After CES and MWC seeing new phones being announced. Like for example the Motorola Atrix and The new Galaxy S II. I would still want to get the Nexus S probably because of the stock android. Is this normal, are there any other people that feel the same way as I do?

I watched all of CES and I've been following MWC a bit more loosely but not a single one of them makes me want to give up my Nexus S. If you could keep my SNS I'd love to have an HTC Pyramid on top of it but just for poops and giggles. The SNS is the best phone I've owned and I love it.
I feel the same way as you do, but you can also run stock on a Galaxy S II or Motorola Atrix, with Custom ROMs. Of course, it won't be the same as with the Nexus S.
I just like the Nexus s as a whole. What I mean to say with that is that stock Android and updates from Google isn't the only thing I like about the Nexus.

it's a really hard decision to make, forfeit direct upgrades to get all the goodies vs. keep direct upgrades, and have no goodies
the moment of truth will come when the AWS t-mobile model 1700+2100 hit the runway then i'll let me greed decide
None of these new phones are appealing to me at all.
I'll only buy into the Nexus brand from now on. This phone has been everything I've ever wanted from an Android device.

Love my Nexus S. The hardware, the fact that is supported straight from Google, everything about it.
I'm not saying i'm not curious about the new dual core devices, but think about that for a minute: our single core phones go through a day - day and half with a 1540mA battery. Imagine the talk/standby time of those new phones with only 1650 and 1900 mA batteries. When sth just comes out, usually needs work. Like Win7, dual core phones, the android when it ws first launched.
So, i think i'm gonna wait a while before trying a new device.

For the most part, I agree. There's nothing so appealing to make me want to ditch my current Nexus S, however, understand what "stock Android" means.
Yes, you get the latest Google updates, and you get the unhampered Android experience, but just be aware that Android is riddled with glitches ranging from minor annoyances to some pretty major issues. (Just to name a few off my head: keyboard issues, home screen icon and swiping issues, gallery issues, rebooting issues, SMS and MMS issues...)
As long as you understand that being on the Nexus line means you're essentially the "beta tester" for Google's Android iterations, then you shouldn't be disappointed. I'm just sharing my personal experience. I found many things critical about the Android experience on previous phones, but always had OEM skins to blame. On the NS, that excuse is invalid.
I too am fairly disappointed with all of the new phones (including the NS to an extent).
Atrix = Plastic, and has Moto's locked down bootloader (major negative, and if it wasn't so locked down, I may have made an exception for its cheaper build quality).
Inspire 4G = Nothing too impressive, still has HTCs horrible mic and speaker quality and probably a ****ty digitizer/touch screen.
HTCs entire new lineup: No dual core? No gingerbread for the Incredible? Minimal upgrades at best.
SGSII = Plastic.
Nexus S = Plastic.
I may be old fashioned, but can anyone other than HTC make a $600+ Android phone that isn't plastic? Or what? Combine HTCs metal build, Moto's excellent speaker quality, Samsung's sensitive touchscreen, and then tack on the true Google experience -- and there you have it, the perfect Android device.
Until then, the iPhone still has an edge over Android with their polished build quality. I'm probably going to get attacked with fanboi'ism (even though I've owned 3 Android devices in the last 2 years), but whatever... it's true... There always seems to be trade offs with Android devices, whether it's build, or OS fragmentation - it drives me crazy.
I'm going to be picking up an Android fun to bum around with, and it's most likely going to be the Nexus S when and if it arrives to Rogers, just because it's the next iteration of the Nexus One. I'll put up with the cheap build quality (I'll try really hard not to drop it) and call it a day.

