MIUI on Marshmallow - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

Hey folks, I have a question... Is it hard to port MIUI to Marshmallow for our phone? I love the MIUI Interface, but I wanna move on from Kitkat, and on Lollipop the phone overheats. Besides, all the 4 core are always on and I haven't found any solution for that yet. I'm not a developper but I'm willing to learn if there's a way, which doesn't require much knowledge in development. I appreciate any help. If it's not possible, I'd appreciate if at least someone could help me with making a kernel that boots on MIUI based on Lollipop, which can turn off the cores that are not being used, automatically...

As MiUI is closed source there is NO chance you can contribute directly to source.
You can lend a hand by joining the beta team and giving feedback on what progress they are making towards update.
BTW,kernel governors are used to control the behavior of processors.

Stay aosp anyway if you have 1gb ram, MIUI is too heavy.

Even if I were to develop a kernel for 4.4 which has official kernel sources released already?

I have 2gb. I dont think MIUI is too heavy. The issue for me is only battery. Im happy with the performance this phone gets on any ROM in terms of speed. But battery... thats another story

[Q] stable roms n shiz i9305

SHORT VERSION: is there any stable rom for the i9305 that can also run banking apps that look at if your rooted? Or just a stable rom for i9305!? Or even a stock rom that has no bloat-ware (for i9305 of course and in uk)?
LONG:
So I started out a journey looking for a good stable rom and of course cyanogen caught my eye but I unfortunately swapped to a 4g service and swapped my phone right before embarking on this journey to a i9305 - crap!
I thought wow great 4g and 2gig ram it'll be perfect with cyanogen 11 so I waited and no M build for i9305 all year long argh! So I gave up and tried a nightly cyanogen 11 and it was buggy as hell. So gave up on that after a few weeks and trying different updates moved to carbon - again only nightly available even more bugs maybe I was just unlucky in timing but on to cyanogen 10.1 I was going backwards now not the most fun but it still has a few bugs but is way more stable and I loved the speed and camera was great but still it feels a bit old and I still prefer stock . So I am thinking now I either give up n get stock or go on to yet another one but im not confident now ...thanks!

We don't have the manpower to take on any device requests. You need to find a Dev willing to port it. The PA team can't support your device

Ok thanks never mind I thought I might of missed something on the site were a stable version for my device existed. I see now there's just not much in the way of stable roms for my device in general ...

CM port

Hi everyone,
I have juste created a thread asking for the official port of CM on this device (I can't post the link because I'm new....), section device requests.
Be free to comment the post (even a +1) , I am sure you can find the link we google, and we have to prey that they will take a look at it
Kisses
Won't happen until Alcatel releases the source code and given that the phone was just released to canada as recently as June 30th you can expect to wait a couple of months for that.
Just want I want a bug filled rom that gets rid of one problem and another pops up. I just love when we all use cm and the Bluetooth crashes all the time, disconnects, and overall bearly works. I love when the wifi disconnects and you have to restart the phone just to get it to work.
Sorry I'll stick to the stock rom where everything works perfectly fine.
Wont be any cm roms until we get twrp first. Im shocked more devs dont own this device.

It hasn't even been out 2 months yet. It's an off name most are not familiar with and alcatel's first true shot at an enterprise/flagship level device. It has threads on slickdeals.net advertising it's low price...it will eventually get support by either the source being released or a new exploit being found that can be used to provide temp or perm root...once someone has root they can pull the recovery and boot partitions and development can begin.
It's unrealistic to expect developer's to be jumping all over this phone so soon. I'd never even heard of it till I was looking to buy a zen phone 2 and found so many articles comparing it to the idol 3.
Woukd be nice to have it or either dirty unicorns crdroid or omnirom ^^ now that we have a working TWRP

