Battery drain? - Verizon HTC 10 Questions & Answers

So I have verizon version.
I went to bed with 80% on my HTC 10
And 60% on my S7e also verizon version.
I woke up with 63% on HTC 10 and 59% on S7e. Both phone had 30% of android system but for some reason HTC leaked battery.
Idk what is reason for this, fingerprint sensor? Double tap woke up sensor?
Everything from notification panel was turned off

The S7edge has amazing battery for me. Have you updated the S7 edge from the VZW update from last week? It has reduced android system drain.

The new update for the 10 should fix a bunch of issues, not sure when Verizon will release it but the it should be out for the USA unlocked model soon.

Did you root or s-off or anything else? Did you uninstall or disable some apps? I had this problem a few times with my HTC M8... Turns out almost always reason was I disabled or uninstalled some apk which gave phone wakelocks... I had 20+% drain through the night and after I fixed it I had 1% per night (8 hours)... So if you have anything changed, flash stock rom and dont delete anything just wipe dalvik cache and cache.. if problem persist you can try factory reset...
Attached pictures you see what looks like when you have wakelocks and how it should be when phone is in deep sleep... No "Awake" when screen is OFF:

I have a completely stock VZW 10 and I lost 15% over night. I've noticed apps will show in usage that I have never opened, mostly Verizon's junk though.

My unlocked version sleeps like a baby. Might be some Verizon apps draining your batteries. I lose about 3% overnight (about 8 hours)

My battery life is not great so far. 2.5h SOT in 7 hours, down to 40%. What happened to the 2 day battery life promised haha.

Did you fully charge the phone before turning it on? As stated here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-10/howto/720800.html
"Before you turn on and start using HTC 10, it is recommended that you charge the battery."

Its probably WiFi drain. Firmware 1.30 should fix it.

I certainly didn't do that, but my battery is pretty good so far

This is one of the reasons why I'm scared to turn in my S7E for the HTC10. The S7E just lasts for ever on a charge. Right now I'm getting close to 8 hours SOT with over a days usage and thats with gaming mixed in.
I just don't want to risk only getting half that with the HTC10

HTC 10 will probably never do that. S7E has 3600 mAh battery. 10 is only 3000. I'm very happy with the battery of the 10, but I'm coming from the M9 which has rather poor battery life.

Wi-Fi drain? I'm on 1.21.617.3 and only lose 3-4% overnight (about .5%/hr) with Wi-Fi, bluetooth, NFC all on. There is nothing wrong with the stock build as far as battery drain. I also have not modified any Google backups or apps as far as syncing and backups go.

They originally said by then end of the last week but that did not happen, I hope soon though. You will get the updated directly from HTC, not AT&T. I had the unlocked M9 on AT&T and got the Marshmallow update in December from HTC. They still have not released it on AT&T.

At&t w/ their updates is exactly why I left my carrier branded s6. There are some carriers who have sent MM to s5's...at&t hasn't done the s6 yet. Smfh

I'm also having battery drain. I got the phone Monday and that night I lost about 35% overnight. I fell asleep listening to music over bluetooth so I thought maybe that was it. Then Tuesday night I charged it fully before bed. I took it off the charger at 100%, turned the screen off, set it down and went to bed. Woke up about 9 hours later and it was at 59%.
Android system was the claimed highest user, but it said it was only awake for 14minutes. The top 3 listed apps were Android system, Google Play Services, and Phone idle.

I lost 1% over 5 hours in extremepower mode

Maybe the same tricks that worked on the S7E will work on the 10.
You guy's should try turning off all usage statistic reporting to Google and HTC.
Also check in the developer options to see if any bloatware processes are constantly running. If you find one then just disable it's package.

Battery Life is absolutely horrible

Ive been using an iphone 5 and Optimus G Pro for the past 8 months waiting for the new androids to come out this fall and I am quite disappointed. I have the ATT version, i have wifi, gps, bluetooth all off, never had to do that on the iphone. I close out all the apps and clear the ram, and I went through 30% overnight while I was sleeping. My Optimus G Pro was far better on battery and that seems kinda backwards?
Is there like a break in period or something, what is the deal here

