Please bring back the power option to enable apps to run in background. - Remix Ultratablet General

Because Remix OS does not allow app processes to run in the background, it is literally impossible to see my list of owned apps on the Amazon Appstore. Remix 2.0 will not allow whatever background processes need to run so that the list can synced from the cloud. In previous versions I would just enable the app to run via the power options menu but unfortunately it was axed from 2.0. Please consider bringing that back so that apps that need to run in the background to work properly can and do.

are you sure you are using the remix ultra-tablet and not the remix mini?
you want that the Amazon Appstore app never get killed by the system?
by "power options menu" you mean the power manager application?
Thanks you

Both my mini and remix ultra work fine on Amazon currently. The Ultra was unable to use the Amazon app store until a version or two ago.....I have got it syncing and Amazon instant video has downloaded 25 titles for an RV trip I have coming up. Glad it finally was working again. Now if they would make the miracast that was touted during the kickstarter work again that would be great...also Chromecast Google casting does not work....hard to present without a connection to a screen like a laptop has.
My amazon appstore version is 20.0000.912.1C_650000010
Not the amazon underground version.
I do hope they bring the power management app back into the tray and allow users access. It is there under settings/apps/ you just can't do anything with it.

Yes, I am using the Ultratablet with Remix OS 2.0.
I want Amazon Appstore to always run in background so it can sync properly.
Yes I mean power manager app. It is hidden on 2.0.

Please bring back the power management tool, thanks!!!!!!!

Stop updating apps?

Open play store, settings, turn off "auto update apps" should do the trick.
Heads up though: after some turmoil within the Kodi team, and Jodi's ever increasing frustration with box sellers and them catching heat for third party addons..... The lead developer(only developer) responsible for Android version left the team. Kodi didn't want to continue supporting Android versions in future releases so.... He left.
He did however, resume his "SPMC" app which is a fork of Kodi with many optimizations and feature improvements specifically for android devices. Can't find it on the AndroidTV or Leanback Play Store. But if you goto PlayStore on a PC, and search for "SPMC" you will find it and can click install, then select your Nexus Player. It will install in just a few minutes. Will show up on your AndroidTV homepage.
Alternatively, you can web search "SPMC" and goto its website and download, view changelog, etc.
It also now supports Android TV suggested content on the home screen. This means that if you have movies/TV Shows added to your library, they will appear as suggestions much like the YouTube app, or Hulu, or Netflix, etc.
Pretty cool feature?
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Will any of the kodi add-ons work with his new program or is this a totally different thing?
It is a Kofi fork, which means it is built from the same open source code from Kofi. He essentially left Kiri and took his plans and optimization ideas and is continuing the work as SPMC. Yes, all addons will work just the same

Thanks for the info, I didn't even know this program existed and yes the addons work great.

A tad underwhelmed

Been playing around with my new ultra tablet for a few days now and I'm left scratching my head as to what all the hype is about. I wanted a laptop/tablet hybrid for watching netflix keeping up with emails, facebook, and document production/wordpress stuff. It was to replace my asus c100p chromebook as I was becoming frustrated with the lack of apps. Now I find myself having much the same frustrations despite having access to loads more apps.
Basic security functions don't seem to want to work. For instance, avast doesn't work. I have to open the app to run it so no scheduled scans can run. Lastpass password manager won't work - I have to manually open the app and c+p passwords over which doesn't always work first time. My vpn doesn't start working on boot.
Widgets don't work. Third party launchers won't work. Anything that needs to run in the background doesn't work. This includes apps like twilight (reduces eye strain and exposure to blue light) and lux dash (manages screen brightness) don't function at all. Apps that require accessibility service to be switched (third party keyboards, rotation control, lastpass, avast etc.) on are constantly switching themselves off.
This is my list of apps that don't work at all or have severely limited function: Agent, Amazon appstore, Avast mobile security, Cal, Device manager, ES file explorer (won't let me download), Fleksy, Google cast, Google now launcher, HD widgets, Linkedin, Facebook messenger, Mi fit (won't find band), Google photos (can't bulk download), PIA vpn, Stumbleupon, Swiftkey, Twilight, VLC, Whatsapp.
Right now I'm finding it hard to understand what the point it. It's like Jide have taken Android and stripped it of all the best bits. And not being able to root is just stoopid. It's my device so I should be able to choose whether to risk bricking it or not.
Has anyone found any solutions or workarounds for any of the above apps?
I really want to like this device but I'm thinking I might send it back. Is there anything on the horizon that might encourage me not to?
And now I'm having posting this! I smell a rat! Especially as they are pulling their discussion forums - too many complaints methinks.

Easily temp fix. Install the REMIX OS 1.5 factory image. For reasons unknown the 2.0 image lacks the power manager app, which allows you to whitelist background processes and fixes all the problems you listed above. The app will be added back in remix OS 2.5 but for now downgrading is the only solution.
1.5 images have play store trouble, for me its unable to see my paid apps.

Root is easy, at old Jide Forum there's a cwm 6.0.5.1 and instructions how to use it, with this you can flash SuperSu. For me 2.0 has terrible lags with everything and the lack of PowerManager (Power Cop) don't let background apps running like External Keyboard Helper Pro

Google eating through Sewage tank called Android System WebView. help..

