Phone is stuck after trying to encrypt - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I installed this ROM on my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-neo/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-s3-neo-t3099384
Notably I used the 20151111 version. Everything worked fine. I did however decide to try to encrypt the phone. Everything looked ok, but now the phone is stuck at booting. Notably, at the "Starting apps" stage of the boot process. Unfortunately this is too early to get a logcat. I already tried wiping the cache partition, doing a factory reset and reinstalling the image.
Any ideas on how to unbrick the phone?

Reinstall stock rom via Odin btw encryption screws up the phone in every aspect I recommend not doing so

[ROGERS SGH-1337M] Wont Reboot Without FULL WIPE

INFO: I rooted my device last night and installed TWRP using GooManger. I tried tested two different Roms. The first one was Google Edition 4.2.2 - v1.3 & the second was GoldenEye. Both Roms Seem to function properly. My Device is SGH-1337M ROGERS
PROBLEM: When i reset my device, even after a clean install, my device gets stuck during boot. I've tried going into recovery and restoring backups from this point and they all fail. The only possible way to get out of this boot freeze is to Wipe entire internal storage. At that point, the phone will reboot. This does not appear to be a boot loop as It just shows "Samsung Galaxy S4" and won't budge (seems frozen). I have no idea what the issue is but i suspect it may have something to do with the kernels provided with the Roms? Any help would be much appreciated!

Which ROMs are you installing? On I337M your best bet is T-Mobile ROMs and Kernels. I have Bell I337M and have no issues.

Are you wiping with TWRP? I heard there are issues with using it to wipe and restore or loading a new rom after wipe. Just restore using Odin and then load a new rom (or restore a backup) without wiping. See if that solves your problem of bootlooping

i just went through this all last night what a pita , problem is twrp , if you do a full wipe when you type the word yes , you can only bootup 1 time then it gets stuck next time you boot , theres no way to fix it , even going back to old version of twrp wont do it , you have to compleatlly remove root and return to stock , re root and install twrp again , then if your luck your nandropid backup will work , it took me 5 hrs to fuger this all out , stupid twrp drove me nuts .,...
in short , return to stock and reroot , then never do a full wipe where you have to type yes

[Q] GT-I9505G will not boot, even after restore. Help please!

Hi, thanks for looking at this.
I have a Galaxy S 4 Google Edition phone. I rooted it, and I have TWRP 2.5.0.2 running on it. I have backed up my system a few times.
I tried flashing a rom of cyanogenmod for the first time today, cm-10.1-20130801-NIGHTLY-jfltexx.zip (http://get.cm/get/jenkins/36550/cm-10.1-20130801-NIGHTLY-jfltexx.zip)
I wasn't having any luck with the boot, so I turned to this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370101, which utilized a modified updater-script. That still was giving me no dice, so I tried editing the updater-script myself. Cyanogenmod boot-up appears! . . . and then it just keeps spinning. I turn off phone, boot into custom recovery, factory reset phone, try again. Same deal, try it again. Factory reset again, then I try restoring my device so that I can try again with different parameters. TWRP says that the restore is successful. This turns out to be not true, however, as when I reboot, the Google logo shows up, vanishes, and then nothing happens.
This is where I'm stuck. I can boot into TWRP, but that's it. Everytime I try to wipe dalvik or data, it fails. Restores supposedly work, but they don't, no matter if I'm restoring just system, or system data and cache. I have tried mounting my sd card so that I might load another rom, but even though TWRP says "USB Storage Mounted", nothing happens.
I'm completely at a loss here. I simply can't afford to brick a $700 phone. This is crazy.
PLEASE HELP

PROBLEM FIXED!

[Q] Can't wipe or factory reset encrypted phone

I made the mistake of encrypting my phone and am now paying the price. It is rooted and I had installed the Google Edition 4.4.2 ROM by Danvdh, Kryten2k35 & Ktoonsez. I'm using TWRP 2.7.0.1.
I first tried going into recovery and doing a factory reset and got the an "Unable to mount '/data'" error, followed by a big red FAIL. So I rebooted into the system and tried to do a factory reset from there. Went through all the steps, phone rebooted into recovery and I got the same error - unable to mount.
So I did a bit of searching on the forums here and someone had suggested using the format option in TWRP. So I did that and it seemed to work - did not get the dreaded unable to mount error. So I tried flashing the new rom (the updated version from a couple of weeks ago). Got a message indicating it was successful. Rebooted, and to my dismay, got the prompt for the encryption password. Saw the little line drawing Android, then... nothing - I found myself in brick land.
Managed to get back into TWRP and, based on another post I found, tried Advanced Wipe, selecting everything except Micro SDcard and USB-OTG. Tried installing the new ROM again, says successful, but nothing has changed - I still boot into blackness after inputting my encryption password.
Not sure what else to try. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Can you go into download mode, revert back to a stock rom (or flash a stock one or something) and turn encryption off? edit: on further research it looks like the only way to completely unencrypt is to reset your device. dunno if that's something you'd want to try, but considering you already wiped multiple times.. i'd say try it?
Also what carrier do you have? That's pretty important. AT&Ts i337 and Verizon's variant cannot flash AOSP roms (more specifically, kernels) due to the bootloader being locked. That might be the issue you're experiencing? I looked up the ROM and it's using ktoonsez kernel, so I imagine that'd be why. Someone just made a version that does not include the kernel and has multiple issues the ROM you're trying to use fixed here.

