Can't flash stock ROM through ODIN for my Note 3 N9005 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I'm having some trouble when I tried to flash my Note 3 with CM13 but it seems like can't associate with gapps because it will crash. My note 3 is currently on CM13 but without any gapps. I decided to flash it back to original stock rom but ODIN fail.
it says:

Another copy of STOCK ROM?

Yes and odin
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA-Developers mobile app

Odin is failing when trying to flash the bootloader (aboot.mbn) so either the rom isn't for the phone or the bootloader is too old.

Already try another copy of Stock ROM. But it keeps failing. So how to solve the out of dated bootloader?

This also happened with my GN3 with stock dutch firmware. Don't know the reasons... ^^
Try to flash a N9005XXUGN1 or N9005XXUEND3 kk firmwares (not dutch) to downgrade first to KK, then you could try upgrading to any other Lollipop firmwares...
Seems to me it's impossible to change or upgrading from Lollipop to another Lollipop. I always had to downgrade first to KK before upgrading to Lollipop so if you used CM13 it should be a bigger problem...
PS : BTW watch at your CM13 settings if a OEM unlock option is activated or de-activated...

Will try to download the KK ROM since the file is too big. But then where to find the OEM unlock option?

Isn't the oem unlock option available on the nexus 5x and 6p?

Try take out your battery 1st, then use 3 button combination to go to download mode.
Also try another usb cable as well..

I have never seen the oem unlock option on a cm rom. Doesn't the oem unlock relate to the bootloader? The n9005 has never had a locked bootloader.

With a locked bootloader, cwm, twrp, and ROMs not based on a Samsung kernel could never be flashed to the phone.
The inability to cross flash firmware is due to security checks built into the bootloader to ensure that the ROMs being flashed via Odin is made for the particular phone and not because it is locked. Think of it more as a safety feature.
In some of the Samsung phones, older firmware can't be flashed as the bootloader on the phone cannot be downgraded.

Try the Sprint forum .

What is the exact model # of the phone shown in download mode? Was the phone new or used when you got it?

It is an import version. It is unlocked when I first buy it. And now it relocked after I flash back to Stock ROM

[Q] Flashing stock Android

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I'm kind of a noob at this forum stuff and I'm posting here because I need serious help.
So now you'll probably cringe and maybe even get mad at how much of an idiot I am after reading this but here goes:
Last week I rooted my phone and flashed the leaked 4.3 update for the S4. Nothing went wrong so I got curious. I'd heard of cyanogenmod before so I decided I'd try that. That worked too. Now the problem is that I'm not really liking CM so I decided to unroot/flash the stock rom. This is where it gets bad: The tutorial I used for the rooting didn't tell me to back anything up. So I don't have any backups of my own stock rom.
I did some digging and found multiple pages with stock rom links but none of them are of my country. I've tried flashing the 4.3 again but Odin always says "FAIL!" What the hell do I do?

Have you tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
Don't worry about it not being from your country. You can change the CSC to your country's later but first get your phone working.

What do you mean? I can just download a random country's firmware? In another thread it said to not do that. I followed this tutorial and download the HOME.tar file the guy uploaded but I got FAIL almost instantly on Odin.
Go to Sammobile, download the latest stock firmware for your country and flash using Odin.

If you are worried about the different firmwares, then you can get your country's firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9505&pcode=0#firmware.
Please note that these are the latest firmwares and likely to have the latest bootloader and hence the Knox problem. So it's upto you.

[Q] Galaxy S4 (i337) on 4.4.2 Rooting/Recovery Issues!

