How to Root LG G5 and Install Latest TWRP Recovery - European Edition - LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

TeamWin now officially supports the newly announced LG G5 and you can install the Latest TWRP custom recovery on it easily with this detailed tutorial. TeamWin recently gave there phenomenal custom recovery a major revamp. The new additions included a totally new design philosophy with new color schemes inspired by Material Design, newer code based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and a lot of bug fixes. It is absolutely amazing seeing the developer community put out support for new phones this quickly.
You can follow this guide to unlock the bootloader of your LG G5. If you have successfully unlocked the bootloader of your LG G5, you should be waiting for a method to root your device. Here is a step by step guide to Install TWRP and Root your LG G5.
NOTE: This TWRP Recovery is Only for LG G5 H850 Europian Models. Please don't try this with any other LG G5 variant.
Step-by-Step Instructions :
Step 1 : Download Android SDK from the official Android Developers website and install it in your computer.
All Download Links I have Posted here : Download Now
Step 2 : Download the Latest SuperSU Zip file and paste into your phone internal storage (not in any folder) in order to root your LG G5.
Step 3 : Download Latest TWRP Recovery to your computer and rename it to 'twrp' and save it in your desktop by making a folder. (Folder name should be LGG5 for this tutorial)
Windows users will need proper drivers installed on your computer. You can try the Naked ADB drivers or the Universal ADB drivers if you don't already have a working driver installed
Step 4 : On your device, go into Settings -> About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings. Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging.
Step 5 : Connect your LG G5 to your computer using a USB cable and from your computer, open a command prompt and type:
adb reboot bootloader
You should now be in fastboot mode. Download the correct image file from the above link and save it in your desktop by making a folder. (Folder name should be LGG5 for this tutorial)
Step 6 : Open the Folder from your Desktop now where you have TWRP Image file and on Windows: Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt). For Mac OS X and Linux, use Terminal to navigate to this directory.
Step 7 : Type in the following command and press Enter :
fastboot flash recovery ./Desktop/LGG5/twrp.img
Step 8 : When finished, again type the following command and press Enter :
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Step 9 : Once completed, switch off your phone by pressing power button for 10 second. After that, Press and hold Volume down button and the Power button simultaneously. You will see the LG logo on the screen. Let go of the power button then quickly and press it again (never letting go of volume down).
Keep holding until you see the Factory Reset screen. Click through the factory reset screens, clicking Yes.
That’s it! You should now be in the Latest TWRP Recovery on LG G5 from where you can choose whatever function you want to perform.
How to Install SuperSU zip to Root LG G5 :
Step 10 : Once you are in TWRP home, select ‘Install’ button. From the list, choose the SuperSU Zip file that you copied to your phone memory in Step 2.
Step 11 : Confirm installation on the next screen by swiping on the “Swipe to Confirm Flash” option. The installation procedure should start now.
Step 12 : Tap on the “Wipe cache/dalvik” button if you get into any boot loops or other issues.
Step 13 : You can now reboot your phone by selecting the “Reboot System” button.
Hurrah! Your LG G5 is now Rooted and TWRP Installed. Check with any root checker app to verify your rooting status.