yeah id miss it too but meh lol but theres the dolby atmos app that has been ported from a lenovo ROM that should work with our speakers and also there can be a way to port the colorOS camera app from oppo phones those can take up to 50mp shots because they use sony sensors even on the one plus one has been achieved an yet it has the same sony sensor also hopefully xposed framework could work on us because of the adaway for youtube ^^
Well if someone's working on a CM port I'd be interested in helping to test it.
Thatd be nice id help too for testing purposes im a very heavy user and this phone has been keeping up with me lately
I'll throw my vote in for a cm port. as well as another tester if needed. Dont have tons of experience, but I'll be happy to help where I can.
well im pretty sure theres going to be a bounty thread for it or any other rom ^^
hi guys,
i just ordered this phone and soon within this month hopefuly will land in my hands in india.
my question is cant we use sources of other SD 615 phones like MI4I, YUreka and TCL M3G to develop rom for our device/ or cant we use their roms with our stock kernel ???
as TCL M3G is already having cm 12.1 and MIUI V6 and several other roms on movilesdualsim forum

Can you use the computer chip from a v8 chevy in a v8 ford? The software has to match to the hardware. How is the software going to control the screen when they have different digitizers? Different sound cards. Just as with your pc the drivers have to match the hardware.

One of the CM maintainers, contacted me here on a PM today and requested files from the device. The work on the CM port will be started probably the next week. I will not disclose his ID for now in order to save him from possible questions on PMs. Probably CyanogenMod soon will be available for the Idol ... I just spread the news.
Cool, looking forward to it!

Thanks for the update! It's been quiet for a little bit regarding a CM port. Good to see it's still WIP.
While I look forward to having trees to build with, I find it kinda funny that they asked for files when a couple of them have the device already. Unless the files are from a different version?

Gathering team to port 6.0 AOSP to the S5

Hi everyone,
I currently found an AOSP 6.0 Marshmallow port for the OnePlus One. I'm a slight new to this but im ready and willing to learn how to do all of this from source. The OnePlus One has the same chipset, cpu, and gpu so it shouldnt be impossible to get this up and running. Anyone interested in contributing to the cause pm me or post on this thread .

Well its all plain experience and trying and trying over and over till it works. Its quite a lot of work its possible just to wait for everything to happen from the cm team but thats really gonna take a while and im sure with enough knowledge and enough hard workers its possible to pull it off. Especially since a device with near the same hardware has marshmallow ported

Well he was probably trying to kang port it. You need to build it from the source. Port the kernel from source and the same with the source for the rom itself. Its not easy but it can be done. I may give it a go myself even if no one can help or wants to.

