Unable to use fingerprint lock after device restart - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently updated my Galaxy Note 4 (SM- N910G) to Android 6.0.1 and I started having issues with my fingerprint lock.
When I restart my device I'm forced to enter the backup password to unlock my device as the fingerprint lock won't work.
But the fingerprint lock works just fine for regular phone locking/unlocking after the device has booted up.
I factory restored my phone and re-registered my fingerprints but that didn't help.
What's wrong?

Have you tried doing a hard factory reset of your device but clear the cache in the hard factory reset menu first? That should fix your problem. If it doesn't then I would take your device to a Samsung Service Center.

This is normal behavior on MM (6.0+), because it would be possible to bypass the fingerprint installing a zip through recovery.
So it's not a flaw, it's a design premise to increase the security.

I'm still not sure why people are missing this point. It even says that a password is needed because the device was rebooted, so why the confusion?

No, it doesn't say "Password is needed because device was rebooted", it says " Unable to use fingerprint to unlock the device". I could unlock phone using my fingerprints when my phone was running on Lollipop. Don't know if it's a security measure or any problem in fingerprint sensor mechanism.
Sent from my SM-N910G using XDA-Developers mobile app

It is a security feature added to marshmallow. There is nothing wrong on your phone.

If you change your kernel this happend.
befor change kernel diasable fingerprint lock and change kernel then re enable it

Dear,
There is certain problem with 6.0.1 ,..even I'm getting the same problem... even in mute motion " Turning Device over " is not working..
plzz help

Did anyone notice that you can't use fingerprint to unlock the phone after reboot, but you CAN use it to change the password? It doesn't even ask for the old one.
I actually liked the fact that you can only use password after reboot, but this completely defies the added security. Is there any way to disable this?

Is there a fix or work around for this? It's driving me crazy. What good is a fingerprint reader if you have to type a password!!!
The dam thing reboots it's self way to often or I have to to get it to work. Really getting tired of buggy samsung products...

It is asking for your fingerprint before you can change your password. The password cannot be changed by another person.

It is not a bug. It is an added security feature of marshmallow to stop another person to unlock your phone during reboot.

Seriously?
No one knows how to set it back to making FINGERPRINT the unlocking mechanism? It is SUPER ANNOYING to type in the (BACK UP!)password. Can I go to pattern lock at least after reboot? HELP!!!

there is an Xposed module that enables you to use your fingerprint after rebooting. It works. I've been using it on my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on the latest software, PE2.

Theres no problem with ur device
I have it on my s5 and its the same on note 5 and all updated devices probably
Forced to use backup password after rebooting then u can use fingerprints

Nothing wrong your device its absolutely fine .actually this is new feature for security reasons in 6.0.1 marshmallow every time you reboot you must use backup password .same like iphone .not like lollipop and kitkat.
So even if someone cut your finger off to unlock they can't
If you want old feature to unlock by fingerprint when you reboot then you have to downgrade to 5.1.1 lollipop.

Thanks man its very useful for me and works on Linearboost Lollipop ROM like a charm!!

This is like an add on. For some roms, smart lock only shows location and device lock. This one adds face there too. If you already have it you don't need this

Where it is depends on your Rom. Did you flash gapps? These are not stand alone, but are a complement for gapps like banked which doesn't come with it. Flash that first before flashing this. If it still doesn't work, then idk :/.

What phone are you using and what Rom do you have? This is tested on terminus on the nexus 5. Gapps should technically he the same across any phone as long as it is lollipop, but maybe there are incompatibilities in some places. Make sure your front camera is working too before trying to set up a face unlock. Sometimes issues happen

Advanced Calling with root?

I am trying to get the advanced calling working with root so I can make a phone call and use data at the same time. I am using echoe rom now and the only option i get in settings>advanced calling is "activate advanced calling" and even after a restart that does nothing. I am thinking there was too much Verizon bloat removed and it doesn't work anymore in this rom. Are any of you able to get this feature working? I've searched most the forums but i can't seem to find anything.
EDIT: Tried flashing this HD Calling fix https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24588212152304773 it seems my advanced calling in settings has disappeared now and i still cant use data while on a call.
I'm running echoe rom and have it working but I've had advance calling active since my Galaxy Note 4 so maybe something there

When I did a fresh flash it says "Unable to activate: Make sure you are using the latest version of My Verizon Mobile to activate Advanced Calling" Did you have to download My Verizon? I do still have my Note 4 I could try to activate it on there then switch the sim card back I guess.
I never use my Verizon personally it's on the device but I don't use it also Im using v 1.2 which is the only one on xda I selected normal option verizon as carrier ux grace apps s7 camera I only removed a few apps hal services and s heath all other I freeze with titanium did the full wipe

OK we are all the same there except the UX grace apps which I don't think matter? I attached my screens of my advanced call settings and activation process, install my verizon after that second screen to get to the third, then restarted after that last one and it does nothing, back where i started. I am going to try activating it in my Note 4 when I get home and maybe that will help. Thanks for the help so far, at least I know it can work on this rom now

Did a TIBU backup and then I wiped everything and started from scratch with the newest verzion firmware (G935VVRS4APH1_CL8875708_QB10880117_REV02_user_low_ ship_MULTI_CERT) from here.I still couldn't get it working so I started a chat with Verizon and resynced everything and we got it working after a bit.
Then I just went through the motions again, did everything in here to get the U firmware, root, and fixes. Verified advanced calling was still working then flashed Echoe and restored apps/data through TIBU.
Good deal forgot to mention I started from Ph1 myself probably should have said that

Nothing that you changed from the time you got the phone will be left on your phone.

I updated to oreo with the unlocked firmware on my note 8 so I'm on the non carrier version, I had face unlock until I installed bk package disabler, I had to remove Google and Samsung account and remove sim to give bk permission with adb and reboot with sim back in and setting up Google and Samsung account again, only disabled Samsung OTA updates and face recognition is now missing completely and was working fine before setting up bk package disabler pro, do you think it was from removing accounts or the bk package disabler? Very strange that it was there and working flawlessly before I removed accounts and sim to enable bk and now it's like it is completely gone from settings.

Did you try flashing the latest 7.0 firmware you can find? Too old ones will not work as the phone will reject it.
Note that SM-G935F and FD firmware are pretty much the same, so if you are intending to flash always flash SM-G935F firmware and not FD for better firmware options.
Otherwise you can take it to someone that does the FRP bypass or get it remotely done for a fee, there are websites out there that offer their services remotely for it. Not going to advertise businesses here.
Try a YouTube video like this on how to do it:

Hi, I solved the same problem with my SM-G935FD using Odin3 v3.13.1. As I had Oreo previously installed, I flashed the following Oreo files (downloaded from sammobile):
AP_G935FXXU2EREM_CL13438344_QB18291953_REV00_user_low_ship_meta.tar
BL_G935FXXU2EREM_CL13438344_QB18291953_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
CP_G935FXXU2ERD6_CP9567704_CL13438344_QB17934979_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
CSC_OJV_G935FOJV2ERE8_CL13439324_QB18100674_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
After flashing, phone was set to factory defaults, but fully functional again. Bye!

yes
Also take a look at this to permanently delete frp locks and other locks made by samsung
Edit: it will also fix knox flag after rooting your phone so all apps like android pay will work like a charm again even on rooted device with custom os ^^