I 100% completely agree in that point
why it is so hard for all the manufacture to put all the best stuff together and make a perfect phone?
seems like every manufacture only specializes in 1 thing, but not the rest of the phone.
personally i wanted a phone for work and fun, so the Nexus S fit the profile, just a bit disappointing in the reception area, and speaker, it serves better as a PDA than a phone
for my girl i got her a Moto because it's radio and speaker perfect, it will always get a signal, it was designed as a phone, and it works as a phone
I must say I regret dropping $600 on this phone at the eve of dual-cores. It is not that the Nexus S is "bad"; sure 2.3 isn't 100% bug-free but the phone itself is great. I just find it really dumb of me to purchase a phone with single core when dual-cores are right around the corner.
P.S. Atrix might have a lot of things going for it, but the most major innovation I find in the Atrix is the huge battery and great battery life, without sacrificing phone size (in regards to thickness).
I'm sold on the idea of a google backed phone. Now I just need to save up for one of these and find a way out of my contract with sprint. I am just tired of the run around with updates between carrier/mfg. I think I am over the need for having the latest and greatest and can settle down with one device for a while until the newest nexus comes around. A small trade off in my opinion as I will still have the latest OS and support from great devs and plenty of time to save for the next one. Last plus for me is being able to get on a month to month service and no more contracts. I'm on my way over guys, just saving up some cash then its on ;-)

I have a Nexus S and it's awesome. Stock Android is the only way to go.
I'm not gonna lie. I'm still thinking of getting one, even with all the phones on the horizon. My upgrade from T-Mobile isn't until July. Tax return is burning a hole in my pocket... If only they had a car dock like the Nexus One...

even though i want to ask you. assuming you know that dual core phones are starting to come from this month. " optimus 2x" with tegra 2 from nvidia, 8M 1080p video recording, hdmi output and 1.3 M front facing camera, why did you pick up the nexus S now ?

one of the main reasons why I went for the NS, is that it is not as common as many other phones, I like having something that not many others (atleast in my area) have.

how do you figure it out ? how do you figure it out that you dont need a dual core phone ?
the prices are not much of a difference, specialy if you are going to buy it new.
i am sorry but unless you provide me with a good reason like super amoled. pure google expiernce whatever, then there is no point of buying the nexus s TODAY when new phones are coming out within week or so.
same cant be applied for people who bought it when it came out in Dec.
Why don't I need a dual core phone? simple, for me the phone is mostly for calling and texting, now that i will have a smart phone I will add GPS navigation, emails, music, videos and casual gaming and probably other stuff that i might discover along the way.
From all that I have seen today on the internet and on smartphones that friends have, all these options run great on todays hardware.
Another reason for the nexus s is the 4" screen. most next gen devices are coming out with 4.3" screen, that makes the phone too big for me.
And I like the idea of the update support from google and not needing to rely on the manufacturer for updates.

all what you said apply on both phones
both are good in calling, both are good in gps emails music videos. and gaming.
the difference is the dual core just does it better in terms of multi media and gaming " better performance "
as for the 4.3 screen. its fine. even though optimus 2x is 4.0 screen and so is the atrix as far as i know
the only reason i see that you might have a point is the updates directly from google. which is good reason enough to buy the phone assuming you are honest with your self when you typed that as one of the main reasons. because yeah it takes much longer to get updates if its not from google.

1ST) Don't forget that nexus S is a developer phone. If user wanted features, they would be better off buying any other android in today's market. If they want FM, memory slot, better cam, fancy UI, cheaper in price there are many other better options out there in competition to nexus s, and those options where already there before in December then the phone came out. main advantage of nexus s is that it is basic android phone with direct support from google. new software updates comes out to this phone then any other. that is handy for people developing, testing or integrating software for android.
2ND) dual-core cpu, with better performance GPU, bigger screen = short lasting battery, inconvenient to carry.... also dont forget u r buying a phone, not a PC. wont u rather play those nicer games on ur PC then on phone; come on, dont tell me everyone just keeps travelling whole week with no time to sit at a desk and enjoy games, videos, music. I still find it more convenient to send a proper email from my PC then from phone, though i like the fact that i can scan new emails quickly and sometimes send short replies (SMS-like). in short, I think going for those dual-core as soon as they come out would be an overkill. I would rather wait 10 months to a year, and buy the second generation of dual-core phones when they have better-ed battery use, with smaller size and get to choose from more apps that support dual-core.
3RD) for the enthus out there, its a matter of must have, whenever they can afford it, whatever they use it for, even if they understand the phone completely or not, its a toy by their preferred brand