Welcome to the Exodus

Hello Guys,
welcome to the world of Team-Exodus.
What is Team-Exodus ?
We are a small group of entusiasts that like to learn more about Android and the Android-ROM developement.
We aren't exactly beginners But there is still room to learn more (you never end learning).
What is Exodus-Rom ?
Maybe, we better should start, what Exodus-Rom isn't: It isn't a (semi)professional mainstream ROM like CyanogenMod,AOKP or similar Roms. We don't focus on buzzword features, nor are we into "bling bling" options. We don't need a "change clock color" option, just because we can do it. These are "low hanging fruits", something nearly everybody can do, who has a computer to compile Android.
So what is Exodus-Rom, what is our focus on ?
We mainly focus on learning how things can be done. We are more into "quality over quantity". We prefer to have 4 or 5 real good and stable working features and not 20-30 features that work... somehow... sometimes...
We want performance, a fast, smooth fluid UI, a real good user experience, not a overbloated kang rom.
For instant that's the main reason why we currently don't have a Marshmallow Rom online, but I will give you a little more information regarding Exodus-6.0 (marshmallow) later.
But before that, who are we, who is "Team-Exodus" ?
The core team of "Team-Exodus" consists of the following guys:
@PrimeDirective - Dave, a very talented developer from the US, founder and Team Leader of Team-Exodus, specialist in App developement (for instant our Exodus Updater or the Drop Wallpaper App) and also our specialist for in deep functionalities of the Android Rom (like a complete rewritten Navbar customization). He currently uses bacon (Oneplus One) and Flounder (Nexus 9) for developenemt
@Raja.M - Raja, a real nice guy from India, he is our java specialist, he started Android developement something link 6 month ago but his knowledge is fast growing. He developes on the bacon (Oneplus One)
@TheCrazyLex - Alex, a kernel specialist from germany, he joined Team-Exodus like 3 month ago, mainly responsible to optimize and unify our kernels where possible. He also uses the Bacon (Oneplus One) as developement device.
@usmcamgrimm - Adrian, our graphics and theme specialist. Beside his amazing wallpapers, he is also responsible for all our LGE G3 devices. He mainly developes on the VS985.
@Martin_Ro - myself, Martin, also from germany, mostly responsible for the server with the build system, gerrit and download page. I'm also developing here and there if I find some time as I'm a married guy with to young boys. I'm developing on shamu (Nexus 6).
But beside this core team, there are a lot more ppl that help us making the Exodus Rom as amazing as possible, I will add some more of them step by step
So, now, back to Marshmallow and why it takes so much more time to bring an Exodus-6.0 to you guys:
For this to understand, you need to know more about where we come from.
On late 2014 we (Dave and Me) parted from VanirAOSP (that wasn't really AOSP but also used CM as base at that time btw) because we feeled like it started to get more and more into that mainstream "feature count is everything".
With 5.1 we started to directly use CyanogenMod (cm-12.1) as base, but was somewhat annoyed by upcomming issues because they used their open source branch as testfield for unfinished stuff, so for 6.0 we decided to go as near as possible back to strict AOSP.
But a matter of fact is: With strict AOSP you aren't able to support every device, and not as many devices as we want to support. So we have had to make some decisions and try some stuff. In the end we started developing Exodus-6.0 with a Mixture of strict AOSP and CAF as base, with the really amazing wide support of CyanogenMod regarding devices.
But with this, we got back to one of our main concerns: CyanogenMod is doing a fantastic job regarding device support (nobody can beat them in that department) but they are cluttering their stuff more and more. In the past few month, they started to create their own SDK, their own framework. And their SDK started to grow like a octupus, sticking his arms into every aspect of android. But we don't want to use their sdk, so we needed to remove it from everywhere.
And that was, what took so long. We wanted the device-tree and their hardware layer, but not their feature, and for sure not their SDK. And removing that stuff from everywhere inside the device-trees and Hardware layer.
Also we needed to use some of their code stuff in various places to make the connection between our AOSP/CAF based ROM and their hardware/device stuff.
So that took us nearly a month to finish up, but now we have first working experimental builds for bacon, shamu and VS985 so we can go into the real developing stuff.
There is still a lot to do (bring back all the features we want to, make the rom that fluid that you might be used to from EXODUS-5.1 etc.) But the real hard part is done now and we are way neared to a first public beta. Depending on the time Dave can find for Exodus (he is really really busy currently because of a new job), we expect to have a public beta by the end of the month...
So stay tuned and be patient
Made sticky
Hello! I enjoyed the 1/2 of the core team's and the new teams work since JB VanirAOSP to Exodus .
Just wondering, it would be cool to say what you do to seperate you guys from the rest. I know you guys build with jdk8 instead of jdk7 for the lollipop builds and use Linaro with some optimization flags.
I'd like to know if you do more than that and also I am wondering how JDK8 especially helps with optimization.
If you need a tester for bacon. I'm here very big fan of 5.1.
Nice to hear the updates... waiting patiently...
Sounds like the beta will become a christmas present.