You have to figure out what application is causing the "wake lock"
What a wake lock is; Its something running in the background that is not letting the phone "sleep" or otherwise go idle. Meaning your phone is running full speed ahead while you are sleeping.
It could be all sorts of things causing a wake-lock. I had one guy on my ROM have a wakelock because his internet connection was so poor the phone just kept searching and he was draining about what you are draining everynight.
Another thing I would look at are your location settings, not just GPS. The new Google settings Icon has a bunch of crap that it syncs and tracks you via all sorts of stuff. Go in there and make sure nothing is turned on you dont need...
And lastly, like the other guy said, check for a battery stat app. They can show you what app is not sleeping or why your phone is not sleeping like it should.
Facebook is a notorious offender. With refresh off I would get over 140 wakelocks in a 7 hour period.

mine is way better now, after being off the charger for 3 hours I'm at 94% where as yesterday I was probably at like 70% at this point.
Don't forget most android handsets need a 72 hour battery calibration window before you will see a more even battery level. After 72 hours your phone should have a good batch of data to help gauge its power levels.
Battery is fantastic on this phone. Coming from an X and Note 2.
I'm still on my 2nd full charge but notice once the phone huta around 60% the percentage drop starts to slow down, I figure this is just calibration getting dialed in and so far I'm very happy with battery life.
fd toggle
Hi there, I am not sure if this is the reason but I used to have Fast dormancy toggle apk on my old lgog to prevent the phone from complete discharge even though I was not actively using the devicd. I installed the fd toggle here, too and I can honestly say that if I am charged 100 % at about midnight, I have the same 100 at about 6:30 when I get up. Of course, no data,no sync,no wifi and no active use of any kind during that time. I do not know if the app is the key but the result is pretty impressive. I have the korean version F320K.
I was using the Snapdragon Battery app on my DNA. Never sure if it did anything. Is it worth using on the G2 as well? Love the phone! Less gimmicky than the S4 and more interesting than the Maxx.

This is dumb. My G2 was at 100% battery for 3 hours! You either have a lemon or your cell reception is poor where you are. The battery life is not horrible.
Yeah, I'm with the rest. I'm coming from a MAXX HD (insane battery) and the battery optimization on the G2 is far superior (albeit smaller battery).
Bought the phone over 24 hours ago and I am still on the charge from the box. Its running great for me with LTE on.

Poor battery life on 4.4

My biggest gripe with kitkat is that battery life doesn't feel close to what I was getting with 4.2. Sorry I don't have any screens saved, but generally dead after 14-16 hours with 2 hours screen on time.
Running stock 4.4 with ART
How is your battery life on kitkat? Any tips to improve battery life?

I have noticed a sizable drain as well, I use to be able to get 2+ hours before I hit 50% and make it a whole day without a problem, today I was at 1:20 at 50% and I didn't change the usage of my phone.

Here we go again.. I have had (and later only followed) these discussions from my early Donuts days; after EVERY system update always complaints about battery drain - vanishing the cries (and the issues) in couple of days.. Bet (and discussed) this being some update issue; resetting battery charge points, connecting servers, fine-tuning system, apps; your guess is as good as mine!
But; this thread will vanish in couple of weeks - says me.

Yup. Battery life on Moto X 4.4 is at least 50% better than 4.2.2 Moto X. My first full charge on ART was 34hs 2.5hrs SOT.
Here is my second full charge rundown:

3rd full charge is 8hrs 85% left (was watching youtube videos on LTE through lunch). 0 complaints. :good:
Edit: I should mention that mine is a Dev Edition and I have frozen a TON of bloat.
Can anyone tell me what modality service is?

I'm having great battery life... Though, I am rooted and have some crap frozen, but the overall difference between stock 4.4 and rooted 4.4 is pretty minimal. Currently at 61% battery, 7.5hrs off charger, 2.5hr screen time. BT on 100% Wi-Fi on 50% GPS on 100%.
AT&T Moto X rocking rooted 4.4
I just did a full factory reset so I'm going to give it a couple of days to see if that helps.
For the people in this thread that say they are not having an issue.. what is typical for your Android OS service usage percent? My screen was my top drain before the update, but Android OS is now.

OTA 4.4.4 and Battery/slow charging issue.