Hello everyone,
I hate to be the person that joins a forum with an immediate question without having contributed anything previously, but here it goes: looking for some advice from experts on this one. I have an AT&T Galaxy S4 i337 that I recently updated to KitKat 4.4.2 - worst mistake I've ever made, not only do I have constant problems getting GPS locks now, perhaps the most aggravating issue is slow charging. It can take upwards of 7 hours to charge to 100% and I've tried everything including new cable and new battery. The phone can be plugged in and charging and still discharge until it dies. This issue surfaced immediately after I updated and, based on other information I've seen on XDA and other forums, it seems entirely probable this is a software issue since a lot of people seem to have the same problem. Plus, I'm getting tired of TouchWiz.
So I've decided to go towards SlimKat custom ROM hopefully to rectify some of these issues. However, I've had major problems at every step especially being on 4.4.2 (and what I believe is the newer firmware MF3?). Here is a summary of what I've done:
1) Tried rooting the phone through the XDA tutorial on this subforum where you use Motochopper, CF root and all of that, I forget the exact issue but it never worked. I tried for quite a long time.
2) I finally got the device rooted through Towelroot, which I had suspicions about because it was so easy and quick, but after installing SuperSU and RootChecker it's working like a charm!
3) Installed TWRP without success through GooManager... it would download and hang or say successfully installed but wouldn't ever boot into recovery.
4) Tried installing SafeStrap and as soon as I downloaded the lastest version and tried to install it from the app/GUI it would say install successful but the state would be listed as Not Installed
5) Moved onto ClockWorkMod which I had success with in the past on my Samsung Vibrant and CyanogenMod several years ago. I tried flashing recovery from the app and while it says it's sucessfully installed, once again I boot into recovery and I get an blue Andriod for a split second then a dead looking Andriod with a No Command error given. It boots into stock recovery, and it has the custom unlock logo under the samsung POST (or bootup) screen but won't launch ClockWorkMod.
So that brings me to where I am at now. I got the latest GS4 drivers from Samsung, made sure Kies was not installed, went through countless processes/cables USB ports (made sure they weren't hubs obviously) and I keep getting the same error when I try flashing ClockWorkMod for the i337 right from Odin3. I get:

I know the Galaxy S4 i337 from AT&T especially with KitKat 4.4 is notoriously hard to root but I'm on my last nerve with this phone, I wouldn't be so frustrated if the stock OS didn't have so many issues with the update. When in Odin, I tried getting an SGH-i337 16GB PIT file and still got an error so that's not working either. No idea where to go from now, and sick and tired of waiting for AT&T, Google, and Samsung to come out with a fix and network-pushed update.
Please help!!! :fingers-crossed:

SGH-i337 has a locked bootloader. That prevents us from replacing the stock kernel and recovery. The only working recovery we have is safestrap.
The bootloader also prevents a downgrade unless the versions are compatible. NB1 and NC1 are compatible and so you should be able to flash the stock NB1 firmware using Odin.
Since you have root already, you can install safestrap after setting SELinux to permissive mode. Use the selinuxmodechanger app from play store for that.
All things AT&T thread.
So I would have to downgrade to compatible NB1 using ODIN (once I do the step you described) and then from there could I flash a custom ROM such as SlimKat? Would safestrap work in NB1 even though it doesn't work in the current firmware?

Since you successfully rooted with towel root, I guess your firmware is NC1.
You do not need to downgrade to NB1. Your safestrap version should be 3.72. Are you sure your safestrap is not working. To go to the safestrap you simply restart your phone. You do not need to go the recovery mode.
You have locked bootloader so you can not use the custom kernel or AOSP rom like Slimkat. You can only use the TOUCHWIZ roms.

Ok,following instructions here: www.androidrootz.com/2014/03/how-to-unrootunbrick-at-galaxy-s4-sgh.html?m=1
Internet is really slow, 1mbps, so started 2.2gb file download and will try it when it finishes downloading, probably tomorrow. Going to post here if it works. Well, July 4th, going to do fireworks later on. Happy Independence day for all of you in U.S!

Remember what I already mentioned. Since you are on NC1, you can only flash NB1 (as they are compatible and we dont have a full NC1 tar file). You cannot flash MK2.

Ah okay understood, thanks for linking me to that thread I will look through those Touchwiz based roms. I was hoping to go to a Google Play Edition ROM too but from what I'm reading a lot of things don't work on it.
Thanks again everyone for your knowledge and advice. In reality do you think flashing a custom Touchwiz based ROM will address my issues or should I just downgrade to NB1? And is there REALLY no way to unlock the S4 bootloader on GSM devices? I thought someone did it on a CDMA version recently.
UPDATE: I should have reread the first post, after installing SELinuxModeChanger and setting it to permissive, I was able to get SafeStrap to install and boot properly.
You need to have selinux in permissive mode. Use selinuxmodechanger app for that.

