I tried it just restarts and there is no white logo screen

The white logo screen is only for the ZenFone 2 base models. For ZenFone 2 Laser variants, the logo screen will and should remain black. To verify whether your device hadha been truly unlocked, head over to fastboot mode on your device, and type the command: "fastboot oem device-info" (without the quotes) into the command prompt/terminal.
If it says device unlocked: true, that means your device had been successfully unlocked.
Another method is to try flashing TWRP onto your device, then attempting to boot into recovery. If it boot successfully, your device had been unlocked. If the ASUS logo just flashes and goes instantly, and then rebooting back to the system, it is still locked.

Thanks Rizzed I'll check via fastboot

Any results?

Same device and same problem
I have tried with a few "different" unlock apps and still get the following result after running
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
HTML:
...
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel:
OKAY [ 0.004s]
finished. total time: 0.004s
Also I noticed that Asus' support page from the country where the device was bought does not have "utilities" section where the unlock apk would be located. (can't post a direct link since I'm new here, so here's part of the link: asus.com/br/Phone/ZenFone-2-Laser-ZE550KL/HelpDesk_Download/)

for this version of firmware(WW_user_1.17.40.1234_20160304) it does not work.. I have tried many times ... I am downgrading to 1.16.... will check.. For 1.16, bootloader unlock works with the unlocker app for ze600kl

Does it really work after downgrading? I'm currently sitting right here pulling my hair out over this. Would be great if it really works.

Did you manage to downgrade?
I tried downgrading but failed with fota_return_code 409 ("can't install this package [date] over newer build [date]").

Before attempting to downgrade, go to FASTBOOT mode, and type this commands (in order),
fastboot erase system
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
It should be able to flash successfully now.

Thanks for the tip. Erasing system didn't work but your gave me the idea of changing the recovery partition. I managed to flash the stock version from this post. Only after the second line of the recovery screen showed "1.16" I managed to flash the file UL-Z00L-WW-1.16.40.763-user.zip
Unfortunately still didn't manage to unlock after a factory reset with the new firmware. Using unlock apk from this post:

I have been trying to unlock using the official unlock app since seven days. @Rajko said the app works sometimes. Also I have noticed that devices that were updated to 1.17 build are facing the same problem. Others who unlocked their device before the update were able to unlock BL. I even tried downgrading to 1.15 and 1.16 but no success till now. Maybe Asus has patched the bootloader with the 1.17 update and as you know bootloaders cannot be downgraded normally and can be fatal for any device. We may be able to unlock when Asus releases unlock app for Z00L.

Can confirm this. I downgraded to the oldest but to no avail.
Is there any way to downgrade the bootloader though? I really am thinking of selling this device for those high-end phones (Samsung S7/HTC 10) if there really is no solution.

The HTC looks to be an excellent choice. Their last few devices weren't up to par, and it's cost them dearly. They've stepped their game up with the 10, and I think it'll be the device to put them back in the game.
The Galaxy S7 family speaks for itself.
As for Motorola, I'd avoid them like the plague. They're horrible with updates and are getting sued right now for failing to properly honor their customers warranty claims.
Oneplus is a toss up, IMO. The Oneplus 3 could be a hit or a miss. I'm not sure when it's supposed to drop, but I'd keep my eye on it.

Interesting, I personally had very good experience with Motorola and have seen a lot of people having trouble with samsung phones.
My view on Samsung is biased though, as I barely consider them android phones. Prejudice aside , I see them as designed for people who want the status of iPhones but want something "like an android".
I hope the OnePlus 3 turns out to be good

Well, sorry for saying this, but I personally do not trust any companies from (you know which country). Their phones may pack in very high specifications at very low and attractive prices, but really, there must be a catch, right? (personal opinion)
I live in Singapore and unfortunately, I don't see any Motorola smartphones being sold at any of our major electronics store or even online.