[Guide] Procedure with Video to Return from Oreo Beta to Nougat step by step

Hello everyone, I leave here step by step how to return from Oreo Beta to Nougat along with a video that I made with the process step by step, greetings.
NOTE: THIS PROCESS WAS TESTED AND WORKS, IT MUST BE CLEARED THAT THIS PROCESS IS UNDER YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, IF YOU FOLLOW THE STEPS YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM, ONLY YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICK.
COMMUNICATION GIVEN BY THE COMPI @kacarot, "ONLY YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR TELEPHONE"
Look to read by xda and in androi hilfe who are warning that this system is dangerous and that there is a step where you can produce the brick .... I have only read a case of brick (recovered with fh) but several cooks insist on warning the risks ..... From what I read the failure can be given to clean data from twrp and copy the new oeminfo ... There may fail ....
Perhaps it would be prudent to notice well that in the mentioned forums they are withdrawing the instructions ...
COPIO flashdance user post very advanced
It is not advisable for any fan to do it! The trick with dd if =
is that you have to delete the data before in the TWRP to obtain a "normal file structure". You can verify that in the installation. Only if there are no numbers / combinations of letters can you be in Advanced in the TWRP with cp .... and dd if = make and wait until you have finished exchanging the message. Only then can you turn it off and then with VOL + / VOL- and Power of the SD starts the update and waits until it finishes. Then the HWOTA arrives at Zug. Yes, that's just with this rom and the dload folder in the root directory of the SD.
TELEPHONE PREPARATION
1. Activate OEM unlocking
2. Enable USB debugging
3. Have installed the Minibus ADB Fastboot 1.4.2 link download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5MSGGCOoMjiTFE5RHlaOWFvOVE/view?usp=drivesdk
4. Copy to the folder where the Minimal ADB FASTBOOT was installed the TWRP OREO link download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5MSGGCOoMjial94VHVzVnNVSGc/view?usp=drivesdk
5. download the rom MHA-AL00C00, unzip it and the dload folder that we have left to save it in the root of the SD link rom card: https://mega.nz/#!lYIhhDqY!I8lrCig3x2MMTHINZOvwVmhYDX2vz9QWb6V9epA6JI4
6. Download the file MHA-AL00C00.bin and save it in the root of the SD link card oeminfo: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5MSGGCOoMjiSUdZQmJQdzNIRUU/view?usp=drivesdk
DOWNGRADE PROCESS
1. Unlock the bootloader.
2. Enter the folder where you have installed the ADB Fastboot Minimal, press the shift key + right click and choose to open the command window here.
3. While in the command window we proceed to install the OREO TWRP with the following command: fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp-oreo.img
4. Once the OREO TWRP is installed, we enter it with the button (volume up + power), the Huawei logo comes out and we release the power button.
5. Being in the TWRP we go to the option ADVANCE and in this we select the option TERMINAL where it opens a window to place the following commands which install the oeminfo saved in the SD the MHA-AL00C00.bin
cp /external_sd/MHA-AL00C00.bin /tmp/oeminfo.bin and they give the blue button of the keyboard to confirm it.
dd if = / tmp / oeminfo.bin of = / dev / block / sdd5 bs = 1048576 and they give you the blue button on the keyboard to confirm it.
After entering the two commands, we go back to the TWRP and look for the option to turn off.
7. With the phone completely turned off we proceed to install the ROM MHA-AL00C00 which is in the dload folder, press the three buttons at the same time (volume up + volume down + power) until the installation of this one.
If everything was done to the letter the phone should restart and turn on normally with the ROM MHA-AL00C00 installed, and after performing this process, you can re-perform the model and rom you want.
TIP: When doing the rebrand again for the change of ROM, perform the procedure twice selecting REBRAND so that the change of ROM can remain because once it is compiled in TEST KEYS NRD-900M, this I say as experience from someone who has already performed this procedure twice.

[GUIDE] LG G Pad 8.3 [v500] Unlock, Root, Flash Official TWRP & Official Lineage OS

[GUIDE] LG G Pad 8.3 [v500] Unlock, Root, Flash Official TWRP & Official Lineage OS
I'm mainly writing this as a step by step reference for myself, but thought others may find this useful as there are some confusing older posts here. A massive thank-you to fefifofum for all his hard work, and he should feel free to correct me if I made a mistake here somewhere. The pad I used this method for was running Android 4.4 KitKat before beginning, so I did not need to downgrade the bootloader as described in this fefifofum post.
1) Acquire an LG G Pad 8.3 V500, charge it to full before beginning, have a PC with a USB (Micro) cable to connect to your pad
2) If necessary, reset the pad to factory defaults with the following hard key combination:
Hold Power + Vol Down > Wait until LG Logo pops up and release from both buttons > quickly hold Power + Vol Up + Vol Down again
Hit Power 3 times to confirm reset
3) On your PC, download the following files to a folder:
-Latest TWRP App (the APK)
-Latest TWRP Recovery for the v500
-Stump Root
-Latest Official LineageOS build for the v500
4) Boot the pad
5) Connect the pad to your PC
6) On the pad select "MTP" to transfer files
7) On the pad go to Settings -> Security -> Allow Installation of Apps from Unknown Sources
8) Copy the 4 files downloaded to your PC to a temporary folder on the pad (you may use the "Download" folder for example)
9) Disconnect the pad from your PC
10) Go to Apps -> File Manager
11) Browse to "All Apps" Internal Storage -> [Folder you saved files to]
12) Select Stump, Install it, Open It
13) Listen to the groovy music as desired
14) Tell it to brute force, and wait until it asks you to reboot
15) Reboot
16) Browse using the File Manager again to the same folder
17) Select TWRP App (not the recovery image), install it, open it
18) In the TWRP App, check all the boxes including use root access
19) In the TWRP App, Go to flash recovery from file, and select the latest TWRP.img file you downloaded (not the APK)
20) Flash that sucker
21) Reboot to Recovery (I use ADB Reboot Recovery, you could also use the hard button method in step 2 above)
22) Marvel at the beauty of Team Win's legendary creation
23) Go to Wipe -> Factory Reset, wait for it to finish, then go back to main TWRP menu
24) Go to Install -> Browse to your file folder from above -> Select the LineageOS build (a .zip file) you downloaded above
25) Install that sucker
26) Optionally, after installation, you may go to Wipe -> Format Data -> yes to clean all the LG crap off your device (this will wipe your downloaded files too FYI)
27) Reboot into Lineage OS, the best Phone&Tablet OS in town
28) Do a little dance
Hope this is helpful to me later, and to others possibly.
UPDATE: Thanks; I answered my own question, to clarify for other noobs; you need to transfer the zip file in its entirety, and twrp will unzip it upon installing!
Hi, for total noobs, the lineage os file is a zip file, does the entire zip file get transferred? or do you un zip first? If so, exactly which file do you install in step 24?
Thanks in advance.
Update:
I got to step 24, I picked some sort of "img" file to update. I have now been staring at the static LG logo for 10 minutes. How long should I wait to figure out if I did something wrong?

