[METHODS][Getting Back] to STOCK ROM after flashing Custom roms - Honor 5X Guides, News, & Discussion

This is fully a noob helping guide , Am just trying myself to help noobs instead of explaining them each time .
Method 1 :
Make a twrp backup soon after unlocking boot loader .
Am not going to explain how to unlock bootloader and also twrp flashing ,you can search different threads available in the same section .
Soon after unlocking bootloader , Just boot twrp before flashing it .
This can be done this way , Once you unlocked bootloader .
Upon firstboot ,just goto developer options and enable USB debugging and then Open the folder where you had setup minimal fastboot (Mfastboot v2 google for it) . You should have it as you can't unlock bootloader without minimal fastboot .
In any empty space in minimal fastboot exrracted folder , just press shift+right click and select "Open command prompt here" .
Now copy twrp recovery to Mfastboot folder .
Connect your phone to PC.
In command prompt type the below command
adb reboot bootloader
Hit enter ,
Now your phone reboots to bootloader .
Now type this command .
mfastboot.exe boot twrp.img
(Just rename the recovery to twrp.img before flashing )
Now just take a backup and keep it safe somewhere to access when required .
This is easy , but many may loose their twrp backup for some reasons or forgot to take a backup before stepping to custom ROMs , move to Method 2 if your in such group .
Method 2:
Download update.app from official site .
Extract and put dload folder in root of sdcard .
Power off the phone and press vol up+ vol down and power .
It will now fully flash stock ROM with all stock files .
(This method requires stock recovery so keep in mind to flash stock recovery before trying to update as twrp can't perform these tasks )
Method 3:
Its not hard and not easy too but you required to download some tools .
Huawei update extractor tool (google for it)
Once downloaded open the tool and choose the path where you placed update.app in your PC .
Now the tool opens update.app .
Extract system.IMG and boot.IMG from update.app
Put them in the minimal fastboot folder.
Boot your phn to fastboot using command adb reboot bootloader .
Now connecting your phone to PC in bootloader mode , type the below commands
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe reboot
That's it you are on stock ROM.
Method 4:
Flash the stock rom flashable zip posted by devs in your device specific threads and flash it .
Fully for noobs : METHOD 5:
Download the twrp backup posted in device specific threads and put it in sdcard and restore it. Its easy though .
Now your device is ready for flashing official updates "if you get them"[emoji14].

i try every method here and i found myself anytime with modaco custom rom in name build its normal ? ( sorry for my bad english )

Cache & Cust partitions need wiping and reflashing. Had the same issue when I reverted a Modaco rom back to stock.
Easiest method for L21 users is to flash this stock ROM: http://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/377002-r3-custom-rom-starter-template-honor-5x-kiw-l21-b130/ then replace TWRP with the stock recovery image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/repository-honor-5x-file-depot-t3328288
yes, the rom says "custom rom starter template" but it's the stock B130 UK ROM repackaged into a flashable ZIP. Much easier than messing around extracting system images.
---------- Post added at 02:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 PM ----------
I should mention one thing. If you have gone back to stock after a custom ROM then you may find the internal storage partition is the wrong size. Just do a full factory reset from Settings to resolve this.

Yes, if you just flash that rom then you'll be fully restored to stock, but with TWRP still in place. If you flash the stock recovery.img after then this will put the phone completely at stock and you should be able to apply future updates as the rom is completely untouched.

All the TWRP Backups in my Back to stock Guide include stock recovery
And also using the dload/update.app method does not delete your data but it will replace your custom recovery / boot.img and you can take OTA update afterwords

Hi I went from Cm13 to stock with emui 2.0 by restoring my twrp backup before I flashed my first huawei gr5 custom rom.
Now i am trying to restore back to stock rom to fully use OTA updates. Here's what I Did:
1. Restore twrp backup (emui 2.0 not rooted)
2. Flash system img and boot.img via adb using img file from update.app also by using update extractor.
Now i realized that im still in twrp. Do i need to flash recovery img first? Then can i do updates without problem? Or do i need to use the update.app via dload updating too?

good work bro, helps a lot of ppl @gopinaidu77

Forgive my English too, if I understood well the problem is you can not boot your operating system.Download the official rom and extract the boot and system images of the update.app.
Huawei update extractor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454. Once you have boot.img and recovery.img Download adb minimal and fastboot and universal drivers adb. In the folder where is adb minimal and fastboot copy boot.img and system.img.
Start the adb minimal, connect the USB cable to your computer, press volume down and connect the cable,or volumen down and power, so your phone will enter fastboot mode.
In the Command window of minimal adb type the following:
fastboot devices and pressing enter to ensure that recognizes your phone.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img and pressing enter.
Fastboot flash system system.img and pressing enter this takes more time.
For end ; fastboot reboot. good luck