I didn't say Moto makes a bad phone. On the contrary, their phones are usually pretty solid. It's their business practices and weak update support that turns me off, but they undeniably make good phones. Just don't expect to run the latest and greatest Android has to offer a year after release.
My opinion of Samsung is biased as well. My previous device was a Galaxy S4, and I LOVED it. It was a damn good phone that could take whatever I threw at it. And, the dev support...that phone had every ROM and mod you could ever want. The only reasons I didn't stick with Sammy were the price, and I the fact that my Samsung experience had gotten a little stale after three years with a Galaxy S4. Plus, these Zenfone variants dropped when I was ready to upgrade, and they were pretty attractive. I don't regret it for a second. Like I said previously, if Asus would drop ZenUI, I'm certain that the root community would want what they have to offer.
Oneplus is due to release a good device. I have a good feeling that they'll drop that crappy invite system this time around. If they do that and give us another flagship killer, the Oneplus 3 would be more than likely sell like hotcakes.

/!\ WARNING /!\ Do NOT relock your bootloader around the time of updating to 5.1!

Guys,
We've seen several people have flashed system.img's and OTA's and ended up in a bootloop.. Not the end of the world really, BUT for some reason, before you can unlock your bootloader using fastboot, you must enable OEM unlock in Developer options in Android settings - which you cannot do if you are bootlooping.
If you still have a custom recovery, you'll be fine but if you're 100%, locked bootloader and bootlooping, we haven't found a fix yet so please do not lock your bootloader.
If you feel you absolutely must relock your bootloader (at your own risk) please boot the phone up to check it works properly before doing this. If you intend flashing roms and kernels or custom recoveries, locking the bootloader is not a good idea
Please also see the below link provided by @efrant
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6172890?hl=en
This goes into more detail about how google have enhanced device security with 5.1 and some other pitfalls that you may wish to avoid. This is pretty salient information, so do give it a read.
Good advice, i would add to that NEVER LOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER. ???

And I would add that I completely disagree with this statement. Coming from an infosec standpoint, I keep my bootloader locked, and just suffer the reset when I need to tweak. If you don't, anyone - not just you - can replace your system partition or boot a random IMG which could inject functionality. This may not be the most common mechanism for attack as it requires physical access, but it basically obviates the encryption with a deepfreeze style boot IMG.
Additionally, when you think about this in context of the border crossing exemptions many countries, including the US, have to protections against unwarranted search, I would recommend that anyone with proprietary or sensitive business data who crosses international borders keeps their bootloader locked when not modifying the system. Also, until custom recoveries include security features, I recommend using stock.
Why are we making our phones so insecure just to have root? Not cool.
So just to be clear the correct procedure would be to boot the device after updating enable the setting and then go and lock your bootloader? Or just keep it unlocked overall.
Personally I keep mine unlocked but for those wanting to take full advantage of androids new device protection a locked bootloader would serve a purpose. Preventing someone from just flashing a custom rom and keeping your device.

Thank you for posting this...when 5.1 was dropping, I attempted to return to stock...all the way.to be able to take Verizon's OTA...when i locked the boot loader, i was stuck in a boot loop with the android guy and the gear box spinning FOREVER.....its is not easy to get out of the loop, but i managed to boot back up into boot loader mode, and force a stock image using toolkit.
I am now unlocked, running 5.1 on Verizon, have full LTE/VOLTE, can speak and surf at same time...i have not rooted yet...but just glad it was not me....had a heart attack two nights ago...

Hi root,
I saw that thread yesterday ...
I thought this was already covered when the N6 came out, to get the bootloader unlocked you had to do a 1st boot of the device and ENABLE OEM Unlock, then you were good to go to get into fastboot and unlock.
The reason was google put the option there for 5.0, vice all our previous versions which had no toggle for it.
I think it was people jumping the gun and not doing that first boot, but immediately jumping into fastboot and flashing, and that caused it, yes? Because the BL wasn't unlocked, they couldn't flash the OTA and boot img ...

This is nonsense.
You need *physical* access to it in order to carry out such an attack.
If your phone leaves your PHYSICAL access, then you already know not to trust what is on it, whether or not it has an unlocked bootloader.