Hello scholar buddies,
Yes google is eating through sewage. The Android System Webview app keeps running even when I have disabled it. It shows in the disabled apps' list, it shows disabled, but the force stop button is active time to time when I check. Yes it still runs back secretly even when disabled. This is a new sewage trick by google. Obviously for phone home stealing. How hungry one can be?
Non rooted xperia. Android 5.1.
What should I do? Any solutions?
Thanks.
Either root and delete it, or stop using that distinct browser.
Also, its not for any kind of theft. It allows your browser to display web functions which would not normally be shown due to programming limitations.

Hello buddy,
Havent rooted the phone yet, because I am waiting for a final update that will feel wholesome. Then I will root.
I have dissabled the Chrome and stock web browser, along with the Android System Webview. Isnt it suppose to keep itself dead when you have disabled it? But it wakes inside the Coffin, isnt it suspected to be definately programmed for some hidden purpose?
How did you disable apps without root?
What does 'pm list packages -d' show?

Possibly; but l guess it's ROM dependant a: if there is a disable button in app settings and b: what said button actually does.
Checking the disabled apps with the pm command listed should at least show if it's been disable via the package manager.

Yes, almost half of the system apps have 'disable' option activated without root. When apps are disabled they are totally non existant. Other apps depending upon them, either crash, or ask to install the particular needed app. No other(non-douchebag) app will pull out any disabled app. After the number one douchebag app 'Google Play services', 'Android System WebView' seems to be the douchescum sidekick.
I disabled many. All the apps obay the disabledness, except Android System WebView. It shows disabled, but poops out from time to time. After a while or the other when I check the app info, there you see the 'force stop' button is active again.

It still could be that the app isn't fully disabled; perhaps the 'disable' just turns of as much services/activities as possible.
Have you checked the pm command? (You can run that in terminal without root...)

DON'T TOUCH IT! DONT DISABLE IT !
Let me explain why?
The WebView is the system organ that manages the application that run internet (except chrome or Firefox )it allows the app to connect with Internet.
So find the application that is culprit try : Gsam

Its a Myth.
I already DISABLED it. And all the apps run and connect fine without it.
the purpose of the app is to render webpages for apps that don't have a built-in browser. An example would be google login page, which is web based (likely for security reasons) for when you want to allow an app access to your google account. It doesn't even have its own internet permission. Nor does it have any other hidden abilities. Think of it as an HTML Viewer for modern internet implementations. Definitely not a phone home app and definitely not as douchebaggey as the rest of googles apps. here is screenshots of the apps components http://imgur.com/a/CzW8r

Thank you for the report )
Good wishes for you.
But there is still the question-
Why does it run anyway, even if disabled? Why this bullysh act? If I am disabling important service (according to google bots ) , then stay disabled and give me errors in the system. Why run back?
I know I am going to nail it with root, but still raising the question.
Sounds an awful lot like you are being unreasonably paranoid in a slightly uneducated fashion frankly. I have it disabled on my non-rooted phone and it would take more than a Force Stop button being non-grayed out to worry me. Rather than jumping to conclusions and displaying hysteria symptoms why don't you actually confirm that is or is not running in the running processes.
Logic. It works.

Change Amazon Fire TV's Default Launcher (NO ROOT)!

Hello everyone!
In the Amazon Fire tablet community a member (BaronKiko) made a program called Launcher Hijack. It works really good on the Amazon Fire TVs. If you do not like ads and bloatware, it hides them pretty well. I installed a TVLauncher3.1.0 apk and Launcher Hijack v3 and it does the job!

Very interesting for those friends that won't/can't root. Do you know if v3 sees AppStarter/FireStarter as a Launcher or only as an app ?
---------- Post added at 06:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 AM ----------
Well just tried it on a non-rooted FTVS1 & the single Home press worked great with AppStarter. Now Launcher Hijack v3 & AppStarter did take a long time to start from a device manual restart. And it did not go into AppStarter by itself at bootup (had to press Home). But once I had let enough time pass. After hitting Home AppStarter started to load from that device restart. But there was no way to tell when it was ready (when LHv3 had started).
Very good non-rooted option. Only minor tweaks left to make it great.

The default launcher does not show up. Other apps installed that are launcher-eligible will pop up as options. It works good and is basically an adblocker.
As soon as it is on, I just hit the hone button. It works 1/10 times, if you see fire launcher just press home again. It is very lightweight and doesn't take much time at all for me.
Works well when it detects a launcher app (TVlauncher and Unwind launcher, does not detect HAL). TVlauncher works best but I need to exit it everytime I need to watch something through Prime Video. Other launchers dont work well (Unwind does not show half of the apps that I've got installed). Will have to wait for root if that ever comes in order to get Leanback launcher.
The default launcher does show up if you uncheck hide system apps in the settings .
This app takes about 15 seconds after fully booted to kick in and that's fine by me. Thank you very much.