How Did you installed LineageOs with fastboot or twrp and did you ever flashed nougat firmware?
You can flash stock firmware via fastboot you need to install on your pc firmware finder, huawei extract tool, fastboot and hisuite (for sub drivers).
So - open firmware finder and search fwd for can-l01 download it and extract update.app
- run huawei extract tool, open update.app with it and extract (with right click) boot.img, cust.img, recovery.img, system.img and userdata.img (cust.img and userdata.img are just in Marshmallow for nougat rom you only need to flash boot, recovery and system) in the root of fastboot folder
- run fastboot trough cmd and flash images you have extracted with huawei extract tool.
If you never flashed nougat you can flash marshmallows, in firmware finder marshmallow firmware is somewhere about 1.9gb.
---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:05 PM ----------
Or you can try the other method, download fwd with firmware finder, extract update.app, extract with huawei extract tool recovery.img, flash recovery with fastboot, create a new folder in the root of your ad-card and name it dload, copy the update.app in dload folder, open the dialer app and type
Thanks for your fast reply !
I installed Los with TWRP.
In fact, I have tried for a week to install Emui 5.0, I flashed again and again changing my method but the best result I got was a bootloop, so I went back to Los. I did a full backup of my system running onto Emui 4.1 but to perform something like this I had to remove encryption from my /data partition, I did it with the command fastboot erase userdata. However, everytime I was booting the rom it encrypted the /data... So my backup doesn't contain /data and I think it is the reason I havn't been able to go back onto Emui so far.
Could you provide me a link to download a fullota of any Emui 4.1 firmwarefor CAN-L01C432 or C109 ? I already looked for it but I can't find anything.

I can upload my backup if you want, but this is a CAN-L01C109, France version.
I'll share the link when I finish downloading the C432B100 and uploading my own.

Updating Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom ZE553KL by TWRP : some errors and difficulties

From the first time i was not able to upgrade my phone to another new version of Android.
The phone was bought on chinese store with Android version : WW V10.40.47.107 (Android MM)
When i checked availability of new versions, phone showed me no result available.
Then following instructions i unlocked bootloader and then install TWRP as recovery system.
I tried to install updates of ROM downloaded from Asus website using this methods with this results :
installing by TWRP with ROM transfered to internal memory of phone KO
installing by "ADB sideload" command KO
I partially resolved after many attempts updating only to Version V11.41.87.2 (Android MM)
I solved in this way :
i used TWRP installing from file transfered directly in microSD
i extracted from zipped file "updater-script" file that is possible to find in the following folder path :
META-INF > com > google > android
and then deleted this rows :
(!less_than_int(1494697617, getprop("ro.build.date.utc"))) || abort("Can't install this package (2017年 05月 14日 星期日 01:46:57 CST) over newer build (" + getprop("ro.build.date") + ").");
.....
getprop("ro.build.asus.sku") == "WW" || abort("Please use the right SKU for updating...");
.....
and then save file extracted and compress into zip file.
During TWRP install process i got some error updates, it seems connected to System folder/partition update
but at the end i was able to update Android to my phone
I tried to do the same method with an other update Version V20.32.67.25 i got a corrupted System folder/partition
It seems essential to update this phone to use original recovery system. Can anyone give it to me?
Or is there someone who has been able to install updates using TWRP without any error ?
Also after installation I wiped the Boot, System, Data, Cache partitions and then I restored from Nandroid backup done by TWRP.
But the phone did not start at the reboot.
I then had to reinstall the update with the method described above to get the working phone back
Why did Nandroid backup with TWRP not correctly restore the phone?
Many thanks to anyone can help me

There is a link to a rom in this post. In that zip you will find recovery.img. Flash it with adb, like you flashed twrp.
Then you can flash the last M official rom, and subsequently the first and last N roms.
That's the way I did it. I had to end up wiping data, to make it work correctly.
I'm also looking for a Nougat recovery.img.
I wouldn't like to go thru all the process again if there is another update.
Good luck.

i think you need flash full firmware bro ,
1. Download newer version firmware
2. You need Convert system.New.DAT to system.img
3. Move system.img and boot.img to minimal adb & fastboot folder

Dear boss , please give me Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom Nougat flashable Rom or any easy solutions........
???
After 11 hours trying out finally solved!!!
I originally just wanted to do a factory reset, and swiped then not only data/cache, but unfortunally - because of lack of expirience - also system partition. After that all the problems occured like described above and partitionally in https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/unbricking-zenfone-3-ze552kl-dm-verity-t3563970 (there was no OS anymore, twrp warned me this every time I wanted to power off, but I couldn't install the firmware again through fastboot neither through twrp -> install zip; have got error 7 or 6).
Afer a lot of fears and hours of trying aroud possibilities above as well as ideas from articles here:

