Actually I tried to root, and I got myself into serious trouble, I tried with flashing Su.zip from TWRP, by now I can't see my internal storage, except 4 GB only, while the rest I can't see in phone explorer nor by Hisuite not even from MTP from TWRP
any suggestion to my problem.?
Concerning the ROM I guess It is quite good with so much advancement over Lollipop or EMUI 3, but due to an error I put myself into also, as I flashed first the B503 with the wrong file (unzipped the update.zip and used only the update.app in the dload folder) so run into a bootloop and a lot of attempts till I was able to flash the boot.img, recovery.img, system.img, usedata.img, cust.img, cache.img of this builf B510 and finally was able to boot into andorid but without wifi and bluetooth, i cann't turn it on even, and now after the root I lost my internal storage from 32 to only 4 GB......I'm in hell man

Try the unroot, enable USB debugging, open SuperSU/settings and make full unroot, reboot. For EMUI 4.0 SusperSU standard does not work well, you need to use specific SuperSU for partitions of EMII 4.0. Try SuperSU V2.67 in moltitool. To find in moltitool / File / SU

actually i used the su 2.67 then I used the latest stable from chainfire v 2.65, and now I returned to flash the su v 2.67...and now as per your advice I'll uninstall all the super user and see what happens?
Yes, try uninstalling SuperSU, making full unroot and reboot

done but unfortunately the internal storage is the same as 4 GB,
On xda there is a backup of B510 for your device?
PureNexus H791 using Tapatalk
I made a backup from the TWRP before the root and after the problem I restored it but it didin't help in regaining the missing internal storage, I shall search for the backup you mentioned in XDA and shall I restore it with TWRP too?
Where you made the backup? In the internal memory or SD?
PureNexus H791 using Tapatalk
in the internal memory
You must copy the backup in sd /TWRP/Backups, after go to into TWRP, do a factory reset, advanced wipe, wipe dalvik cache, system, cache, data, cust, internal storage. Restore backup.
Before doind this, In twrp backup select storage: Micro SDcard
Check in the SD if is present the folder: TWRP/Backups

sorry but I'm little bit confused, what do you mean by sd, the internal sd card, or the external sd card, knowing that the only internal memory shown now for me to choose, names internal storage from the ROM interface

I just make a new backup (a new backup after the problem of loosing my internal storage) and made a full wipe as you said, and restored the old backup (the backup before the root), and still my internal storage is 4GB only instead of the original 32GB
Please let me give you my full story:
- I was on the Russian ROM PE-TL10C900B334, and it was so good, and I tried to update to PE-TL10C900B503, but unfourtionaltly I made it wrong by unzipping the update.zip and took only the update.app and put it in the dload and made a local update, and the phone enetered in a boot loop.
- I tried to flash by SD and 3 fingers method all the known ROMs with no use
-Then I managed to unlock my bootloader and was able to flash boot, system, recovery, cust, usedata, cache img files from the C185B510, and finally the phone booted, also without the 3 finger method, but i found the wifi and bluetooth can't be turned on and the mac address shows zeros 02:00:00:00:00
- I flashed the new 2.8.7.0 TWRP recovery by Multitool and tried SU v 2.67 and then the stable v 2.65, then and TWRP offered to install the SU again and I aggreed, and after that I tried again the SU v 2.67 you told me about and then the full unroot and the full wipe and the restore, but I'm still stuck with only 4 GB internal storage and without wifi nor bluetooth.
- A note might be helpful, in the backup folder of TWRP it named my system to be PE-TL10C900B510, while the ROM is Different it was originally PE-TL10C185B510, is this change from 185 to 900 make any sense in my complicated problem
thank you for your time and effort my friend

[Q] Newbie questions (don't kill me Im new!)