Yeah with the combination of TowelRoot, SELinuxModeChanger, and SafeStrap I now have a rooted phone with a recovery installed, what ROMs do you guys recommend that are TouchWiz based for the i337 NC1? I'm looking through the list and not seeing much.

All the ROMs listed in the all things at thread will work.
Yeah, with hesitation I ended up going with a Google Play Edition ROM to get rid of touchwiz and man did it work well, my only minor annoyances are wifi (as was warned) and the face that MMS pictures are compressed WAY too much when I send them. The charging issue got marginally better but the battery lasts a lot longer without bloatware and the interface is super sleek.

Every time you reboot the phone, you will lose WiFi. You can recover it by soft rebooting the phone.

Help changing from custom rom to legit update (Samsung S5)

Okay so to keep it brief, I am on alliance rom v5.3, running kitkat 4.4.2 on my Samsung S5, recently Lollipop has come out and I would like to update.
this was my first custom romming so needless to say I'm kinda scared, I am pretty sure I can find out how to flash to another custom rom but how would I go about getting to the default so that I can accept normal update? or is there a custom rom that is usually kept updated? (I am a sucker for having the latest version of things)
Also is there anything I should know about going from one custom rom that is rooted to another? or is it exactly like going from stock to custom?

just look for stock lollipop rom for your phone ( sammobile)/and flash with odin, just make sure to do a full wipe before flashing the stock rom
Thanks for the quick reply, will this allow me to get future updates? like hotfixes released and stuff? I saw somewhere that once you flash it does something to the kernal which makes updates possibly brick the phone.
Just factory reset the custom, then use ODIN to flash the Stock ROM
Flashing the stock ROM will allow OTA updates so long as you don't root or flash anything else custom like recovery - it needs to stay 100% stock for OTA
But you can still root, and each time an OTA arrives, grab the new ROM from sammobile dot com and use ODIN to flash it, that will update your phone, leaving everything in tact, all your data and images etc will be fine, only thing you'll need to do after updating is root the phone again
Thank you both, I have found my phone model on sammobile but the list of firmwares there is no Australian firmwares(Im Australian) or even any US firmares, the only primarily english firmware that I can see on the list is for the united kingdom? are those what I use or am I missing something? Sorry if I should know this =\
Edit: it shows that I have the G900F under Model number in the settings.

At this stage I have factory reset it(it automatically booted after so I turned off) and I downloaded your G900FXXU1BOE5_G900FOXA1BOE5_G900FXXU1BOE5 file and put that in the AP section of odin.

At this stage I have factory reset it(it automatically booted after so I turned off) and I downloaded your G900FXXU1BOE5_G900FOXA1BOE5_G900FXXU1BOE5 file and put that in the AP section of odin.

Are you sure you had the phone in Download Mode?
Volume DOWN & HOME & POWER (Then volume up when asked)
And yes, disable Reactivation lock before flashing anything or you'll end up with major problems requiring a massive mess on to fix
Using ODIN 3.10.6 ?
think you need pitfiles with the rom
Yea it was in download mode and I have never heard of this reactivation thing :S the instructions I read had nothing like that in there, any other settings I should change? luckily it booted fine so ill look into changing that.
Edit: Using Odin 3.09 Also I checked and reactivation was disabled.

Yea I was wondering the same
Try this OP

Load it into the PIT section along with the ROM in the AP section together and try again

There is no pit section inside of Odin 3.10?
Edit: Nevermind I found it but it says not to use it unless im an engineer, how badly will this screw me up =\ Im kind of scared to.

There is on the lower left log / options / PIT section, although clicking that says to load it into the CSC section
Try using the PIT file with your 3.09 version of ODIN first as Im not sure where 3.10.6 wants the PIT file loaded into, it's not very clear
Okay in 3.09 there is a pit up the top where I can put it but but there is also a csc? which one am I supposed to put it in?