Not nonsense. Yes you need physical access to carry out the attack, but with a locked bootloader and the new precautions against unlocking and fastboot it makes locked bootloaders fairly bulletproof.
I cannot recommend unlocked bootloaders to anyone that works SCIF'd and leaves their phone in a shared box during the day, anyone that crosses international borders, or anyone whose phone might contain IP or trade secrets and could be a target of theft.
This is as much about trusting the phone afterwards as it is about protecting your data on the phone - even when encrypted.

Nexus 6P on boot loop after an OTA update

Hi There,
My colleague complained that he had an OTA update on his Nexus 6P and the after the update it was stuck in a boot loop where the Google logo keep on displaying.
When he bought back, he had showed it a shop already which they said they couldn't fix. However, the phone was later given to me for help and I have somehow manage to connect the device on fastboot and adb. Tried all the possible options such as unlocking the bootloader, loading .img's one by one... sideloading... etc.
No matter what I do, it keeps on doing the same boot loop. And when I leave the bootloader unlocked, it gives an error at first, then again goes back to the same.
Not sure whether what I am doing wrong or whether am I choosing the wrong build or so... would anyone care to advise?

So the bootloader is unlocked? Exactly which build have you attempted to flash with fastboot? Have you tried flashing one of the full OTA zips with the stock recovery?
PS. Whatever you do don't lock the bootloader. And don't worry about the warning you get with the bootloader unlocked, that's normal.

Thank you for the reply.. I have only locked the bootloader when I'm done with flashing... etc as it was giving me error. Regardless of the bootloader state, it kept on going through the bootloop like it didn't care.
I tried to flashing the factory image which is MTC19T and also tried the OTA which is MTC19V as said in here.
Still there's not luck!

Don't worry about the warning and definitely don't lock the bootloader because if it gets stuck locked you'll really be screwed. Go to my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
Follow the instructions in section 10 (use the latest MTC19X build). Skip the part at the beginning about performing a factory reset because you can't actually get the phone to boot to do that. Make sure you include the "fastboot format userdata" command at the end (this will erase all data on the device). Leave the bootloader unlocked.

Yes, sire! I did all the possible things I could do without harming or bricking the device... Read each and every instruction carefully to do... but turned with no luck... however, I'm due to try the method and build you have suggested, I shall try that and get back to you!

It probably won't work, any build should work, but it's worth a try. If that fails I can only suggest flashing TWRP recovery and trying to flash a custom ROM to see if that works.
So long as you have the bootloader.img and radio.img files, you can try to format boot as well, however Heisenberg may yell at me for even typing that
I had a similar issue - bootloop, but it was getting to the boot animation for about 3 seconds, then rebooting. When I formatted all the areas before flashing them from the stock image, it allowed me to boot up as normal. Stable ever since.
Hi There,
Coming back to the issue, I have just downloaded the build that was suggested by "Heisenberg" and tried it. It was still the same, as in the Google logo keep on flashing but the android bot just appeared once with the logo. But still there not luck as the device stays with Google logo but does nothing.
However, I'm able to see the device on fastboot. Nevertheless, I cannot seem to use adb command.. it doesn't even list on devices. Does that mean the adb isn't working?
Meanwhile, all my fastboot commands are working with no issues at all.
EDIT: When I tried the TWRP recovery, I can flash the recover, but I can seem to go to the recovery window at all as the device keep on showing "The device software can't be checked for corruption". When I pass that also the same boot loop.
I too am having the bootloop issue on my stock Nexus 6P. Is there a way to unlock the device from the bootloader? I'm unable to carry out step one on Heisenberg's guide because I'm unable to actually boot up my phone past the Google logo. Am I pretty much screwed?

Unfortunately yes. Unless you enabled OEM Unlocking in the developers menu before your phone went sideways you probably have a hard bricked phone. Is it under warranty?
I went through this in November with a completely stock Nexus 6P. I was 3 days past my one year warranty! Google would not send me a new phone. It was completely bricked by the OTA update I received! I was put in touch with Huawei. I had to send the bricked phone to them. 10 days later I received a working model back. Unacceptable that an OTA update trashes a one year old $650 phone. Luckily I had my OnePlus One still, and was able to use that while I waited. I was even able to update that to 7.1.1 since it was rooted. Obviously there is some sort of issue that we are not being told of regarding the dangers of accepting OTA updates on a stock/bootlocked phone.