Hy there I love xda and im a new user to xda nexus forum
With excelent guides I learnt how to root unlock and install custom rom (quite easy let it down into your internal storage and install from zip)
but I have few questions..
When I tried to wipe data and cache I accidentally did factory reset which ended up in no installed rom, internal storage empty and I was in custom recovery and I couldn't connect to computer, so I had to start from 0... last times I've been selecting wipe data and cache.. but I seen that in my nexus 7 some old files are still there (under a folder called 0) What should I do to make a clean install? which option of the new recovery should I choose? thankyou

I'd flash a stock recovery image onto your device available here which would restore your device completely back to stock (with your bootloader unlocked) From there I'd just re root and do what you want. However I'd personally use CWM Touch Recovery myself, but I just like that recovery more (have used it and the non-touch version for ages and on many devices)

I actually have Team Win Recovery Project..
under wipe I can find
Cache
Dalvik
Factory Reset (This is the one I use.. but It leaves in my internal storage with a folder called 0 and my old data from previous roms is stored there)
System
External Storage
Int. Storage ?
Format Data (I did this and I lost everything except TWRM which I could boot at it (but I had no option to install from zip neither couldnt transferr a file through usb mount sd card didn't work))
Which one of all of this should I run before doing the install zip from sd card?

I think it would be easier and cleaner if you restored back to stock before trying to re root, flash recovery, etc. If you have no important data on your device I'd go for it. If you do have important data, then try and pull it to your computer and then flash a stock image and re root etc.
I always find that in times when my device is screwing around, or I have file dregs around the place, I find it simply easier to backup important things and flash a stock image.

[Q] Accidentally Wiped /data, Stuck in TWRP..

Well, it looks like I unintentionally wiped the /data partition using TWRP right after I did my first backup after rooting. Now I obviously can't boot since system, data, cache, etc. are wiped. The backup I just made was also wiped. As others mentioned in the TWRP thread, it's a bit different for the Nexus 10 compared with other devices - out of the 11 android devices I've had I've never done this!
Anyhow, can anyone a solution to getting a ROM back on my device? I can't seem to mount anything to my PC using TWRP. I can get fastboot working, but not ADB or file system mounting.
Thanks
Ehm, does the Nexus 10 have a ad card? If yes, use another phone to put a Rom on it and then flash it trough twrp

can you use adb to push a rom to flash?
TWRP allows you to adb sideload ROMs. Google TWRP adb sideload and it'll walk through the steps. You can also search the Original Development section and find MSkip's toolkit which I believe can flash ROMs and whatnot from your computer. It will also automate installing the proper drivers if that hasn't already been done.
Thanks for all the help. ADB wasn't working in TWRP - I believe it was a driver issue on my PC though. However, as jellydroid13 mentioned, I was able to use fastboot to flash the stock 4.2 image from google, and then boot up from there. Thanks again!

Add me to the list of people who have wiped data over 9000 times in CWM and after updating to twrp and doing it there, have lost everything. I have backups, but am having no device found with adb sideload and suffice to say im a little confused. Confused why "wipe data" and wipe SD card and wipe SD EXT all do the same thing.

+1 here
(i'll look for an OTG cable^^)
i had a similar problem several days ago
used ADB sideload to flash ROMs
why adb anything when like jellydroid said you can use fastboot and push all partitions and restore to stock?
I'm facing a similar issue but my device is Moto G5s Plus.
The problem I'm facing is that I accidently wiped out the mobile's system completely, and now it does not even have an "internal storage" partition at all (since it shows 0 MB). Hence, I cannot even transfer any files to my mobile because my computer does show the phone detected but no "internal storage exists".
Please help me out..

TWRP Question

There is option in the wipe section that says clear data, if I did clear the data, will I lose just only lost my internal storage data (games, apps, moives, etc) or I'll lost everything( The entire ROM)?
If you format data, you'll loose everything. It will wipe data/media which stores everything you've put on the device. This includes sd card because it is actually stored in data/media. Normally, Factory Reset is used when you want to change roms which have a different base. I recently formated data on my GNex because it had become corrupted & I want to start with an "out of the box" experience. Wipe Data, & it will wipe everything! If you do need to use that function, put a rom, gapps, & all other data you want to keep on a storage device & mount it within twrp to flash those items.
Suggest you go to Team Win's website & study the functions.