Thanks - that's exactly what I've been trying to do. I haven't tried reflashing back to stock with Odin though. Hmmm...

Bell, up here in the Great White North. I don't think locked bootloader is an issue - I was on the previous version of Danvdh's ROM, and everything was hunkydory. I just made the unfortunate decision to encrypt. Big mistake.
May try flashing back to stock. Nothing to lose, at this stage...
Thanks!
Hey just wanted to mention for the benefit of anyone else who got into this bind, flashing back to stock using Odin did the trick. Still wouldn't boot, but then I rebooted into stock recovery and did a factory reset, and finally was able to reboot back into stock. What a nightmare. Ugh. Thanks for the tip though - never occurred to me to try to go back to stock. Lesson learned though - no more encryption for me!

Good to hear. Should be able to flash to the rom once again no problem now that it's unencrypted!

ATT S5 Active (SM-G870A) bootloop issue...

The phone hasn't been rooted or otherwise tinkered with and is currently on android 5.0,.
Recently the phone has started boot-looping (never gets past the black S5-Active screen), though it strangely works fine while on the charger. This seems to have started when it tried to download an ota update from att a few days ago and the install failed.
I've tried using odin to flash it back to stock and start over, but odin seems to always fail, i can boot into stock recovery just fine and it will stay there once you get there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tried clearing the caches from recovery?
yes, have cleared caches, and wiped data/Factory reset. neither seemed to have any effect.

Help - G935A stuck on AT&T Logo - 3 vibrtations

For a week my G935A worked fine... direct out of the box I flashed ENG Kernel and Rooted, then installed apps and configured - no issues.
Today it was working then it hung on wake.. I tried to reboot and now it gets stuck at the AT&T logo and vibrates 3 times - over and over
I can get to Odin and Recovery screens easily so I tried to flash the ENG Kernel again & deleting Cache Partition few times - didnt fix it.
Also tried booting into Safe Mode - it never gets there, stays at AT&T logo.
When I go into the Recovery menu, I see at the bottom, in red... "dm-verity verification failed"
Anyone know how I can recover from this without Factory Reset? It took 6 hours to reinstall and config all my apps - really want to avoid that.
thx for the help!
as far as I know there is no way to fix and save your stuff. I had the same problem with G930A and even doing a factory reset would only allow my phone to boot but then I get apps crashing and then a reboot puts you back at ATT logo and the vibrates. Best to ditch the whole engboot and go back to stock until a more stable rooting method comes out.
Some searches shows posts that say using Odin to flash HOME_CSC without having to wipe and everything survive
... Where can I get HOME_CSC? I dl'd stock rom and dont see it in there.
thx!
Same here this morning on my 930A w/ PK1....went to watch a youtube vid and everything google related began crashing.
Only been on engboot for a couple days but did flash the v15 debloat last night. hmmmm.
Any luck with the files or procedure LivinOne?
Update: Flashed the PK1 CSC and got into recovery.
Wiped cache and reboot, same failure mode....sad face.
Flashed CSC again, into recovery, factory reset, wiped cache.
Back to setting my "new" device up.
Dec 30 update: Same crash, SEMI same problem.
I get the single vibration followed by the 3 vibrations after I put my pin in from a restart.
Same symptoms prior, all background activities began crashing.
Running all PK1 files from QRhinehardt post.
Any thoughts?
I ended up wiping and flashing the T-Mobile firmware and using the ENG bootloader (but not rooted yet). It is WAY faster than the AT&T was. I've only had issues with Wifi Calling (it doesnt seem to work most of the time)
s7 at&t
Hi, did you first flash with eng bootloader and then tmobile rom? I miss this step...I appreciate your help please
Single vibration followed by the 3 vibrations
Hi, were you able to fix the problem? I'm also getting the single vibration followed by the 3 vibrations.
Do you know why is this occurring? I performed a wipe cache and factory reset but still nothing.