I actually agree with you that it's an odd time to be buying a Nexus S for most folks, but your final sentence there doesn't sit quite right.
You seem to be saying that the "magic" timeframe to justify buying a phone when better/faster/slicker devices are just around the corner is 3 months? I don't want to be buying a new phone every three months, though I've sort of fallen into that trap over the last year (Nexus One, Galaxy S i9000, iPhone 4, Nexus S all bought and kept in less than a year, with several others given a test drive).
Those of us who bought the Nexus S in December were heavily criticized even back then for buying what many called "outdated" technology with dual core phones coming out in a few months.
My experience with Android phones has been that there is ALWAYS a better phone coming out in a month or two. Pick what meets your needs today and get it and don't worry about justifying the purchase to some stranger in a forum...you'll go nuts otherwise.

well i am in love with the way the nexus s looks and i'd rather wait for the galaxy s 2 which the guy told me 4th quarter but if it comes out earlier these bad boys go on ebay for like $500-650 so i will just sell and buy the phone off contract
I was one of those who decided to buy a Nexus S now. In my case, a friend of mine was traveling to the US and coming back this week. I had an option of getting an Atrix or a Nexus S.
The reasons I went for the Nexus S are:
1) Motorola not only locked the baseband, but this time they signed the files. This makes the Atrix almost iPhone-like. If I wanted a closed system, I'd have stuck with the iPhone some time ago, and not switched to Android.
2) I owned a Galaxy S, which I gave to my wife (who had a Milestone) and I'm in love with Super AMOLED screens. It has raised the bar really high for me, and I wouldn't settle for any screen. Many Atrix users have reported that the Atrix screen, despite the resolution, is not that great.
3) Atrix ships with Android 2.2, and who knows when they'll have 2.3 (considering this is Motorola we're talking about.) And with Android 2.2, the Atrix seemed sluggish (on the interface) in every video I've seen so far.
4) Considering that phones are much more expensive here in Brazil, I was able to sell my wife's Milestone for just as much as I paid for the Nexus. And I even managed to give my friend (who bought it) a sweet deal. That's how expensive these things are around here. So I didn't really spend any money on the upgrade.
I don't know when my friend will be in the US again, so it was kind of a "now or never" sort of thing.
I guess I'll just wait for Google to release the next Nexus, or go for the Galaxy S2 in a few months. Right now, I'm really happy with my choice. The Nexus S feels like someone took the Galaxy S (which was already a phone I really loved) and made it even better.

I can afford both phones, but am leaning towards the Nexus S for the following reasons:
1) SAMOLED colors and contrasts
2) Usable front camera for video calls
3) Will get Ice Cream (GPU acceleration and Gtalk video chat) in June, unlike the encrypted Atrix (next December, maybe?)
4) Most good apps will run on it just fine, while Atrix only has a couple of good Tegra 2 games and many apps that won't run on it till devs have a reason to update them by the end of the year (like all the video call apps, for instance).

Ignore the people who think you bought it late. I'm still waiting for it to be released in my country (should be any day now). It will be my first smartphone. My previous 2 phones (yeah I only had two) were Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, which are the best "dumb" phones there are in my opinion, but I have kept an eye on Android since it has been introduced. I have been patiently waiting untill the OS would be more grown-up, and I think the time has come.
I'm not the kind of guy that buys another phone within a year. If I buy a phone, I plan to use it for at least 2 years. Because of that, I want a phone that I think I can use for more than 2 years. It has to be special to me.
But, this doesn't mean I want the latest hardware. I am more than happy with what the Nexus S can do, and for now I don't see any reason to have a dual-core device. There just aren't features that I may use that need it, and the Nexus S is fast enough. Of course, since dual-core phones aren't more expensive than the Nexus S, I could just buy a dual-core phone, but the Nexus S seems more complete to me. And this is a thing I can't really describe....
I just think the Nexus S is unique. Unique enough to last more than 2 years, and still have people saying "nice phone".

There isn't another phone or tablet on the market now or coming in the near future that can push out 4.4k on quadrant without breaking a sweat. Dual cores won't be worth it until they have ice cream and can make use of both cores until then the only reason to own one is to make you feel like your gadget **** is bigger.
Furthermore why buy an atrix now when the HTC pyramid is coming soon? Dual 1.2 ghz snap dragon cores? Hell yes. Oh wait by the time that comes Tegra 3 phones will be coming out. So why buy a dual core when quad core phones are coming?!. .................

