googling but couldn't find anything, except a video in which someone hooked up a USB mic preamp, but once you start doing that you lose some of the portability of just having the Note plus a USB mic.
I've seen the iRigMicCast, but I think a USB mic might have the potential for better audio quality, and also more options if any USB mic worked.
thanks,
Rich
mouse, keyboard, pen drives and a few portable disks on fat32. that's it i guess.
Yes, you can. You need to compile kernel with your usb mic drivers and flash it to your device.
I tried to connect a couple of usb audio devices to the note (otg cable) - No luck...
Hopefully ICS will fix this.

USB audio in MotoX style

Have any one successfully tried to play music through usb?

Yes, it worked with a HiFimeDIY DAC.
Yes, I have tried it with a couple of devices and it works flawlessly (no FC nor "X service has stopped working"). I've got one of these usb sound cards and an otg cable with me all the time now.

Thanks for ur inputs. I have connected my MXPE to my car audio (place where i insert pendrive) via otg usb. But how to start playing the audio through my phone's usb? My car's music system doesnt detect any device. Sorry for bad english. I hope I am understandable.

Oh that's not going to work, the USB port only works with pen drive and and the car system read files saved on it. The only way to play music from your phone would be to use Bluetooth or Jack port if it has them.

You can try plugging the phone in (via otg) go into Settings -> Developer Options -> Select USB Configuration; (change to) Audio Source
*usual no responsibility disclaimer*
On my MXPE it will revert back to MTP on usb disconnect (which is annoying as hell if your otg/usb cable disconnects at the slightest movement)
If you end up getting it to work let us know how plz

With the OTG cable, you can give digital out to your DAC. I am playing with my Mojo Chord and it works fine with Onkyo HF player or USB Audio Player.
so an adapter from micro usb to audio 3.5 would actually work here?