big fan/user of Exodus 5.1 on falcon. out of all the LP ROMs i've tried this has to be one of the most stable and lean ROMs out there. love the amount of essential customization catered here and skipping of cliche features that no one bothers to use (atleast me).
big thanks to @sachoosaini for introducing me to the ROM.
Well here it goes on
@PrimeDirective always a great human and great developer who supported Falcon despite the fact that i can never able to contribute the device to you. I find a best buddy out there who will always be my friend... Now @koshikas thanks Dave for supporting this phone, i never did anything for exodus.. But i am committed for future. If Dave continues the journey for exodus i will be with him in all way... Well what he told me around 6-7 months back is now coming to the real world. Now they support falcon or not. But I am honored by Dave for being there with all the silly questions people ask in community, falcon has great life indeed now its upto the team they develope for it not. I will donating device as soon as I am getting my salary which i am for sure going to get soon..... Wish Luck to exodus....6.0 is on the horizon

Verizon Note 7 Port ROM - Project turned over to the community!

I'm back on Verizon after switching to Sprint back in 2008. So I recently picked up a mint condition Verizon Note 4 so I could have a little fun building a new Note 7 port ROM. Many of you may know me as the creator of the Ultimate Note 7 ROM for the Sprint Note 4. I'm here to tell all of you that I've been working on a new Ultimate Note 7 ROM for the Verizon Note 4. It is nearly ready for public beta release! With the experience I have porting Samsung Touchwiz ROM's. I figured it is long overdue for the Verizon Note 4 users. My port ROM has official and original Verizon Note 7 framework, apps, etc. So instead of trying to make international port ROM's work, which is no simple task unless you know what you're doing, get ready for a true Verizon compatible Note 7 ROM. Those of you who still have your Verizon Note 4 and want to get more life and use from it with a fresh look and feel, look for a new ROM thread soon.
I need a few reliable and knowledgeable testers. If you can help troubleshoot and test the rom, please install Telegram app on your PC and your phone and join my Hybrid Port ROM's group so you can have access to the the test ROM and join the rest of us who are ready to get this thing going. See you there!

The S8 and N8 ROM's are Nougat 7.0. The N4 has been cut off at Android 6.0 and doesn't have official Samsung Nougat 7.0 kernel source, therefore the Snapdragon N4 can't run Android 7.0. ROM's. If this was possible we would have a lot of excited dev's continuing to build 7.0 TouchWiz ROM's for the N4. Unfortunately Marshmallow 6.0 is all we have for the N4 so the N7 Marshmallow software and perhaps some ported S8/N8 apps is as good as it gets for the N4. What i'm doing is building a solid N7 base ROM for the Verizon N4. Once it's ready I will upload it as a stock base rom. Other dev's can use my base to build out custom ROM's with mods, ROM control, Xposed, etc, etc. This will eliminate the need to fix any network related features. It will all work as it should. International N7 port ROM's are not compatible with the U.S. CDMA carrier's features. This is why we need a true Verizon N7 base rom. I know it's a little late and many people have upgraded to newer phones but if there's still users here wanting to run a proper Verizon N7 ROM, this will be it.
With this said, I welcome any and all testers and dev's to pitch in and help test and troubleshoot minor bugs. PM me if you're interested in helping with this. The ROM is 100% complete and operational but I'm working on minor bugs with a few system apps.

I realize the Note 4 has been cut off at Android 6.0, but how are devs able to come up with a 7.1.2 ROM for it? User hsbadr has three: LineageOS, ResurrectionRemix. and EmotionOS (this one seems to be discontinued). I haven't used any of his ROMs for quite some time, because they seem a bit buggy, to me, but that's beside the point I'm getting at. How is he able to make a 7.0 ROM and others can't seem to? That said, why wouldn't an 8.0 ROM be possible?