You need to install the Lineage OS build at step 24 in TWRP - that will be the .zip file you should have downloaded here:
https://download.lineageos.org/v500
It should look something like:
"lineage-14.1-20180409-nightly-v500-signed.zip"
Hope that helps.
My V500 is on 4.4, totally stock, and has a 'dead' spot on touch in the center of the screen. Happened after the software upgrade to 4.4.
Will flashing Lineage OS fix this issue? It is a software issue, the hardware works properly when tested.

I'm not sure, but I know that flashing Lineage OS will give you way more current and updated software than the old 4.4 build by LG. It probably is worth trying, assuming you back up all your files etc.
By "dead spot" do you mean that the tablet does not register your touches in one area of the screen, or that there is a problem with the display?
Can the files be on the SD card instead of internal memory?

XXXXX - NVM, I went ahead and chose Grind, it then asked if I wanted to Brute Force. All is well. Thanks.... XXXXNeed a little help, please. Step 14 says to tell Stump to use Brute Force, but the app only has a button that says "GRIND". Is Grind the same as Brute Force and shouldn't the instructions mention Grind? Thanks in advance for the step by step instructions. NVM
Let's say I got as far as step 26 and then now every time I reboot (either to System or Recovery) it goes back to the TWRP boot menu. Any idea which step I screwed up?
One thing that I'm somewhat concerned with is that when I try to install lineage-14.1-20180422-nightly-v500-signed.zip or the 0429 file, the Zip signature verification fails for either. So I tried them both, disabling the zip signature verification, so it would complete.
Thanks for the write up, and sorry for what is likely a noob mistake.

There are various ways to do root and various ways to disable it and remove it.
You must write how you did root, because no one will want to answer your question clearly.
You have a long internship in this forum and you should know about XDA rules, especially 1 and 3.
Dear sarahlegs,
Thank you so much for this procedure... Easy, clear, efficient... It took only 30mn to me to proceed and to give a "second youth" to my lovely Lg Pad... !
Here are my (little) feedbacks for noobz, according to my experience :
Step 2 :
After power in your tab by pressing VOL DOWN + POWER, when the LG appears, yes, you'll have to press VOL DOWN + VOL UP + POWER (all together) until the Factory Hard Reset page appears (it's not usual to press VOL UP and DOWN in the same time).
Also you will only have to press POWER two times (not three as indicated in the procedure) to confirm the reset (just follow what is indicated on the screen).
Step 21 :
Boot exactly like step 2. You will be invited to proceed to "Factory Hard Reset" exactly like in step 2. Proceed by pressing 2x times the POWER button and AFTER that the new TRWP menu will appear (don't be afraid to perform the factory reset ! the TRWP only appears after this step... and you'll be able to go on with the procedure).
Also, I may introduce an optional "26.1" step :
If you reboot your tablet now, it will work perfectly, but as a noob you won't find any "Google Play" icon, which can be a little bit disapointing for you (or any "classic" Google tools, like Maps, Gmail, etc..).
Don't worry.
To install all (or some) standard Google applications like Google Play, you need to install the "OpenGapps" package. And you HAVE to install it NOW, before the first reboot (as indicated in the OpenGapps procedure : "If you reboot into LineageOS before installing Google apps, you must factory reset and then install them, otherwise expect crashes.").
Procedure and download links are explained here.
For your LG GPad 8.3 (assuming that you installed the Lineage version indicated in this procedure), select "Lineage 14.1 (Android 7.1)" then on next page, download your package from "ARM" as "Platform" and "7.1" as "Android" (then it's up to you to choose, Nano, Pico, Full etc... I personnaly choosed the "Mini")
Once done, enjoy your renewed Gpad, and thanks again sarahlegs for the great job he did writing this step-by-step procedure (and all people who worked on this lineage realease for Gpad 8.3) !
I have a LG tablet. I really like it, until it started giving me trouble. It has Trouble sometimes restarting etc. It just buzzes instead of coming on. If I shut the screen off, it takes several tries Before it comes back on. Someone said it might need to be flashed again. Do you think it would help it? Please give me some advice. thanks
doesn´t work on mine. Stump says unsupported device.
I have lineage installed and that doesn´t work...