I have finally founded a solution!!! This is in FIRSTLY restoring original recovery and just then flashing the stock ROM. Here the steps to do for it:
a.) Download original stock rom (raw-version!) from https://cloud.mail.ru/public/HuMJ/wEybSNsQA (raw is to flash through AFT - asus flash tool) or from any other source you can find online; official name seems to be "WW-ZE553KL-20.31.49.2-MR2-user-20170620235128-release_raw.zip"
b.) Exctract and move recovery.img to your adb-folder on PC
c.) Boot your phone into fastboot/boot mode, connect to PC through USB-Cable
d.) Run cmd in adb folder, then type in the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
e.) Reboot and choose recovery mode - now you have no twrp anymore, but the original recovery menue
f.) Install update, which means, original stock from your sd-card.
Be happy!
It would be nice if you could give me feedback, whether my solution was helpful for you, because it took time to write it and hope it will usefull

Boss,
This solutions can work with ASUS ZENFONE 3 ZOOM.........???
I have ZenFone 3 zoom. Already I successfully convert CN to WW Rom by following this introduction ... https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3-zoom/how-to/transfer-cn-rom-to-ww-rom-ze553kl-t3612990
But, I can't update android nougat any way. I convert system.new.dat to system.img...... And try to flash it but unfortunately that's not working......
Please help me .......:crying:
Yes, I did it with my Zenfone 3 Zoom (ze553kl). So, you have firstly to flash the original recovery - to find, as described, in the raw stock rom zip archive. Or, you can find all original recovery's also here: (not tested by myself) https://mega.nz/#F!p90wgAaY!l1JbJilmAUEKTKWu43pT9w
Copy recovery.img to adb-folder, then flash it in fastboot mode in the cmd with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". Also copy the original stock rom with Android N to your sd-card and put it into your phone.
Then reboot your phone into recovery - now you have no twrp anymore, but original recovery. Install now the zip with Android-N-stock-firmware from sd-card. Enjoy!

Boss ,
Thank you very much ...... Your solution absolutely excellent and work very well . I am very happy for your support . But unfortunately I found new problem on my phone ...... After update nougat a white line found on the display......
How can I solved it .......
Waiting for solution.......
Thanks again for your support ........
Glad to hear, that it worked for you as well. About white line I have no idea, but on other pages I have already seen somewhere, that other users also reported about this problem. Try to look at google "ze553kl update white line". You can also search a solution for ze552kl instead of ze553kl, because, as far as I know, the ze552kl (ZenFone 3, without "Zoom") is almost the same device, just with a little worse cam. Therefore, it seems to be longer on the market and to have more users, so there are also more solutions for problems which can occure to this device in the internet. Wish you a good luck!

Very helpful, thanks!
I must've messed something up when I flashed TWRP.
TWRP ran fine, but when I tried to start it up, it stayed stuck at the Android logo.
Then errors popped up when I tried to install the stock rom through TWRP.
I never would've thought or had the guts to restore stock recovery first.
This should get its own thread.
Edit: I think my mistake was unchecking "Mount system partition read-only."

After many days i finally found enough time to try to use your tips.
I tried to convert system.New.DAT to system.img but without success using this program Autotool 3.0
http://www.droidviews.com/convert-and-extract-system-img-and-system-new-dat-files-on-windows/
After this attempt i used a ROM provided by chinese store to flash its content :
system.img
boot.img
recovery.img
Original recovery.img is essential to install other updates.
After that i tried to install other updates recognized directly starting by phone but always without success.
So i have had to install updates using original recovery tool.
Now i got Android 7.1.1 last version installed on my phone but it's impossible to use
TWRP recovery tool.
Obviously it's possible to install TWRP instead of original recovery tool and also possible to make a nandroid backup
but it's impossible to use it to install original ROMs released from Asus and it's not possible
to use to restore nandroid backups.
Is it eventually possible to use a custom ROM ? If it's, which one and possibly compatible with TWRP ?
i solved issue of update, but TWRP ?

After many days I finally found enough time to try to update my Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom to Android Nougat.
To solve the issue, I used an original Rom from the Chinese store because it contains useful files for purpose without any conversion:
boot.img
system.img
recovery.img
I flashed all 3 IMG files.
Recovery.img that it's necessary to get original recovery without which any update can be done.
You must use a microSD and the original recovery tool to be able to upgrade your system.
The problem is that it does not seem possible to use TWRP. It is possible to install it in place of the original recovery and you can do also a nandroid backup but in practice you can not use it to install any updates and restore any nandroid backups.
Is there a custom rom that you can use instead of the original one?