You're talking about AOSP ROM's. Those ROM's are open source from Google, not Samsung Touchwiz ROM's. Big difference. The kernels they build are not compatible with Samsung Touchwiz ROM's

Hello, I am still rocking the note 4 Verizon. And I will be keeping it as long as devoted members such as yourself put out great roms! That being said I would like to be a beta tester if you so need one. I have a little knowledge in troubleshooting and the like, mostly my expertise is in repairing and building phones. I have a whole closet that's devoted to phone parts repair, and computer systems repair. My last few phones I have held on to until the dev section went quiet, note 2, Moto atrix, moto bionic... they were awesome with deodexed/rooted roms... I am addicted to flashing new roms to find the right balance between performance and battery...
By the way, one slight request, when all said and done fixing most of the bugs, don't forget to make sure the rom has a kernel that is compatible with extended batterys. Most of us holding out with our outdated note 4, usually have those huge batteries hanging off the back...lol

I really don't mess with kernels. That's not really my forte. If needed, I would just ask someone to build one. But since there's already one available and it happens to be from Verizon source I will use it and give credit. But I may request a new kernel from the latest source once I get the rom ready.

I think I may have the CQL1 source kernel ready. I've been running it since Tues and was thinking of posting it soon. If you, or anyone else, wants to try it out you can download it here.
The source code is here for those interested.
The changes are the same as the ones for the 910F beta kernel that was posted the other day.
Change Log:
Backported the 3.18 Linux version of Interactive Governor
Add patch for USB fast charge
Add Sound Controls- so far this hasn't negatively impacted anything but it's definitely the change I'm most concerned about and will probably make a separate version without this in the future. Be careful with this. Had my earbuds in and it gets very loud.
LED fade control
Completely reworked the thermal temperature control. So far the temperature has been throttling down pretty good when it goes above the set temp. I've been setting mine on the lowest setting.
Added zswap control
Extended Battery patch is included
On a personal note, I'm very excited to see a port rom that's not built with an international firmware. If there's anything I can help with let me know. My skills are somewhat limited but every now and again I can get lucky.
Thanks Kevin. What I want to do is get the stockish base N7 ROM done then see if there's somebody who wants to take it to the next level and add mods, rom control etc, etc. I know a lot of people like the custom mods, xposed, etc but these days I really don't care for that stuff as long as everything works as it should i'm happy. So if you know of someone who could take on that task once I get the base ROM finished, then that would be great for everyone who wants the custom stuff. And I can take a break. I'll pm some of you once the test build is ready. We'll need to test the basic functions like bluetooth NFC, wifi, etc. It should all work because i've ported these roms before so I know what all i have to do. I'll get the test rom ready as soon as i can as time permits. I'm going over framework getting it debugged and making sure it's a smooth and zippy as i can make it.

I don't use xposed anymore... too much of a hassle to get through some apps that look for it and are diabled from xposed...
Couple brainstorming requests, or something... lol
the people Edge should work properly... I've had so many TW roms that are half done and people Edge is boinked..
Something with note 7 roms and task manager is buggy on note 4...
There is a fingerprint work around for ported roms, if we could get a good, understandable write up to make that work, that would be appreciated.
TW launcher should be themeable... some ports I've tried have that boinked as well.
The brightness on some ports has an issue with not dimming, or high brightness when in sunlight and darkness...
Mostly stock feel and look is quite nice though.

All of the things you mentioned will be working, except fingerprint scanner. That is a lot harder to pull off and will be the very last thing on the to-do list. If it could be made to work other dev's would have figured it out by now without the N4 settings apk swap trick. But i will definitely try my best to get the fingerprint scanner working with my verizon N7 ROM. With Kevin's custom kernel this will be an amazing ROM for the Verizon N4! It's coming along great. It's raining all day today so i'm inside hammering away on the ROM.

I kniw it's tricky with the fingerprint, I was just suggesting an easy unified post of HOW to do it on this new rom you're making

Well it's never been accomplished by anyone as far as I know. I started working on the fingerprint scanner fix for my sprint UN7 ROM but I abandoned it due to the complexity and the time it takes to do it. It wasn't worth the amount of time and work. This is why it hasn't already been done. We'll see how it goes but I seriously doubt fingerprint scanner will be working on initial release. it's probably my biggest negative on running the N7 port ROM. I use fingerprint lockscreen even though it's the swipe method.