Thanks for the guide. My G pad 8.3 was already rooted with towelroot so i skipped the rooting step.
Once i've flashed LineageOS it just boots back into TWRP, even if i select reboot>system it still just boots into recovery. Anyone know where i'm going wrong or can help fix the issue?
EDIT: I've fixed the issue, i had to run a couple of commands from the terminal that i found in another thread.
Thanks

I'm currently typing and dancing.
This was actually a very nice explanation.
Usually these things are too technical and you have to do research for years, but I know have LineageOS on my GPad8.3 V500 and I'm happy, happy, happy!
Anyone know if this will work on a VK810 4G model?
Can I just say a big thanks to this post and other comments - my tablet has gone from being an old and increasingly unloved device running Android 4, to become a slick clean interfaced smooth running Nougat machine. It is so good I have just bought another V500 off eBay. The OS maintainer is doing a fantastic job ( I just hope Lineage 15 will be here soon )
I've got a stock V500 running Lollipop, that I force upgraded back in the day. I'm told I have to downgrade this back to Kitkat in order to start playing with ROMs, is that true? And if so, is there a guide to do so - the link in the OP doesn't work anymore. Any advice would be appreciated!

[GUIDE][A6020I36]Install Lineage OS 16, root and recovery in Lenovo Vibe K5

Guide to install Lineage OS 16.0 with root, recovery and unlocked bootloader on Lenovo Vibe K5 A6020I36 by lexiyuri
0. Download and uncompress all the essential included files (TWRP recovery, minimal adb and fastboot, lenovo drivers) included in my androidifilehost link:
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=303569
Download the Lineage OS 16 from here (thanks to harry8242):
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=282516
dont forget to choose latest Lineage OS 16 compilation
Download the Gapps from
https://opengapps.org/
(choose Android 9.0, arm64 and stock options)
Download the latest SuperSU version (flashable zip package) from here:
http://supersuroot.org/downloads/SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip
Important: dont forget to copy the Gapps, supersu and ROM inside a micro sd card before start!!
1. Make a entire backup of your device, syncing Google and WhatsApp accounts before doing something.
Remember: you are going to erase your Stock Lollipop version in your k5!!
2. Install the inclued Lenovo Drivers
from the folder named latest_usb_driver_windows_2
and the drivers in the executable file named LenovoUsbDriver_autorun_1.1.15_user.exe
For Windows xp to 8.1: proceed to follow on screen instructions
Note for Windows 10 users: this OS enforces driver signatures by default. This can be disabled to install drivers that are not digitally signed. Use the following steps to disable driver signature enforcement in Windows 10.
Click the Start Start menu and select Settings.
Click Update and Security.
Click on Recovery.
Click Restart now under Advanced Startup.
Click Troubleshoot.
Click Advanced options.
Click Startup Settings.
Click on Restart.
On the Startup Settings screen press 7 or F7 to disable driver signature enforcement. Your computer will restart and you will be able to install non-digitally signed Lenovo drivers.
3. Install Minimal ADB and Fastboot: double click on the adb setup file included and follow on screen instructions
Alternatively you can download Minimal ADB tool from https://androidmtk.com/download-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-tool or choose the included in compressed
Also you can install Android Studio SDK from its official source in order to use the ADB and fastboot tools
https://developer.android.com/studio/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpdiIlpfh5QIVks13Ch2bUw8REAAYASAAEgJW9PD_BwE
4. To ease things, copy the Recovery file (twrp3230.img) into Minimal ADB Program files folder (check before if your program files folder are 32 or 64 bits).
5. Unlock bootloader for lenovo Vibe k5
Enable the Developer Options. To enable the Developer Options, go to settings => About => Software Information => More => Tap on the Build Number around 7-8 times until you see a message telling you "developer options enabled"
Go back to settings and now enable the OEM Unlock by going to Settings => Developer Options and tap "Enable/allow OEM Unlock" and after tap in the "Enable/ Allow usb debugging" option.
I want to clarify in this point: Lenovo doesn't offer an official way to unlock bootloader. Now, connect your phone to the PC.