Bootloop issues are common on the 6P even with custom ROMs--it just happens to be much more likely you can recover with the custom ROMs installed since the bootloader is unlocked. I think it's a hardware issue with the 6P rather than an OTA issue. It's probably not an accident that Huawei didn't make the Pixels.
Doesn't seem right that I have to "void" my warranty and install a custom ROM on an unlocked, rooted phone in order to recover from a hardware defect. That's BS pure and simple. I want to use the latest software, that's why I bought a Nexus. I want to use all the conveniences like Android Pay. That's why I don't unlock or root anymore. I rooted every Android phone I ever had until now, starting with the original Motorola Droid. Now that security is so important to Google, and you can't use all the Android features with an unlocked bootloader, they need to step up to fix these problems.
This happened to my wife's phone, sent back to Bell. Will see what happens.

Unlocking the bootloader doesn't void the warranty on the Nexus 6P. If you are under warranty then just RMA the phone if an OTA bootloops your phone. It's your choice whether to keep the bootloader locked or not but if you keep the bootloader locked it's probably impossible to recover from a bootloop. Google keeps factory images for Nexus and Pixel phones on its website but you can't flash those images with a locked bootloader. Why would they provide the images if using them voided your warranty?
You are missing my point. If I unlock my bootloader so I can recover from a boot loop that may happen, I will no longer be able to use a huge feature of the phone. Android Pay will no longer function. In days passed the rumour was your warranty was void if you unlock. I assume that was started to keep people from doing it. All I know is I paid good money for a phone that is a disaster waiting to happen it seems.
If having an unlocked bootloader is so important to recover from a bricked phone, why do they lock it in the first place? And why won't Android Pay work with it unlocked? The answer is that you no longer have a secure phone if you unlock the bootloader.

I think you bought the wrong phone. Nexus devices were never available commercially through carriers and were made for developers and people who like to flash things with their phones. There are ways to use Android Pay with an unlocked bootloader if you are so inclined. You are right that an unlocked bootloader is considered less secure but if you only install apps from Google Play or another trusted source you shouldn't have problems. You can also simply enable allow Oem Unlock in the developer menu. This doesn't actually unlock your bootloader but makes it possible for you to unlock it via fastboot if you get bootlooped and need to flash a factory image to restore. This way you can unlock the bootloader in an emergency but your phone is still secure. I think this should be enabled by default when the phones are shipped. Too many people with locked bootloaders end up with hard bricked phones where the Nexus 6P is concerned. Honestly, you would probably be better off selling your Nexus and getting something else that's more stable and made for people who have no Interest in flashing anything.

Does unlocked BL automatically mean root is possible.

I've always been a Samsung fan, but this phone is packed with features I like. With samsung , unlocked BL then twrp, then flash SU..done. is LG a little different or is it Nouget that is making the process harder or even not possible? Any thoughts from any LG veterans?

Did you get the phone yet? Try to unlock? I think i saw you involved over at the s7 edge root thread when i was watching that right? The things I'm going to have to get used to is power button and no physical home/back buttons however if root is achieved and maintained through FW updates I think this phone will be the best out there and development for LG should rise.

No.. thought I was getting it today via UPS... Guess I was tracking the wrong package lmao (stoner moment)... The G pad X came today instead... Lammmmme!!!
LG blocked fastboot commands since MM so the standard would usually be Unlock BL, flash recovery then flash SU.
But its not the case anymore.
Now its Unlock BL wait till an official.tot or .kdz to be released or leaked from LG, then repack it with root or a recovery and flash via LGUP or LG Tool.
just curious, what do you need root for?
phones nowadays come great out of the box. just disable what you dont need.

