Wireless charging not providing as much juice as charging via USB cable? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Does charging the phone via the Samsung official wireless stand (or any other wireless chargers) causes it to have "less overall capacity" on the battery compared to charging it via USB cable? E.g. Once charged to 100%, does wireless charging provide less capacity compared to charging it via USB cable?
Note that I'm not talking about charging speed or rate, I'm more interested to know about the battery's overall performance when charged using wireless vs cable.

Sorry, misread your question the first time.
No, 100% is 100%, whether you charge wired or wireless, fast charge or slow. The battery tells the phone when it's full, and the phone tells the charger to stop charging.

I always seem to have better battery when I use the plug instead of wireless.

Just use the USB 3.0 charging cable. Not much else to do. The charging speed might be different for wall vs. computer.

What is the USB 3 charging cable? what kind of cable is included in the original package? I also suffers from slow charging, might be because I connected the USB cable to an iPhone usb adapter (because I have US plug, and i'm using EU).

It means that charging faster will reduce the overall life of your battery because the battery and phone doesn't support it. The Galaxy S5 supports USB 3.0 and Qualcomm Fast Charge.
Also, the fast charge on your Ace 2 just means that it will draw maximum power from USB ports. It doesn't change charge speed with a wall adapter.

seems a bit slow.. you are using the adapter it comes with? are you doing anything intensive with it while it charges? ex skype or something?
Use the original cable and adapter. If you think that's too slow to charge, like taking up to 5 hours, that's unusual. Let your carrier or the store check it for you.

Yeah, using the cable and adapter it came with. Nothing is getting used when it is charging. It must have taken about 6hrs to charge during the night.

This is just wrong. I think my charge is almost 1% per minute - pretty quick.
Hi. I have a G900F and I have noticed that my new S5 charges much slower than my old S3.
If I check it with "Galaxy Charging Current" or GSam Battery Monitor" it says that only 450mA is used even though I have connected the phone to my Laptop using a USB3.0 cable on a USB3.0 port.....
Any advice please. Thank you!

Wireless fast charging very slow to none... anyone?

Mine is very very slow, sometimes only added 1% after an hour of fast charging.
Though when i turn off fast charging on the phone, it charges normally (faster than when fast charging is switched on).
I'm using the Samsung original fast charger (the new tilted model) by the way.
Anyone experiencing the same problem? looks like a firmware issue?
Most times you have to reposition the phone until it says that it's actually fast wireless charging. Kinda Irritating. Also make sure the fast wireless option is turned on in the settings.

I use a Samsung fast wireless charger. Now I also remember that if you don't have the Samsung one then go to your local store where they do have one and land your phone on it. I read that the fast charging wireless feature only starts working after you use a genuine Samsung fast wireless charger, but remains functional thereafter.
Yes it says fast charging and I can tell by the short time from empty to full charge (usually around 1.5 hours) approximately.

yes as mentioned i'm using the original samsung wireless fast charger, the latest model which it's at an angle so there won't be the problem of misplacement. and yes again fast charging is turned on, cables, adapter are all original stuff that came with the phone.......

S7 Edge (Exynos), using Samsung tilted wireless charger with phone original adapter / cable. Phone it's saying fast wireless charging, but is only fully charging in about 4.5 - 5 hours (starting from 10% or lower).
Tests from 45% took same, about 2.5-3 hours.
Charging by cable: about 1.5 to 2 hours. Also saying fast charging.
Samsung is waiting for me with phone and charger to test them in their shop.
Will keep you updated.
agreed, have noticed that it occasionally shows normal charging rate when in fact attached to a quick charge source... reboot/replug always seems to fix but I've learned to check each time I plug it in so that I don't come back in an hour to find it's barely moved

Fast charging by cable, normally takes ~100mins from 0-100% on S7 Edge. However, my S7E has the same problem as yours with mine charging at average 25% per hour with and without the wireless fast charge option checked.

How do I test Quick Charge 3.0?

I just got myself a new V20 yesterday. I tried charging it with my own Quick Charge 3.0 wall charger but I'm not too sure about the charge time.
So I'm going to try again. But before I begin, I need some advice.
How do I check if it's really charging with Quick Charge 3.0? Also, the phone now is currently about 66%, how much more do I have to drain before I commence?
Sent from my LG-H990 using Tapatalk
As much as you want. Thing to remember...QC is variable rate, the more charged you are the less fast it is. Also, official posted charge times from OEMs refer to a phone powered off typically.
Right. Powered off. Good point.
And I supposed using an app like "Ampere" is not going to work because of QC3.0's variable voltage and amps, am I correct?
Sent from my LG-H990 using Tapatalk
Okay. Just did a little test.
Started at 5pm with 25% battery left and using my own QC3 wall charger.
Ended at 5.50pm with 91%.
That's pretty fast! And the best part, the battery stays cool despite Quick Charge.
I'm going to try charging from 0% tonight.
Edit - Oh and my phone was turned off while charging.