When they say wipe data, I have always done factory reset. It keeps your sdcard intact. To do a full wipe, I have run through the top row of wipes in the wipe option: cache, dalvik, factory reset, system. If I'm wrong here, please let me know.
Format data will completely wipe your data off the N10. For example, if you download a rom to flash then go and format data, that rom will not be there to flash

Yes, using sideload within TWRP combined with adb sideload as originally listed by tcrews here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2144385&page=3
This is how I applied the OTA and it worked flawlessly. My system was Stock 4.2.1, Rooted, Unlocked, TWRP.
I sideloaded the OTA like this:
1. make sure you have the latest SDK drivers for android installed on your computer.
2. download the OTA to your computer (I renamed it to JDQ39.zip to make typing easier)
3. install and run OTA RootKeeper on your tablet to protect your rooting.
4. connect to your computer, boot to TWRP recovery, select Advanced, Sideload, swipe to begin
5. on the computer enter "adb devices" to make sure you can see the nexus.
6. on the computer enter "adb sideload JDQ39.zip"
7. after all is done and the nexus reboots, restore Root with RootKeeper, and TWRP with GooManager.
8. verify all is well, then make a new Nandroid backup of your 4.2.2 system.
Good luck

Most custom ROMs format it before installing (/system holds well, system files) for a clean working folder. No damage.

Format data formats what would be user installed apps, saved settings; Wipe internal storage formats /data/media, which is another path for /sdcard, /storage/sdcard0 and so on.

How can I install Oxygen OS 5.0.1 with an unlocked bootloader?

Good day!
Our country just received the Oxygen OS 5.0.1 update.
How can I install it with an unlocked bootloader?
I was going to relock it but I found out that if I did, my data will be gone.
The only difference in the set-up of my phone from a stock OP5 is the unlocked bootloader.

What do you mean?
I tried to update my phone using the normal way but after downloading and tried to install it, it failed because my bootloader is unlocked.
I just made a backup of data using codeworkx recovery. Copied the backup (Along with the files on userdata I wanted to keep) to my PC.
Wiped all and formatted data. Then installed Oreo and copied back the files and data backup from the pc to the phone and restored data with codeworkx recovery again.
Then flashed magisk 15.2 and rebooted.
Everything working fine now.

The only difference in the set-up of my phone from a stock OP5 is the unlocked bootloader.

I managed to flash Nougat without locking my bootloader. But I also had to Format the Data partition to make it work. I used Titanium Backup to backup the data of the Apps and Myapplist to make a list of the apps. After installing Oreo I only needed to spent 1 hour to restoring the app data.

Hello, I'm interested in the same thing.. I have oxygen osv4.5.x received notice for is 5.0.1 and want to install. I have an unlocked bootloader and am also rooted w/magisk. I want to keep my unlocked bootloader and root after upgrading. I also want to do a "clean" install.
Can anyone provide detail instructions, including best back up method of data and links to any files needed (twrp, magisk, etc) thanks

This is what I did:
Downloaded OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_028_all_1801031502_04d7cc5. zip, twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img and Magisk-v15.3.zip.
Rebooted to TWRP and installed the Codeworkx TWRP using the Install->Image option inside TWRP.
Rebooted to TWRP again to make sure that my TWRP was updated.
Entered WIPE from TWRP main menu and used the 'Format' option to Format the Data and typed 'Yes'
This deleted my Internal Storage so I had to backup everything beforehand.
Then used advanced wipe to wipe Cache and Dalvik.
Mounted the internal storage by using the Mount option from TWRP main menu.
I was having problem copying files to the internal storage so I rebooted TWRP and the problem was fixed.
Copied the OnePlus full update and Magisk zip file.
Installed the OnePlus full update and Wiped Cache and Dalvik and rebooted the device to make sure that the OS boots.
Then rebooted the device to fastboot to flash Codeworkx TWRP again because it was unavailable.
Booted into TWRP and flashed Magisk.
I am now on Oreo and I hate the way Ambient Display looks right now.

I honestly dont see a big difference yet, but only had it for two days. Feels a bit snappier, my signal a bit stronger, and probably an improvement with battery life. I had issues upgrading but then again I flashed the wrong version of magisk. I think the most important thing is the latest android security update.

Hey, thanks.. I will update later today. I see you provided which version of twrp (twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img). But what is the difference between the version you noted and the one I found (twrp-3.2.1-0-oreo-8.0-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img)
I want to make sure I have the correct version.
Thanks again

You can ask that question on the TWRP thread. May be they can answer it correctly. I guessed that twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img was for both Nougat and Oreo and that is why I used it. So, if you want to be sure you should ask that on a TWRP thread.