[HONOR FRD-L02(INDIAN model)] Back to STOCK ROM from any CUSTOM ROM(JIO,volte fix)

FIRSTLY BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP any important data.
Please feel free to share this thread!!
I HARD-BRICKED my honor 8 twice by installing firmware of other regions(us,uk) but being just a noobie I was able to recover my phone. So don't worry take a chill pill:angel::angel:!!
Requirements:
1. Since you are in a custom rom so developer mode will be ON(if not just click build number 9-10 times) , click USB debugging ON.
2. ROOT not necessary but you can do by many apps or by the method of OEM unlocking(command line - Windows Powershell/Command Prompt)
3. Now download these 2 zip files-
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1190/g79/v90977/f1/full/update.zip
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...el_in/update_data_full_FRD-L02_channel_in.zip
4. Copy these zip files to an SD card
5. Now flashing twrp on your phone-
a) download adb files->Press SHIFT and right click-> Windows POWERSHELL-> write adb devices-> see the o/p as number devices
->enter adb reboot bootloader->See the screen of honor 8-> enter fastboot flash recovery twrp.img(download twrp file and rename it as twrp)
->Now plug off from PC-> Format phone-> Install external sd-> flash the zip file-> GO to recovery.
b) e-recovery will come wipe the options(cache,system)
c)REBOOT
You can now enjoy NOUGAT 7.0 with JIO working properly, you are back to home!!!
Thank you.
Wanna appreciate/help through any mode PM me, it will mean a lot to me.

OTA update on unlocked and rooted device

I have a well working Note 7 with unlocked and rooted 10.3.5.0 Global PFGEUXM (TWRP recovery and magisk).
Today I got the OTA notification to update ROM to 10.3.6.0.
What I will lose if I update?
What's the best way to proceed?
Thank you
Nothing will be lost from a regular OTA Just check around for any bugs or problems that other people are having if any? And update if you like.

You have to download the full rom then go to twrp and wipe cache and dalvik flash the rom and magisk without reboot to system. After the flash of magisk you can reboot to the system. If you don't flash magisk before rebooting MIUI overwrite the twrp with the stock recovery and you have to reinstall twrp with fastboot

If you get a compatibility error when flashing the rom just delete from the rom zip the file compatibility.zip

You're welcome. I don't think it's needed the disable_dm-verity (but also i don't think that's a bad thing if you reflash it). If you want to thanks somebody in xda forum just press the thanks button (the ok button).
Hi!
I am new here so please don't be angry for my next questions
I just want root my Redmi Note 7 and keep OTP updates.
I read so many threads and this is my conclusion:
First I must apply for unlocking bootloader. Then flash TWRP recovery from here. After this flash Magisk through TWRP and that is it!
When phone notifies me that there is a new software update, I must download recovery rom from here, put it in internal memory, flash it and flash immediately Magisk again (flashing Magisk is mandatory after every software update to keep root).
Can anybody confirm that this is right way?
Thank You in advance.

I think that you can do that from twrp but i'm not 100% sure. From computer you don't need to unpack and repack, just open the zip with 7zip or unrar (i'm on linux and don't know which program you use for zip files) and delete the file

Are you sure you downloaded the right rom? Error 7 is a mismatch of the firmware
Just come to say that everything went fine.
I didn't need to wait for unlock bootloader. I bought phone 2 weeks ago and using it normally and when I start unlock procedure it unlock without waiting time (I saw that someone must wait 720 hours!!).
I flash twrp and magisk (I had fingerprint lock so after flashing I did data erase) and now I have rooted phone
So, I have a my Redmi Note 7 keeps telling me that there is a new update which is V10.3.10.0.PFGMIXM
I didn't want to install it since I was happy with my phone. But now the notification is not going away and it is always there. So I tried to install it from OTA but since my phone is unlocked and has TWRP on it, the update can't be installed.
My questions are:
- Should I download the rom and flash it through TWRP?
- How should I flash it without being have to make a factory reset? Is it posible not to loose any data? And if so, is it bad to flash it just like that?
- There is a kernel which is called EVIRA that I want to flash, too. So the order should be:
Rom + Kernel + Minsk, is that correct?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: There are 2 versions of the new rom:
Recovery Rom and Fastboor Rom.

4) flash the rom, the kernel and magisk in this order. Don't reboot to system until you have flashed magisk
5) reboot to system
6) enjoy
If you get a compatibility error when flashing the rom just delete the file compatibility.zip from the rom zip