I just downloaded the update and i noticed that my battery life SUCKS right now and the phone charges EXTREMELY slow... has anyone noticed this problem with their s5 after the update??
From around 9:30pm and 100% battery, i went down to 58% by around 11:30pm of constant use... the phone has been plugged in since then and i am up to only 71%
I am hoping that after this charge it holds a little better but this slow charging is no damn good :/
I'll try it out througout the day tomorrow, but right now I am pretty friggin worried, since until now the battery life and charging were amazing...
No issues here. NI2 working fine, rooted. Check your battery stats to find out what app or service is eating the battery & uninstall or wipe its data. Backup & wipe your phone back to stock if needed.
Fine here worked 10 hours yesterday still 70%

Battery Drain

I just got my phone a couple of days ago, and seem to have some insane battery drain. I leave it on overnight and in the morning it seems to be down to about 10%.
Is anyone else seeing this sort of issue?
Here are some screenshots:
While the battery is OK but not stellar, I notice you have Wi-Fi on? Turning that off overnight helps immensely.

I have a Galaxy S4 running 6.0.1 from JDCTeam that gives me way better battery life with WiFi turned on all night, and runs way more apps than this phone (plus, the battery is just 1850mah). I suspect that there might be a lot more going on under the covers here with respect to hidden services. I am not happy with the fact that the battery usage stats are hidden.
Should I root and try to use betterbatterystats to figure out the real problem? or maybe just assume its defective and ask for a replacement?
I think you need to turn this off too. Otherwise, it will keep searching for wifi even you turn the wifi off.
I'm having no battery drain issues. I have the Grey one.
I have turned off mipop and voice print. Dunno if that could be the culprit.
Turning off Smart Power Save increased my battery life
I have the same issue... 10 to 15 % drain over night other than that the phone it's amazing... When I got the phone before I even turn it on I got in recovery an did like 3 times a factory reset ... I'm gonna keep the phone for 2 more weeks if the drain continue I'm sending it back to newegg ?

yeah the battery was massively overrated pre-purchase
Thanks dougm0 and Barsky ... I turned off Smart Power Save, MiPop and Voice Print. I also made sure that the location section was only using GPS (not wifi+bluetooth), and it all made a difference. I still feel like I can squeeze out a lot more performance here. My deep sleep numbers in better battery stats has improved, but it's still not where I want it to be. As I make more tweaks and get better battery life, I will post screenshots and settings tomorrow (maybe it might help someone else).

Something I always notice that you might also want to take into account. When you get a new phone you are not using it as you will regularly be using it after the new period wears off. You are probably testing all the different aspect of the phone and just plain messing around in ways you do more of when the device is new. I always get horrible battery time in a new phone
No issue with battery drain - left my phone at 100% overnight with WIFI ON, in morning it was at 97%. I think I will take it as 3% drain over 8 hours.
You most likely have an app that's causing wake lock issues. It's a common problem on any phone.

My battery is amazing on this device.
I Don't mean to rub it in anyone's face that have these issues. Must be an app that's causing it.
Coming from Note 4 and Moto X Pure. This is twice better. I don't read screen on time on this device because it doesn't show it. I don't even need those stats. After 16 hours of the charger with same use I get home with 40%+.
My Note and X Pure were dead by then or have been connected to a charger by that time.
Hope y'all figure it out.
Battery life on my phone is not that great either. It's not horrible but I expected better. I think it drains 3% in 4 hours with wifi and sync on. I did turn off all the scanning and battery saving feature.
I recently noticed the battery on my phone was just 3140 mAh instead of 3250 mAh like on the website says it should for the US model. Can you please confirm what capacity your battery has?

TMO LG V20 - Fast battery drain and charging issues

Heyas,
For some odd reason my V20 isn't charging all the way to 100%, only 92% (even overnight with OEM cable/charger). Its been happening for a few days now.
I'm also getting bad battery life. I can easily get a 1% drain in a few minutes and that's just browsing google news.
Has this happened to anyone yet? or anyone got any ideas?
Its full stock and about a month or so old
Have you tried the dreaded factory reset?

Not yet.. its called "dreaded" for a reason. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and do it tomorrow or something
The LG Backup and Restore is pretty good. I tried it a week ago when I did a factory reset and it restored most of the stuff.

Weird! I'm at the same point too! Stuck at 92% this morning! It was getting stuck at 97% a few days ago and went on for 5 days or so like that!
I had this issue being stuck at 93% and ran the smart doctor and it noted zedge at causing issues with battery. Uninstalled zedge and rebooted and all was fine. Idk if zedge was truly the issue but man is it full of overly intusive ads now. It's akways had ads but now it's insane. Kept promoting me to install clean master and other crap.
Zedge is pure crap and was eating up battery on my phone too. I just get ringtones from websites now and Google searches.
I have horrible battery life. I am on my second LG V20...Still the original battery....LG & T-Mobile decided only to send a phone to me without a new battery...