Put it in the PIT section
I'm just reading up on what 3.10.6 means with that engineer warning
Make sure you load the stock ROM into AP together with the PIT file in the PIT section before flashing
I tried using the rom in the AP and the pit inside the PIT but now its saying secure check fail : pit =\
attempted with odin 3.09

Are you running ODIN as Admin? (Right click > Run as Administrator)
Using a native PC running Windows? All Samsung drivers installed?
It almost sounds as if your bootloader is locked, but you managed to flash custom recovery and root right?
Yea I do have custom recovery and a custom rom and had rooted it. although inside the about device section it said I was using G900F I noticed the download mode said G900I so I searched for my old box and on the box it says it is a G900I so I assume the rom I used modified the model number, could this be screwing with anything?

Looks like you need to grab the G900I ROM and PIT
I'd try with just the ROM first, hopefully ODIN saved you from bricking when it realised it was for the wrong model phone
Get the G900I ROM, stick it into ODIN like you originally tried, see how you go from there
EDIT - Now it makes sense why there was no Australian ROM for your G900F, there is for the G900I
Okay, good news is sam mobile had the correct firmware now that im using the correct model number(doh) and the phone still boots fine, will update when I have downloaded and tried it, thanks for sticking with me.

Help: Galaxy S4 sgh-i337 AT&T . Trying to install a different ROM

Ok, making some progress after 10 hours digging it. kind fun to see how this makes me look dumb.
I want to install a new ROM on my sgh-i337 . I rooted the motha foka, tried to install a different ROM with Odin and somehow it crashed.
I was trying to install ( is this even the word?) the old OS back and it wasn't working. I switched the USB port ( comon, what da fuu!) and it finally restored the phone.
Great. Now that I know how to undo the sheet, I want to try something better ( yeah... again, next level stupidity.).
I can't install twrp (twrp-3.0.2-0-jfltexx.img.tar to be more specific) thru Odin , it fails
( <ID:0/005> recovery.img
<ID:0/005> FAIL! (Auth) )
So I was thinking about installing I337UCUAMDB_I337ATTAMDB_ATT.zip, trying to install twrp again with Odin ( aparrently that's the problem right?) to finally follow this guide ( [www cyanogenmods .org/forums/topic/update-galaxy-s4-att-nougat-7-0-aosp-rom )
and get my phone to survive a few more years ( at this point is just easier to buy a new one).
I appreciate any help !!!

If the phone has a 4.3 or newer bootloader, you can't install TWRP because the bootloader is now locked. No TWRP mean no custom ROM that needs TWRP for installation.

Hi, i have a GS4 i337 att, with android 4.4.4, what options i have to flash a custom rom, or upgrade to 5 and root. Sorry im new with GS4. Thanks in advance
You cannot flash any roms from Sammobile.com using Odin now that that the phone has a locked bootloader.
I would run ota updates until the phone is running the latest ROM. After that, I would consider rooting, installing safestrap, and a custom ROM that can be installed from safestrap.

rooting using what method? safestrap can be installed on the latest ota update(OK3 afik)? And will using safestrap, to install a new rom, leave your old rom in place so that both are taking up space on the phone?
@valavicius yeah, samsung/att really f*ed us all when they locked the bootloader, and then released a new firmware that locked it down even further. If you're lucky and you have a really early firmware that's never been updated or the i337m you're still good to go, though.
I don't think Samsung is to blame for locked bootloaders. I believe it is something requested by AT&T. AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint as they are are the only carriers that have phones with locked bootloaders. Furthermore, AT&T never locked the bootloader until 4.3 where as all other carriers have updated via OTA to 5.01 without ever locking the bootloader.

Hello,
Sorry for my poor english. I have sgh-i337 at&t with android 5.0.1, with bootloader OC4 so I think is locked. As I understood I can flash my phone only ROMs which can be flash by safestrep. Is thay mean I don't need unlock bootloader? And what is ota? Do I need update it? And Can you recommend some ROM with polish (europe) language?
Regards
Jactra
You can only flash roms with safestrap and you do not need to unlock the bootloader. The bootloader cannot be unlocked and I don't recommend using any software to try and unlock it because it could brick the phone.
OTA means over-the-air.
I don't know which ROM will have Polish so you'll have to check the ROM forum for the ATT S4.