So I'm finally retiring my N1. It has been great to me, but my battery is starting to have calibration issues, the touch-response of the screen occasionally goes crazy, and I'm pretty sure one of the gyros is dying which makes all nav functions go a little nuts. I'm strongly considering going with the galaxy nexus now that it is in the play store, but I want to know if there are other contenders out there that I am missing out on. I'd love to get a Note, but I'm on T-Mob and I'm unsure of its performance on the network. I also desperately love the nexus series, but I've always been critical of Samsung phones from a build and materials quality standpoint.

I was excited for the One X, but the One S looks like a feature-removed version of the X, smaller screen, smaller battery etc..
As a former Nexus one user and a current Galaxy note user, I say go for the galaxy nexus. I loved my Nexus one so much, but had to part ways with it when my screen cracked. I miss having the PURE google experience. If you have the option, go for the note, you will not be disappointed by the BEAST. The huge screen is definitely something you will get used to, and will become dependent upon.
Does the note have the t-mob bands for hspa and 3g?

Have you gone into stores and extensively used both the GN and One S. They are both very nice. It will depend what features are more important to you. I found the One S with a gorgeous screen, VERY fast and smooth. Just as fast if not faster at loading web pages and rendering pages than the GN. Matter of fact on my particular times with the GN, it not not do as well as the One S when using the browser. The Snapdragon S4 is one of quickest out there. The screen size is excellent. I thought I wanted a 4.6+ or the Note, but think now they would have been too big for me. With the internal card I consistently get 10 to 13mb read speeds. Makes backing up to pc very quick. But, it still comes down to your specific needs.
I'm still on my N1 as well with TMobile.
I'm probably gonna go with Sprints new EVO since its the One X with the kickstand and a sdcard slot. Same price as well monthly as TMobile so no difference there.
Luckily my area is in the first round of LTE sites for them.
Now I'm just waiting for it to get thru customs and making sure the bootloader isn't locked before I order one.
Amazon Wireless has it for $150 with no activation fee at the moment.

Well I jumped into the One S today. I'll play around and post a trip report. The sad thing is that I'm just gonna use it until the Jelly Bean nexuses come out

They ship with the boot loader locked. You need to use htc dev to unlock it but that voids warranty.

Got a HTC ONE S and took it back the same day. It /looks/ like the spiritual successor to the N1 in form, the screen is bright, the camera is awesome, but...
I've been spoiled too much. Cyanogen on the N1, tethering without extra plans, TMobile wifi calling hacked onto it. And... well... It just works right.
Give it a bit, and the HTC S will be running great I hope and I'll revisit it, but it's hard to go to any phone without cyanogen now! (and Sense, even though it's 'light' on the HTC S is still obviously there).

As is, I use the N1 for a phone, just bare apps loaded, and a bluetooth tethered GalaxyTab7 for anything else. Seems to be a good combo.
the galaxy nexus is a great phone im not a huge samsung fan but the phone is solid as well as feels nice in hand. and I still love my n1.

this phone doesnt have a gyroscope, only an accelerometer
also, id suggest going for an HTC device .. sensation? or if you want the latest and greatest go with the oneX or oneS
orrrrrrrr if you enjoy fantastic plastic, the samsung built galaxy nexus isnt bad.. and the sgs3 is coming out soon

i love sense
to each his own but people are always complaining about sense being slow and bloated but ive never faced this
everything works together using the same libs and framework.. and you get everything from apps to widgets..
it definitely runs a LOT smoother than having multiple third-party apps bloating up the system
Just retired my n1...lack of memory and touch screen issues finally led me to it. Got a galaxy nexus and I would not go back.
I still have my n1 and the galaxy nexus is an upgrade in every way...exceeded my expectations.
I also believe the Galaxy Nexus is the perfect complement to the N1

Yes it does, only the AT&T i717 and Canadian i717 have pentaband radios.
The international version is not pentaband though

Well a quick trip report. I've had the One S for about 2 weeks and it is phenomenal. Screen and camera are excellent, native ICS/sense is great, and the phone is FAST. Like really fast. I've never had a phone with sense on it because I hate the inherent slowness of sense but it runs like a dream so far.
Of course it's a carrier branded phone so it had a ton of bloat on it. Custom ROMs are plentiful however so that was a problem easily solved. So far I am very happy with my choice and feel like come november I can sell this phone for the $200 I gave T-mob for it and buy one of the new Google phones if I want.