Yeah, the only thing I might request the author is to add an option for auto-Home press when it is activated or specially when it boots up when a device is turned on or restarted. Since other then waiting 10-15 seconds after restart/activated there is no way to know when it is fully on. There should also be a way to a way to control the double/long home presses. But this is a SOLID App as is.
Tested choosing non launchers (Kodi, Downloader, etc.) & that never worked. So I am not sure what is the purpose of letting you see the other non Launcher Apps if they can't be used. I did installed the SPMC Launcher APK & that worked perfectly. You can get the latest SPMC Launcher option from:
http://spmc.semperpax.com
Just go into the "More downloads at: link " & choose the launcher version for your device.
Most of us (FTV1, FTVS1 & FTVS2) need the ARM v7a (32bit) & only the FTV2 & FTV-TV need the ARCH64 Launcher versions.
can i find a way to make it work with halauncher?? any ideas to make it work with this??
Just published a new release with full support for Fire TV's: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fir...ck-v4-t3877467

Bit late to respond but It should also work with any app now, the non-launcher option was there before because some launchers don't get filtered correctly when they work just fine.
Also it does perform a home press at boot. Always has done if you enable the accessibility service. Thinking about it on the version you have been using that's probably not the best idea but now it should all be good.

[APP][FIRETV] Accessibility Permissions Manager for FireTV Devices

Accessibility Permissions Manager
Hi Everyone,
I would like to share with you my app which you will only need if you want to use apps which needs Accessibility Permissions to work.
This app reduces the hassle to enter the commands to set those apps up and is created to be used on FireTV Devices.
Instructions:
Enable ADB Debugging on your FireTV.
Open Accessibility Manager.
If you are on FireOS 6 or 7 then you will see a prompt to Allow ADB Debugging, Click ALLOW
if app shows Connection Failed Disable then Re-enable ADB Debugging.
Sometimes reboot is required, and if you are still getting Connection Failed, there will be System Update ready to install
Install that update and reopen Accessibility Manager.
If everything goes fine, you will reach the Main Screen where you can Allow and Deny other Apps.
After that you can Disable ADB Debugging to be on safe side, you will not be needing that anymore.
If you are on FireOS 5, follow the on screen Instructions,
you will need a PC with ADB on it, or you can use Remote ADB Shell on other Smartphone.
after following the Instruction reopen Accessibility Manager and you are good to go.
NOTE: APP WORKS ON OLDER VERSION OF FIREOS ONLY.

On/Off Sleep mode auto starts Wolf Launcher, but hard-reset brings original amazon home screen. & pressing home button on remote still brings me to OG home screen (amazon) launcher.
Please anyone tell LaunchX method in OP is still working as of 16 Aug or not..
Because after doing everything for me it's not working.. Amazon launcher keep coming back after pressing home button on remote!!

Seems like the latest Amazon Update broke it again. we have to wait for the developers
Yes, mine also FTV4k did an update last night going from 6.2.7.1 to 6.2.7.3
Now Accessibility Services: Stopped.
Home screen button back to default UI
Yup same here, just got the same update last night. So Accessibility workaround to enable a custom bootable application [like launchers] stopped working.
Hopefully @SweenWolf can work some magic and get us another workaround.
No longer working on fire TV is 6.2.7.3 any idea Wolf?
I used to use an app that enables another apps accessibility just by opening it. But I can't seem to get it to work for techdoctoruk's firetv settings.
https://github.com/oathzed/BMsettings/blob/master/bmsettings (1).rar
Even though I put this in the main activity :
const-string v3, "enabled_accessibility_services"
const-string v4, "com.wolf.firetvsettings/com.wolf.firetvsettings.HomeService
Is that not where accessibility service is located?

I know many have received the update and it broke the apps, but I too am waiting for the update, without looking it myself i cannot say anything.
Amazon pushed out 6.2.7.3 on August 17th for the FireStick4k. It's a slow rollout though. I have it in Canada.
Same here, in Canada. I have 5 Firestick 4K. Two of them have updated to 6.2.7.3 (and broke the Home button of the Wolf launcher) and the other 3 are still on 6.2.7.1 and when I click to check for updates on those 3, it says that they are up to date. So I'm not sure it's a regional thing as opposed to maybe which have been registered first or some other order of operation... I ended up rooting the two at 6.2.7.3 and was able to figure out how to make work in a "round about way". Dang, hopefully soon you'll be able to debug, or if you need me to help debug anything Im hear.
Any hope on a fix Sween? Looks like accessibility doesn't fully seem to be the issue. I cant get my button mappers to find any key codes.

you do know that Accessibility service is the services which gives back the "key codes".
And yeah, I cannot bind my service to the system, the only problem, there isn't any other problem.
In short Accessibility Service is doomed for FireOS. Unless it isn't because VoiceView still works.
I had no time to fully understand the issue, i was held up, i will look into it tomorrow, Night.

I have accessibility enabled on the button mapper though. I'm not getting thrown any error saying i need to enable accessibility. On my other keymapper it also says accessibility "enabled".
Well that sucks. hopefully you can figure something out tomorrow. cheers man.

It doesn't matter what the keymapper is saying, the Methods aren't returning.