Thank you for your reply. So do you think I can without any risk of brick my phone flash it for example by this guide (part for safestrap)?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/development/guide-to-install-custom-rom-i337-att-t3483736
And one question: If I have OC4 do I have to flash with files kernel, modules and firmware OC4 or I need only install chosen ROM (SuperWizCyan)?
I don't have the AT&T sgh-i337, I have the sgh-i337m which is the Canadian version of the s4 with an unlocked bootloader; therefore, I can't comment on the safestrap method as I have never needed to use it. Flashing custom ROMs on the Canadian s4 is done using TWRP, not safestrap.
There is always risk chance that something will go wrong during any flashing process. You just have to make sure you download all of the necessary files to unbrick the phone before flashing anything.
I am sure there are some YouTube videos on how to use safe strap.

[RECOVERY][STOCK S8+] G955USQS2BQL1 - Galaxy S8+ SM-G955U SPR Spint

In the S8 firmware Samsung are now providing 5 files.
Here is how to install an S8 firmware
Phone preparation:
1. Download and install Odin on your PC
2. Download firmware below
3. Download and unzip your firmware (do not use WinRAR as it can give errors)
4. From your download put these files into Odin:
BL
AP
CP
CSC (not HOME_CSC)
5. Now look at the Odin Settings (for this select Options)
F.reset time
Auto reboot
6. Installing another country CSC or a network CSC will need the system partition size changing.
For this select Options and add this setting
Re-partition
7 Put phone into Download Mode and connect to PC .
When the Odin ID:COM box changes color press START
Download link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-I2ZyNfyN4JCdcRO_ugkrxJ_sh-088z8
I download the official firmware from Samsung directly using this software (samfirm _v0.3.6) and use the most recent ODIN-v3.13.1, newest firmware for my Sprint S8 is G950USQS2BQL1 from January which my phone updated to G950USQS2BRB1 which must not be in a full firmware yet, just an OTA update it seems.
I got 6 files in this downloaded file(SM-G950U_1_20171206185327_w3c9ywqj6i_fac.zip.enc4) which are:
AP_G950USQS2BQL1
BL_G950USQS2BQL1
CP_G950USQS2BQL1
CSC_OYN_G950UOYN2BQL1
HOME_CSC_OYN_G950UOYN2BQL1
USERDATA_SPR_G950USQS2BQL1
What I learned is (HOME_CSC) does not wipe your data, but the (CSC) will just like a factory reset, so with this in mind
If your just upgrading your stock firmware and want to keep your Data,
then just flash these 4 files....
BL (bootloader)
AP (System)
CP (Radio)
HOME_CSC (Region)
To Wipe your phone and bring it back to Stock like brand new out of the box first time powering it up.
Flash all the above but replace (HomeCSC) with (CSC) and add in the (USERDATA_SPR) file too..
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS backup your stuff first.. I use Smart Switch to backup all my Samsung devices.
Does it lock my phone to sprint

The 5th number from the end in firmware/combination files is the bootloader version aka BL, they must be equivalent and or higher than your current bootloader. So you cannot flash BL 3 firmware are you flashed BL4 combination file, you must resource BL4 firmware or above to and you will be good to go.

Sorry I dont get it at all, Im trying to understand. Let me see. The combination file I installed its BL4, so the stock firmware must be BL4 or above to allow the Firmware to be flashed on the device?

Sounds like the partitions are different with the file you flashed and the stock sprint firmware. I sometimes tell Odin to re-partition to get back to stock along with the nand erase option checked as well. Just a thought... its how I get a screwed up flash back to stock, but you need a stock sprint firmware not a combo file. if you have twrp then your not stock at all and flashing a stock firmware will replace it back to original.

I sove it with the G955USQS5CRF5 file from Verizon, seems that it its compatible with the Spint firmware. I flashed with Odin, and make a FactoryReset at Recovery menu. That fixed it!
Good evening,
None of this worked. I followed the steps to a T. Put all files in and received this error? What am I doing wrong? I tried rooting my Sprint G955U and that failed. Didn't trip knox, which says 0x0 currently, but disabled fingerprint id, face recognition, samsung pay - says device has been rooted. In about section, specifies "official". Also, a new update just came out a few days ago in August, 2018. I tried to update and that failed as well. I put all these files in odin and it failed pretty quickly. Please help me restore my phone. Please see attached photos. Currently, running Android Oreo.
Serious help!