I would go for the nexus 4 but the 16gb space seems too limiting and I love the sense UI but also hate how manufacturers take ages to release the android os updates hence always turn to custom roms and am a frequent flasher.

getting a nexus phone isn't only about the specs of the phone,
if u need pure android and fast updates with limited hardware specs then go for nexus
if u need a device for its hardware spec like storage and the ability to increase is then i suggest u go with htc.
since the sgs 1 i got i will never go for other than the nexus samsung left as with their GB and never got updates since then..although we got many custom roms but still not like stock.
at the end it is ur decision be wise and think twice before taking the next step.

It's your call on the phone. They have pros and cons. The flagship phones usually get updates longer then lower end models. HTC has good hardware. Nexus is bare bones and designed to be minimalist.
Why do people keep saying the Nexus is limited this or lacks hardware that? The Nexus 4 is one of the most powerful devices on the market. In fact, it has the smoothest performance out of all the devices. Do yourself a favor and get the Nexus, If you want somewhat better pictures then get the One X.
1gb of ram is fail, especially on a sense phone where the ui uses a third of your ram from boot

and who says nexus 4 has limited hardware! its a powerful phone mc4 whit max setting(mod) runs at 50-29 FPS
I used to have a one s and a one x...and i would definitely keep the nexus over both. HTC's always get support for like a couple of months after release then just die. Also updates never happen. After the one s and x i'm most likely never going to buy another HTC again.

Since Google now updates apps instead of Os, getting a Nexus device no longer matters. Jelly Bean is a mature OS. Nothing really new out there. Rumours are 4.3 will contain minimal improvements. Not as important anymore. Go with phones that has features that matter to you now. Not 2 years from now.
but when 5.0 comes out people will come back to Nexus and bashing the OEM's again for being late because its a major update and that will take awhile.

Incorrect. Nexus devices so matter. Nexus has one thing that other phones do not and that is the availability of working drivers from the very start.
When Android 4.3 come out, other phones will have broken auto rotate, cellular data, bluetooth, gps or whatever it may be because of the drivers not working properly with 4.3 and when 5.0 comes out, it will be even more significant to the point that it will be a large transition kind of like Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich depending on what 5.0 includes.

It's not noticeable but the slight stutter is there. I played with One almost everyday. It is fast, with RARE slowdown. Sometimes in loading an app.

I have both phones and I would suggest to somebody to get the n4 over the x+ in a heartbeat. It's just an overall better phone in fact it's the best phone I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Plus if you are into modifying your your phone with roms and kernels then I do not suggest getting an x+. On the flip side the n4 has a huge development community that is extremely active

True it is quite powerful, but when I was comparing the N4 to say a used S3, couple of things stood out (And course this could be the same comparison to a One X+)
- No user-removable battery, as such no extendable battery, the N4's powerful cpu can suck down that 2100mA battery pretty easy.
- No micro-SD card , so no readability there, but can put a 64GB into an S3
- No USB-OTG support (so can't just plan on using some 32GB thumbdrive, and you only have a choice of 8GB or 16GB, no 32GB model yet)
That's basically what my take on it, an its usually non-issue to most people.
Far as a N4 vs a One, just in terms of practicality and not doing number crunching, especially since I feel like both of them are rather nice and would likely be happy with either for day to day use.
On the N4 :
1) Extremely easy to unlock the bootloader (fastboot oem unlock, no codes, etc).
2) Extremely easy to add a custom recovery (fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img)
3) Extremely easy to just add a custom rom (boot up into recovery, wipe, adb push what you want, flash)
4) Rather easy to root stock AOSP once you got recovery (TWRP will isntall SuperSu for you, just let SuperSu do the rest)
5) More likely to use the shipped AOSP rom than I would HTC Sense
6) If google says a phone is getting an update, it's getting an update, none of that HTC BS bout Desire-HD getting ICS then all the sudden Nope.
And besides, it's nearly impossible to hard brick a Nexus 4, if you're a flash-a-holic, unlike the HTC One X that my brother somehow hard-bricked (he only had it rooted, nothing more) and just shut down and is a paperweight (I spent maybe 3 weeks on seeing if I could repair it before it got tossed).