Just an FYI, it's not good to drain your battery to zero. It'll shorten it's life. Keeping it between 40-80% is optimal from what I've read.
Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
Ampere app on Play Store, check it's charge current values specially when screen is off. I think it should be like between 2400 mA to 3200 mA. When screen is on , the charge current values decreases. Also with the app, you can compare the current values of QC 2.0 versus QC 3.0. Cable should't be faulty.

Thanks for your advice. I am aware of this. But I want to experiment just this one time. So it shouldn't hurt too much.
And the results are good! 30 minutes and it reaches 51%. 60 minutes with 89%. 70 minutes 95%. And 83 minutes to hit 100%.
Very pleased with the results.

Ampere might not be the best way to measure current values because of the way Quick Charge 3.0 charges with variable voltage.
The few times I measured all fall below 1000mAh.

Hey fellas, not to take over the subject matter but feel like you all know batteries well. What if a 1am charger is used overnight for charging. Going with the idea that a slower charge charges the battery better and maintains a better charge all day, or is that not the case. Also is any harm done with charging with a slower charger. Thanks
I never use quick charge at work or at home, slow charging will prolong the battery life. I always start to charge at about 8-15% where possible, and disconnect the charger around 90-95%, this is the proper way to prolong litium battery.
The only time I use QC is when i'm traveling.

It is better to use a slower to prolong the longevity of the battery. You won't get more 'charge' from using a slower charge. I try to use slower chargers when I can. I usually use my Samsung 2A chargers and use my adaptive fast charging when I need quickness. The LG QC 3.0 does pretty well though. Battery doesn't get that hot but I'm quite sure it still isn't good for the longevity. Nonetheless, we have swappable batteries so I can use my AFC and LG QC 3 more often lime I do my note 4. My HTC m8 and moto x pure usually were used with 1A chargers most of the time unless I needed a super fast charge. Also, LG makes quality batteries. Probably why Samsung is switching to them until they figure out what the hell they did. Also, notice apple doesn't use quick charging technology. iPhone's battery tend to hold charges better until a out 18 Mo th period before user starts noticing appreciable decline. The peeps that put iPad chargers on iPhone's will see less longevity from their battery.
So I thought that QC3.0 was supposed to get you closer to 80% in 35 minutes, vs the 50-55 from qc2.0. So I also read that the factory charger that LG sent is a QC2.0 and not 3. So I bought a 3.0 brick and also a new usb c that is certified compliant with QC3.0. Still only got to about 40% in 30 minutes. Not sure what's going on with that. I understand longevity and all of that. However I got this phone because once my battery is shot I can just swap it. So I don't mind getting that faster time and buying a newer battery a bit early.

TMobile S8 charging.

Is it just me or the S8 charge slow. I'm coming from a Note 5 and it charges pretty damn quick. Right now I'm at 53% and the phone says approximately 55 minutes till full.

That sounds about right.
Fast charging is great when the phone is at a low percentage, as the percentage increases the charging speed decreases.
Overall charge from 0% should be 1 hour 30 minutes -ish or somewhere in that range.
Test it.
It definitely charges slow, my 8+ included. There's a conversation about it on the Samsung support forum. It's definitely not intended behavior, as it'll still charge slow at low percentages. It never reaches the 2000mA rate that it should.

Based on my testing (I'll verify again tonight with pictures)
Quick charge 2.0/3.0
Screen on - 5v/1A
Screen off 9v/1.67A
USB C cable charging
Screen on 5v/1.5A
Screen off 9v/1.8A
The phones are QC 2.0 which means they're limited to I believe max 18 watts charging rate which would be 9v/2A with the screen off

Yeah Samsung for some reason did not activate QC 3.0 or even 4.0 on the S8(so stupid but seeing the NOte 7 battery issue, they're probably being cautious)
The S6 only had a 2550mAh battery vs the S8 that has a 3000mAh battery so yeah the S6 is definitely going to charge "faster"
Pick up a USB C multi-meter and see what the charger is outputting to your phone

Oneplus Wireless Charger Speed

Hi guys, I was lucky enough to get a free wireless charger with my phone from Oneplus.
Since then I have been testing the speeds and I am pretty surprised about how slow it is.
Now I realize that this might be faster than most wireless chargers, but I was wondering if you guys could post your times, ballpark, from either 50% to 100% or near dead to 100%. Something measurable.
My phone is at 4%, I put it on the charger and it says 1 hour and 43 minutes to full. Is that expected? Do yours show similar?

Unless there is a setting to turn on on the phone to enable fast wireless charging, and I don't think there is, it doesn't seem to be working correctly. I could try to plug the charger in another outlet. Not sure what other variables there are.
My charging speeds are also slower. Even slower then on my 15W Samsung wireless charger. Any ideas why?
I get fast charge with my Samsung fast wireless chargers. I going to return their Warp charger.