In your Minimal ADB fastboot program files folder open a command prompt (cmd window) by pressing Shift Key + Right Mouse Click, now type the following command line in your command window
Code:
adb devices
(This is to verify your device is being recognized and shows a code or identifier)
Note: if you see a pop up to allow USB Debugging on your phone, Click OK
After that, type the following command below to reboot your phone to bootloader
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Your phone will reboot into bootloader and enter to the fastboot at the same time.
Fastboot screen shows green lenovo logo, a white background and a tiny message saying if you press longer the on/off button you will restart the phone.
Please, make sure your phone shows the bootloader locked and then type the command below to make sure fastboot drivers are installed properly.
Code:
fastboot devices
(This command will list the connected devices. If your phone serial number shows up you can continue, but if the phone is not listed, your drivers are not installed correctly. Fix that issue and then continue.
Now, unlock the bootloader with this command line
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Important: this command returns an error code saying that remote oem is not allowed, just like the following one
Code:
FAILED (remote: oem unlock is not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.002s
For some reason I did all the entire process without problems. May be Lenovo Vibe K5 is unlocked by default, so, it doesn't matter if the message says you can't do the unlocking. Continue to the Step 6
6. Install the TWRP recovery 3.2.3-0
Type the following command in order to install the recovery and press enter
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp3230.img
(this line installs the twrp permanently)
Optional: you can just run the recovery temporarly using this line
Code:
fastboot boot twrp3230.img
The fastboot boot command line lets you inside the twrp recovery mode window. Also, you can enter to the recovery mode pulling out the battery, pressing vol +, vol - and power all that at the same time.
7. Installing Lineage OS 16.0 -Android Pie 9.0-, Gapps and SuperSu (make root) flashable packages.
First then all, make the reglamentary wipes (one by one) without restart/reboot the phone
Code:
wipe system (this will erase the Stock Lollipop)
wipe data (this will erase pictures, WhatsApp folder, Download folder, data apps, wifi passwords, configurations and so on)
wipe cache
wipe dalvik / art cache
In the main twrp window, tap the Install option, locate your microSD tapping in the select storage to activate the external SD.
Now search the files into the SD, pressing in the "up a level" zone and after you reach it, install the following things in the exact order:
Choose the Lineage OS 16 Rom zip file (swipe to confirm) and wait. Dont restart the phone.
After that, choose the Gapps zip file, swipe again to confirm and wait.
Finally, choose the SuperSu zip file you downloaded, do a swipe, wait.
If you want, its possible install all the zip files as a bunch using the "add more zip option" that twrp offers to you, but I prefer do it each one by one.
8. Do a final wipe choosing "wipe Dalvik and Cache".
9. Now choose the restart/reboot option. Wait for the phone initial setup (around a couple of minutes)
10. Configure the phone with your android account preferences. install your favorite apps, sync your info, etc.
Important: during the configuration, the Pixel launcher can fail. So, choose trebuchet as the default launcher.
11. Configure the SuperSU, install it, and verify the root with the Root checker app (you can found it in the Play store) and you are done!! Enjoy!!
== Special tip to enable the TWRP recovery option in the on/off/restart menu===
12. Once you have finished the set-up in your phone enable the Developer options into Lineage OS following this route:
tap in the drawer little configuation wheel ==> System ==> about phone, go to the last option and tap around 7-8 times in the Rom compilation number until you receive the toast message telling you "developer options enabled".
Return to the main system screen options, tap in System, then tap in advanced, and finally tap in the developer or programmer options, activate them and enable Advanced Power/reboot Menu
13. Finally, hold power button, choose restart, then you will see all restart options including the restart to the recovery .