What price those going to run at anyways? I mean if it's 200-300$ more than the normal edition with Sense, I'd rather get a Nexus4 that already had the same treatment, or wait until the AOSP version been out a while, root a normal OneX+ and then put a rooted AOSP rom based on that release onto it and save a few hundred. (assuming physically both models are the same... though not likely).
Though if the price is at what NewEgg has it at right now (399$ (50% off) for an Unlocked HTC One X+ 16GB) , then it's a bit of a tougher decision compared to the 350$ you'd pay for the N4 16GB. But if it's at the 600-700$ range... I'm going for the N4.

In the short term profits are non existent, but that does not mean they are down and out.

It's funny you mention this. I was displaying something at work the other day to a coworker and a few of his friends. After the video was over, someone asked: "What phone is that?" I said "The HTC One M9". He responded with "HTC? Wow I haven't seen anyone with an HTC in a long time." The rest of the group nodded. That's when I realized that HTC is behind in the game, even if their Flagship product continues to out-pace the S6 and G4 in terms of battery life and build quality. When people think of buying a new phone the first thing that pops into their heads are either the iPhone or Samsung. Samsung is a massive company that has been saturating the market with advertisements for years. But even moving passed them, what are some other phone manufacturers that normal, non-tech savvy people would think of. LG is a familiar name. HTC? Not so much.
HTC needs to get its name out there. Its making quality devices and no one seems to care. The M9 wasn't a big departure from the M8 in terms of looks and when people buy phones they want to be noticed. A phone is every bit an upgrade to the person's communication capabilities as it is a social status. For the buyers that do research before purchasing a new device, they probably stumbled upon the slew of articles proclaiming the Snapdragon 810's heat problems. They also probably read about the lackluster camera. While the camera, after many updates, is quite good, it still doesn't have basic features like OIS. Unfortunately, we live in a society where the camera is the most important part of the phone; thanks to Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, etc. People want a phone that they can just point and shoot in any condition and take a good photo. So when I read articles like the ones you posted above, I find myself not really that surprised. HTC has struggled to keep up with the likes of Samsung, LG and Motorola. Period.
As for me, the M9 is nice, but I absolutely cannot wait for the new Nexus 5 to come out this year. The development community here has some nice content but between Sense and the lack of sources coming from HTC, I find myself missing my old N5 more and more. This will be the last HTC device I'll ever own.

Yeah because Apple totally redesign their phones every year and wouldn't possibly ship the same phone again with an S badge on it. People still queue for days down the street for it.
They're in trouble, yes. Even a killer M10 might not be enough because the market is just saturated and the margins on flagship phones are so thin. And they're going to have trouble rolling out a killer phone for the simple reason that nobody can afford to max out the specs anymore and still sell their phones at a profit. I mean, look what happened with the OP2. Even Samsung had to cut corners on the S6 (battery, sdcard slot).
Samsung is surviving on marketing and market share, but when the cheap smartphones from China start really flooding the market, things are going to change for everyone.
Despite the negation of some, HTC is at its darkest hour. If the hero product coming doesn't turns out to be a real hero, I'm afraid the M10 will be the last for them to succeed they need both to be successful, and considering the middle tier and phones like the Redmi Note 2 out there, it's gonna be really hard
In my humble opinion, HTC should try not to compete with Apple and Samsung, but move in a new direction. They should move to a more niche market, keeping the things they are good at and also creating a device that comes rooted, so people who like all the modding can have a device that would truly unique to them or bespoke.
Samsung and Apple are to big now for HTC to compete with, so heading in a completely different directions may save HTC, but the company would be a lot smaller than it is now.

Great post, I'm with ya... In my case, I miss my OnePlus One just like you miss your Nexus 5. I'm planning on getting one of the two new Nexus that are coming out in October as well, and the M9 is probably going to be my last HTC device as well.

HTC is not apple. Apple can afford to do that, HTC can't.
I bought the M9 on a whim (and to see if HTC got its head straight after the Doubleshot debacle) and I'm impressed with this phone. Unfortunately it's too little too late.

