Are there any reasons to hold off on taking the latest update? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Just in terms of eventual root, or something. It's not going to make much of a difference, or anything?
I'm on 6.O.1 - G930PVPU1APB5
Update G930PVPU2APD3
Its just that I notice it includes "security improvements," and that after updating, "returning to the previous version will be impossible. "

If your battery life is good right now, I wouldn't take the update. Sprint ****ed up the battery life on the GS7E with the pd3 update. I wish I had never updated my phone. I went from 7 to 8 hrs SOT down to 4 to 5 hrs after the update. It is caused by a GPS bug.

My own research. Used GSam monitor & wakelock detector to track down the culprit service.

new update fix the hotspot issue?

It breaks the apn hotspot trick

I have my apn modified and the update did not break it. I meant the 'restart' method

I noticed with the newest update notification tones are significantly louder while using headphones and are unaffected by the sound level settings.
Edit: Also, notifications on lock screen auto-clearing upon turning phone screen on.

I wish. I accidentally took mine a few days ago. Was walking through LA at night, pulled my phone out to check directions, and it was 10% deep into it. I was so pissed, and it was like an hour before I could use my phone again.

Thanks. This works, well worth the buck.

Can this be a bad thing? What if you turn the screen on to check time or something, and then the notifications disappears without you even glancing at it?

Android system eating battery

My battery is declining faster than expected and when I looked up my stats, it showed that Android system was eating up more battery than the screen!

I took my better battery stats as well. I don't have location services on, but I am using Google Now. Is that the reason for this battery drain?
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Yeah, just last night I had 15 hours on battery, over 5 hours of screen on and still 20% battery left. Don't know why OP os complaining.
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah the phone's battery is great. I always have gps, wifi, and Bluetooth on with pretty good results. I can only imagine how much longer it would last with some of those off.

I'm not complaining, but just curious why Android system is such a battery drain. It would seem that the screen would be the biggest drain.

So it should be higher in usage than the screen? I always thought it was a bad thing if Android system was the first thing on the list.
Okay then, never mind. I am happy with the battery life, just want to make sure I'm getting the best battery this phone can offer.

Just for your reference.

Generally though if Android OS is higher than your screen on time then you have a wakelock issue. I know without root it'll be a little harder to fix the issue at hand though.
I'd at least look into WiFi settings and turn Always Allow Scanning to Off. Then maybe look at your GPS settings and try the battery friendly mode or GPS only mode. I also don't allow Google to use your WiFi for better location results. There have been similar bugs reported with 4.4 here is some info and afew people trying to squash the issue on a Nexus http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1y96zm/battery_drain_caused_by_android_os_possible/
You boys need root!
I'm not sure if any of the wake lock apps out can show you what's causing this without root but maybe look into it.

Also you can try changing the "keep WiFi on during sleep" to either off or only when plugged in. That may help. Just suggestions that's all. Maybe something here will help somebody.

You also have to remember how much Samsung based apps are running in the background at all times. Figure the pedometer in S-Health, any kind of airview, or S-This S-That when the phone is on. That is probably part of the cause. I do say i see it too but i wouldnt say my battery is exactly bad because of it.

Thank you for those tips! I didn't know about that wifi one. I immediately unchecked always scanning. I keep my wifi on to make sure I use wifi, if available, but I don't need it always scanning. I hesitated on the gps switch, but I figured I'll try it on power saver and see what happens.
Edit:
After turning off wifi scanning, that's what I got. That looks better to me. Although my usage time is lower than my previous screenshot, I started my day at 90% (forgot to charge last night, and that's as high as I could get it before leaving for work), and I'm using my phone more today.

It breaks the hotspot by greying out the APN settings even with the MSL
So we have a choice of forgoing all future enhancements, or losing hotspot. Great.
How is the update? Good/Bad feedback?
I'm downloading it now. I don't see this thing being rooted anytime soon anyway. I hardly ever use hot spot but it is nice to have if you need it. Any other solutions working without root?
Had to wipe both my wife and my s7e. They would stop sending and receiving texts and made some wierd screeching noise before rebooting.

I usually always hard reset anyway after an OTA. Have you had any issues with the update since hard resetting?
Also those that want to get rid of the update nag, use package disabler pro (it's $2, don't be cheap, it's well worth it) disable com.sec.android.soagent & com.wssyncmldm and the nag will go away. I did download the update but haven't applied it yet. Wanted to get some feedback first before applying. If you have not hard reset and have issues then I really wouldn't bother posting about it till you hard reset.
Ok, I updated and it seems like the dun setting is still there for hot spot mod but it is grayed out now. Will have to see if still works.
No problems after performing factory reset. Had to do it 3 times. First 2 times wiping data in recovery caused issues. Factory reset under settings/security menu worked great. Battery is better. No dun in son setting gs though I'll have to carry my Hotspot with me.

I didn't take the update just because I want to keep Hotspot, but if it does work it will probably go away with a data reset or prl update
My Hotspot still works after update. Have not updated profile or prl so not sure if gonna go away after doing so.
Otherwise update seems pretty good.
Took the update yesterday. Tried Hotspot today and it's working. Updated PRL and Profile just now and Hotspot is still working. I do have to turn off Adguard though.
Wonder why it's not working for some

5-12-2016 Software update?

Just got a notification for a software update, doesn't say what its for... Anybody know before I take the plunge???
You'll have to check with AT&T. I already updated, still 6.0.1. AT&T usually posts more specifics on their website. I'm trying to find it now, I'll post the link if I do.

All I can see was the May Security updates.
Almost 2 weeks late, but super early for AT&T !
I hope they keep it up.

Not sure exactly what the update includes aside from security patches, but ever since I updated, my phone is rebooting every 5-10 minutes.
On another board, someone mentioned that it included activation of the FM radio, but I cannot confirm that.

Cool on the update, I figure unless there's some functionality broken out of the box, no need to take it until someone can tell us what it is.
I'm getting constant nag notifications for this. I turned off notifications for updates and it just sits in the notification drawer.
Anyone know how to permanently not take updates so I'm not bothered?

WELCOME TO VERIZON,talk about a double-edged sword:
Great coverage & network (YMMV of course),but, man the rest of their practices, not to mentionusing the bastard CDMA technology,is more than anyone should have to tolerate, especially when no real viable options are available.
Can you not disable VZW's bloatware (VZW apps)?
At minimum,I'd disable DT Ignite, not sure if that will help in the nagging, but,it's one less crapware app needlessly running on your phone..............

I came from a Note 4 and then S7E to the V20. AMOLED has such a tremendous saturation of colors that no LCD will ever be able to compete on that front. But, the brightness level and clarity is about the same. But it has taken me a few days to get back to accepting this as the new norm. Everytime I load CoC I think something is wrong until I remember I'm on a new device.
I took the update. I think it got rid of app pinning in recents.
