How do I find the stock recovery.img for my ZE550KL? - Zenfone 2 Laser Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have the 1.16.40.763 stock firmware on my ZE550KL laser zenfone 2. Before I update the firmware or root it, I want to ensure that I can go back to this version of stock firmware. To do that i need the 1.16.40.763 stock recovery.img file.
Can someone/anyone please tell me how to find it on my phone or how to extract it from the firmware file on asus.com (I can't find it on the official update file on asus.com).
Thanks

I really need it too, so if someone knows where I could find it ! Thank you in advance
I finally found the stock recovery .img / it was posted on an another thread here : https://github.com/sabpprook/android_device_asus_ze500kl/releases
sorry it is for the ze500kl, my bad

In any case, if you encounter any errors, such as that the build date of the software on your device is newer than the one you are trying to flash when attempting to downgrade, you have to delete the system partition first to get rid of the build.prop
To do this, simply head over to FASTBOOT mode, and type the command,
fastboot erase system

if you're on 23.11.14 you have to go back to 5.0 in order to update to the newest 5.1 (23.16.3).
You can also copy the zip over and flash within recovery, if you prefer. I always think sideload is easier (though actually, now that I think about it, I copied it over and flashed from within recovery myself...)

I successfully downgraded to 5.0, and I've attempted the sideload method twice and failed. Each time it says there is an error in the package, status 7. I get the same result when I apply update from sd card. Any ideas?

Be advised: some of us are discovering you can't do the OTA to 23.16.3 if you are on 5.0 46_11.11. Apparently you need to be on 5.0 46_11.10.
Use the files I posted.... That's what I used
It's necessary to downgrade to 5.0, even if I'm getting an OTA system update popup from 23.11.14?

If you're on 23.11.14 and you're getting the OTA alert for 23.16.3, then no you don't have to downgrade. Just take the OTA. You should try to capture the OTA if you're rooted

I had this problem initially as well because I downgraded to 5.0 using the official Motorola 5.0 firmware downloaded from the Motorola website, which is apparently 46-11.11.
I had to use this one-day-older version instead, which is apparently 46-11.10: TMO_XT1095_5.0_LXE22.46-11_cid9_CFC.xml.zip. I found it and downloaded it from here: http://motofirmware.center/files/file/76-tmo_xt1095_50_lxe2246-11_cid9_cfcxmlzip/
So... I downloaded the firmware from that link, followed the OP instructions almost exactly*, and I was able to upgrade from 23.11.14 to 23.16.3 successfully.
* One change I had to make from OP instructions: The pieces of system image had an extra period before the piece number, so I needed to retype those commands like this: fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0 ...etc.

anyone able to root this new OTA?
CF auto root was working on every previous OTA from 4.4 to 5.0 and 5.1 but now causes boot loops. I am able to TWRP back to the unrooted build to get me out of the bootloops.

Thanks! And no, the name is normal. The OTA filename always states the version you need to be on to install it, not the version that it contains.

Hi guys,
I have a honor 6 plus (PE-TL10), it was running EMUI 4. I flashed TWRP 2.8.7 and then wiped all partitions through it(cust, system, etc) then flashed stock recovery back, now i am trying to install EMUI 4.0.1(Android 6.0) via 3 buttons Huawei update but it stops at 5% and fails. Can you guys provide me with any help, I really need it.
Also now when i am trying to wipe data thru stock recovery i get an weird error message at almost 25% saying "reset balong modem setting fail", which making it more difficult to get back stock rom.
Just last question; the Unbrick option in the "HONOR_6_and_6Plus_Multi-Tool", wil it restore the device to stock rom and fully functional state after that or it will miss some parts of the stock rom ?
Many thanks and regards

For you to restore to stock you need to flash boot, recovery, system and cust.
Make sure you have stock boot and recovery to for forced update (3 buttons).
What happens in most of the cases is boot and recovery files are corrupt.
I would try the unbrick of the Multitool. If it fails, I would flash manually all img files for each partition. But using the same firmware version as the last installed one.
Post your results and I will try to help.
1:Extract the ROM with huawei update extractor
2:download latest minimal adb and fastboot drivers and install them
3ut the extracted system.img,recovery.img,cust.img,boot.img and userdata.img into the fastboot.exe folder
4: boot into the fastboot mode
And finally flash the above mentioned imgs one by one with this command
fastboot flash XXX XXX.img
After flashing files type
Fastboot reboot
and every thing should be fine again

Thank you for answering, I did used Huawei MultiTool and Unbricked my device. I flashed four img files(SYSTEM,CUST,RECOVERY,BOOT) and now i am back to stock rom and running smoothly.
I tried to use force update feature on my device after that but again i got the same result, it stopped at 5% and failed. I guess i will keep it the way it's now.
Many thanks; you guys are awesome!

Thank you, I did that except for userdata.img file, the Huawei MultiTool only mentioned 4 files(system, recovery, boot, cust). Now my device is running back again on stock rom. Should I flash userdata.img file or is it ok?
Just a question that i keep asking myself; inside the stock update.app file there are 22 img files, what do they do? I only flashed four of them so what purpose do the rest serve as? if the device can operate fully functional with four of them!
Many thanks,

If it works, don't change it. ?
Got similar issue on my honor 6. Can't update via SD card method or 3 button after leaving developer preview. Not even OTA updates install. All fail at 5%. So I'm stuck on B830 for now. Will try for a solution later.

Nougat update unsuccessfull

So i just got the next android update and i downloaded it right away. I clicked the install button and left it in the charger. When i came back it had booted into twrp (i have unrooted yesterday btw). i found this quite odd but is just booted to system and it seemed fine. Then it said it was getting ready to update and rebooted again. Again it booted into twrp. I booted to system again and then the screen with update unsuccessfull.

You've to be on Stock recovery to be able to intall/flash official OTAs from motoroal. TWRP is a custom recovery which doesn't go well with these official OTAs.
Flash stock recovery first & then try to update:good:

Really don't know, unlocked the device and then system has been deleted
Get the full update.app and extract system. Flash that with fastboot in bootloader.
Already tried but says the file is too large (3GB of system)
I had the same issue but there is a way in the Fastboot arsenal to send the system img in a few smaller chunks...
Edit: apparently, newer versions of fastboot do the splitting automatically!

This is alot easier because only thing you have to do is flash the file, and done! I my case your method doesn't work, it don't mean it won't work at all, but some phones are dumb and don't want to accept new Cust file!
Why would you want to downgrade? Stock Marshmallow works great...