Does someone really need to want to root his phone to be on XDA? There's a whole lot of learning and shared experience going on out in those threads and there's not one rooted V20 to be found.
The fact of the matter is, a lot of people who come to XDA shouldn't be allowed anywhere near an ADB command or a one touch root.
On my short time with the Note 7, XDA showed me that it really wasn't smart to root that phone. Rooting broke too much of the stuff I used, and the developers didn't get enough time to iron out those problems. If they root this phone, I won't be doing it to mine until I see how all of the problems shake out.

I think that's a good opinion. Mine is I want to be the administrator of my $800 hand computer. Not tmobile. Not LG, Samsung , or anyone else. I bought it. It's mine. If I want to block ads, or change the color of my clock then I should be able to. I agree on waiting for bugs to be fixed, but being able to flash a backup or backed up app is a nice feature. I miss the days where root came easy and we owned the rights to our devices. It's bull5hit!

Amen to that lol! Do you know how long does it take to restore every single app when you dont have titanium backup installed and your device rooted? (i have 113 user apps in my lg g3), you can easily take up to 2 hours installing and setting up. while when you have titanium, you can sit there and drink up your coconut juice while it does everything on its own and everything already set up, and it is pretty quick too. Also, i hate ads. unless the benefit me (that's how i found out about the LG V20 lol) Not to mention that many of the ads out there are either scam or viruses . Also, rooting is the way to really owning your device. a device is not yours until whatever thing you want to do can actually be achieved because you (the owner) wanted to and not because the company wanted to. :good:

Lol you might as well return it now then. Beucase i doubt it will be done that quick. I mean, i bought this phone because of its great features. And even though i like to root, flash, and all that, well, i have set up my mind in a balanced mode and said "well, chances to get root are 50%, sure i like to root my phone but probably it wont be possible ". To be honest i usually wait about 3 month before buying a new released smartphone because by around that time, they usually have root and have gotten bugs already fixed. But i couldnt resist the offers on this one LOL. so, if it doesnt get root, i will stuck with it for a while anyway.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. My V20 is sitting all pretty on my desk. T-14 days before I return it if no root. Been rocking the OnePlus 3 with an awesome ROM since the first Note 7 recall. Absolutely loving it. Got the V20 only because of the screen, camera, and supposedly better sound--all of which are probably marginal upgrades compared to OP3 especially considering it's well over twice the price.
V521 didn't have root until update was released. I grabbed and uploaded the ROM, and soon rooted .dz was there.
Confirmed: Similar to T-Mobile LG G5 there are not flash commands in fastboot to write a new recovery. Will need someone to create a TOT file to get us TWRP and root I think.
confirmed that I have unlocked my t-mobile bootloader also. TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
booted into fastboot mode by
a) powering down the device
b) putting the cable into the PC USB drive
c) hold down - volume down button, insert USB-C cable into the phone.
d) check the USB drivers in device manager.
e) I manually installed USB driver using the google USB drive from SDK tools 2.2 (LG drivers may also work)
f) cmd, run as administrator, changed directory to my adb folder
g) fastboot oem device, listed my device (so im good to go)
h) [FONT=&quot]fastboot oem unlock (doing such will erase your phone)
I) fastboot getvar unlock[/FONT]
j) fastboot reboot
device boots with security warning (ie bootloader unlocked), boots fine, clean device
went back into fastboot tried to compile a basic TWRP using my v10 TWRP as a basis....fail on my coding skills ( I am still learning)
using command fastboot boot XXX.img

Don't get your panties in a bunch. It was a simple question. I come on here to make money. I fix phones for a living and I come here to fix what people attempting to root broke and brought to me to fix. If you don't want to root, you don't have to. If you do, then by all means root your phone. No need to be a **** about it.

Can someone run this:

I will most likely root my phone when the time comes. I am not against rooting at all... I rooted all of my phones except the Note 7. What I'm saying is that root isn't for everyone, not everyone should root their phone even if they think it's the thing to do and that I think there's a place at XDA for people who don't want to learn ADB commands.

How do I root an SM-T377V?