I have a lot of htc devices before i buy sgs3 and then sgs5. I go for sammy because there was too many hardware issues with htc phones. But touchwiz i the ugliest launcher. I just can'tuse it. So i install cm on my samsungs. But there was always something that doesnt work as it should. Now with m9 i am very happy again. I would definitely support this copamny in future. I don't know why people are expecting so different design. Not always different is good.

I hope it doesn't lose ground. I know this isn't a popular device amongst the 2015 flagships. Definitely doesn't beat m8 in terms of popularity either. Their main focus is their next phone but hope htc continues to give us timely updates and support for this device. My only concern.
It's sad that my dad even knows this company is struggling and he doesn't know anything about smartphones.
I'm hoping HTC doesn't die either, pretty much the only phone on the market I like due to the sense overlay, don't like Samsung's touchwiz and as for the rest, LG, Sony etc, well you may as well just get a Nexus, and Sony are rubbish for updates in my experience, Cant stand I don't know phones.
M9 is currently available on Virgin Mobile for half the price it was 4 months ago, sorry all those who grabbed it as soon as it came out on a 2 year contract and are paying double :crying: current price is not a good sign, still may grab one however when my contract comes up for renewal in November, maybe it will be a bit cheaper.
HTC are upsetting a lot of people at the moment with them promising updates and then not bothering, M8 just lost its August update, we now have to wait till android M release, and I can really see by the time its ready, they will use the excuse that the device is over 2 years old so no update, so still no Sense 7 unless you go custom rom, if XDA developers can do it, why cant HTC ?
HTC Mini 2 aka M8 mini, only got a year of updates, didn't even get Lollipop, not a very happy Mrs. promised by HTC then cancelled.
M7 updates got the 2 year excuse and left with a buggy Lollipop, which were fixed by Google 4 weeks later in 5.1.

If they do a good job with the initial release that doesn't needs to be true; It will include the latest android version, so no need to worry about system updates probably until android M, it will include the stagefright patches, so no need to worry about that either. If it includes a good camera and gets rid of Snapdragon 810, there won't be a need of constant firmware updates and even if it includes the 810, they've improved it so much so far, so there would be no need to firmware updates, cause they passed for that with the M9 already.
Again that's assuming they're going to announce sometihng at IFA, which is yet uncertain.
Simply put...nowadays phone manufacturers don't need to build the best phone to sell the "best" phone, they just have to make it the most popular phone. People outside of XDA don't buy a phone because it has killer features, or superior build quality, or the best camera; they buy a phone because the marketing department said it was the best phone on the market, plain and simple. If HTC wants to catch up, all they need to do is change the look of the M10 and focus on marketing it heavily. HTC has been building top tier smartphones for some time now and they have lost the market game to Samsung and Apple every year.
And also, don't think for a minute that other manufacturers will not pay for negative press on competing phones. They know that public perception is what drives public reception. I am quite certain that Samsung "influenced" atleast a few of the bad review that the M9 received. I am the proud owner of an M9 and although it hasn't been the best phone that I have ever owned, it is FAR from as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be; but if you read the reviews and base your phone decision off of them, you would think the M9 was a piece of junk to be avoided.
All HTC needs to do is figure out some hip gimmicks and marketing (not for us, but for the public), and they will be just fine.
Htc is for people who don't want to go with the sheep of the phone world, plus once you've had a decent high end htc device you'll always be looking back if you switch to let's say a Samsung or an apple device. They're always really close to getting it perfect, this time round it's obviously the camera which is still good but you need to tweak it a bit, personally I'd always chose htc, they're great phones, especially since the m7.
In terms of overall sales, no they're not doing as well as Samsung and apple, bare in mind though that Apple and samsung sell lots of other devices besides phones, htc do not. A fresh approach needs to happen in terms of marketing, and a thoroughly tested flagship with every angle covered, plus I don't think it's necessary for them to release several phones per year. A flag ship and a budget phone would suffice, allowing them to optimise the devices properly. Having an E an E+ an m9 and an m9+ with desires popping up all over the place for me is far too much.
Time will tell, but I don't think they're down and out.
This is my sixth HTC phone and still happy with it. Sad though they can't keep up with the telecom market nowadays.. I would say HTC ain't dead, but it had its better days. Hopefully they strike back with a stunning 2016 flagship. They really deserve a better position or either everybody's attention like last year with the m8 in my opinion