Hello, I was reviewing the process and just downloaded everything onto my computer and transferred onto my phone but have a few questions regarding some of the steps.
* Rebooted to TWRP and installed the Codeworkx TWRP using the Install->Image option inside TWRP
** Can I update TWRP via the official app and is that version of TWRP okay to use over the "twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img"
* Entered WIPE from TWRP main menu and used the 'Format' option to Format the Data and typed 'Yes' / This deleted my Internal Storage so I had to backup everything beforehand.
** How, what and where did you back up your data? Because later you mentioned "deleted my Internal Storage". I am guessing that because the OP5 does not have an external SD card everything is wiped and the new OS 5.0.1 needs to be saved onto a computer and then re-transferred back onto the phone. I am also guessing that the backup will need to be saved onto a computer as after wiping the phone it would also delete that file too, correct?
* Mounted the internal storage by using the Mount option from TWRP main menu.
** I am assuming that this option after the data wipe is self explanatory?
* I was having problem copying files to the internal storage so I rebooted TWRP and the problem was fixed.
** This is what makes be believe all the files should be on a computer. How did you reboot and when you did, does it go directly / back to TWRP?
* Installed the OnePlus full update and Wiped Cache and Dalvik and rebooted the device to make sure that the OS boots. / Then rebooted the device to fastboot to flash Codeworkx TWRP again because it was unavailable.
** I am guessing here that once OS v8 is installed the TWRP img is no longer on the phone. I would need to transfer the TWRP back onto the phone then re-flash? Could I just install the TWRP official app and flash that way?
Thanks

You have to flash TWRP by going to fastboot mode .
If you are rooted only then the TWRP app works

Yes I am currently rooted. Once I flash the new OS will I still have root access to use the TWRP official app? Is that why after flashing new OS you need to flash TWRP via fastboot?
What about the backing up? I also have full titanium, thanks.

Hello, I followed the following instructions:
4. Entered WIPE from TWRP main menu and used the 'Format' option to Format the Data and typed 'Yes'
6. Then used advanced wipe to wipe Cache and Dalvik.
7. Mounted the internal storage by using the Mount option from TWRP main menu.
8. I (also) was having problem copying files to the internal storage so I rebooted TWRP and the problem was fixed.
9. Copied the OnePlus full update and Magisk zip file.
I went to install the update w/in twrp and now I get an error message:
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/oneplus5oxygen_23_OTA_028.....
What happened? Anyone please help...

I received the following tip
"Wipe data and then copy the rom full zip flash it boot it to the starting screen then boot to recovery and then flash magisk ,you will see no errors."
But this makes no sense to me.
I have formatted my phone / wiped data / have the full rom & magisk on my "/sdcard" / went to install zip via TWRP, selected the rom and received the error message.
I decided to just go and upgrade via OTA and that failed. My phone has rebooted back to stock
what am i doing wrong?

Internal Storage Decryption problem

Hi.
I have huge problem. I have Redmi Note 7 with xiaomi.eu (Last stable MIUI 10 version). Today I decided to update it to latest version (MIUI 11). Before it, I made backup via TWRP and then perform update. Update successfull. I thought that I prefer MIUI 10 so in TWRP perform wipe dalvic and cache and make restore backup. Backup succesfull. But... System wont boot up. In TWRP I cant see internal storage (0MB), TWRP ask for decryption password but the password from unlocking phone doesnt work. I dont know what to do. I dont want to lose my data. I found info that OrangeFOx recovery could be helpful so I flashed OrangeFox recovery. But it also ask for password.
Help please.

You're out of luck. You need to format your data partition - and you will lose your data and all the contents of your internal storage.

Is there any way to backup storage eg. via adb or something and try later to restore it?
EDIT
I performed wipe, install latest android. Data is gone. I found some windows apps to restore data after factory reset via adb. I'll try this in next week

Good luck!
PS: if your original MIUI 10 backup included /data, then you should be able to restore the data after formatting, flashing a fresh copy of the MIUI 10 ROM, booting the ROM, and then, booting back to recovery and restoring the data backup. But the content of your internal storage is gone forever (if you didn't back it up before).
Unfortunately I lost all my data (mainly photos). I'll buy microsd to store data and backups.