As far as I'm aware, this device (Verizon variant of the T377) has a locked bootloader meaning that getting custom recovery is out of the question. Does anybody know of any way to root this tablet, or of any way to unlock the bootloader?
I need to be schooled.
I know this is the Verizon model and that complicates thi b a but I rooted my Verizon s7 with Odin (prince comsy), and with that I struggled with the same thing I struggled with here. Finding an image for my specific build number. With the s7 I eventually found an IMG that seemed to be one size fits all G930X boot.tar. I tried with other builds from cf auto root before I had found this image with no success. I found images specific to sprint T-Mobile at&t G930T, G930P, etc. No G930v for Verizon. But this G930X worked perfect, well, a few bugs, but worked really well. How could an IMG be modded to be a one size fits all type thing for this tablet? I realize the Tut's for this tablet involve flashing a recovery.img rather than a boot.img but the process can't be much different or more difficult could it be for modding the T377P (sprint) .img to fit the T377V (Verizon) model ? Or am I comparing apples and oranges here? Could a dev give me a quick 101 on this ? Any help would be really awesome.

There's no development because nobody cares enough to try to crack open or otherwise work around the locked bootloader for this device. I got rid of mine years ago for a Tab S4.
Well ****! As I give Samsung the middle fingure and want to run over it with a steam-roller, smash it with a sledge-hammer and shoot it with a 12 guage, then send it to them in itty bitty pieces. My bad! I didn't even look to see if it had OEM Unlock..Drat!
So in response to Casper's post, my T-377V is showing OEM unlock and it activates. I am not sure what that means only is it just false hope? To be honest, this tablet was rescued from the recycling pile and duly erased.
I don't mind taking chances with it b/c I have nothing invested in it. I really haven't gone anywhere with this tablet b/c I have read so many conflicting opinions.
Anybody have any suggestions, I would be oh so grateful.
Its a fake unlocked with false hopes, I own 3 verzions and even tho its says unlocked it really is not. The only thing you can do is flash oem 5.1.1 and temporary root with king root that's about all you can do just enough to side load commands to uninstall blotware and clean it up a little bit.

As far as I know that answer would be a no. Combination files are for repairing firmware (in a sense) and not changing OEM status. I wish it were easy to change carriers because T-Mobile devices usually allows me to unlock the OEM. I have since moved on from this device and currently use my S10 Plus or the Samsung Note 10. Good luck.

Enable ADB and OEM Unlocking
To execute any tweaks on your device, you will first have to unlock the device’s bootloader. All Samsung devices shipped with a locked bootloader. So in order to perform the unlock process, you will have to enable the OEM Unlock Toggle. Along the same lines, near about every major modifications, calls for the execution of the ADB commands.
But for that, your device needs to be recognized by your PC in the first place in the ADB Mode. In which case, you will have to enable the USB Debugging toggle. The thing with both these options is that they are baked deep into the Developer Options which itself is hidden. So enabling both these toggles calls for a lot of effort. Well, not anymore. Using the Samsung Combination ROM, you could easily do so without any issues as such.

On the LG V40 if the frp partition from a phone with the OEM lock flag triggered is dd'd to another device, the bootloader will allow unlocking, additionally, the ftm partition on the v40 seems to carry the imei so I assume the same is true for the Pixel, I'd understand if you didnt want to share that partition but I think if the phones imei registers as a Google store one, that could help trick it into working.
Is there any way an exchange can be done here for the Verizon software that enables WiFi calling, volte, voicemail, and video calling? Is that Verizon software out there somewhere? If you guys are trying to root and unlock vzw phones you'll be wiping and starting with a fresh phone anyway. Is that a good time to extract these files and provide them?

No offence but,why are people still trying to unlock/root the "unlockable/unrootable" variants of this phone? Its like what 3-4 years old? Like i get trying to root/unlock them when they 1st come out even though like come on you should've known by now. But now there are way better phones. Everyone is offering good deals for trade in's. I think its time to give up.
I would not have even rooted android 10 if Google music had a dark mode. (literally the only thing i use root for now) Oh and to fix the things google ****ed up like the lock and unlock sound and battery sound.
